  • KitKat and Heinz respond to “surprisingly good” ketchup and KitKat trend – Dexerto

KitKat and Heinz respond to “surprisingly good” ketchup and KitKat trend KitKatIn the latest fast food trend to grace TikTok, customers are dipping their KitKats into ketchup, of all things – and it’s just as bizarre as you’d imagine. We’ve already seen some pretty bizarre TikTok food trends throughout the first portion of 2024. First, dipping Sonic pickles into Dr. Pepper became a thing, with people pulling into drive-thrus to hop onto the new craze. Then a man went viral after he mixed up Guiness beer, along with a can of tomato soup, a combination that he revealed was surprisingly not all that bad. Now, in the latest absurd trend, TikTok is mixing KitKat candy bars and tomato ketchup. The craze has become so big that KitKat itself has hopped on the bandwagon, posting a video on its social media account of employees testing out the combination. We saw several different reactions from the employees as they chowed down on the unusual concoction. The consensus? Somewhat of a mixed bag. One of them could visibly be seen shaking her head, and giving the snack a hard pass, whereas two other employees proceeded to give a big thumbs up, clearly enjoying themselves. The trend isn’t as new as you might think however, as a man took to TikTok to give his opinion on the sweet and savory mixture back in 2021. His review was somewhat unexpected, as he revealed it was “surprisingly good,” and while he “had his doubts,” he could be seen laughing after trying it. “Does the government know about this?” he joked. “This feels illegal. This should be illegal. Why does that work?” he asked viewers. People on TikTok weren’t so convinced however, writing: “How do people find these combinations? Was it like ‘oops, I spilled my ketchup on it & said F**k it, I’m gonna eat it anyway’?” “Every part of him biting that chocolate is cursed,” another wrote, clearly grossed out. However, it seems that a KitKat x Heniz Ketchup collab might actually be on the cards. In a social media post on instagram, the two joined forces to create an AI image of what a ketchup-flavored KitKat. In the caption alongside the post, they teased “Even when it’s KitKat, It Has to be Heinz. Do we dare?” So who knows what the future holds for this popular candy brand. There’s another fast food trend going viral on TikTok, but this one isn’t quite as controversial, packing together all of your favorite candies to form a creation influencers are calling ‘candy salad.’

When popular food blogger Snackolator announced this release on his Instagram stating that he and KFC, “weren’t talking right now”, he commented on the simplicity of the treat and how delicious it looks. You’re probably drooling thinking of these already, but bear in mind that at the minute, they are only available in Australia. US KFC fans in the comments were outraged, noting, “OMG, this is NOT really happening! I NEED to try!” Others were thinking of taking action, saying, “Bring it to USA, let’s start a petition!” The new cookie dough bites mark the second circular-shaped item that KFC has released, but only time will tell if they will be as big of a hit as the popcorn chicken. In the first 24 hours of release, dozes of TikTokers have reviewed the new dessert. The bites actually launched in Australia for a limited time as a test item in November 2023, and are back across the country from the beginning of August 2024. They come in packs of three and cost $3 Australian dollars, which comes to just under $2 US dollars. US fans don’t need to despair just yet though, because the Starbucks Fall lineup has been leaked by an employee and it will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth.

The collab features K Coffee, KFC’s coffee offering and Wutaishan, the official brand backed by local cultural and travel authorities, available to customers between 8 and 21 January. KFC tries to avoid controversy after new Buddhist collab After another brand called Hey Tea faced controversy following their collab with Jingdezhen China Ceramics Museum, they were forced to withdraw all items and marketing materials from their “Speechless Buddha” campaign. This happened just one week after the big launch. KFC is trying to avoid such controversy, and as a result, has decided to forgo any Buddhist imagery on products. They’ve also chosen to market the product with a blessing outside of traditional Buddhist texts, to avoid the same fate as Hey Tea. Another collab is going viral, as Cinnabon announced that they were bringing out pink rolls to celebrate the launch of the new Mean Girls movie.

But Taco Bell isn’t the only fast food chain to breach new culinary territory. KFC is testing the waters with the release of its Chicken Quesadilla, which features KFC’s signature fried chicken, shredded in-house, gravy, a melted three-cheese blend, toasted and served with a choice of dipping sauce or hot sauce. • KFC driverless trucks are the newest way to order fried chicken – Dexerto

KFC driverless trucks are the newest way to order fried chicken プーアル via TwitterKFC driverless food trucks have hit the streets, and people on the internet are freaking out about it. These futuristic food trucks have been spotted in China, and are a new way to make fast food even more convenient. KFC is even bigger in China than it is in the US (if you can imagine that) and they have just found a new way to make their fried chicken even more popular. Fried chicken from the future These food trucks have come about from a collaboration between Neolix and KFC. Neolix is an innovative company that invented these vehicles to deliver food during the pandemic. Now, they are showing the world that these eye-catching driverless fast food trucks are the future. The tech on these trucks is pretty simple. They are loaded up with heaters, contactless payment machines and of course, lots of fried chicken. Users scan a QR code, select and pay for their order, and then pick up the package that they are directed to. It seems that this only works if you are ordering some of their more common items and don’t have any specific changes because the truck itself doesn’t prepare the food; because that would be crazy. People on the internet have been completely blown away by these contraptions, with some wondering when they would come to the US and further afield. One X user expressed that they were, “ready for this.” However, some people in the comments also pointed out that they would worry that their order would be incorrect or go cold. No matter what you think of how well these trucks would work in the US or Europe, they are a pretty crazy step towards the future. If you ever find yourself in Asia, keep your eye out for fried chicken on wheels.

  • KFC “chizza” is back, but there’s a catch – Dexerto

KFC “chizza” is back, but there’s a catch KFCKFC have brought back their infamous chizza, but it’s only around for a short time. Back in February, KFC launched chizza in the US after it had done a pretty solid run in countries like China, Taiwan and Germany. The curious food replaces pizza dough with two pieces of fried chicken, and is topped with melted cheese, marinara sauce and pepperoni slices. Although the dish received mixed reviews, with one food blogger mentioning that the “chicken was pretty soggy and the pepperoni tasteless.” Others, were elated when the dish was introduced. People even queued down the street when KFC launched a pop-up “Chizzeria” in New York City for one day only in honor of the dish: If you’re keen to try KFC chizza again, then you’ll have to start saving as it’s going to require a trip to the Phillipines. KFC have re-launched the chizza in the country with some extra pizazz. The dish now comes with pepperoni, pineapple, and green bell pepper for the topping. On top of this, they even advertised the double-decker chizza from their “secret menu” on their Instagram: KFC are known for their “doubling” of special chicken dishes, such as the Double Down that was available in March 2023 in the US. This ‘sandwich’ used two fried chicken breasts instead of burger buns and filled them with cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce. Now, you can get a chizza that is made up of a whopping four chicken breasts sandwiched together with marinara sauce and cheese. Although the reviews were mixed, the chizza certainly gained a lot of hype in the US, and with KFC regularly bringing it back in other countries, it could only be a matter of time before it returns Stateside.

  • KFC customer can’t believe what they found in the bottom of bargain bucket – Dexerto

KFC customer can’t believe what they found in the bottom of bargain bucket The MirrorA KFC customer was shocked to finish their chicken and find a purple tag at the bottom of their bargain bucket. KFC staff have weighed in on what this could be. A KFC customer has gone quite viral after posting a photo from a recent order from the chicken chain. In the photo, a purple tag is visible among the leftover food. Naturally, the customer has been asking for an explanation of what they found at the bottom of their bucket, as it’s not something you see every day. KFC employees online have given their two cents as to what this strange item in this customer’s food could be. Kentucky fried disaster leaves customer baffled The confused KFC customer took to Reddit to share the following photo, leaving the internet equally as baffled as themselves as to what this mystery item could be. Whilst it was nothing gross or unhygienic, the customer wasn’t sure what to make of this surprising addition to their meal, saying: “This was at the bottom of my bucket?” Several former and current employees of KFC commented on what this could be and said that: “It’s just the time tag for when the chicken should be thrown/isn’t good anymore.” According to employees online, these time tags are used to show staff how long food is okay to eat for after it’s been fried. The purple one means that this fried chicken is good for up to three hours. Whilst this could be a little alarming to see in your chicken, according to employees these tags get stuck to chicken on the warming rack quite often, and therefore end up fried into some tenders. If this ever happens to you, at least you’ll know that your chicken is fresh, just make sure that you don’t eat the paper tag.

  • KFC in China has a Durian Double Down and customers are lining up to taste it – Dexerto

KFC in China has a Durian Double Down and customers are lining up to taste it Twitch/GeezGiselleA Twitch streamer made the trek out to a KFC in China to try their limited-time Durian Double Down Burger and shared their verdict with viewers. To many around the world, Durian is known as the king of fruits thanks to its sweet custard-like flavor and rich nutritional value. The tropical fruit also has a reputation for its extremely pungent odor too. In fact, its smell is reputably so bad, every major airline in the world has a transport ban on the fruit. And it’s also banned on public transport and on hotel grounds in large parts of South East Asia. All things considered; Durian seems like a pretty odd choice for a burger topping. But that’s exactly what KFC in China decided to do with the fruit, releasing a limited-time Durian Double Down item on the menu. And one Twitch streamer decided they were brave enough to try it. GeezGiselle, who describes herself as a “nomadic travel streamer”, headed to a KFC in China to order the strange combination of fried chicken and fruit for herself. After opening the box, she gave viewers a closeup of the mashed durian between the two fillets of fried chicken before taking a bite. The burger was a little messy to eat, with the fruit oozing out of the edges. No doubt the reason Giselle was wearing disposable gloves. Despite the mess, and durian’s reputation, Giselle gave the burger a good rating. She described it as odd initially, but the more she ate of KFC China’s bizarre burger, the more she enjoyed it. “It’s actually not bad,” she told viewers, before taking another bite. KFC in China is pioneering a lot of unusual innovations lately. They recently rolled out driverless delivery trucks in partnership with Neolix.

  • KFC Chizza “Chicken Pizza” reviews are in and they’re exactly how you’d imagine – Dexerto

KFC Chizza “Chicken Pizza” reviews are in and they’re exactly how you’d imagine KFC / Twitter: @RollitupkKFC released their newest invention, a chicken and pizza meal combination called the Chizza, and people absolutely hate it. KFC has quickly grown from the company’s inception to one of the most popular fast food chains worldwide, and it doesn’t require an in-depth look to see why, offering cheap and tasty crispy chicken at a reasonable price. However, for some, given the opportunity to order fast food, they would rather spend their hard-earned cash on a timeless classic like Pizza. So, thought the inventors at KFC, why not combine the two iconic fast food meals, Chicken and Pizza, together to make a Chizza? Everyone will love it, right? Well, the reviews are in, and that’s not quite the case. KFC chicken pizza slammed as “horrible idea” One customer who was hopeful for the Chizza was a popular social media food reviewer @Rollitupk, but her hopes were soon dashed after she took her first bite. “KFC wronger than a F**K! For that chizza,” she captioned the post. “KFC, I don’t give a Kentucky fired f**k what you got going on, this ain’t gon work,” she blasted the chicken pizza invention. “If anybody go to KFC and get that chicken pizza and do a review and says it’s good, b*tch they done got paid,” she continues. She wasn’t the only one who thought the pizza looked unappetizing, as others compared the Pizza toppings to Lunchables: “KFC used the pepperoni pizza Lunchable toppings,” joked one viewer. Still, for some life is all about experiences, and by the looks of the reviews that are coming in on the Chizza it’s likely it won’t be on the menu for much longer, so for those curious go try it sooner rather than later.

Kevin Hart’s vegan fast food chain ‘Hart House’ shuts down after just two years Twitter: myharthouseComedian and actor Kevin Hart’s vegan fast-food chain, Hart House, has suddenly shut down all its locations just two years after its debut. Hart House, the plant-based fast-food chain co-founded by Kevin Hart, abruptly shut down all four of its locations on September 10, 2024, just two years after its launch. CEO Andy Hooper confirmed the closures in a statement to Eater LA: “The response to the product has been incredible, and we thank our committed team, customers, and community partners for their unwavering support.” The chain offered its own proprietary plant-based burgers, chicken sandwiches, and nuggets, steering clear of popular brands like Beyond and Impossible. Its flagship store, which opened in 2023, was situated in a high-traffic Hollywood location, close to competitors like In-N-Out and Chick-fil-A. In an Instagram post, shared by Hart House’s official account, the restaurant wrote: “To our team, guests, and community, who helped make the change we all craved. A Hartfelt goodbye for now as we start a new chapter.” Back in August 2022, before the opening of his plant-based restaurant chain, Kevin told The Hollywood Reporter that he wanted to offer “a plant-based option” after noticing a shortage of vegan choices in fast food. The comedian had previously shared in 2020 that he had adopted a mostly plant-based diet. “If I can give people a place to have the option that’s placed smack dab in the middle of where your McDonald’s, Chick-fil-A, and Burger King [are], people may see a Hart House and say, ‘I’m going to go plant-based today,’” he said. Hart House had locations in Westchester, Monrovia, University Park, and Hollywood. Notable influencers who visited include renowned food reviewer Keith Lee and social media star Jordan Howlett. As of now, the reason for the closures has not been publicly announced.

Kellogg’s boycott explained: Why are people refusing to buy from the cereal brand? Instagram: kelloggsusCereal and snack fanatics began a movement to boycott Kellogg’s brand after their CEO spoke out about them lowering prices. CEO of WK Kellogg Company, Gary Pilnick, joined CNBC for a segment of Squawk on the Street in late February. There, he spoke about the rising costs of food. He also revealed Kellogg’s plan to lower the price of cereal to make it a more affordable option for dinner. However, consumers took offense to his remarks and intentions after realizing Kellogg’s is likely going to inflate prices after people get hooked on cereal for dinner. People are now boycotting the Kellogg’s brand and refusing to buy their products despite items being marked down in cost (for now). TikTokers start a movement to “boycott” Kellogg’s brand Recently, TikToker Ash went to the grocery store. While there, she walked through the snacks and cereal aisles. Though she noticed Kellogg’s cereals like Fruit Loops and Frosted Flakes marked down to $2.99, Ash refused to buy from Kellogg’s brand after the CEO’s remarks. Cereal wasn’t the only markdown, though, as snacks like Cheez-its and Skinny Popcorn were listed as 2/$6.00. Still, Ash wasn’t giving in. “Nobody wants it,” Ash said as she filmed the aisles full of untouched Kellogg’s products. She hasn’t been the only customer to boycott the brand, though. Another TikToker, Jerica, went as far as asking people to follow suit and boycott Kellogg’s despite their lower prices. “Boycott Kellogg, f*ck ‘em, she said.” Multiple TikTokers also spoke out in Jerica’s comments section about how they, too, will be boycotting Kellogg’s. “Yes! TikTok spread the word,” wrote one user. “Boycott Kellogg’s for good,” another added. “Even with the markdown prices, why even bother going back to them after they showed us what they really think of us?” asked one user. Though Kellogg’s and its CEO are under fire, only time will tell if their brand can withstand the boycott.

Jason Sudeikis confronts Smash Bros player in wild new Taco Bell ad Taco Bell/NintendoA Super Smash Bros Melee player was confronted by actor Jason Sudeikis over his thoughts on Taco Bell in an absurd new ad. There may be no bigger video game crossover franchise than Smash Bros and in one of the most wild collabs yet, Marth main Austin ‘Reeve’ Reed found himself in a commercial alongside Jason Sudeikis. The ad, dubbed ‘Unethical Daytime Meal’ begins with Sudeikis reading a tweet by Reeve where he says “getting Taco Bell during the day feels unethical.” In response, the actor decides to use Taco Bell’s Cantina Chicken Menu to change his mind by showing up to a restaurant where Kentucky’s best Smash player was chowing down on some Taco Bell. “Is it daytime or nighttime?” Sudeikis rhetorically asks. “So what do you think, Reeve? Because [the tweets] plus the sun makes me think that your pants might be on fire. You get what I’m saying, right?” So far, Reeve himself hasn’t responded to his newfound fame, but others in the Smash community have taken notice. “Is there a Marth homie discount now that Reeve has appeared in a Taco Bell commercial?” asked fellow player Rishi. “Why is Reeve in a Taco Bell commercial with Ted Lasso?” another remarked. This isn’t the first time a Smash player has shown up on TV at an unexpected time. Last year, Smash Ultimate legend MkLeo was in a Fox News weather report.

  • Japanese fast-food chain delivers special pizzas just for dogs – Dexerto

Japanese fast-food chain delivers special pizzas just for dogs Pizza-LaJapanese fast-food chain Pizza-La has gone pet-friendly with a special pizza they deliver to dogs. Fast-food chains have to be creative these days now that they’re competing with way more restaurants thanks to services like Uber Eats and DoorDash. Pizza joints seem to have taken the crown when it comes to spicing things up. Pizza Hut specifically came up with new ways to use their boxes for things like moving into a new college dorm or even as a resume for your dream job. Japanese chain Pizza-La went above and beyond that by cornering an entirely new market of clientele. Thanks to some genius at the company, you can now order your dog its own pet-friendly pie. They’ll even deliver it to your four-legged friend thanks to a new nationwide delivery initiative. Pizza-La’s “Wanko” (Doggy in Japanese) Pizzas have been around since 2021 and began as an item sold in third-party pet stores. A short time after, certain stores in the Pizza-La chain began stocking the puppy pizzas. An intensely positive response from Japanese pet owners caused the company to begin selling the Wanko Pizza nationwide and on September 9, 2024, they even began delivering them. Don’t worry though, it’s not just run-of-the-mill meat-lovers. Pizza-La’s Wanko Pizza is based on its most popular dish, the teriyaki chicken pizza, but it has been vetted by a Japanese pet food company called Comfi Deli to ensure that its ingredients are safe for dogs to eat. It’s topped with teriyaki chicken, corn, mushrooms, and shredded seaweed but the base is made from chicken rather than dough to make it pet-friendly. If you’re traveling in Japan with your own dog, you can order one up and see for yourself. Do remember that the specialized doggy pizza does arrive frozen so you’ll need six hours to thaw it or two minutes in the microwave before your furry friend can eat it.

  • Japenese company selling $100 peaches from Fukushima nuclear disaster zone – Dexerto

Japenese company selling $100 peaches from Fukushima nuclear disaster zone UnsplashThe Japanese company responsible for the cleanup of the Fukushima nuclear disaster zone is selling $100 boxes of peaches grown in the area. In 2011, an earthquake and tsunami rocked the Tōhoku region of Japan, which caused the Fukushima nuclear accident, contaminating the town of Ōkuma in Fukushima. The disaster is considered one of the world’s worst disasters since Chernobyl. However, more than ten years after the incident, The Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco), which was the operator of the destroyed nuclear power plant, is looking to dispel any negative associations with the region. To do so, they are launching a sales campaign by selling $100 boxes of peaches that are grown in the zone. Being sold in the UK luxury department store, Harrods, Tepco is selling a box of three peaches grown in the Fukushima area for £80 (around $105 USD). That’s roughly $35 per peach. The goal of Tepco’s sales campaign is to convince shoppers to overcome any fears of radioactive contamination that may come with foods produced in the area. Before the disaster, the Fukushima prefecture was known for growing fruits such as peaches, pears, strawberries, and apples, even being known as the “Kingdom of Fruits”. The Fukushima prefecture still produces fruits and various other food products, but of course, most of it is not grown and cultivated in the nuclear disaster zone. The reason why these peaches could enter the UK was because import restrictions of food products from Fukushima were lifted, with small quantities of food from the region making its way to Britain. All this is part of Tepco’s effort to clean up the nuclear disaster. The company is responsible for its cleanup and community compensation. Roughly 164,000 local residents and 50,000 households were displaced by the disaster.

  • Jack In The Box launch new menu item set to rival the likes of KFC and Wingstop – Dexerto

Jack In The Box launch new menu item set to rival the likes of KFC and Wingstop Jack in the BoxBack in November 2023, Jack In The Box trialed brand new crispy chicken wings in its hometown of San Diego, California. These crispy chicken wings obviously proved popular with fans back then, because app users have reported being able to order these in certain locations. Jack In The Box tends to be a ‘Jack’ of all trades when it comes to fast food, as their menu doesn’t really focus on one type of cuisine. They have burgers, tacos, fries, and now, even more chicken. Will this new addition to the menu wind up giving the likes of KFC and Wingstop a run for their money? These bone-in crispy wings join chicken nuggets and chicken tenders in the coop at Jack In The Box, and fans who have seen these at their local drive-thru report that they come in three flavors: Buffalo, garlic parmesan, and classic. The wings come in portions of 6 or 12, and can be served as a combo with fries. They come packaged nicely in a box with a generous portion of three ranch dips for extra flavor. When it comes to flavors, Jack In The Box has pretty much covered all bases with classic chicken wing flavors, and drive-thrus are listing that it’s $8.99 for 8 wings, and $15.99 for 12 – if you want to make it a combo, you’ll be adding a charge of $3. People on Reddit were speculating as to when Jack In The Box officially launched these wings, and it seems that they did not advertise this new menu addition on any of their online channels, making for a pleasant surprise when customers paid a visit. Adam Padilla, a YouTube food blogger who reviewed these wings states in his video that he was driving past a Jack In The Box, saw they had wings, and ‘turned his a** around.” “Either I’m living under a rock, or they did not advertise this, because I did not know they did wings.” Jack in the box confirmed that these have been launched nationwide as of late June, and commented that: “Jack’s New Crispy Chicken Wings have overperformed initial expectations and they are excited to continue innovating in this category. And you better hurry, Jack’s Crispy Chicken Wings are only available for a limited time, so grab ’em while you can.” If you’re hungry for more chicken wings, why not check out this ranking of all the Wingstops wing flavors?

  • Is Starbucks open on Thanksgiving? – Dexerto

Is Starbucks open on Thanksgiving? StarbucksIf you are wondering if popular fast food and coffee spot Starbucks will be open on Thanksgiving, here’s what you need to know. With Thanksgiving here, what better way to celebrate the holiday season than by grabbing yourself a Peppermint Mocha, or a Caramel Brulée Latte from Starbucks? With many commuting to their family’s homes for the big day, picking up a coffee from a drive-thru might be part of the plan. However, with quite a few retailers closed for the holiday, many are wondering if Starbucks’ doors will be open. Will you still be able to pick up your seasonal coffee on this coveted day? We’ve got the answers. Will Starbucks be open on Thanksgiving day? The answer isn’t so simple, unfortunately. A spokesperson for Starbucks has said, “Store hours vary by location and stores may occasionally adjust their hours based on business and customer needs.” Starbucks stores typically operate somewhat independently, and so will be able to set their own opening times and dates. So, it all depends on your location. Chances are if you’re in a bigger city, your local Starbucks will more likely be open. If you’re in a more rural spot, things might get trickier. The spokesperson told people to “Look for specific store hours using the Starbucks app or by visiting our website store locator: Starbucks.com/store-locator.” Then you can avoid any potential disappointment.

  • Is viral McDonald’s Bob’s Burgers collab real? – Dexerto

Is viral McDonald’s Bob’s Burgers collab real? TikTok: @xanxoticThere has been a video circulating around TikTok featuring a McDonald’s burger, packaged inside a box featuring a design representing the popular cartoon, Bob’s Burgers. But is it real? TikTok went into a frenzy after a user on the platform who goes by the name, Xan, featured a short clip where they showed an image of a McDonald’s box, with images of characters from the popular cartoon Bob’s Burgers adorning it. On the box, we can see writing which reads: ‘Big Mac x Bob’s Burgers.’ In the video, Xan can be heard saying: “Well I’m driving over now to get my Bob’s Burger Big Mac, I’m so excited.” In the next video, he can be seen pulling into the McDonald’s drive-thru, and asking the worker if they have a Bob’s Burger Big Mac. Then it cuts to him with a brown McDonald’s paper bag, pulling out a series of Bob’s Burger merch, including a keychain, and a pack of cards. Is the Bob’s Burger collab real? After the video was posted on the platform, it quickly went viral, with people eager to find out whether or not the Bob’s Burger collab was real. “Is something different?” one asked about the burger itself, “Or are we excited for the packaging?” Many claimed that they’d actually ordered the limited edition items themselves, writing: “I got one today! Was the last one they had.” “I have yet to see this at McDonald’s. Where are they? In which state?” another asked. However, it turns out that Xan had everyone fooled, and it’s not actually a real item. As one eagle-eyed fan pointed out: “Am I the only one seeing the words underneath the limited time? That says ‘Not a Real Promotion.’” It seems that they were right, and the promotion was indeed, fake, as the creator replied saying: “One other person has seen it. Proud of you for paying attention lol.”

  • Is mukbang culture toxic? Viewers label food trend “disgusting” – Dexerto

Is mukbang culture toxic? Viewers label food trend “disgusting” TikTokMukbang culture have been around for a long time, as a way for people to eat vicariously through others and have their mouths watering at food influencer’s takeout hauls. However, after some concern was sparked for TikToker Jelly Bean Sweets, people have been questioning the darker side of mukbang content. Calling it disgusting, unhealthy, and downright weird, people are asking why we enjoy watching these videos, and if there is a darker side to mukbang content. Why do people find mukbangs satisfying? Mukbang culture originated in Korea in the early 2010s and was mainly posted on YouTube. The word combines the words for ‘eating’ and ‘broadcast’. Since then, it has become a huge worldwide phenomenon that’s reached new heights on TikTok. Much like ASMR videos, mukbang content falls into the ‘oddly satisfying’ category for some people. Popular mukbang influencers, like Jane Mukbangs and Dylan McArthur have amassed over 100 million likes exclusively for their eating content that often involves huge amounts of food, messy eating, and lots of chewing noises. People enjoy watching these videos for a multitude of reasons, and pyschologists at Nottingham Trent University found that people watched mukbang videos and engaged with mukbang content on a base level, as a source of entertainment. However, they also identified that people use the videos to eat vicariously without potentially damaging their own health (known as ‘feeder content’), as well as a way to escape from reality and feel less lonely if they often dine alone. “Watching people consume food online can make you feel more content and relaxed. By providing you with social connection and the chance to temporarily escape the hurdles of everyday life, it is no surprise that “mukbang” has become such a sensation over the years.” the study confirmed. Are mukbangs becoming rage bait? As is with most online trends, people go further and further to try and get more views and go viral, this has led mukbangs to become bigger, messier, and grosser. TikTokers like Moe Eats have taken to filming mukbangs in their cars, and even sometimes deep fat fry already fried food like Big Macs, inside their vehicles. This content has become more rage bait than satisfying as people watch in fear as people eat the messiest meals possible. The grossest trend that people identified in 2024 was the candied Chipotle burrito, where people were dunking their burritos in vats of hot sugar and then chowing down on it after it dried like hard candy. The darker side of mukbang culture Viewers have started to pick up on this shift in mukbang content, and new opinions of the food trend are forming as people claim the content is becoming toxic. Some people are concerned for the health of mukbang influencers who eat multiple fast food meals a day, and some are just sick of seeing these visceral videos on their FYP without a trigger warning: “No literally what happened to the mukbangs where ppl eat at a normal pace and talk to u like ur their friend”, noted one user, who was missing the chatty vlog style of mukbang content that was first popularized on YouTube. Another noted, “Like why are you dipping everything in canes sauce?” Alluding to the popular fast food trend of ordering a large drinks cup of sauce at Raising Cane’s. “I loved the 45 min mukbangs where they’re with a friend enjoying a meal and talking about life. Now it’s someone crying alone in the dark stuffing their face,” mentioned one user, commenting on the darker turn these videos seem to have taken. “I’m an avid mukbang lover, not because I watch them instead of eating but because the sound is genuinely calming. But when I see sauce dripping everywhere grrr, especially the squirming noises.” another said. After a YouTuber died during an eating livestream in July 2024, people are becoming more and more aware of the darker side of this content that promotes overeating and social isolation. However, these changing opinions aren’t hindering the popularity of mukbang videos on TikTok, as food influencers continue to rise in popularity. Whether people are watching these videos because they genuinely find them satisfying, or because they find them gross, still remains to be seen.

Is Red Lobster going out of business? Red Lobster is a popular hotspot for a lobster dinner and some of those famous Cheddar Bay Biscuits, however, despite clever marketing campaigns in the past few years (like their April Fools’ prank), the business has been struggling. Red Lobster filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy late on Sunday, May 19, 2024. In a statement, Red Lobster said it plans to sell “substantially all” of its assets. The company, which reported roughly $294 million in outstanding debt, added that the restaurants that were not closed in the mass shutdown would remain open for guests. There has been some turbulence for the chain in the past, having recently appointed their third CEO in two years. Contents: What is Chapter 11 bankruptcy? – Red Lobster closes more than a fifth of all locations – How did shrimp put Red Lobster in mega-debt? – What is the future of Red Lobster? – Full list affected by Red Lobster closures – What is Chapter 11 bankruptcy? According to United States Courts, “A case filed under chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code is frequently referred to as a “reorganization” bankruptcy. Usually, the debtor remains “in possession,” has the powers and duties of a trustee, may continue to operate its business, and may, with court approval, borrow new money.” This basically means that Red Lobster can still operate pretty much as normal whilst still technically being ‘bankrupt.’ Red Lobster closes more than a fifth of all locations According to a report published by CoStar on May 15 2024: “Red Lobster abruptly closed about 100 of its locations and is auctioning off equipment from some of those sites.” You can see a full list of the locations affected here. Their website currently states that these stores are, “temporarily closed.” At the same time, restaurant industry liquidator TAGeX Brands announced on LinkedIn that they would be conducting the biggest restaurant equipment auction ever. The Orlando-based chain will now be left with only around 500 restaurants across the US. How shrimp put Red Lobster in mega-debt According to Restaurant Business, the downfall of Red Lobster is down to “Leadership problems, a tough economy and all-you-can-eat shrimp.” In 2022, Red Lobster lost $33 million and closed 16 of their restaurants. In a bid to bring paying customers back to their restaurants, they launched $20 all-you-can-eat shrimp in Summer 2023. The deal was really popular and certainly brought seafood fans through the door, but supplying this much shrimp to their branches cost them $11 million in one quarter. Current owners Thai Union Group, who bought the chain for $2.1m in 2014, are currently preparing the brand for sale. What is the future of Red Lobster? As it stands now, Red Lobster is not currently going out of business, in that they are not currently planning to close all of their stores. News of the company filing for bankruptcy could be a step in the right direction as it allows Red Lobster to focus on the brand rather than their debt and to still serve customers, albeit on a smaller scale. Bear in mind that this is not the first fast-food chain to file for bankruptcy, and even McDonald’s and Wendy’s franchisees filed at one point. All closed Red Lobster restaurants Each of these restaurants is currently listed as “temporarily closed” on Red Lobster’s website as they prepare to liquidate. The chain is closing 15 of their stores in their home state of Florida. • Is McDonald’s really selling French fry perfume? Viral promotion explained – Dexerto

Is McDonald’s really selling French fry perfume? Viral promotion explained McDonald’s JapanThe prospect of smelling like a deep fryer was enough to get anyone who’s never worked in fast food excited. So, is McDonald’s actually selling french fry perfume? Say what you will about McDonald’s, they know what the people want. Whether that’s new and improved food or a Hello Kitty X Yu Gi Oh collaboration. Seriously, we desperately need Blue Eyes, White Kitty. McDonald’s Japan has a particularly solid grasp on how to market to people with its wholesome anime adverts achieving global appeal. They proved that yet again with a recent promotion involving special fragrances themed around iconic flavors. McDonald’s Japan stunned the world with a post on X that shows an elaborately packaged perfume based on the fast-food giant’s delicious fries. But is McDonald’s really selling French fry-scented perfume? McDonald’s Japan explains French fries Perfume promotion The initial post to McDonald’s Japan’s X account showed off three perfumes with distinct scents. These odors were plum nori seaweed salt, garlic black pepper mayo seasoning, and the iconic French fry smell. At first, many people believed that this meant McDonald’s was actually releasing a line of fast food fragrances. It’s understandable too, if KFC and a cryptocurrency can have their own perfumes, why can’t McDonald’s? Unfortunately, the allure of smelling like a salty French fry still eludes us. A spokesperson from McDonald’s Japan has revealed that french fry perfume is only a marketing ploy to advertise new flavors. “The image was posted as part of a promotion for the limited-time flavored fries product, and we would like people to enjoy the scent of fries and flavors. This perfume is not actually manufactured or sold,” the spokesperson explained in an email to Food & Wine. That’s not to say we’ll never be able to spritz ourselves with the delectable aroma of the world’s favorite salty treat. The interest shown in a french fry perfume may be enough to convince McDonald’s to release the fragrance publicly. Catch us at the front of that line.

  • Did Burger King discontinue the Whopper after 40 years? – Dexerto

Did Burger King discontinue the Whopper after 40 years? Burger KingBurger King appeared to “discontinue” their famous Whopper in an advertisement in South Korea, but it could be coming back sooner than you think. On Monday, April 8, an advertisement from Burger King in South Korea stated that Whoppers would be discontinued after Sunday, April 14, sending fast food fans into a panic. April 2024 marked the 40th anniversary of Burger King’s staple item and this announcement had some fans feeling suspicious that the Whopper wouldn’t actually be discontinued for real. The ad reads: “Whopper sales will end after 40 years. We thank everyone who has loved the Whopper all this time.” This sent a lot of burger fans into a frenzy, with some feeling disappointed, and others sure that it was just a marketing ploy. Later in the day, the company issued another announcement reassuring everyone that the decision to cease Whopper sales was not a joke. However this time, it encouraged customers to expect various promotions planned in celebration of the Whopper’s 40th anniversary, hinting at a “revamp” of the Whopper. Would Burger King really discontinue the Whopper? With The Whopper being Burger King’s biggest seller, it is unlikely that they would ever get rid of it. Fans speculated that the fast food chain would most likely announce a new and improved Whopper in South Korea, and it is unlikely that anyone in the US will have to say goodbye to their favorite burger any time soon. The new and improved Whopper After a day of no Whoppers, Burger King announced on April 15 that it would be carrying out a “fire-flavored project” to ugrade the iconic Whopper. The newly improved Whopper in South Korea has added salt and pepper to boost the umami and meat aroma. In addition, the patty is made thicker by applying the ‘tender form method’ which fills the spaces between the meat and the sauce. Also, the hamburger buns are now coated with a glaze to minimize moisture evaporation. The good news is that the price of the Whopper didn’t change, so customers can get the revolutionized Whopper for the same price. Bulgogi Whoppers and Cheese Whoppers are also on sale at South Korea Burger Kings. Panic over, they didn’t actually discontinue the Whopper, but it was a clever marketing ploy to make fans appreciate what they have before it’s gone (maybe). Could the US be getting a new Whopper? In 2023, Burger King vowed to revolutionize the company, with a focus on, “Reintroducing America’s love affair with the Whopper.” Tom Curtis, the president of Burger King North America, told CNN that this would include marketing campaigns surrounding the Whopper, as well as refining the process in the kitchen that goes into making the iconic burger. Although this is not a promise for a flavorful salt and pepper Whopper like in South Korea, it could be a hint towards some upgrades like McDonald’s did with their burgers. Do you think that the Whopper is the best burger out there? See how it measures up on our definitive ranking of the best fast food burgers.

  • Is McDonald’s leaving California? Rumor explained – Dexerto

Is McDonald’s leaving California? Rumor explained McDonald’sAmid the rise of fast food prices across the US, there have been some rumors that California will be saying goodbye to The Golden Arches for good. Though, it’s not true. Several online sources reported on this, leaving fast food fans in The Golden State distraught and fearing that they’d have to say farewell to the Big Mac once and for all. First of all, no, McDonald’s is not closing in California. There is currently no evidence that even one store is closing in the state. So, where did this rumor come from? Fast food prices are rising across the US, so much so that McDonalds’ CEO had to respond to the fact that some branches were charging $18 for a Big Mac. On top of that, the minimum wage for fast food workers went up to $20 per hour in California, which put even more pressure on franchisees to make ends meet. The tensions are high in the fast food world, especially in California, and it wasn’t just McDonald’s that was hit by closure rumors – Chili’s and Fuddruckers each had to make statements debunking rumors. “McDonald’s leaving California” began trending on Google at the start of June, and there are YouTube videos speculating about this massive blow to California, some gaining over 500,000 views in a day. There are a slew of articles reporting about the struggles that franchisees are facing, but it was MSN, Microsoft’s news aggregator, who posted an article suggesting that the chain might close. “McDonald’s on the verge of CLOSING in California After $20 Minimum Wage” has since been taken down. The article posted on MSN came from a site called United Library and was written by Tony Bonnai. The talented Mr Bonnai writes around 20 articles a day, some within minutes of each other. And as it turns out – Mr Bonnai is actually an AI-generated journalist. A quick Google search only shows his articles, and his articles look to be ‘clickbait’ that has been AI-generated from an accumulation of other news sources. SFGATE reported: “His author photo appears nowhere else on the web. TrueMedia, a tool for fighting A.I.-manipulated content, rated Bonnani’s headshot as “highly suspicious” for use of generative AI.” So, although United Library and Tony Bonnai didn’t start the rumor, they certainly made it look like a legit enough issue that news platforms were reporting on it. Yes, McDonald’s franchisees are struggling at the minute amid unprecedented inflation in the fast food industry, but McDonald’s has not announced that they are closing any of their stores. In fact, it announced that it would be releasing a $5 value meal to help customers get their favorite food for less. Other food chains, like Red Lobster, have filed for bankruptcy and publically announced the closure of a hefty amount of their stores, but McDonald’s is still going strong.

“Irate mob” of truck drivers fight police over McDonald’s french fries Unsplash: Nik, Matt PopovichA mob of truck drivers were arrested after they fought police officers in the parking lot of a McDonald’s. On March 21, five truck drivers from Ace’s Towing were involved in a heated altercation with police officers in a McDonald’s parking lot. The incident took place in Falmouth, Virginia, where two police officers were attacked in the midst of it all. Allegedly, the dispute began between the truck drivers and employees from McDonald’s over an order of french fries. Though it is unknown what was wrong with their french fries, the altercation that ensued afterward has plenty of detail. When told they’d be under arrest for trespassing, one of the drivers ran off and was tackled and handcuffed. Once he was seated inside the patrol car, Sheriff’s Major Shawn Kimmitz said that’s when an “irate mob” of truck drivers surrounded the arresting officer. During the arrests, another truck driver put an officer in a chokehold and threw him to the ground. It got so bad the officers had to use pepper spray and a taser to subdue the offenders. After the fight settled, two officers were sent to the hospital to treat their injuries. Once it was all said and done, only one truck driver was charged with a felony, while the remaining four drivers were charged with misdemeanors. All five offenders were released following their arrest on a “personal recognizance” bond.

  • Internet grossed out by how vegan meat is made – Dexerto

Internet grossed out by how vegan meat is made Youtube: Here is OregonA video on YouTube has surfaced showing how vegan meat is made, and many people were grossed out in the comments section. With Thanksgiving having just passed, many people sought alternatives to the classic turkey dinner. Tofurky is known as one of the most popular brands for vegans during this time of year. This brand was first established in the 1980s, in response to the demand for meat-free alternatives. It’s since become a staple in the vegan world. However, a video recently surfaced of how they actually make the vegan product. In the factory, members can be seen working in an assembly line, where they make the beige colored dough. After this, they mix it in with canola oil in order to get the correct texture. Then, they make the dry mixture that will be added in for seasoning, before the entire thing is put into a tube, then cooked and refrigerated. The video, however, has grossed many people out. People react to vegan meat-making process Often, it’s meat-based products that have people gagging when they see the production process. This time however, it’s Tofurkey that’s caused a stir on the internet. One commented, “This is how you never host Thanksgiving again.” Another concurred simply by issuing an “ick.” One commenter issued a sarcastic remark regarding the factory processing, saying: “We need more heavily processed food which takes waste, adds herbs and aromas and sells it as a premium product. Food processing in a nutshell.” People fought back however, stating, “I can’t find any vegans that are ‘put off’ by this. We are all pretty darn happy with our choices not to eat ground up dead animals!” Whether or not you sit down to a Tofurkey dinner at Thanksgiving, one thing’s for sure, the video has certainly sparked a lot of debate.

Internet divided after restaurant charges customers for live musical entertainment Instagram: katchkitchencocktailsFrequent diners have debated whether or not to charge service fees for live entertainment after one customer shared that they were charged extra to listen to music at a restaurant. Katch, a popular restaurant in Tucker, Georgia, just a short distance from Atlanta, was recently put on blast for adding a service fee for live musical entertainment. Even if customers only dined at the location solely for their food rather than music, they still had to pay the mandatory fee at the end of their meal. Those who have heard about the viral story have since reacted with different opinions, as some think it was okay to do and others not so much. Viewers not surprised restaurant was located in Atlanta Even after a hefty tab that totaled over $200, two Katch customers were charged $10 each for the live entertainment at the restaurant. It’s unknown if the pair knew they would be charged before their dinner service began. However, when they posted their receipt online, viewers quickly debated whether it was okay for the venue to charge them. Some raised the question of whether the restaurant made customers aware of the extra fee before they sat down to enjoy their meal. “As long as it’s stated prior to entry I don’t see the problem. Artists deserve to be paid,” one person wrote. Another agreed, “The entertainment fee is listed on the reservation link to the restaurant. There is no issue if it’s disclosed upfront.” However, many others thought it was absurd to add a fee for music that was never even anticipated, “Was ‘live band’ on the menu?? I think not, turn that sh*t off,” quipped one. Another viewer added, “Insane! If you can’t afford to pay them out of pocket, don’t book them! Smh.” Many were also not surprised that the restaurant was located in Atlanta, as it’s known that the area is more expensive than most.

  • Internet divided over bizarre chicken and waffles pizza combo – Dexerto

Internet divided over bizarre chicken and waffles pizza combo joes-rotisseria/Macy’s Place PizzeriaPeople have put some pretty strange things on pizza over the years, but chicken and waffles is definitely up there when it comes to bizarre toppings. The internet can’t quite decide if this is a great idea or a terrible one. Pizza is one of the most ubiquitous foods in the world, with people the world around taking the simple formula of cheese, dough, and sauce to create all sorts of food combinations. And, though there are a number of weird pizza concepts that have stuck over the years like buffalo chicken pizza, for instance, putting two good things together doesn’t always have a good result. KFC’s recent Chizza venture comes to mind. Now, with chicken and waffles pizza being thrown into the mix, the internet is torn on whether or not this is a genius creation or a food monstrosity. Internet torn over chicken and waffles pizza Chicken and waffles is a relatively new creation in the food world, with the sweet and savory combo being an increasingly popular staple in American cuisine. It’s a really solid brunch item for those looking to start their Sunday off right. However, some have had the positively devious idea to throw chicken and waffles on a slice of pizza. A video from joes_rotisseria has been making the rounds on TikTok and beyond as of late, and people aren’t too sure how to feel about this unconventional slice. While some responded with joy, others displayed cautious interest. “I have a feeling this is going to make my stomach hurt… I’ll take two!” one commenter replied. “Gotta call this one the ‘American Heart Association,’” another commenter joked. However, one of the biggest areas of skepticism here was about whether or not the tomato sauce combined with maple syrup is the move. Fortunately, this isn’t the first time chicken and waffles pizza has been attempted, there are some other takes on it. A version of this dish from Macy’s Place Pizzeria a few years back was doing something similar without the tomato sauce that used a larger Belgian waffle as a sort of boat for the syrup. It certainly isn’t the healthiest dish out there, but it seems like people are down to at least give it a shot. Who knows if we’ll see this become the next food trend?

  • Instagram chef called a “monster” for bizarre pasta salad made in a trash bag – Dexerto

Instagram chef called a “monster” for bizarre pasta salad made in a trash bag InstagramInstagram chef @katewilltryanything has been called a “monster” for making a bizarre pasta salad (that contains whole baby carrots) in a trash bag. Kate Heintzelman gets trolled online for her quintessentially American cooking that often involves an aluminium tray, a whole block of orange cheese, and several sticks of butter. However, this pasta salad took it a step too far, and people are concerned about her hygiene standards. The video features Kate adding cooked pasta, chopped tomatoes, peppers, sweetcorn, white onion, olives; and strangely a whole bag of baby carrots, to a white trash bag. She then tops it off with an entire bag of pepperoni, Costco shredded cheese, minced garlic, and an entire bottle of Olive Garden Italian salad dressing. The most shocking part is when she ties the trash bag in a knot and flips it over in order to mix all the ingredients around. Then, she unties the bag and scoops up some of the ‘salad’ using a glass bowl straight into the trash bag. Yes, the bag is clean and appears to be straight out of the pack, but watching the preparation process is far from appetizing. One person commented saying, “Leave it in the bag Kate and take it to the can now!” Another seconded that, noting, “This is why we’ve discontinued pot lucks at work.” Others were seriously concerned for the health of the chef though, noting that the bag could be scented or coated with something: “If you did it in a bowl I would be cheering, but the fact that garbage bags have dust coating like soap powder, this is once again, inedible. Dammit.” A lot of people in the comments have accused Kate of creating ‘rage bait’ food videos in order to cause angry comments under her videos and make her go viral. Is this just another rage-bait food video? Rage bait food videos have been a popular trend across social media since 2023, and really skyrocketed when TikToker Tanara Mallory went viral with her critiques of people’s strange cooking and coined the phrase, “Everybody’s so creative!” which she used to say ironically while showing she was horrified by some of the videos. The videos depict people making food that is virtually inedible in its cooking methods, prepared in something borderline unsanitary, or containing ingredients that should never be in your dinner, see NyQuil chicken. Essentially, they are feeding into our human need to watch a train wreck even when we know we should look away, and then, they go viral when we can’t stop our fingers angrily tapping in the comment section. This isn’t the only bizarre food video circulating the internet; people are making chicken fried watermelon.

The ramen and sushi restaurant hit back, saying that exposure doesn’t pay the bills. “Oh, what a surprise! Another thrilling DM from a blue tick superstar asking for a free feast in exchange for an Insta post. Because, you know, exposure pays the bills!” they said. “We’re just thrilled that you appreciate our food, but hey, we appreciate paying customers even more.” The influencer responded, slamming the restaurant for sharing her DM and trying to “expose” them. “So you think people like us don’t deserve to eat for free?” the person asked before making it clear that they would not be visiting the restaurant. Lucky Ramen and Sushi hit back at the person with a sarcastic response on their page. “Okay, aaalright… you got us! We’re truly sorry for attempting to uncover your behind-the-scenes tactics yesterday and, you know, us trying to make a living and sh*t – Swipe right to revisit yesterday’s exposé drama,” they said. “Bon appétit + Arigato-the-f*ck-outta-here” This isn’t the first restaurant drama involving an influencer that’s gone viral, either. Back in June 2023, a woman was kicked out of a restaurant for eating a burger with a knife and fork.

Right? Pretty easy.” she explains. “Nothing complicated about picking up some lemons. I guess they were out of stock. “And instead of just like, marking them as out of stock on the app and giving me a refund or asking if I want a substitution, my Instacart shopper thought that these fake plastic lemons would be a suitable replacement for a pound of real lemons… Hmm. Am I crazy or does this just like, not make any sense? Like, what am I supposed to do with these?” She then holds up the plastic lemons in question for viewers to see. People can’t stop laughing about Instacart plastic lemons After the video was posted on the platform, it gained over 22,000 views, and had everyone laughing over the mishap. “I thought you were going to say they got a bottle of lemon juice, but THIS?” one wrote, followed by a crying emoji. “I got buffalo chicken tenders when I asked for meatballs. • “Inappropriate” Chuck E. Cheese cup from Goodwill has TikTok cracking up – Dexerto

“Inappropriate” Chuck E. Cheese cup from Goodwill has TikTok cracking up TikTok: @cosmicdealheatherA woman found a vintage Chuck E. Cheese cup from Goodwill, noticed something unusual about the design, and it’s had the whole of TikTok cracking up. TikTok user @cosmicdealheather uploaded her video on July 13 and has since gained almost 4 million views. “This is not me calling it inappropriate,” she begins, “this is just the general rumblings of why they stopped making this cup.” She revealed that the cup was produced in 2012, before going on to show viewers why it was pulled from shelves. She unscrewed the cap, which had the torso of Chuck E. Cheese on top, to reveal a hole for a straw which is located directly at the front. Once the bendy straw is placed inside, we can see exactly what Heather is talking about. She speculated that the straw placement, which could have been deemed inappropriate by some, may have been the reason the cup was discontinued. In addition to this, and to give another reason for the cup’s short lifespan, she noted that the Chuck E. Cheese designs from the period appeared different from this one, and concluded that this design might have been dug out from the archives as a stop-gap for merchandise when the company was still figuring out their branding. “That’s my deep dive on the inappropriate Chuck E. Cheese cup,” she finished. Viewers weigh in on hilarious Chuck E Cheese cup Viewers found the whole cup saga thoroughly entertaining, writing: “I literally know nothing about Chuck E. Cheese but damn I watched this thing entirely through. Lowkey fascinating.” “Wow I had no idea Mr Cheese had lore,” another wrote. “When you said ‘Where kids rule’ that literally unlocked a childhood memory of me watching a Chuck E. Cheese commercial on a Saturday morning eating cereal,” one shared. “Yo I think you found a Chuck E. Cheese promo cup from a parallel universe or the just used unused merchandise,” another wrote, intrigued by the woman’s Goodwill find. Chuck E. Cheese also gained a lot of attention when people found out they were adding a ‘grown-ups’ section to menus, bringing a lot of nostalgia in the process.

  • Indiana judge rules tacos and burritos both count as sandwiches – Dexerto

Indiana judge rules tacos and burritos both count as sandwiches Unsplash: Chad Montano / Unsplash: Sasun BughdaryanAn Indiana judge has settled a contentious culinary debate, ruling that tacos and burritos are in fact “Mexican-style sandwiches.” The ruling follows after a 53-year-old developer, Martin Quintana, submitted a bid in 2022 to the Allen County Plan Commission in hopes of opening a restaurant in a local strip mall. The commission initially approved the proposal before backtracking due to a prior agreement with a nearby neighborhood association that prohibits fast food. While Quintana’s restaurant plan did meet certain standards by not having a drive-thru, outdoor seating, or offering alcohol, exceptions to the zoning policy only include establishments that serve “made-to-order” or “Subway-style” sandwiches. This sparked the age-old debate on what food category tacos and burritos fall under, with Quintana’s representatives stating, “It kind of became an argument of… is a taco a sandwich or not. So, we thought it’s easier to agree that it fits within the character and scope of what we had anticipated. And so we have an amendment.” Now, after nearly two years of legal battles, Judge Craig Bobay ruled on May 13 that Quintana would be allowed to open his Mexican-style restaurant, The Famous Taco. “The Court agrees with Quintana that tacos and burritos are Mexican style-sandwiches, and the original written agreement does not restrict potential restaurants to only American cuisine-styled sandwiches,” Bobay said according to the court documents. He went on to add that the new rulings also allowed an establishment that “serves made-to-order Greek gyros, Indian naan wraps, or Vietnamese Banh mi if these restaurants complied with the other enumerated conditions.” Quintana told Today he was “glad we’re [going to] be able to open,” sharing his relief and insisting there were “hundreds of people waiting for that spot.” “They really love The Famous Taco, so I’m glad everything is over,” Quintana said. It’s yet unclear when Famous Taco will open its doors to the public.

  • In-N-Out is expanding into another new state but there’s a catch – Dexerto

In-N-Out is expanding into another new state but there’s a catch AILegendary fast-food chain In-N-Out is set to make the move into another US state as long as they can clear some red tape. In-N-Out had long been a California staple with its famous animal-style fries and burgers conjuring a cult customer base. Word-of-mouth shout-outs praising the restaurant from the likes of the Kardashians and The Marvels’ Brie Larson have seen the chain explode in popularity in recent years. This has caused a rapid expansion by In-N-Out into new territories and a new restaurant opening usually results in a bit of a rush. The most recent franchise debut in Idaho caused an eight-hour line in its drive-thru. Now In-N-Out looks to continue that expansion into the State of Washington but the company may have to wait. The company is still waiting for the city of Ridgefield to approve a development permit. In-N-Out spokesperson Mike Abbate has commented publicly saying the deal is still “very early in the development process”. According to Abbate, construction of the restaurant could take between eight and nine months following any approval. The reason for the delay appears to be to ensure that Ridgefield is able to accommodate the potential rush for the first In-N-Out in the State of Washington. It looks like news of the Idaho incident reached the city council. In an interview with KOIN-TV, Ridgefield’s City Planner Steve Stuart revealed that Ridgefield was “working closely with In-N-Out to ensure they are not only creating enough queuing spaces to avoid backups onto roads, but also that the design of the building will be unique, high-quality, and complimentary to Ridgefield”. Here’s hoping that the residents of Ridgefield and the employees of the newly-opened In-N-Out aren’t too hampered by what may be an eventful opening. If approved, the Ridgefield In-N-Out will be the chain’s 418th location with stores now spread across nine states. In-N-Out currently has restaurants in California, Texas, Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, and Colorado.

But what happens when you find something unsettling inside your food order? Well, TikToker Darlene Gonone, who recently ordered from In-N-Out knows firsthand what it’s like to be repulsed by their fast food. Here’s why. In-N-Out customer says she’ll “never” eat there again In-N-Out customer Darlene was beside herself when she opened her side of banana peppers, also known as “cascabella peppers.” After eating a few, Darlene allegedly found a yellow worm squirming inside one of the peppers. Darlene even said she’d “never” be eating at In-N-Out ever again, as it was a “horrible experience” for her. Viewers of Darlene’s viral TikTok have since reacted with disgust. “Don’t do this to me rn,” wrote one user. “Bruhhh no I eat those everytime I go to In-N-Out,” said another. • IHOP is bringing back all-you-can-eat pancakes: Here’s how to get them – Dexerto

IHOP is bringing back all-you-can-eat pancakes: Here’s how to get them IHOPIHOP is bringing back their all-you-can-eat pancakes deal, and yes, you can really have as many as you want. IHOP’s pancakes are an iconic US staple food, and the good news is that the unlimited orders come with two menu options, but how many do you think you could eat? Customers will have two ways to access the endless supply of pancakes; the first is by ordering any IHOP breakfast combo (like steak and eggs or a breakfast sampler). The combo comes with a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, and after you finish that, you’ll be served two buttermilk pancakes at a time until you can’t eat anymore. The other option is to order a full stack of five buttermilk pancakes for $5 — with extra all-you-can-eat flapjacks coming out two at a time also. Both pancake deals come with only buttermilk pancakes — other flavors don’t qualify. This deal was first introduced in 2023 by Kevin Bacon and was incredibly popular with diners. At the time, it was in honor of Bacon (the food and the actor) and IHOP turning 65. (The Footloose star’s birthday is on July 8, and IHOP opened its first restaurant on July 8, 1958.) IHOP have brought this promotion back to coincide with back-to-school season so that parents have a cheap and convenient option to feed their kids at a time of year when things can get extra-pricey. The offer is available now, but will only be accessible for a limited time, so grab this sweet deal while you can. If you’d rather have a flavored pancake over the buttermilk, IHOP launches a new pancake for every month of 2024. The latest is July’s ‘Fresh Red, White, and Blueberry’. The stack of four buttermilk pancakes comes covered in fresh blueberries and strawberries and a whipped topping. They’re available until July 31. IHOP has also teamed up with Heinz to launch their original and butter pecan syrups in stores nationwide so that you can have the IHOP experience at home, these are now available at Walmart and Target. If you’re feeling something savory; Sonic has just launched a premium, low-cost, cheeseburger.

  • IHOP customer trolled after asking waitress for their number – Dexerto

IHOP customer trolled after asking waitress for their number TikTok: pickitup.elijahAn IHOP customer has been trolled online after asking his waitress for their phone number. Shooting your shot is important, as it allows you to speak your mind and act on your intentions. But it might be hard to receive a positive reaction when you’ve done so after only tipping the person $2.00. So when one IHOP customer asked for his waitress’s phone number after giving them a small tip, he was met with a refusal. TikTokers have since reacted, trolling the customer for how he attempted to score a date or two. IHOP customer tells waitress they are “beautiful” before being turned down Elijah was sitting at his IHOP table after his meal when he began recording his now-viral video. As the waitress walked towards him, placing his leftovers in front of him, Elijah chose to act on his feelings. Looking for something more than just pancakes, Elijah said to the waitress, “I just thought you were really beautiful and I was wondering if I could get your number or something.” The waitress responded promptly, saying that she had a boyfriend. Elijah then asked, “Well, I mean, where he at?” Grabbing the receipt, the waitress sarcastically responded, “Not tipping $2.00!” She then walked away, and if there were ever a perfect time for a mic drop — that would be it. Viewers of Elijah’s viral video jumped on the side of the waitress, taking to the comments to troll him for his weak excuse of courting her. One viewer wrote, “Dude struck out 3 times in a matter of 2 minutes.” While another penned, “My guy, you had that coming.” Many viewers also commented that it was always the “worst” tippers who expected to get their numbers at the end of their service. • IHOP customer claims “racist” server refused to wait on them – Dexerto

IHOP customer claims “racist” server refused to wait on them FlickrIn a viral video, an IHOP customer filmed their dining experience, where they claimed a “racist” server refused to wait on them. In a video that’s gained over 300,000 views, a TikToker revealed their dining experience at an IHOP restaurant. She says that a server told her that her shift was ending in eight minutes, and needs to close them out before they leave. She then asks for another server, but is told that the person on the following shift is unwilling to serve them because of their race. “What is she saying that the next server won’t take us because of our race?” Mitchell asks. “Because she said it. She said it.” “Yeah, I know. One of our morning waitresses, she’s picky,” the manager responds. “She’s not picky. She’s f**king racist. So why is she working here if she’s racist?” Mitchell asks. Apparently, the server in question has been working there for 25 years, and despite her behavior, has not been fired. TikTok weighs in on “racist” IHOP waitress After the video was posted on the platform, people were outraged at the TikToker’s experience. “IN 2024?” one wrote in capital letters, clearly shocked by the interaction. “I am so sorry you went through this! I am sitting at home mad as hell watching this. Virtual hugs to you! And all my love,” another wrote in support. “This is crazy. I wasn’t expecting it to be a big chain like IHOP!” Another commenter explained they had a similar experience at another major chain, claiming: “I live in Waco and it happened to my husband and I… And of all places… Buffalo wild wings! The manager comped our whole meal. They don’t care.” Another customer went viral in February, after they blasted a bubble tea store, claiming that they couldn’t choose a “no tip” option

  • How to order the viral McDonald’s breakfast tacos – Dexerto

How to order the viral McDonald’s breakfast tacos McDonald’s / TikTokBreakfast tacos are a staple fast food breakfast, but not something that you can order off the regular McDonald’s breakfast menu. If you don’t feel like a McMuffin, TikTok has invented a solution for you, and it’s a food hack that could change your breakfast order for the foreseeable future. The hack involves ordering some breakfast platters, and getting a little creative with them – here’s what to do. First up, you need to order two Big Breakfast Platters with Hotcakes from the McDonald’s breakfast menu, or “big back breakfast platters” as the TikTok describes them. Then, using the biscuit as a support and the clear lid as a tray, you’ll want to fold your hotcakes in half so that they become your taco shells. For the filling, all you need to do is cut up your eggs, but be sure to order them with a slice of cheese on top. Cut up your sausage patty too, and place both inside the tacos. You’ll also want to crumble the hash brown over the top, and be sure to add bacon if you want to truly have a ‘big back breakfast’. Finally, pour that syrup sachet over the tacos as if it were salsa or guac, and you’re good to go. That biscuit is still spare, so it’s perfect for dessert. The TikToker, who invented this food as a pregnancy craving, eats the dish with her partner, who states that he had, “No doing in this, but was happy to be a part of it.” People in the comments were absolutely obsessed with this invention, with someone exclaiming, “Spectacular, give me 14 of them.” Another added a possible suggestion, “Hear me out, add salsa instead of syrup.” A third person took it a step further, tagging McDonald’s corporate and saying, “If this ends up on the menu, you better get a big fat check.” If you’re never awake on time for McDonald’s breakfast, have no fear, because they have launched an internationally inspired menu as part of their daytime offerings.

  • Iconic Chuck E. Cheese mascots finally being retired – Dexerto

Iconic Chuck E. Cheese mascots finally being retired Wikimedia CommonsThe beloved animatronic character we all remember from our childhood birthday parties are finally being retired in all but two Chuck E. Cheese locations. That’s right: you read that correctly. Chuck E. Cheese’s’ iconic character is being fazed out by the company after almost five decades in the limelight. The iconic mouse first made his appearance back in 1997, when chain owner Nolan Bushnell attended the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions and found character costumes for sale. He subsequently bought a costume for his pizza joint, which we now know as Chuck E. Cheese. The character has undergone several changes throughout the years, first heralding a New Jersey accent and smoking a cigar, before undergoing a more child-friendly makeover with softer features and boasting a skateboard in 2001. The last change was in 2012, when he was transformed into a guitar superstar to shake things up. But now, the mascot has seen his final stint on stage. The mechanical animal band is being phased out from more than 400 Chuck E. Cheese locations permanently by the end of 2024 – except for one restaurant in New York, and one in Los Angeles. CEO David McKillips said this was the brand’s “most aggressive transformation to date.” “Kids are consuming entertainment differently than they were 10, 20 years ago…. kids, really of all ages, are consuming their entertainment on a screen,” McKillips said, speaking of the move away from animatronics. The regular Chuck E. Cheese band that performs religiously at the restaurant is set to be replaced by a Jumbotron-size TV, more seating, and a digital dance floor. Chuck E. Cheese isn’t the only one making big changes. McDonald’s has just rolled out its ‘best burger’ initiative, where the chain is set to change the flavor of its beef patties. People can expect these burgers to make their way to menus throughout the course of 2024.

How to order Costco’s secret menu pizza: Hidden code explained TikTok/ TimeOutAccording to TikTok, you can quote a special code when ordering at Costco and they’ll give you a chicken baked pizza. TikToker @therussianonig posted a video showing a “chicken bake pizza” that he was able to order using a “secret code.” Although the video does not state what is on the pizza, it looks like it has a white sauce base with BBQ chicken and lots of cheese. However, according to the video, if you ring ahead to order your pizza and quote the code, “69247” they will make you this enormous chicken feast. The TikToker warns that if you just ask for the pizza by name, staff will not make it for you, so it’s essential that you quote the code. Some people in the comments claim that they tried this and it didn’t work, but another viewer mentioned, “I tried to order it with the number. I went to the store and they gave me a giant cookie with cheese and pepperoni.” Which sounds a little less appetizing. Costco stores have self-serve kiosks where you can order using a touch screen, and on this screen, there is an option to enter codes for food, so you can enter the code in this way if you don’t want to quote it over the phone. According to the TikTok, this secret menu pizza will only cost you ten dollars, that is, if you remember the secret code for ordering.

  • How to make the viral Chipotle grilled cheese burrito – Dexerto

How to make the viral Chipotle grilled cheese burrito TikTokFast food fans have decided that a regular burrito isn’t enough, and are taking things into their own hands and getting creative with their Chipotle orders. And now, you can make these cheesy monster burrito, too. This burrito was invented on TikTok in May, and since then, food bloggers across the site have been replicating this crunchy burrito with a custom dipping sauce. Although the main components of the meal can be ordered from Chipotle, you’ll need to do some cooking if you want that crispy grilled cheese outer layer. How to make a viral grilled cheese burrito from Chipotle The hack involves ordering a burrito bowl from Chipotle with your filling of choice, if you want it to be a mega-burrito, order everything in the bowl. You’ll also need to order a side tortilla, a portion of sour cream, and a portion of their classic vinaigrette. On top of that, you’ll need a bag of your favorite grated cheese. The hack is also officially Chipotle-approved, as they reposted a video of a TikToker making the monster burrito. TikToker Yano prides himself on being able to roll huge burritos using the ‘Chipotle method’, which involves folding the tortilla over the fillings and using the edges to pull the fillings back into the middle to allow for a tighter roll. To make the grilled cheese version, you then need to add a hefty amount of grated cheese to a frying pan and cook it for a few minutes until it starts to melt and form a hard crust on the bottom. Then, place your burrito on top while the top layer of cheese is still melting so that it sticks to the exterior of the tortilla. Once the cheese is fully browned and crispy, flip your burrito and take it out of the pan. Now, all you need to do is make the iconic dipping sauce. Simply pour half a portion of sour cream into a portion of the vinaigrette and place the lid back on. Then, shake until it is fully combined, and dip your burrito until your heart is content. And why not dip it in some guac while you’re at it too? People in the comments swear by this hack, with several stating that they thought they were the only ones who knew about the secret dip. Others were left craving one of these after watching the videos, saying that their cravings for Chipotle have been reinstated. This viral trend couldn’t have come at a better time for Chipotle after they faced backlash over their portion sizes back in May.

  • How to make the perfect Starbucks egg bites recipe at home – Dexerto

How to make the perfect Starbucks egg bites recipe at home StarbucksStarbucks egg bites are a popular breakfast choice on the go, but here’s the recipe so that you can make them at home. Learning how to make Starbucks at home is the ultimate life hack, and this Starbucks egg bite recipe will make sure that you’re always stocked up on the most important meal of the day. The egg bite has become a staple of the Starbucks menu, especially for those who want to avoid some of their more calorific options. They come in mushroom and cheddar, bacon and Gruyère, and egg white and roasted red pepper variants, and are priced at around $5 for two bites, but you’ll get more bang for your buck if you make them at home. Starbucks egg bites recipe If you want to try the popular egg bites but don’t want to leave the house, we’ve got you covered. Prep: 5 mins – Cook: 30 mins – Servings: 12 – Ingredients: 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, or as needed – 8 large eggs – 1 cup full-fat cottage cheese – 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese, divided – 1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese – 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce (optional) – 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt – 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper – 3 strips bacon, cooked and chopped – Silicone cupcake mold with 12 sections – Method: Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F and grease your silicon mold with olive oil or low-calorie cooking spray. – Combine eggs, cottage cheese, 3/4 cup Gruyère, all of the Monterey Jack cheese, hot sauce, salt, and pepper in a blender and blend at medium speed until smooth, about 30 seconds. – Meanwhile, boil a large pot of water. – Place the silicon mold in a large high-rimmed baking tray (this will act as a bath for your eggs) and pour the egg mixture evenly between the cupcake molds until they’re all about 3/4 full. – Sprinkle the remaining cheese and bacon on top of your egg bites and season as you like. – Carefully pour the boiling water into the baking tray (avoiding your eggs) until the tray is about halfway full. – Carefully place the whole thing into the preheated oven, and cook for about 25-35 minutes until the egg bites look firm and the cheese on top has melted. – Allow the bites to cool for five minutes before removing them from their molds and serving. – What makes Starbucks egg bites so fluffy? At Starbucks, these egg bites come already prepped sous-vide to maintain their fluffiness, but at home, the answer is simple – cottage cheese. Because the mixture is pretty much half egg and half cottage cheese, the egg bites get really fluffy when they’re cooked due to added protein and air bubbles during the blending process. If you want to cut out the cottage cheese, you can add a dash of 1% milk to the mix to get that fluffy texture. You could also use cream if you want them to be extra-decadent, try using whipping cream. What is sous-vide? Sous-vide is a fancy cooking method that requires a special machine and a fair bit of cookery skills. The method pretty much entails taking foods like meat (or egg bites) and vacuum sealing them before cooking them in a bath of boiling water. The main benefit of this cooking method is that the food self-braises and is never over or underdone, it is always perfectly cooked. That’s what makes Starbucks egg bites so perfect every time and why this recipe involves a kind of bath to mimic that cooking style. Egg bite recipe flavors You can go with the classic Starbucks recipes, or make the egg bites plain, but you can pretty much add any cooked ingredients you want into these little breakfast bites. For example, if you want yours to be really full of protein, opt for spinach and chicken. A few other flavor combos to try are: Sundried tomato and pesto – Kimchi – Buffalo Chicken – Broccoli and parmesan – Jalapeno popper – Feta and chive – Sausage and black pepper – While you’re making your egg bites, why not try making some Starbucks cold foam at home? Or maybe even a refresher to wash down your new favorite breakfast recipe?

  • How to make Starbucks coffee at home according to an ex-barista – Dexerto

How to make Starbucks coffee at home according to an ex-barista StarbucksHere’s how you can make some of the most popular Starbucks coffees at home. Once you’re done reading these recipes, all you’ll need is a green apron to complete the look. Working at Starbucks for around five years, I was able to memorize the long list of Starbucks recipes like the back of my syrup-covered hands. That being said, it’s hard to replicate some of the Starbucks drinks at home without the specialized equipment that you’ll find at your local Starbucks. Not to worry though, I have some crafty workarounds. Starbucks relies so much on making handcrafted drinks accurately and quickly so that your daily coffee order is the same every time. Because of that, their coffee machines dispense the exact amount of coffee for you, and the milk steamers turn off at exactly 145.4 Fahrenheit. With all of the Starbucks drinks available on the menu (not to mention that pesky secret menu) it can seem like there would be endless recipes for the baristas to memorize. Actually, though, most of their drinks have a simple base recipe with the syrups and toppings making all the difference, which makes it easier for you to make at home! Contents How to get your coffee to taste like Starbucks at home – Recipes for Starbucks drinks at home – How to customize Starbucks coffee at home – How to get your coffee to taste like Starbucks at home For any of these drinks that require espresso, you’re going to need a method of making coffee. Whether you have an espresso machine at home, a French press, a Nespresso machine, or just instant coffee, all of these drinks will require a small shot of strong coffee to mimic espresso shots. About 2oz of whatever coffee you choose should do it, but remember to make it strong as you’ll be mixing it with milk and syrups. If you want it to taste even more like the real thing, you can buy Starbucks House Espresso beans to grind in an espresso machine. You can also buy Starbucks VIA instant coffee if you want a quick fix. Recipes for Starbucks drinks at home Latte What you’ll need: 14oz milk of choice – 2oz strong, hot coffee – Milk jug – Milk frother – Coffee cup – Method: Add your chosen coffee to the bottom of your coffee cup. Heat your milk of choice in a saucepan or microwave until it’s hot enough to drink but hasn’t curdled. Pour the milk into your milk jug and use your handheld milk frother/steam wand on your coffee machine to create a ‘micro-foam’ on top of the drink. For lattes, you’re going to place the frother at an angle about 1 inch under the surface of the milk and froth until there is a layer of foam on top. To avoid excess bubbles and keep your milk smooth, make sure you keep the frother under the surface of the milk. Then, tap your milk jug on the counter gently a few times to pop any pesky air bubbles, and pour your milk into your cup with the coffee. Don’t worry about the fancy latte art, that doesn’t make it taste any different. Cappuccino What you’ll need: 14oz milk of choice – 2oz strong, hot coffee – Milk jug – Milk frother – Coffee cup – Method: The steps for this one are pretty much the same as the latte, but the only difference is how you steam the milk. Place the frother/steam wand on your coffee machine about two inches under the surface of the milk and froth until the milk is nice and bubbly. Don’t worry about tapping those bubbles out, the more light and airy, the better. Pour on top of your coffee and enjoy. Americano What you’ll need: 14oz boiling water – 2oz strong, hot coffee – Coffee cup – Method: This is the easiest coffee you could make yourself. Simply pour boiling water into your cup and add your coffee on top. If you want to make it sweet or add milk, do so to your taste. Fun fact about the humble Americano: The drink was actually named this during WWII because when US soldiers came to Europe they asked for water to be put in the double espressos that the locals were drinking, and so the Americano was born. Hot chocolate What you’ll need: 14oz milk of choice – Hot cocoa powder (you can buy Starbucks hot chocolate powder) – A dash of boiling water – Milk jug – Coffee cup – Whipped cream – Method: Add two heaped tablespoons of your hot cocoa powder of choice to the bottom of your coffee cup. Add a dash of boiling water to the cup and stir the mixture until you have a thick chocolate sauce. Heat your milk in a saucepan/ microwave and add to your chocolate mixture. Stir until everything is well combined and top with whipped cream. Mocha 14oz milk of choice – Hot cocoa powder (you can buy Starbucks hot chocolate powder) – 2oz strong coffee – Milk jug – Coffee cup – Whipped cream – Add two heaped tablespoons of your hot cocoa powder of choice to the bottom of your coffee cup. Add your coffee to the cup and stir the mixture until you have a thick chocolate and coffee sauce. Heat your milk in a saucepan/ microwave and add to your chocolate mixture. Stir until everything is well combined and top with whipped cream. Caramel macchiato What you’ll need: 14oz milk of choice – 2oz strong, hot coffee – Vanilla extract – Caramel sauce – Method: Despite the name, caramel macchiatos are actually made with vanilla syrup and just topped with caramel sauce. To make these, you basically make a latte upside down. Heat your milk and froth it up the same way you would a cappuccino. Then, add half a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the milk and stir until everything is combined. Pour your vanilla milk into your cup and pour the coffee on top, trying to only pour it so that it leaves behind a small dot of coffee. Then, take your caramel sauce and drizzle it on top of the drink in a crosshatch pattern. White mocha What you’ll need: 14oz milk of choice – 2oz strong, hot coffee – 4oz condensed milk – Whipped cream – Method: Add your condensed milk to the bottom of your cup and pour the coffee on top. Mix well with a teaspoon until well combined. Heat your milk in a saucepan/ microwave and add to your white chocolate mixture. Stir until everything is well combined and top with whipped cream. Iced brown sugar shaken espresso What you’ll need: 7oz milk of choice (preferably oat) – 3oz strong, hot coffee – 2 tbsp brown sugar – Ice – Cocktail shaker – Glass and straw – Method: Add your hot coffee and one cup of ice to your cocktail shaker along with the brown sugar. Ensure the lid of your cocktail shaker is secure and then shake well until the coffee is fully cooled and the sugar granules have dissolved. Pour the ice and coffee mixture into your glass and top up with more ice if needed. Pour over your oat milk until the glass is full, stick your straw in, and enjoy one of Starbucks’ most popular iced coffees. Starbucks Refreshers There are several different types of Starbucks Refreshers made with a variety of juices. To find the recipe for your favorite flavor, have a look at our specific Starbucks Refreshers recipe guide. Caramel frappuccino What you’ll need: 2oz milk of choice (preferably whole) – 2oz strong, hot coffee – 1 tbsp simple syrup – 2tbsp caramel syrup – Blender – Ice – Caramel sauce – Whipped cream – Glass and straw – Add your coffee, milk, caramel syrup, simple syrup, and ice to your blender and blend until everything is combined well and no chunks of ice remain. Take your glass and drizzle the caramel sauce around the sides of the cup. Pour your homemade Starbucks Frappuccino into the glass and top with whipped cream and more caramel drizzle. Pumpkin spice latte What you’ll need: 12oz milk of choice – 2oz strong, hot coffee – 1 tbsp brown sugar – 1 tsp ground cinnamon – 1 tsp ground nutmeg – 1 tsp pumpkin puree – 3 tbsp condensed milk – Orange food coloring – Coffee cup – Whipped cream – In a mixing bowl, combine your condensed milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, pumpkin puree, and nutmeg until it is well combined. If it’s a little thick, water down with boiling water until it’s at a consistency that you’re happy with. Then, add a small drop of orange food coloring to get that pumpkin color. Add 2 tbsp of this mixture to the bottom of your coffee cup and pour your coffee on top and mix until well combined. Then, heat your milk and pour to fill the cup, leaving a one-inch gap at the top. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of nutmeg. Toffee nut latte What you’ll need: 14oz milk of choice – 2oz strong, hot coffee – 1 tsp caramel syrup – 1 tsp hazelnut syrup – Whipped cream – Candied almonds – Coffee cup – Method: Add both the caramel and hazelnut syrups to the bottom of your cup and give the cup a quick swirl to combine. Then, pour your coffee on top and swirl again. Heat your milk in the microwave/saucepan and pour it on top of the coffee before topping it with whipped cream and some crumbled candied almonds. How to customize Starbucks coffee at home The best bit about all of these drinks is that you can customize them how you like. Want a chocolate frappuccino instead of a caramel one? Use the chocolate sauce you’ve made for the hot chocolate or mocha. Want your pumpkin spiced latte iced? Don’t heat the milk and pour all of the ingredients over ice. Get creative! All of these drinks can also be made dairy-free if you use plant-based milk alternatives, avoid condensed milk, and check the ingredients of the syrups you use. How to make Starbucks cold foam at home StarbucksStarbucks cold foam is a staple item on their menu, but there’s an exact science to making that delicious cloud of goodness – and you can recreate it at home. Starbucks first introduced cold foam back in 2014 when they opened at Reserve Roastery in their founding city of Seattle. Since then, it has become a large part of their iced coffee menu with many flavored variations. Cold foam can be layered on top of any drink and instantly makes your coffee ten times more aesthetically pleasing for your Instagram feed. More than that though, the clever invention from Starbucks mimics the light foam that comes with a cappuccino or latte and gives your iced coffee drink a better texture. After working in Starbucks for several years, I have edited this recipe so that it’s easy to make at home without any special blenders or equipment, and now you can make it too. Contents Starbucks sweet cream cold foam recipe – How does Starbucks make cold foam – Can I make Starbucks cold foam at home with non-dairy milk? – Starbucks sweet cream cold foam recipe If you want to recreate Starbucks’ sweet cold foam at home, here’s everything you’ll need: Nonfat milk – 1 tbsp powdered sugar – 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (or whatever flavoring you’d like) – Ice – Your coffee of choice – Small jar with a lid – Method: Ensure that your nonfat milk is fully refrigerated. For the cold foam to work, the milk needs to be as cold as possible. – First, you’ll want to prepare whatever iced coffee you would like the cold foam to go on top of. For example, pour your French press coffee into a tall glass, and add milk and ice until the drink is to your taste and fully cooled. It also looks really good on top of a black coffee. Be sure to leave a 2-inch gap at the top of the glass for the cold foam. – Take your milk out of the fridge and pour a small amount of it into your jam jar. Around 1oz should do it. – Add the powdered sugar and vanilla (or other flavoring) to the milk. – Screw the lid tightly on your jam jar and shake the mixture until it becomes a thick foam. This could take a few minutes. – Once your milk has thickened into a cold foam, spoon the mixture on top of your drink and enjoy! – How Starbucks make its cold foam When cold foam is made in-store at Starbucks, a special blender is used to create that micro-foam in a chilled form. The milk is kept really cold and the blending jug itself has tiny blades that whip the milk into a nice texture. But, the jam jar at home does the same trick. What’s key in this recipe is that your milk is really cold, this is because colder liquids are more viscous and help trap air bubbles in the milk. You also need to make the cold foam in small batches because too much liquid will make the drink too heavy to turn into cold foam. And lastly, you’ll need to make sure the powdered sugar is included. The sugar helps the whipped milk thicken and gives it a nice sweetness. Aside from those specifics though, you can be creative with your cold foam. Add whatever flavorings and colors you’d like, and if you feel that your additives have made the foam too thin, add more powdered sugar to substitute. Can I make Starbucks cold foam at home with non-dairy milk? If you’ve ever tried to order cold foam in Starbucks with dairy-free milk, you’ll definitely have been told that this is not possible. This is because plant-based milks are made up of too much water for the whipped cold foam to work. However, there is a workaround for this at home. What you’ll need: Oat milk or homemade cashew milk (other non-dairy milks won’t work) – Vegan whipped cream – Vanilla extract – Milk jug – Handheld milk frother – Method: Add your vegan whip with 1/4 tsp of vanilla extract to your milk jug. – Add a dash of oat/cashew milk. – Use your frother to froth the cold foam until you’re happy with the consistency. – Add to the top of your cold drink of choice. – If you want to try to make more of Starbucks’ menu items at home, check out our other guides, such as how to make Starbucks Refreshers, or Starbucks coffee at home.
