I recommend going inside if you still want him to order,” a third suggested. Sometimes spending time with relatives is a long-awaited journey that kids look forward to. There are extra snacks, more attention, and rules that can be broken without repercussions. However, when one 7-year-old girl went to visit her dad’s side of the family, she was presented with the opportunity to get a tattoo by her aunt. Since coming home, the girl’s mother has been mortified, having called both CPS and the police on the aunt who tattooed her daughter’s leg. 7-year-old’s aunt tattooed multiple people without changing the needle In a now-viral TikTok video sequence, a mom shared the story about how her 7-year-old daughter got tattooed by her aunt in California. The daughter, whose name is Jayde, apparently called her mom to ask for permission to get a tattoo, to which the mom said no. She then hung up on Jayde, not taking her daughter seriously. Little did Jayde’s mom know that she was legitimately going to get a tattoo, despite the answer she received from her mom. In the mom’s four videos that she uploaded to TikTok, she exposed the illegal act, urging viewers to watch who they let around their children. She also could be heard questioning her daughter to explain the situation, asking, “Whose idea was it for you to get a tattoo?” Jayde then responded, “Auntie’s.” Though Jayde is only 7 years old, the aunt went ahead and tattooed a heart on her leg. She then proceeded to tattoo at least two other people without changing the needle. Luckily for Jayde, she was first and was not subjected to a dirty needlepoint. Since sharing her story to TikTok, Jayde’s mom received plenty of support about the situation. One person was so baffled by the thought of an underage child getting a tattoo, saying, “The way I would’ve pressed charges!! Omg at freaking SEVEN?!” While another complimented the mom’s tamed temper, saying, “OMG, I know it’s taking everything in your power not to knock on her door.” Others were left “horrified” saying that their jaws had dropped at the thought of the same needle being used over and over again. Jayde’s mom even uploaded a video exposing the aunt who tattooed her daughter. One TikToker then explained how tattooing someone under the legal age is considered “child abuse.” Though Jayde’s mom hasn’t updated TikTok on whether or not the aunt will face charges for tattooing her daughter’s leg, it seems as though she will do just about anything to protect her daughter going forward, saying to TikTok she was extremely angry about what occurred.

  • TikTok may get further US state government bans over alleged “spying” threat – Dexerto

TikTok may get further US state government bans over alleged “spying” threat Unsplash: SolenFeyissaTikTok may get banned from New York state government devices over an alleged “spying” threat, following in the footsteps of other US states. On December 6, 2022, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan issued a statewide ban on TikTok that prevents government officials from installing the popular app. Governor Hogan issued the ban due to alleged cybersecurity issues, such as a “spying” threat. New York may be following the trend as well, as a new bill introduced would ban government employees from downloading TikTok on state-issued devices. New York may ban state employees from TikTok Filed on December 9 in the New York state senate, the law was created to amend the state’s existing technology law. The purpose of the bill is to “reduce the potential security threats posed by the use of TikTok, a Chinese-owned social media platform, on government devices.” To explain why they justify the action, the lawmaker explained that the platform extracts a “vast amount of data from over 135 million users in the United States” and that the government has been concerned about how the data is used. “TikTok denies that it shares data with the Chinese government. However, the Chinese government could force TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, to share the data it collects on its users pursuant to Chinese national security laws that require companies operating in China to share their data with the government upon request,” they added. If passed, this ban would follow in the footsteps of the US Military as well as the states of Texas, Maryland, South Dakota, South Carolina, and Nebraska. It would still allow the general public to access the short-form video app, however.

  • TikTok making massive change to Stories that you may have missed – Dexerto

TikTok making massive change to Stories that you may have missed TikTokTikTok stories are undergoing a bit of a big change on the app, and if you don’t look carefully, you might just miss them. As TikTok has continued to grow and grow over the last few years, the video-sharing app has become a massive part of any social media users routine. The app is filled with a wide range of content, with everything from dance routines, cooking recipes, pranks, and much popping up. Like Snapchat and Instagram, users also have the option to share ‘Stories’ – posts that only last for 24-hours, rather than staying on the app as a permanent thing. Well, if you hadn’t noticed, the Stories have now changed on TikTok in a pretty big. Just like it’s rivals, TikTok stories had, previously, only been viewable by those accounts that follow your profile. They had to open your page to see the small Stories icon amid your other posts. Now though, as tech reporter Matt Navarra pointed out, stories will now move from your profile and join the For You Page. That means they’ll join all the other posts and live streams on TikTok main page. Not only that, but the story posts will be able to be viewed by anyone, just those accounts that follow you, and they have a new name – Quick. You’ll be able to tell the difference between a normal post and a story due to the small tag on the scene. Here’s what TikTok Stories will now look like in your FYP 3/4 pic.twitter.com/vlbpCSOaWY — Matt Navarra (I quit X. Follow me on Threads) (@MattNavarra) January 17, 2022 It remains to be seen if this will be a long-term change for the app, especially as Stories are now viewable by everyone. It may turn out to be a less than popular change that prompts a revert. As we’ve seen before with new features like donations, they are typically rolled out on a slow basis, so don’t be concerned if your app hasn’t changed just yet, it will eventually.

  • TikTok Lugnuts challenge: Teachers slam “stupid” new Devious Lick trend – Dexerto

TikTok Lugnuts challenge: Teachers slam “stupid” new Devious Lick trend UnsplashTikTok has seen its fair share of dangerous trends over the past year or so, but a new one might take the cake, with users warning others that the lugnuts from their cars are being messed with. For most users, TikTok has become synonymous with singing and dancing trends. Artistic users want to show off their talents in different ways, but things have changed over the last year or so. Take a few scrolls through the For You page and you’ll likely come across a new trend of some kind – be it something as mischievous as the Devious Lick or amusing parodies mocking the ‘Couch Guy’ video. Some of these trends have gotten dangerous though, and have put users in danger. That includes the newest one where people are apparently messing with cars and their lugnuts. The lugnuts, or locking wheel nuts, are used to keep a vehicle’s tires in place but they can be removed with a wrench and other tools. Though, this is usually reserved for repairs. However, as TikToker ‘kella.and.skyebot’ flagged, some users are apparently removing them when no one is around in the hopes of causing damage. According to the user, schools have noted that this is happening as an extension of the ‘Devious Lick’ trend that saw kids do everything from stealing school equipment to completely ruining bathrooms. Searching ‘Lugnut challenge’ or ‘lugnuts’ on TikTok will return a few videos showing the damage caused to some cars, but it’s not as widespread as the original ‘Devious Lick’ damage. The new trend wasn’t mentioned in the ‘full list’ of additional challenges that school pupils were apparently planning for the rest of the year, with October apparently being bookmarked as the month to ‘slap a staff member.’ Damaging a car is not only dangerous but also illegal if serious harm is caused, so it remains to be seen if this new trend will be tackled quickly.

  • TikTok left speechless after woman takes a “gamer-girl pig mud-bath” – Dexerto

TikTok left speechless after woman takes a “gamer-girl pig mud-bath” TikTok: real.karraA woman has left the internet baffled and in shock after taking a “Gamer-girl pig mud-bath” on her toilet floor and posting it to TikTok. A mud bath is a therapeutic experience and unique spa treatment that offers a range of benefits, claiming to detox and relax. These are usually enjoyed in a professional setting and involve soaking in a warm mixture of peat, water, and volcanic ash. The ash contains minerals such as sulfur, zinc, and magnesium, which are said to draw impurities out of the skin, the practice dating back to Ancient Greece. One TikToker, however, decided to share her own take on the practice — posting a video of her “Gamer-girl pig mud-bath” that sees the woman roll around her toilet floor. And the internet is not sure what to make of it. Going by Piss Millionaire online, the woman’s TikTok is a collection of bizarre videos, and with already 2.1 million views, her latest has certainly left an impact. The video shows her toilet floor covered in dirt as she pours a container of water over the top. Then, wearing a bodycon pink dress, pig ears, and some impressive (and terrifying) pig-inspired makeup, Piss Millionaire begins to roll in the mud. A collection of shots shows her tumbling back and forth in the small room until she is covered in mud. The video concludes with Piss Millionaire oinking at the camera before asking her boyfriend off-screen whether he thinks she is beautiful. “Yes, I do,” he replied. Piss Millionaire then asked, “Do you want some mud? It actually feels [kind of] nice” — an offer he decided not to accept. Viewers were baffled by the video, jumping to the comments to share the rollercoaster of emotions they experienced watching the mud bath. “Nothing I have ever searched or watched relates to this on my [for you page],” one traumatized viewer wrote. Another said, “It’s too [damn] early for this. My brain hurts now,” with a third stating, “I miss the person I was before this video.” However, there were those who saw the appeal in taking a gamer-girl pig mud-bath, one person asking Piss Millionaire how they could get into the “profession”. “Just stop caring about everything ever,” Piss Millionaire advised. • TikTok launches text posts as Elon Musk rebrands Twitter to X – Dexerto

TikTok launches text posts as Elon Musk rebrands Twitter to X Unsplash: Olivier BergeronTikTok has revealed the ability to make text posts on the platform just as Elon Musk has begun rebranding Twitter into X. Since Elon Musk purchased Twitter on October 27, 2022, many users on the site have attempted to find a social media platform that would replace it. We’ve seen Mastodon and Bluesky adopted quite a bit, and most recently Meta launched Threads as a microblogging addition to Instagram. Elon Musk has begun introducing the rebrand from Twitter to X, and now TikTok has entered the competition with new text-based posts. TikTok launches text posts to “express your creativity” In a blog post on July 24, 2023, TikTok revealed the new text post option. Available alongside video and picture uploads, text posts will give people the ability to share lyrics, recipes, and more. “With text posts, we’re expanding the boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok, giving the written creativity we’ve seen in comments, captions, and videos a dedicated space to shine,” they said in the blog post. TikTok also detailed features to try with the new text posts, including the ability to use tags and hashtags. On top of that, text posts can be enhanced with stickers, background colors, and sound. For creators, they’ve made sure to have the ability to draft text posts for future uploads. It’s unknown when this new feature will be available to users, as the platform will more than likely release it slowly across users. It’s not available on either of this writer’s accounts at the time of writing, at least. We’ll have to wait to see how well it’s adopted by TikTok users soon, which will be interesting as people are rebelling against Elon Musk’s Twitter rebrand.

  • TikTok launches new ‘Rethink’ comment rules to stop bullying and harassment – Dexerto

TikTok launches new ‘Rethink’ comment rules to stop bullying and harassment Unsplash.com – Hello I’m NikTikTok has become one of the internet’s most popular social media platforms, thanks in part to its massive wealth of content and viral videos — but it isn’t always the kindest, as a quick look in some comment sections reveals. The internet has never been an especially kind place. Anonymity can bring out the worst in people, causing users to comment things they would never say aloud to another human being in-person. With the onset of the current global health crisis, these mean comments have only risen in use, with studies showing that cyberbullying has increased a shocking 70% in quarantine. A look through social media comment sections seems to prove this phenomenon true; but no platform is quite as toxic as TikTok, with the comment sections of some of the platform’s most popular creators filled with remarks that would make the average person slap their hand over their mouth. In fact, quite a few of TikTok’s more prominent personalities have spoken out on this fact, with the likes of Sienna Mae begging viewers to put some thought into what they want to type out in the comments before hitting “send” — and it seems that TikTok itself is following suit. On March 10, TikTok announced it is rolling out a new tool to help curb harassment in the comments section, which the application has named “Rethink.” The Rethink tool builds upon TikTok’s already existing comment control options, which allow users to filter through certain keywords and spam. However, instead of acting as a toggle, this tool pops up whenever a user may have typed out an especially volatile message, with the prompt: “Would you like to reconsider posting this?” It warns the user that their comment may violate Community Guidelines, and gives them the option to post in spite of the warning or to go back and edit or delete their comment. “At TikTok, we continually work to maintain a supportive environment that enables our community to focus on what matters to them; being creative, finding community, and having fun,” TikTok’s Head of Product Policy, Julie de Bailliencourt, writes. “Our goal is to promote a positive environment where people support and lift each other up.”

  • TikTok launches new video paywall feature ‘Series’ – Dexerto

TikTok launches new video paywall feature ‘Series’ Unsplash: May GauthierTikTok has launched a new feature, ‘Series,’ which will allow creators to lock collections of videos behind a paywall, reportedly costing anywhere from 99 cents to $189.99 to unlock. Video platform TikTok is used by millions of people around the world, and there’s practically a constant stream of new content being uploaded to the app on a daily basis. In March, TikTok launched a new feature ‘Series,’ which will allow creators to put videos behind a paywall. Creators can post collections of premium content, with one Series including up to 80 videos, each up to 20 minutes long. This content will be behind a paywall, which users can then purchase for access. TikTok explained: “Creators can select how much their Series should cost that best reflects the value of their exclusive content, which can be purchased for access via direct in-video links or through a creator’s profile. Through Series, creators can build even stronger relationships with their viewers while also giving viewers another way to support creators.” Currently, Series is only available to select creators, and applications to join will open in the coming months. TikTok went on to explain that: “Series joins our growing range of monetization solutions as we continue to build new ways for creators to feel valued and rewarded as they inspire and engage our community.” So far, the only ways to earn on TikTok directly have been through the Creator Fund, which was launched in 2020 as a way to allow creators to make money through views on their videos, and through Live gifts. Viewers can give their favorite creators digital ‘gifts’ which can then be converted back into real money. It’s not yet clear how popular this feature will be among creators and their fans, but it’s set to be rolled out to more people in the coming months.

  • TikTok launches BeReal-style feature ‘TikTok Now’ – Dexerto

TikTok launches BeReal-style feature ‘TikTok Now’ Unsplash: Solen FeyissaTikTok is launching a new feature called ‘TikTok Now,’ which appears to be inspired by the wildly popular photo-sharing app ‘BeReal’ that has taken over social media in 2022. BeReal is a platform that sends a daily notification to all users at the same time, prompting them to take a picture of what they’re doing at that moment using both the front and back camera. The notification arrives at a different time each day. The app was initially released in 2020, but it saw a huge surge in popularity in 2022, with users sharing many of their funniest or most impressive BeReal moments to TikTok and going viral. Now, TikTok is releasing a feature that appears to be inspired by BeReal, in the form of TikTok Now. In a blog post on September 15, they wrote: “TikTok Now is the newest way to be entertained and connect with others on TikTok – a daily photo and video experience to share your most authentic moments with the people who matter the most. TikTok Now brings the authenticity of TikTok to a whole new creative experience that connects you with those closest to you. “Making possible deeper connection and entertainment in a fun format, TikTok Now invites you and your friends to capture what you’re doing in the moment using your device’s front and back camera. You’ll receive a daily prompt to capture a 10-second video or a static photo to easily share what you’re up to.” They revealed that they will be experimenting with TikTok Now in the coming weeks, explaining that in the US the feature can be accessed from the TikTok app, but in other regions, it may also be available as a new TikTok Now app. TikTok Now has received backlash from some users online who say TikTok is “copying” BeReal, but so far it’s not clear whether the feature will go on to be as successful as the original app.

TikTok launches LIVE subscriptions to compete with Twitch and YouTube Gaming Unsplash.com: Solen FeyissaTikTok is aiming to rival companies like Twitch and YouTube with its latest subscription model that helps its creators get more support from their fans. TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms, even overtaking ‘Google’ in web searches last year. While it’s often pegged as a short-form video sharing site known for spewing out viral content, it’s taking a turn and implementing a new feature that is quite similar to streaming service Twitch. Twitch users can follow their favorite broadcasters for free… but if they want to support these streamers monetarily, they can always subscribe for a fixed fee that will allow them special privileges. Now, TikTok is joining the ranks of other video-sharing platforms with its latest subscription model. Similar to Twitch and YouTube, TikTok is set to launch a new feature called ‘LIVE’ subscriptions, which will allow fans to subscribe to their favorite creators on a monthly basis in exchange for a certain amount of money. TikTok’s LIVE subscriptions beta will kick off on May 26, and is exclusive to a handful of creators on the app. These creators can be found on TikTok’s official LIVE Creator account, which also shares information regarding this new feature. That’s not all; some users have claimed that the revenue from this subscription service is similar to that of Twitch, which boasts a 30-50 % revenue cut with streamers. Additionally, TikTok has confirmed that creators must be 18 years of age and have over 1,000 followers to participate in their LIVE subscription feature. Click here if TikTok fails to load. This news comes hot on the heels of YouTube’s recently-unveiled, money-driven subscription tool for streamers called ‘gifted memberships,’ which allows users to give memberships to certain channels to friends — an element also similar to Twitch’s gifted subs.

  • TikTok kid goes viral calling out Warzone teammates homophobia & abuse – Dexerto

TikTok kid goes viral calling out Warzone teammates homophobia & abuse Activision/TikTokA TikTok of a 12-year old calling out homophobia during his match of Warzone has gone viral for all the right reasons. Children often get a bad wrap when it comes to being toxic while playing video games. Chat rooms and in-game lobbies can be a place where kids adopt bad habits. However, with the viral TikTok at hand, it’s easy to see that the kids are alright. Heartwarming Warzone TikTok TikTok user bummblebee__ posted two TikTok’s of their younger brother arguing against a homophobic teammate of his during a match of Warzone. In the first clip the boy says, “You seriously have a problem with people being gay. So, you’re homophobic? See, you just blindly admit to being homophobic. You realize I automatically don’t like you because that’s really f**ked up. You promise you guys aren’t joking? My sister is lesbian…” His defense of the LGBTQ+ community didn’t end there, though. He continued in the second clip where he said, “I know but she’s gay and you plainly said you don’t support gay people. Wait, so you DON’T support LGBTQ? You realize LGBTQ isn’t only gay… If you’re trans that doesn’t mean you’re still gay. So you’re saying if you’re trans you’re basically just still a guy. Maybe they don’t want to be a woman or a male, it’s their decision what’s the matter with that?” The stance this boy took against his homophobic teammate was quite admirable, and hopefully, he can be a role model for other kids playing Call of Duty online.

  • TikTok ‘Karen’ goes viral after berating Xfinity customer service – Dexerto

TikTok ‘Karen’ goes viral after berating Xfinity customer service TikTok and Canva and XfinityIn a viral TikTok, a ‘Karen’ verbally berated Xfinity customer service, seemingly turning into a raging beast spouting nearly incoherent insults to the worker on the phone. Customer service representatives deal with a myriad of rude customers on a daily basis. Unfortunately for one Xfinity worker, they had to deal with a raging Karen, who shouted a slur of insults targetting the worker. They recorded the conversation, and posted the video on TikTok where it has since gone viral with over four million views. The video shows the phone, which has been put into speaker mode. It records the middle of the caller’s rant, where she rages to such an extreme that the words become incoherent, making it nearly impossible to quote properly. But some sentences are understandable to a certain degree. She yelled out “stupid c**t,” then goes into a literal slur of incomprehensible words before going into one of the classic ‘Karen’ lines: “Get me to a supervisor NOW!” At this point, the woman was literally yelling. Despite the rude words and tone thrown her way, the worker remained calm and attempted to deal with the customer. “Ma’am. Ma’am. There isn’t any reason for me to…” the worker was interrupted by the customer going on a yelling spree once again. “Get me a supervisor, you little stupid c**t licker!” She followed up by saying something about foul language, then once again demanded a supervisor. The Karen devolved, almost as if turning into a literal child throwing a tantrum, and continued yelling the same word over and over again. “NOW! NOW! NOW! NOW!” “I’m going to put you on hold ma’am,” the customer representative replied calmly.

What is TikTok’s Kia Challenge? Users warned not to try USB hot-wiring trend Alissa Smart and dh_dingers on TiktokThe recent TikTok Kia Challenge is taking over the internet, sparking controversy and resulting in car theft. TikTok is attempting to mitigate the situation, which has already escalated to alarming degrees. The TikTok Kia Challenge is a viral video trend where people steal a Hyundai or Kia by utilizing a USB cable to jump start the car. And on TikTok, many users have hopped on the trend and are now attempting to steal themselves their own Kia — going as far as to upload their thefts on the internet. Be warned. Stealing cars, whether or not it is a viral TikTok challenge is considered a crime, and thereby punishable by law. TikTok has attempted to mitigate the situation, urging users to report Kia Challenge videos so they could promptly remove them. Where did the TikTok Kia challenge originate? TikTok user @robbierayyy began the viral trend, where he shared a video of starting his Kia using only a USB cable. Though the original video has been deleted by TikTok, the challenge has already snowballed rapidly, resulting in numerous cases of vandalism and grant theft. Others hopped on the trend, uploading their own versions of the challenge while sharing the technique. “I have to try this. Wish me luck tonight,” one TikTok user stated. People who perform the challenge have been referred to as the Kia Boyz, with numerous cases of theft reported all across the United States. This break in technique does not work for every Kia or Hyundai, a misconception created by the lack of proper context and information shown in a TikTok short. Many reports of vandalized Kia’s have been made — likely results of failed attempts to USB hot wire the cars. This is not the first dangerous TikTok challenge to gain notoriety. Some, like the the blackout challenge, can lead to death. These seem like “fun” and “easy” ways to get a moment of internet fame, but the repercussions are very real.

According to the TikToker, his group was directed to a roped-off area on the field. That same area was the location of Taylor’s retired no.21 logo that now graces FedEx Field, in honor of the former Washington safety who died from a gunshot wound after protecting his family in November 2007. Jackson was later seen filming a TikTok video on that logo. The dance sparked outrage and fans called the clip “disrespectful” to the late NFL player. The original post, which came from laurenzarras, showed her surprising her boyfriend Robbie at college. While the video is pretty wholesome, Robbie’s body language and the people who he was sat alongside have caused a bit of a stir on social media. • TikTok is obsessed with this Pink Zara dress: $60 dress sells out after going viral – Dexerto

TikTok is obsessed with this Pink Zara dress: $60 dress sells out after going viral TikTok: wooitsmelody, inchargeofoutfits / Zara / TikTokTikTok’s latest fashion craze revolves around a pink dress from Zara — but why is everyone so obsessed with it? Here’s what we know so far. TikTok is a hive for viral content of all sorts. Sparking popular dances, memes, and even must-try pasta recipes, TikTok is the internet’s one-stop shop for what’s hot right now. The platform’s current obsession is a fashion statement that’s become so viral that it’s selling out at Zara, a Spanish apparel retailer that’s partly responsible for this latest craze. Up until recently, consumers were flocking to the store’s website to purchase a $60 slinky pink evening gown — that is, until it sold out. Viral TikTok dress sells out on Zara The trend all started last month, when TikToker Marina Rough posted a video showing her unboxing the satin slip, dubbing it the ‘perfect pink dress.’ The strappy frock is the perfect dress for a night out or a classy cocktail party, chock-full of Y2K vibes and boasting a cut-out back. At the time of writing, Marina’s video has garnered over 1.4 million views and counting — and sparked a massive fashion trend, in the meantime. In fact, the hashtag for the dress — #ZaraPinkDress — already boasts over 2.1 million views on TikTok. Click here if TikTok fails to load. TikTokers all over the app are raving about the gown, with some comparing it to the Pink Soft Lounge Slip Dress from Skims. However, the sticking point for netizens seems to be the price. At just $60, the slip is a steal that’s giving us luxury for an affordable rate. Click here if TikTok fails to load. However, due to its popularity, the dress has completely sold out on Zara’s website in certain sizes. In the United States, it appears that it’s still available for purchase in extra small, large, and extra large sizes. The Zara gown follows the internet’s past obsession with Lirika Matoshi’s Strawberry Midi Dress, which continues to star in videos all over social media (and has plenty of affordable knock-offs, as well). It looks like this is an especially tumultuous time for TikTok, as the platform is also currently beset by an intense debate about whether or not there are more doors than wheels in the world.

  • TikTok is finally doing Twitch-like subscriptions, but there’s a catch – Dexerto

TikTok is finally doing Twitch-like subscriptions, but there’s a catch Unsplash/TikTok/TwitchTikTok is giving its creators even more opportunities to make money from their content as it’s been revealed that they’re testing paid subscriptions similar to Twitch. Over the last two years, TikTok has quickly cemented itself as an avenue to help build a brand-new crop of internet stars that have taken over different social media platforms. While some of the video-sharing app’s biggest names have benefited through outside opportunities, they have also been chances for them to make money directly on TikTok. On top of the massive creator fund, TikTok recently rolled out a direct donations option for profiles – building on the live stream gifts that they’d implemented previously. Now, in another big step, they’re working on Twitch-like subscriptions for profiles. TikTok testing channel subs As reported by TechCrunch and The Information, TikTok has started supporting the paid subs option with a small testing pool of accounts that you probably won’t be able to find on your For You Page. Currently, it is unclear just how the option would work and whether or not creators that use the option would put all of their content behind the subscription paywall. Using the Twitch example, subscribers get benefits like no adverts and subscriber-only chats, but that wouldn’t really work on TikTok. Twitch streamers can also do subscriber-only streams, which could be one avenue for TikTok to go down – where they’d make some content exclusive to the paywall. As per the reports, details on when the test might be expanded to users are unclear. Previous tests, like the direct donations, have had criteria that a channel – follow count and video likes, for example – has to match before they’re given access. That could very well, again, be the case for subscriptions, but for now, it is a case of wait and see what happens.

  • TikTok is creating a “for you” feed without personalized algorithm – Dexerto

TikTok is creating a “for you” feed without personalized algorithm Flickr: Ivan RadicDue to new rules within the EU, TikTok has been forced to create and offer a new type of FYP for minors, where content will be shown in chronological order. TikTok users in Europe will be able to switch off the personalized algorithm behind its For You and Live feeds as the company makes changes to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA). According to TikTok, disabling this function will show users “popular videos from both the places where they live and around the world” instead of content based on their personal interests. TikTok’s search feature will also show content that’s popular in the user’s region, and videos under the “Following” and “Friends” feeds will be displayed in chronological order when a non-personalized view is selected. These changes relate to DSA rules that require very large online platforms to allow their users to opt out of receiving personalized content — which typically relies on tracking and profiling user activity — when viewing content recommendations European users between the ages of 13 and 17 automatically won’t be targeted with personalized ads based on their online activities, rather than having to opt out with a toggle. When will the new FYP settings be available? TikTok hasn’t provided a release date for any of these changes, but it says that it’s aiming to meet the required obligations by the DSA’s deadline of August 28th. According to TikTok, the new FYPs will only be available to European users. It is not known if it will be launched in other parts of the world. TikTok ‘invisible car’ trick: Secret behind viral ‘pzoom’ trick revealed TikTok: lightskinyogiTikTok user lightskinyogi has had viewers confused for weeks over how he does his seamless ‘invisible car’ trick — but people think they’ve figured out how he actually does it. Once something starts gaining popularity on TikTok, it doesn’t take long to spread to For You Pages across the world, with viral videos often seen by millions of people. It’s not clear exactly where the ‘pzoom’ trend started, but after lightskinyogi uploaded a video of him doing the strange trick in June, it quickly had people flocking to the comment section to find out how he was doing it. The trick sees the participant sit on the floor as if they were in a car, and after they turn the ignition, they somehow managed to glide away across the floor as if they were actually being powered by something. Read More: How to use Vintage Suit filter on TikTok – Initially, many thought that he was being pulled by someone or something, but that didn’t seem to be the most reasonable explanation for the challenge. More and more people then started asking lightskinyogi to fulfill certain requests while doing the trend, in order to narrow down the secret behind it. Some asked him to do it with the TV on, pour a glass of water first, put a mirror behind him, do it without socks on, and much more, and he fulfilled each of these requests. However, none of them seemed to help in identifying how it all works. How to do the ‘invisible car’ trick After watching all of his videos, many users have been saying that he’s actually sliding into frame, standing up, and then putting the video in reverse. While many of the requests he fulfilled seem to disprove that, eagle-eyed viewers have noticed he’s been using some clever editing to get around them. Read More: Khaby Lame overtakes Addison Rae on TikTok – To try out the trick for yourself, you simply have to slide into frame, do the ignition movement, and then stand up, before putting the video in reverse. However, as simple as the process is, it’s a lot harder to make it look completely seamless like lightskinyogi.

Short-form video app TikTok has been hugely popular for several years now, and new users are joining on a near-constant basis, with a huge portion of the platform’s userbase comprised of teenagers. Countless viral trends have started on TikTok, and although plenty of them have been harmless, there are a number of them that have caused great a great deal of controversy, such as the Devious Lick challenge that saw students stealing increasingly bizarre items from schools. A group of state attorneys from at least eight states in the US have now launched an investigation into the app to see whether it is contributing to physical and mental health harms for young people. Back on February 8, TikTok revealed new community guidelines, explaining that they are, “strengthening our policies to promote safety, security, and well-being on TikTok.” They revealed plans to crack down on dangerous trends and hateful ideologies, and said: “While we already remove content that promotes eating disorders, we’ll start to also remove the promotion of disordered eating.”

JeyJey Gardi, groomed a 15-year-old boy, claiming that Jorge had a large part in manipulating the victim as well as Benji. The initial allegations against 19-year-old Benji and 18-year-old Jorge emerged in August when a 15-year-old boy recounted his experiences with the two TikTokers via an anonymous Twitter account. The individual alleged that he had been sent explicit FaceTime screenshots of Benji by Jorge. He said, “they took advantage of my friendship, and exploited and coerced me, a minor, into doing what they wanted for sexual pleasure.” They also shared screenshots of call logs and messages supposedly sent by the pair as evidence. https://twitter.com/defnoodles/status/1297187483910672389 After the accusations gained traction on Twitter, Benji released his initial response on August 23. He said his apology had taken longer than expected due to a suicide attempt, though stressed that “it’s not the first time” and was not a direct result of the allegations. He explained that the explicit FaceTime was true, but that he “told Jorge it was wrong and was very uncomfortable with it.” In addition, he revealed that he “doesn’t even know the full story” and that “Jorge knows everything else,” but he doesn’t have access to that information as Jorge took off to go back to his own home. https://twitter.com/BenjiKrol/status/1297606074565099521 Jorge’s response to the allegation followed about a week later, on August 30, and stressed firstly that “I am not the victim,” calling his actions “very wrong” and also claiming he “manipulated” Benji alongside the victim. “I did sexually talk to the affected person and involved Benji without his permission as well as pressured him into it. I’m sorry to both,” he said. https://twitter.com/jeyjeygardi/status/1300150694494830592 Nearly a month later, on September 25, Benji uploaded a 30-minute video titled “clearing things up” in which he went into detail about his side of the story. Benji claimed that the alleged victim lied about his age, claiming he was actually 16 (the legal age of consent in Spain) instead of 15. Benji said he’s not “trying to shift the blame” but instead clarifying the information at the time. He said that on multiple occasions Jorge had sent pictures of Benji to multiple other people without his consent, and included screenshots of Jorge supposedly bragging about it on Twitter, writing “that awkward moment when you tell your bf you have sent his nudes to a friend.” Revealing that he had come into contact with some of the victim’s friends, Benji shared screenshots of a conversation between them and the victim that, if genuine screenshots, show the victim saying things like “Benji keeps ignoring me, should I just expose him?” At the time of writing neither of the other parties involved have commented further. Benji Krol is TikToker with 11 million followers, with former partner Jorge Garay at a little over 4 million.

Cynthia Parker is a fairly popular TikToker who boasts over 4.8 million followers on the viral video app. She has also dated other major influencers, including Chase Hudson (former boyfriend of Charli D’Amelio) and Quinton Griggs. Nessa shared the pic to social media, which she captioned: “My shawty bae forever and only u,” which some fans think is a pointed callout toward Cynthia. This wouldn’t be the first time an influencer has been suddenly and mysteriously made a social media pariah; earlier this year, TikTok star Tayler Holder was unfollowed by a slew of his fellow creators after allegations of sexual assault surfaced against him. For now, it’s still unclear why Cynthia has been unfollowed — but we’ll keep you posted right here on Dexerto.

Over the last few years, the US government has continuously brought up the idea of banning TikTok in the country due to security concerns. Many believe that Chinese-owned Bytedance, the parent company of TikTok, uses the popular short-form video app to spy on users across the United States. Shortly after the Foreign Affairs Committee passed legislation to ban the app on March 1, 2023, TikTok hit back at the US government in a message on Twitter. • TikTok hit with class-action lawsuit over child protection that could cost billions – Dexerto

TikTok hit with class-action lawsuit over child protection that could cost billions PixabayTikTok has been hit with a class-action lawsuit that, if successful, could cost the company billions. The former Children’s Commissioner for England, Anne Longfield, has brought a legal claim against TikTok for allegedly illegally processing the personal information of millions of children. The case is part of a class-action lawsuit. The lawsuit claims that TikTok and its parent company ByteDance are “deliberately violating UK and EU children’s data protection law.” Specifically, they claim TikTok does not have consent to take and process children’s data, and that it collects that data without sufficient warning. TikTok was fined $5.7 million in February 2019 by the US Federal Trade Commission for the way the app it bought, Musical.ly, handled children’s data. South Korea’s media watchdog fined TikTok £123,000 for collecting the data of 6,000 children under the age of 14 in July 2020. Following its US fine, TikTok introduced a feature to verify the age of its child users worldwide. In a press release announcing the lawsuit, Longfield and the law firm taking on the case incorrectly claimed the age verification features are only available in the United States. TikTok asked to delete child user data Longfield, who is supporting the claim by law firm Scott + Scott, wants TikTok to delete its UK and European child users’ information, and to pay them compensation. “TikTok is a data collection service that is thinly-veiled as a social network,” says Longfield. “It has deliberately and successfully deceived parents, whose best intentions are to protect their children and children themselves.” Longfield and Scott + Scott allege that children’s telephone numbers, videos, pictures, and their location, along with biometric data, are collected by TikTok. The suit claims that every child user that has used TikTok since 25 May 2018 has had their data scooped up in this way. “The information collected by TikTok represents a severe breach of UK and EU data protection law,” says Tom Southwell, partner at Scott + Scott. “Children do not understand how exposed they are when they use the app, and parents have been deliberately left in the dark by TikTok. “TikTok and ByteDance’s advertising revenue is built on the personal information of its users, including children,” adds Southwell. “Profiting from this information without fulfilling its legal obligations, and its moral duty to protect children online, is unacceptable.” ByteDance accused of ‘shadowy practices’ Internal data uncovered by the New York Times indicates that as of spring 2020, 43% of TikTok’s users were classified as being 14 or under. One in three German users at the time were also believed to be under 14, and 45% of French users. Longfield and Southwell both claim that TikTok’s company structure, which has a European headquarters in London which reports into a Cayman Islands-located parent company, is “deliberately opaque”. “Parents and children have a right to know that private information, including phone numbers, physical location, and videos of their children are being illegally collected,” says Longfield. “TikTok appears set on making it as difficult as possible for millions of mothers and fathers to know who is benefiting from this information. “We want to put a stop to TikTok’s shadowy data collection practices, and demand that they delete all private information that has been illegally processed when children use the app.” The law firm and Longfield are inviting the parents of 3.5 million UK children who believe they may have been affected to sign up to the suit. TikTok: privacy & safety ‘priorities’ Some child safety experts are nonplussed by the action. “Unless they have new evidence that has eluded the experts, it feels like another attempt at targeting the new kid in the class,” says Eva Fog Noer, a Danish child safety expert. A TikTok spokesperson said: “Privacy and safety are top priorities for TikTok and we have robust policies, processes and technologies in place to help protect all users, and our teenage users in particular. We believe the claims lack merit and intend to vigorously defend the action.”

TikTok helps woman spot hidden camera in dance studio bathroom TikTok/ Pixabay: ArtisticOperationsA woman spotted a secret camera recording her while she was changing her clothes, all thanks to a heads up from TikTok. TikTok has quickly become one of the most popular video apps on Earth. The platform has become well known for its viral dances, hilarious repeating audio clips, and so much more. One thing TikTok hasn’t specifically grown a reputation for is spreading awareness for women’s safety. However, a new news story may show users that the app is much more than dancing and laughing, as it may also be a place to spread very vital information to keep its users safe. TikTok helps women discover spy camera while changing On August 16, an unidentified woman in Pennsylvania attended a private dance lesson at her instructor’s home studio. The instructor, Francis Gerarn Laurenzi, gave her clothes to try on before the session. While changing in the bathroom, she noticed a cell phone charger block plugged into an electrical outlet. She has seen TikTok videos warning women about fake phone chargers that are actually secretly cameras, and upon inspection, this was one of the very same cameras. She removed the data card from the fake charger and handed it over to the Norristown Police. The dance instructor was then arrested after the authorities found over 140 videos on the card spanning over the last two years of snooping. Thanks to TikTok, which shows millions of search results for “hidden camera in charger” the woman was able to identify the charger and ensure her safety by removing the data card and hand it over to the police. While TikTok might not always be the best place for information, sometimes what you do come across can be helpful in urgent situations.

The POV video she posted of the incident shows her moving slowly past bisons. “I don’t want to deal with them,” she said as she edged by the gigantic grazers, which appear to be within about 20 feet of the trail. “I just want to go by, come on, keep going…I didn’t want to go through the bushes again.” Just when it seemed like Rebecca was going to pass them without incident, one of the bisons turned its head, and charged at the petrified hiker. “Oh sh*t,” the hiker yelled, as she turned to flee the behemoth. “Oh, oh my God! Oh my God, oh God,” she screamed as she took off running, before the camera tumbled into a bush. In a follow-up clip, she revealed that the bison “rammed my back, gored me and threw me into a mesquite bush.” TikTok viewers blame hiker after bison attack Many TikTok users blamed Rebecca for getting gored, as she was too close to the large bovines. “OMG should have kept more distance than that, your fault,” one user wrote. “The Darwin Awards in full effect I see play stupid games win stupid prizes,” another commented. “You could have avoided that by giving them space. Well thanks for the lesson!” a third added. Others thought she should’ve waited for the bison to reach the other side of the road before barging on ahead. “Yeah, you should have waited longer. Everyone knows they are aggressive and territorial. You got lucky,” one user shared. “Hope ur okay! Should of just waited another minute or two,” another said, to which Clark replied, “I’m definitely working on my patience!” The hiker also revealed she managed to contact friends and family after getting attacked, and waited “50 minutes until help arrived,” whereupon she was flown to the hospital. She said she was OK, aside from a “hole in my back” and “lots of stickers and thorns.”

Informing people on various ways to stay safe has become a notable trend, as TikTokers share tips on seeking help if they’re suffering mentally, physically, and emotionally. The Canadian Women’s Foundation has an account on the app. They contributed to this critical conversation by sharing tips on requesting help when facing domestic violence silently. The foundation created the signal for help campaign, which allows someone in danger or facing abuse to silently alert passersby of their situation and need of assistance by using a hand sign. Demonstrating the crucial hand signal, the woman in the video pretended to be asking someone for a recipe so that she didn’t alert her abuser. Showing her palm to the camera with her thumb tucked, she then clasped her thumb with four fingers as the fingers rested atop the thumb. The woman in the video immediately recognized the signal and understood that she needed help. If you see someone in public who makes the TikTok hand signal, the foundation asks that you “check-in with the person safely to find out what they need and want you to do.” Doubling down on the meaning of the hand signal, CWF also wants people to understand that calling law enforcement as soon as possible isn’t recommended and instead should reach out to the person as safe as possible.

  • TikTok Halloween Food: 5 viral recipes the internet is obsessed with – Dexerto

TikTok Halloween Food: 5 viral recipes the internet is obsessed with TikTok: nikkalcaraz / chefgenevieve / aldentedivaIt’s the spookiest time of year yet again, and TikTok hasn’t disappointed when it comes to sharing weird and wonderful Halloween-themed recipes. Here are the ones we think you should try out this year. In the past couple of years, TikTok has become a central hub for people to share anything from storytimes to lifehacks in the form of short videos, and with such a huge userbase, hundreds of videos go viral every single day. Naturally, as it gets closer to October 31, people have been getting into the Halloween spirit by sharing their costume plans and classic monster-themed songs in their content. One thing that the TikTok community loves is food and drink, and again this year they’ve combined that passion with the spirit of Halloween to create some viral seasonal recipes. Here are some of our favorites. Spooky Cookies If you’ve been looking for a way to create some spooky cookies with what you already have in the kitchen, look no further than this TikTok. No special Halloween-specific cutters are required, just use a standard gingerbread man-style cutter, and then get creative. Or like this user, you could even cut out a shape on paper and use it to trace onto the dough with a knife. Click here if TikTok doesn’t load Cut off limbs, or even heads, then use red icing to create the illusion of blood, or black to draw some scary facial expressions. Brain Cake If you feel like taking on a bigger project, Chef Genevieve LaMonaca’s gory-looking ‘brain cake’ recipe could be a great option. Read More: Most liked TikToks: Top 20 viral videos – In her video, Genevieve uses pink fondant icing to create the appearance of a brain over a dome-shaped cake, and to give it that slightly realistic edge, she smothers the whole thing in seedless raspberry jam to make it look a little bloody. Although there are a few more steps involved in this recipe, the results look totally worth it. Dirt Pudding Bar If you’re hosting a Halloween party this year and want something to share with a large group of people, this dirt pudding bar recipe would work amazingly. Click here if TikTok doesn’t load By keeping the basic ingredients and a selection of various Halloween candy toppings in different cups, your guests will be able to choose exactly what they want to have on their pudding. Alternatively, you could pre-make them, as the simple process won’t take you long. Cinnamon Roll Intestine If you’re wanting to keep that same gory look as the brain cake mentioned above, but don’t quite want to go through all that effort, the cinnamon roll intestines are a great alternative. Just as TikTok user aldentediva demonstrates, simply unroll your cinnamon rolls and lay them out on a baking tray to make them look like ‘entrails,’ and then mix some icing with red food coloring before applying it to the rolls after baking them. Spooky Ramen If you’re not feeling like having any sweet treats but still want to get into the spooky spirit, you could customize your regular bowl of ramen with some extra additions to make it fit for Halloween. Click here if TikTok doesn’t load Just like nikkalcaraz, you could use red food dye to make an egg look like an eyeball, carve your mushrooms into tiny skulls, and dye your noodles black. The opportunities are endless with this recipe, and although it could end up being a little time-consuming, the final outcome is worth it. With the big day right around the corner, enjoy the run-up by trying some of these recipes—and there’s plenty more to discover on TikTok.

TikTok’s viral Gorilla Glue Girl reveals hair is falling out after dye disaster TikTok: im_d_olladyTessica Brown, who went viral on TikTok after gluing her hair down with Gorilla Glue adhesive spray, has revealed that her hair is now falling out after she attempted to dye her hair. The internet was shocked back in February of 2021, when TikTok user Tessica Brown revealed that after running out of her usual Got2B glued hairspray, she opted to use Gorilla Glue spray adhesive instead to secure her hair. After the video blew up on the app in a big way, Brown was eventually able to go to a plastic surgeon to remove the glue from her hair, seemingly ending the hair saga there. Click here if TikTok doesn’t load But in December, nearly ten months after the original incident, she has now revealed that her hair is falling out after attempting to dye it at home. Brown said in her new video that she thought her hair was “strong enough to take chemicals” after noticing a few gray hairs, but quickly realized that wasn’t the case. As she was in the shower rinsing out the dye, her hair began to fall out in large quantities. The TikToker even showed viewers how easily the clumps were falling from her scalp. Click here if TikTok doesn’t load Tessica has yet to update fans on what her next plan of action is at the time of writing, but the comments don’t seem to be particularly sympathetic this time around. “They ain’t sending you no more money BYE,” one comment with over 70,000 likes reads, another saying, “Ma’am at this point, please leave your hair alone.” This isn’t the first time the viral creator has made her way back onto people’s radars recently. In November, she released a song titled ‘Ma Hair’ in which she tells the story of that infamous Gorilla Glue incident that made her go viral in the first place.

  • TikTok Grammy in 2022? Viral Twitter interaction sparks rumors – Dexerto

TikTok Grammy in 2022? Viral Twitter interaction sparks rumors YouTube: Recording Academy / GRAMMYsTikTok became a surprising topic of conversation amidst the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards after Megan Thee Stallion took home Best New Artist — but some fans think the platform could get a category of its own. It seems that ever since Soulja Boy’s Crank Dat hit the net, people have gone crazy over catchy songs with equally catchy dances to go along with them. Of course, this phenomenon has been around far longer than 2007, but the internet — and subsequently, platforms like TikTok — have made such dances even more popular than usual. It’s no secret that some of TikTok’s best content is viral dance videos. Everything from the ‘Savage’ dance to Doja Cat’s ‘Say So’ have sparked full-on movements on the app, which became a hot topic of discussion after rapper Megan Thee Stallion won the Grammy for Best New Artist on March 14. Some critics weren’t too happy about this development, with many attributing Megan’s success to TikTok, claiming that her track ‘Savage’ blew up largely because of its trendy nature on the platform. Still others argued that she won the award in her own right — but it seems the topic became such a popular debate that the Grammys themselves may have weighed in on the conversation. In a March 16 Tweet, the official TikTok account sent out a joking request toward the Grammys, writing, “Aye, @RecordingAcad, let’s duet on an award for next year.” While this post was very much likely just a light-hearted joke, users across the net are wondering if the app might get its very own award in the future, as the Grammys Twitter account liked the tweet. Thus far, it seems like reactions to the possibility are quite mixed; some are not feeling the potential category whatsoever, while others think that a “dancing” category might be warranted. https://twitter.com/dezzmaraj_/status/1371880127932563458?s=20 This would be far from the first time TikTok has been involved in Grammy rumors; ahead of the 63rd Grammy Awards, many fans speculated that Dixie D’Amelio would be performing at the event, although she shut down these theories multiple times. What are your thoughts on a TikTok Grammy category? Do you think the platform deserves its own award or not?

  • TikTok goes crazy over new ‘couch guy’ in “cursed” Mike birthday video – Dexerto

TikTok goes crazy over new ‘couch guy’ in “cursed” Mike birthday video Pexels / TikTokWake up babe, new TikTok couch guy just dropped. After weeks dissecting an awkward relationship, the social media platform has honed in on a viral “Mike” birthday video with similarly uncomfortable body language. If you don’t know the TikTok ‘couch guy’ situation, then your algorithm must be pretty unique (or you must not use the app). But basically, a girl posted a video surprising her boyfriend and, millions of views later, everyone was convinced there was foul play at hand. Couch guy, as he’s (not-so-lovably) called, didn’t seem too excited to see his girlfriend on a surprise visit. After questions about the girls he was sitting with and his lack of delight, he responded to backlash and so has the girlfriend in question. But the news cycle continues and another, oddly similar situation has appeared. A user named ‘sydniarnett’ shared a video surprising her boyfriend, Michael, with a “Mike” party. And his lack of enthusiasm has thousands convinced that we’re witnessing another ‘couch guy.’ TikTok’s surprise “Mike” birthday guy As you can see in the video, Sydni came into this with high hopes: “I threw my boyfriend, Michael, a “Mike” themed surprise 30th.” And, on the flip side, Michael comes into said party with… low energy. Set to Ellie Goulding’s “Still Falling for You” (just like the couch guy video), a romantic scene seems betrayed by Michael’s energy. He walks in, hands in pocket, drinking casually, and gives an excited Syndi a half hug with a nonchalant smile. TikTok, now known for random bouts of behavioral psychology, was immediately concerned. Is “Mike” the new ‘couch guy’? In the replies, you see a lot of comments drawing the parallel to couch guy. A bunch call him “new couch guy” and someone even said they’re “convinced this song is cursed.” Based on the energy in the video, another dove into Michael’s mindset: “I was gonna break up with her this week and now I can’t.” But, much like the ‘couch guy’ situation, Sydni has downplayed the concerns. She even went ahead and shared a video of their PDA (public displays of attention). This should support the replies who think Michael was simply nervous, but who knows. The one thing we do know is that if you post about your relationship on TikTok, prepare for some scrutiny.

TikToker Freya Fox has gone viral after re-enacting the iconic slap moment in WWE’s newest game WWE 2K22. WWE 2K22 is the long-awaited release in WWE’s arsenal of video games. The game, which took two years to release due to Covid-19, skipped its 2021 version prompting fans to expect a stellar release for the latest drop. Its famed mode, Create a Superstar, formerly known as “Create a Wrestler” or CAW as most fans call it, has over delivered this year with hyper-realistic renderings of face and body customizations. This capability is what led to endless possibilities in recreating other wrestlers, and in this case celebrities. TikToker Freya Fox, an avid wrestling fan and streamer, found an entire Oscar’s set of created superstars including Smith, Rock, and the Oscar’s 2022 stage as a custom wrestling arena. TikToker goes viral for recreating the viral Will Smith slap in WWE 2k22 In a video uploaded to TikTok by Fox on March 31, Fox decided to download and recreate the viral slap to see who would win in a wrestling match, which might not be too far-fetched from reality. The match was a near-perfect recreation of the viral moment when Smith slapped Rock for making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith. The TikToker customized Smith’s actions to include tons of slapping and strikes to try and recreate what actually transpired. The match ultimately ends with Chris Rock being slammed through a table by Smith, in which Fox exclaims “This is what I should’ve done to you last night.” WWE Superstar Sami Zayn took to Twitter and told Chris Rock to call him, potentially alluding to a future appearance in WWE. .@chrisrock call me, I know how it is. pic.twitter.com/44rFLkodFF — Sami Zayn (@SamiZayn) March 28, 2022 Fans are now responding to the viral TikTok with mixed emotions — some praising the production quality of Fox’s re-enactment, while others just reliving the notorious moment. • TikTok follows Twitch with deepfake ban in new guidelines update – Dexerto

TikTok follows Twitch with deepfake ban in new guidelines update Unsplash: Solen FeyissaTikTok is following in the footsteps of Twitch with a new update to its community guidelines that ban deepfakes and other uses of AI-generated “synthetic media.” Over the last few months, AI-generated content has taken over the internet in various ways, whether it be Dall-E, ChatGPT, or other various apps. Content creators have used AI to create synthetic media, also known as deepfakes across their platforms, making fake videos of various influencers and other random people on the internet. Twitch began banning deepfakes on the site two weeks ago, and now TikTok has followed their lead for the short-form video site. TikTok issues ban on deepfake content in new update In a blog post on TikTok’s website, Global Head of Product Policy Julie de Bailliencourt revealed the new updates to their community guidelines, which will take effect on April 21, 2023. A major part of the guidelines includes updates to how they handle deepfake content on the platform, including making sure it’s labeled in a way that makes it clear the content is produced by an AI. “Synthetic media or manipulated that shows realistic scenes must be clearly disclosed. This can be done through the use of a sticker or caption, such as ‘synthetic’, ‘fake’, ‘not real’, or ‘altered’,” it reads. The new rule update also allows TikTok to limit what type of AI content is uploaded to the platform, as they’ve issued bans on synthetic media that “contains the likeness of any real private figure.” On top of that, AI content that uses the likeness of public figures as an endorsement for a product will be banned from the site as well. Back in February, a deepfake video of Joe Rogan endorsing a product that he had never mentioned before went viral on the platform, giving viewers a good example of potentially misleading content on the internet. We’ll have to wait to see if other platforms begin to introduce deepfake rules into their guidelines. In the meantime, head over to our entertainment section for more news.

But it’s important that viewers be discerning, because for every well-meaning finance influencer offering advice, there are some in the space proposing absolutely bonkers plans to get rich… and going viral for it. TikTok influencer’s millionaire strategy is immediately mocked TikToker and entrepreneur Noah Kagan regularly features others from the world of finance on his show, asking them to pass on their methods to help working people. In a recent interview, he asked his guest what their advice would be to someone who’s life dream was to become a millionaire. His answer was shocking. “Anyone can really become a millionaire… all you gotta do is get a dollar from a million people out of like 8 billion. If you just walk around every single day asking for a dollar, you can get $1,000,000 pretty easily.” It’s not clear whether the guest was actually advocating that people go around panhandling for a dollar from a million people, or if he was just explaining that you can get to a million dollars with a low-cost product. But people are already flaming this out-of-touch advice. “Lmfao this guy is an absolute moron,” one commented on the video. Another checked out the math to see how long it might actually take to a million dollars using this method. “1 dollar every 5 mins for 8h a day is actually 17 years,” they wrote. Others pointed out that this method ignores the fact that people also have to spend money on rent, food, and other expenses, so it would take significantly longer when accounting for all those debits. But one commenter underscored how ridiculous the advice was by simply asking, “So why aren’t all homeless people millionaires if they beg for money all day?” Whether it was meant to be hyperbole or actual (bad) advice, it’s probably best to not quit your day job to beg for money. It’ll be a long, painful while before you’re finally a millionaire.

While some appear to be nothing more than lucrative scams, others have seen owners generating wild profits. Regardless of your stance, NFTs seem to be here to stay. More major companies are jumping on the bandwagon every day; and even some of the internet’s biggest personalities too. However, NFTs have entered new territory on October 11: Breaching the realm of TikTok. The social platform has established its first ‘TikTok Top Moments’ collection. While some quickly backed out of the contentious promotion, the bidding wars went ahead nonetheless, with the first-ever TikTok NFT now up for sale on Zora. The first of its kind TikTok NFT was Curtis Roach’s ‘Bored in the House.’ The 15-second clip was among the first pandemic-era TikToks to go viral as millions of viewed poured in, and countless remixes followed through. The original clip itself currently sits at just under 50 million views, and it can all be yours for a certain price. TikTok’s first NFT is currently up for a seven-day auction with users on Zora bidding in Ethereum. While it’s early days yet, bids have already skyrocketed with the asking price already in the five-figure range at the time of writing. • TikTok finally rolling out feature to skip through video – Dexerto

TikTok finally rolling out feature to skip through video TikTokTikTok appears to be testing and rolling out one of the most requested features on the app, giving users the ability to scrub through videos rather than having to rewatch them. Throughout 2020, TikTok became by far the most popular app in the world. The ability to create short-form videos was a fun throwback to Vine but offered more depth and options than its predecessor. We all know how easy it is to fall into the trap of watching countless TikTok videos, scrolling through when we’ve got a spare moment and that moment seemingly never-ending. One thing that is incredibly frustrating, though, is when you’re watching out for a certain part of the video, and you have to sit there and wait for the moment to roll around again. Whether it’s a funny moment you want to show someone, a part of a story you missed, or you simply zoned out and stopped paying attention, it can be a severe nuisance sitting there for up to three minutes waiting for it to come up again. That could be an issue of the past, though, as some TikTok users are reporting the ability to scrub through videos and skip to a certain part, something users have been requesting for months. As shown in the screenshot below, Kim McNichol noticed some (note: not all) videos on her ‘For You Page’ had the feature, allowing her to skip through a video to find the specific timestamp she wants. https://twitter.com/KimMcnichol/status/1409734434685800448 Some responses suggested that this feature started being tested at the start of June 2021 and, in some territories, even further back. While it isn’t something that every user has yet, the feature is definitely popping up more and more, and before long the struggle of waiting for a certain hilarious point in your TikTok video will be, thankfully, a long-gone memory.

  • TikTok Feta Pasta trend: 4 tasty recipes that TikTokers are loving – Dexerto

TikTok Feta Pasta trend: 4 tasty recipes that TikTokers are loving TikTok: feelgoodfoodie/thehungerdiariesTikTok’s Baked Feta Pasta recipe has been recreated by foodies worldwide. The dish has inspired a variety of similar meals, including feta pie and even chocolate pasta. But, which recipes look the tastiest? The internet went wild back in February as TikTok user @feelgoodfoodie replicated the Finnish dish. The recipe only contains five ingredients; cherry tomatoes, seasoning, olive oil, cooked pasta and a block of feta cheese. The simple (yet tasty) meal has amassed over a billion views. As well as simply recreating the dish, TikTok chefs have also experimented with its ingredients. From changing the pasta type to chucking in a different variety of cheese, this hack is perfect for all one-pot recipes. Will any of these recipes take off like TikTok’s Baked Feta Pasta? Baked Mac and Cheese If your tastes are more traditional, you’ll love TikTok’s Baked Mac and Cheese recipe. For this one, you don’t even need to boil the macaroni first. Here’s the full recipe: Start by adding a block of (any) cheese to the middle of a baking dish – Surround your cheese with macaroni pasta – Add two cups of milk to thoroughly drench your pasta. An extra two cups of heavy cream is optional – Add some grated cheese to the top of your dish and season to taste – Bake in the oven for 30 minutes – Baked Cream Cheese Pasta According to TikTok user Lauren Bower (@cooklikeamother), “this is the texture that the feta cheese pasta trend should actually be.” This “creamy and delicious” recipe is apparently the perfect antidote to “that oily, separated version.” This is how to do it: Add a pint of cherry tomatoes to a baking dish – Season with four garlic cloves, salt, pepper and about a teaspoon of olive oil – Place a block of cream cheese in the middle, as well as a wheel of garlic boursin – Drizzle half a cup of heavy cream over your ingredients – Bake covered for 30 minutes, then uncovered for 15 – Mix well, before adding your pasta – Chocolate Cheesecake Pasta …You heard that right. This recipe (which has 2.1 million likes, by the way) makes for a perfect, decadent dessert. Here’s how to recreate it: Place a pack of strawberries into a baking dish – Sprinkle “liberally” with icing sugar, before adding a drop of vanilla extract – Add a block of cream cheese to the center, before sprinkling with sugar again – Bake for 45 minutes – Add semi-sweet chocolate to the dish. Mix well – Combine with cooked chocolate pasta (its a thing!) and add a splash of starch water – Feta Pasta Spanakopita This viral recipe is a variation on the traditional Greek dish. Placing filo pastry on top of cheesy pasta, it’s an utter carb fest! Here’s a rundown of the recipe: Add two blocks of feta to a casserole dish – Pour in a pack of uncooked macaroni pasta – Drown the pasta in four cups of half-and-half – Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and drizzle over some olive oil – Bake for 30 minutes, then take out and mix well – Add uncooked spinach to the hot dish before placing some cooked filo pastry on top. – So there you have it, each viral variation of the TikTok Feta Pasta recipe, broken down. Serve up, and enjoy!

  • TikTok files lawsuit against US Government amid “political” ban – Dexerto

TikTok files lawsuit against US Government amid “political” ban Pixabay: nikugaWith the end of TikTok in the US seemingly nigh, the owners of the app have hit back against the US presidents ban by filing a legal complaint, according to a new report. As previously reported last month, it was announced that the US president had signed an Executive Order to prohibit Bytedance – the owners of Tiktok – from doing business in the country. The Executive Order also applies to Chinese messaging app WeChat. The controversial ban is said to be due to national security concerns, with the president raising the question of how TikTok uses US citizens’ data. The order read: “TikTok automatically captures vast swaths of information from its users, including Internet and other network activity information such as location data and browsing and search histories.” However, TikTok seems set to fight back against the ban, as they alongside parent company Bytedance have reportedly filed a complaint to a Washington federal court. In their complaint, TikTok and Bytedance claim that the ban is for “political reasons”. Additionally, in their complaint, they also explain that they are seeking a judgment that serves to “invalidat[e] and preliminarily and permanently enjoining the Prohibitions and the August 6 order”. Whether or not this legal action will succeed remains to be seen, but with free speech organization American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) claiming that the TikTok ban is a violation of the company’s First Amendment right, it is clear that they have a compelling case. How will the TikTok ban affect American users? The Executive Order is expected to come into effect on September 20, which is when the app will be removed from app stores. This means that people will be unable to download it. Whilst those who currently have the app will be able to keep it, the Executive Order means that the app will be unable to be updated, meaning that any bugs or faults with the app will be unable to be fixed. Then, on November 12, a full shutdown will be scheduled to come into effect, meaning that any usage of the app, regardless of whether it was downloaded prior to September 20 will become illegal. What is the future of TikTok? There is hope that by the time this second deadline comes around, Bytedance will have succeeded in finding a suitable US buyer for TikTok. For a while, TikTok seemed set to be sold to Microsoft, but it appears that this deal has since fallen through. But that doesn’t mean that all is lost. CNN reports that other organizations such as Walmart and Oracle are still in the running to acquire TikTok, so it seems like there is still hope for US-based content creators that the app still has a future. Meanwhile, beloved TikTok stars like Charli D’Amelio and Chase Hudson have begun to say their goodbyes to the app that changed their life.

  • TikTok fans grossed out by Nikita Dragun’s video with Alejandro Sario – Dexerto

TikTok fans grossed out by Nikita Dragun’s video with Alejandro Sario Instagram: @nikitadragun / Instagram: alejandrosarioNikita Dragun grossed out her fans after uploading a TikTok video of her intimately dancing and grinding against a much-younger Alejandro Sario, who only just turned 18. Nikita Dragun made headlines recently after her TikTok account was temporarily restricted. It happened because she uploaded a suggestive video that broke guidelines related to nudity and family-friendly content. However, most fans supported her in that instance, and TikTok quickly overturned the restriction. But now she’s at it again, and this time, the fans aren’t on her side. Nikita is 25 years old, but that didn’t stop her from uploading a video of her bumping and grinding against Alejandro Sario, who just turned 18. The video starts with her singing the opening lyrics to alexa demie yo voy by lucía, saying, “ugh, why does everybody think we f*ck?” Then, she proceeds to dance and grind against him while intimately placing her hand on his cheek. Admittedly, there wasn’t much wrong with the dance itself. It wasn’t overly sexual and didn’t appear to break any rules. However, the fact she’s dancing with someone who only turned 18 recently hasn’t sat well with her fans. A few weeks earlier, on January 22, Nikita flirted with Alejandro on Instagram. “You’re 18 now, right? I’m asking for a friend,” she wrote, with a suspicious eye-glance emoji. Alejandro tagged her and responded, saying, “mhm.” So, it seems like she had his eye on him from the moment he turned 18, which prompted some fans to start labeling her as a “predator.” View this post on Instagram Despite the rumors and how the situation looks, Alejandro maintains that they’re just friends. He confirmed it in a TikTok video of his own, which featured a captain, saying, “we’re literally just friends btw before you all assume.” It has since been taken down. However, the two of them have been spotted hanging out together multiple times, which has led some fans to think they’re an item. View this post on Instagram In the end, it’s hard to tell whether they are indeed just good friends or whether there’s something more. Either way, though, their fans are less than impressed with the whole situation; it seems to have left them feeling a little disgusted.

  • TikTok fans hit out at Not a Content House for “non essential” Las Vegas trip – Dexerto

TikTok fans hit out at Not a Content House for “non essential” Las Vegas trip Instagram: Not a Content HouseSeveral members of TikTok collective Not a Content House have been criticized on social media after it was revealed that they travelled from LA to Las Vegas. A post on Karina Prieto’s Instagram story revealed that she, Ana Shumate and Devyn Winkler had left their base in Los Angeles, California to visit Las Vegas in Nevada. LA is considered to be an especially high risk area amid the current health crisis, with an average of 49 new cases everyday being reported per 100,000 people. Comparatively, Las Vegas is averaging 31.2 daily cases per 100,000 people. While there are no current travel restrictions in LA, the Governor and Mayor have recommended that individuals refrain from non-essential travel. In light of the current situation, fans on social media weren’t happy to see the TikTok starlets travelling. Although travelling in LA isn’t technically illegal, one Twitter user said: “It’s not about ‘legal’ it’s about morality. And influencers have shown all 2020 and now that they lack that. And money is the ruler of all to them. Therefore all who dies from this virus is nothing to them.” View this post on Instagram Another fan, who is local to Las Vegas, pleaded with influencers not to travel there, saying: “Can they all just stay out of my city please. I’m so annoyed the strip has been open for tourism.” However, over on Instagram, fans of the content house were defending them. One Instagram user pointed out that “they all live together,” while another said to the critics: “Y’all are acting like if you had the money, you wouldn’t travel.” With this drama coming after the D’Amelios and other TikTokers were caught flying to the Bahamas, other fans couldn’t resist making comparisons. “You can’t cancel Charli and co for flying privately to and from the Bahamas if you won’t cancel NACH for driving to and from Las Vegas,” one fan said on Instagram. “The Bahamas has more rigorous testing requirements than Las Vegas has too. People just pick and choose who to cancel.” Following the backlash, some members of Not a Content House took to Instagram to defend themselves. Devyn Winkler, who lives in Texas, explained that they had to travel because “we have an itinerary we have to follow from our management.” Eva Cudmore, who is also part of the House but was not present on this trip, joked: “I travelled to a whole other country guys give me some hate.” Anna and Karina are yet to comment publicly on the controversy.

  • TikTok-famous ‘scar girl’ addresses backlash after injury suddenly disappears from face – Dexerto

TikTok-famous ‘scar girl’ addresses backlash after injury suddenly disappears from face TikTok, Instagram: annbonelliTikTok’s famous ‘scar girl’ has addressed criticism from viewers after her iconic injury seemed to completely disappear from her face. Ann Bonneli, also known as ‘Annie’ on social media, is a prominent online figure who boasts over 800K followers on TikTok. Ann notably sparked a media frenzy back in early 2023 after critics accused her of faking a prominent scar that streaked across her right cheek. The mark was quite dark compared to her older photos on Instagram, leaving naysayers to believe that she was accentuating the injury with makeup to get attention. In several posts throughout the years, the influencer has claimed she was injured in March 2020 and initially tried to cover up the cut with cosmetics. She said that her skin had a poor reaction to a topical cream she used in an attempt to fade it, resulting in a darker scar. TikTok ‘Scar Girl’ explains why scar disappeared from face Lately, fans have noticed that Ann’s scar seems to have all but disappeared from her face, causing yet another storm of speculation that she was actually faking the scar for views. Bonneli addressed the criticism against her facial injury in a social media post in January 2024, where she explained that she’s stopped attempting to get rid of her scar and has allowed the skin to rest and heal, while also covering it up with concealer. “I’ve had this scar for coming up on four years now,” she said. “…I cover my scar with concealer very well now. I also stopped doing crazy things trying to get rid of it, and I stopped aggravating that skin. I gave it some time and rest, and now it’s a lot lighter. It’s still pretty dark, but it’s always covered.” That’s not all; Bonneli reminded her critics that she received the injury due to a “traumatic” incident in her past and doesn’t appreciate being reminded of the incident thanks to the constant scrutiny surrounding her scar. Despite her claims to the contrary, theories still abound claiming that Ann is faking her scar, with even a board-certified plastic surgeon throwing doubt on her darkly pigmented injury back when the criticism was at its peak in 2023.

  • TikTok fans fight to get Khaby to number one over Charli D’Amelio – Dexerto

TikTok fans fight to get Khaby to number one over Charli D’Amelio TikTok: Khaby Lame/YouTube: Brad MondoKhaby Lame may still be a few million followers behind Charli D’Amelio, but TikTok users have got a plan in place to help him finally take the coveted top spot. While neither Charli D’Amelio nor Khaby Lame post as regularly as they once did on TikTok, the pair have remained in a tense battle to have the title as TikTok’s most-followed creator. Charli has held the spot for quite some time thanks to her impressive 140 million follower count, but Khaby has closed the gap over time with some impressive growth of his own. Though, while he was on course to surpass her not too long ago, the Italian comedian still lags behind. As it stands, Khaby is around three million followers behind Charli, but fans are hoping to finally propel him into first place with their ‘Khaby to number one’ plan. TikToker Noah Glenn Carter highlighted the idea to swarm comment sections and videos with support for Khaby, urging his followers to use the ‘Khaby to number one’ phrase in their replies and posts. While only a few videos have used the #KhabyToNumberOne, Carter’s posts have racked up a few million views on their own, with some fans eager to help out with the campaign. As per SocialBlade stats, since May 5th, the Italian comedian has gained around 200,000 new followers and has seen his follower count rise to 137.5 million despite the fact he has only uploaded a single video in that timeframe. Click here if TikTok doesn’t load Of course, not everybody is on board with the idea of bombarding comment sections, with some questioning if Khaby himself cares all that much about the top spot at this point. “Khaby doesn’t care, he wants to work on his content,” replied one fan to Carter’s video. “Let’s not do this,” added a viewer. “Why must we make him number one, I don’t get it?” asked another. Only time will tell if the idea is successful and if Khaby is able to finally claim the coveted spot at the top of the TikTok mountain.

  • TikTok star’s family concerned daughter’s being held hostage by “cult” management – Dexerto

TikTok star’s family concerned daughter’s being held hostage by “cult” management Instagram: Wilking SistersA TikTok star’s family is devastated after claiming that their daughter had been allegedly inducted into a “church-based cult” targeting dancers in Los Angeles. Former TikTok duo ‘the Wilking Sisters‘ rose to fame in early 2020 when Melanie Wilking, 22, and Miranda Derrick, 25, whose maiden name is Wilking, had the idea to start posting artistic dance videos. At the time, the sisters had over 2 million followers, before breaking off and going about their own careers in mid-2021. As the sisters stopped posting together, fans thought something was off with them – sparking rumors of the duo having a fallout. The situation now appears to be far more concerning, however, as their parents allege a talent agency has held Derrick hostage. The Wilking family speaks out On February 24, Melanie, along with her parents Kelly and Dean Wilking posted a video to Instagram praying for Derrick’s safety and return home, alleging that she has been held hostage” by a talent management agency that operates under the name “7M Films.” “Miranda is part of a religious group and she’s not allowed to speak to us,” Melanie said in the video, which now sits at over 270,000 views. View this post on Instagram The sister’s detachment from her family supposedly began after she intended to fly back home from Los Angeles, California, to Michigan for her grandfather’s funeral. The family said they had flown out to Los Angeles to see where she was staying during the months-long absence in an effort to reunite. After the family’s attempt to meet with the daughter, Derrick allegedly cut all ties and blocked her entire family, including her grandmother. “She got married and we don’t even know when she got engaged,” Miranda’s mom said. “I don’t know who officiated the wedding, I don’t know who was in attendance, I don’t even know anything about it.” So is Miranda being held hostage by a “cult” management? The original concern stemmed from Derrick’s family who believed her management had a major role to play involving her absence. Derrick, along with her husband James, joined 7M Films management in mid-2021, with the “7M” standing for the Pentecostal movement of the Seventh Mountain Mandate. After an independent investigation by Dexerto, we uncovered an individual who goes by the names Robert Shin and also Robert Shinn. This individual with multiple aliases directly links Derrick’s management company 7M Films and a Shekinah church that practices the Seventh Mountain Mandate. Dexerto reached out to Shinn and three of his associates about the allegations against 7M Films to no response. The only representative we were able to reach was Matthew Shinn, who answered but declined to comment. The Wilking family maintains their daughter is being held hostage and are still looking into getting in contact with her. Derrick’s sister Melanie said the family is working with local authorities to get answers following the disappearance. “As of right now, we are choosing to just work on things behind the scenes and with the authorities to get my sister back,” she told Dexerto. Dexerto reached out to the Los Angeles Police Department, to which no reports were readily available.

Topic starts at 01:50 As Hossler and Lewis get into the car – where they are joined by fellow on-off couple Nessa Barrett and Josh Richards – Lewis can be heard saying to Hossler “give me a kiss” before leaning in closer to Hossler. Hossler obliges, pecking Lewis on the lips while fans and paparazzi cheered and screamed before driving home. Is it safe to say that the two of them are now back together for good? What happened between Jaden Hossler and Mads Lewis? Hossler and Lewis first started dating in late 2019 before splitting in February this year amid rumors Hossler cheated. During Chase Hudson’s own messy breakup with Charli D’Amelio, he called out Hossler for cheating on Lewis an “endless amount of times” as well as accusing him of “actively trying to hook up with Dixie [D’Amelio].” While Hossler and Lewis eventually reconciled, they later split up yet again this autumn. While fans were initially unaware of the breakup, issues surrounding the two’s relationship came to light once Hossler’s track with Iann Dior was released on October 21, with many fans dubbing it a “diss track” against Lewis. The song, which is entitled “Tonight”, included lyrics like “I’m through, I’ve had enough of you, I’m giving up”, as well as making reference to “Juice” – the dog him and Lewis share. This led to Lewis unfollowing Hossler on social media and later sharing some lyrics of her own that seemed to refer to an unfaithful partner, with some lyrics saying: “I wanted to believe that you were still sleeping alone.” It seems that the two have definitely patched things up in recent months, apparently putting the past behind them.

  • Parents sue TikTok: More lawsuits over “blackout challenge” deaths – Dexerto

Parents sue TikTok: More lawsuits over “blackout challenge” deaths Unsplash.com: Solen FeyissaTikTok is facing legal action following the deaths of two children, who passed away after attempting the “blackout challenge.” The parents have now spoken out about why they’re taking action against the video-sharing app. Earlier this year, TikTok was hit with a lawsuit from Pennsylvania mother Tawainna Anderson, whose 10-year-old daughter, Nylah, had passed away after purportedly attempting the “blackout challenge” she’d seen on TikTok. Nylah’s death occurred in December 2021. Nylah’s family rushed her to the hospital, but she did not survive, leaving her relatives distraught and searching for answers. Now, other parents are taking legal action against the viral video platform following the deaths of two more children due to the “blackout challenge.” The “blackout challenge” refers to a trend where people attempt to hold their breath or even strangle themselves for as long as possible before passing out. Two children dead after reportedly trying TikTok “blackout challenge” Nine-year-old Arriani Jaileen Arroyo and eight-year-old Lalani Erika Walton were both found deceased after watching videos of the blackout challenge. A report from the LA Times claims that Lalai’s stepmother found her stepdaughter “hanging from her bed with a rope around her neck” after watching blackout challenge clips. Read More: What is TikTok’s ‘Hi I’m Dory’ dance trend? – Arriani’s father reportedly discovered his daughter “hanging from the family dog’s leash” in the basement after “she gradually became obsessive” over TikTok. Two wrongful death suits have been filed against the social media company in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, one of which argues that “TikTok’s product and its algorithm directed exceedingly and unacceptably dangerous challenges and videos.” “This is not easy, to wake up every day and know that your little girl is never coming back,” Arriani’s mother Christal Arroyo Roman said on Good Morning America. “We just never thought that there was a darker side to what TikTok allows on its platform.” The lawsuit claims that “TikTok’s algorithm was designed to promote ‘TikTok Challenges’ to young users to increase their engagement and maximize TikTok’s profits.” Although TikTok has not yet commented on these two most recent lawsuits at the time of writing, the company did reach out to clarify criticism regarding the “blackout challenge” last year. “This disturbing ‘challenge,’ which people seem to learn about from sources other than TikTok, long predates our platform and has never been a TikTok trend,” a TikTok spokesperson said. It’s true that the blackout challenge has been around for some time, with studies reporting that 82 children were fatally injured after trying the dare between 1995 – 2007. These latest suits follow news of FCC commissioner Brendan Carr urging both Apple and Google to ban TikTok from their app stores, claiming the platform presents “a serious national security threat.”

  • TikTok goes crazy over drama surrounding Fletcher’s new song “Becky’s So Hot” – Dexerto

TikTok goes crazy over drama surrounding Fletcher’s new song “Becky’s So Hot” Instagram: findingxfletcher, beckymissalThe lesbian influencer community is back in the limelight, with Fletcher’s new song “Becky’s So Hot” taking fire at her ex Shannon Beveridge and new girlfriend Becky Missal, sparking much discourse on TikTok. Cari Fletcher is an American singer and songwriter who has risen to fame in recent years. She burst onto the scene with her smash hit 2019 single Undrunk. The song managed to reach No.1 on Spotify’s viral chart and became her first song to appear on the Billboard Hot 100. On July 13, Fletcher posted a video on her TikTok account, giving her fans a quick 30-second taste of her up-and-coming release, Becky’s So Hot. While only a short snippet of the song, the lyrics are already causing a storm online: “Are you in love like we were? If I were you, I’d probably keep her. Makes me wanna hit her when I see her, ‘cause Becky’s so hot in your vintage t-shirt.” These lyrics now have fans speculating that it is all about the current girlfriend of her ex, Shannon Beveridge. Shannon is an openly gay influencer who gained popularity in the 2010s via her YouTube channel, Nowthisisliving. The channel was her space to talk about her life and she was open in talking about her coming out journey and what it was like growing up gay in a conservative area like Texas. She would also host collabs with many other popular queer YouTubers such as Rose and Rosie and Ally Hills. Shannon’s first public relationship with fellow influencer Cammie Scott was widely featured on her channel and fans would tune in weekly to watch the two. They did sadly break up in 2016, and Shannon has since gone on to continue her YouTube channel while also branching out in photography and filmmaking. Shannon and Fletcher’s relationship and how Becky fits into the drama After ending the relationship with Cammie Scott, Shannon then went on to date Fletcher. Beveridge then became much more private about her love life and personal relationships, however fans soon discovered that she was dating singer Fletcher. The two never actually confirmed that they were dating. A 2020 Teen Vogue piece about the two discusses how “though the duo are each famous in their own right and have built their careers on being open with fans about their identities as queer people and creators, they never confirmed or denied their status to fans while their relationship was still intact.” However, it is believed that they were dating from 2017 to 2020. Their relationship allegedly ended when the global health crisis was at its peak. Despite their break-up, Beveridge still filmed and directed the music video for Fletcher’s song “Sex (with my ex)”. Now in 2022, Shannon has a new long-time girlfriend, Becky Missal. The two have been dating for a while, with Shannon once again secluding more into privacy. Fletcher, on the other hand, has continued to grow in popularity and is currently on a world tour. However, Shannon Beveridge now finds herself back in the spotlight due to Fletcher’s new song. And while it appears Shannon and her current girlfriend Becky are not happy about the song or the situation, the lesbian community is living for the drama. Community response and the fallout LGBTQ+ TikTok users have been vigorously posting reactions about this reveal. Reigniting conversation about Fletcher’s past relationship with Beveridge in the process. Some users have commented on the initial TikTok stating “Fletcher is unhinged for this.” One TikToker even asked for lesbian YouTuber couple Rose and Rosie to do a reaction video to the song and the subsequent drama. The news has also been trending on Twitter and Instagram. Responses from Shannon and Becky, while simple, have only been adding fuel to the fire. Despite Shannon not coming out properly and acknowledged the situation, she has unfollowed Fletcher on Instagram and deleted any old photos of the two that remained on her social media platforms. She posted on Twitter what appears to be a very pointed message to Fletcher. The tweet simply reads “an empath would never.” Some fans were theorising that this was all a publicity stunt. That Shannon and Becky are in on the song and had agreed to play along. On Becky’s latest Instagram post, one user asked outright, “did you and Shannon give the thumbs up for fletcher to write her new song about y’all?” Becky was quick to shut that idea down, replying with a simple “no”. The lesbian community, as well as the wider queer fans, have been expressing their support for Becky who somehow has ended up in the middle of a situation she shouldn’t be in. While some people think Fletcher’s actions are simply fun and silly, others are pointing out just how damaging they might be. The full version of Becky’s So Hot drops later in July. The drama surrounding Fletcher’s new song is likely to continue to grow on TikTok when it releases.

  • TikTok enraged after Popeyes calls police on student for trying to buy homeless man food – Dexerto

TikTok enraged after Popeyes calls police on student for trying to buy homeless man food TikTok/thegirlyjo/PopeyesA TikToker is going viral after her attempt at buying food for a homeless man resulted in Popeyes calling the police on her. TikTok is home to some of the wildest trends, moments, and spectacles on the internet and while there are heartwarming moments, there are others that can spark massive outrage. No better incident can sum that up better than what happened to Georgia University student Jo Ortega when she was picking up a Doordash order and decided to feed a homeless man. After trying to order a two-piece chicken for him at an Atlanta Popeyes, the employee shut the drive-thru window and got her manager who revealed she wouldn’t be allowed to buy the man dinner. (click here if TikTok fails to load) Popeyes refuses to let TikToker buy homeless man food As the TikToker explained the situation to her viewers, another employee showed up and explained that she wouldn’t be allowed to buy food for the homeless. “No, ma’am, we can’t do it. I could care less about you recording me, baby” the employee said before slamming the window shut. According to Ortega, the Popeyes workers then called the police, which left her absolutely shocked. “At that moment I was terrified, I thought I was gonna get arrested,” she told Fox, but revealed that officers thanked her for trying to feed the homeless. “The officer pulled me to the side and said, ‘I really thank you for doing that, thank you for buying him food. I appreciate that.’” (click here if TikTok fails to load) Luckily, despite the situation, she was able to get in touch with a general manager at the store who allowed both Ortega and the homeless man to eat anything they wanted for free. For his part, the homeless man, who said his name was Jazz, thanked Ortega for her kindness and for getting him something to eat. In a statement, Popeyes said it is “committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect” and employees at the restaurant have received “retraining” to handle situations such as the one in the TikTok video. This isn’t the first time Popeyes has gone viral on TikTok for all the wrong reasons. Last year, a location in DC was shut down after a TikToker exposed its “hazardous” rat infection.

  • TikTok dominates Forbes 30 under 30 list: Addison Rae, D’Amelios, more – Dexerto

TikTok dominates Forbes 30 under 30 list: Addison Rae, D’Amelios, more Instagram: CharliDAmelio/AddisonRaeA handful of TikTok stars including Charli and Dixie D’Amelio, as well as Addison Rae and Loren Gray have been named in Forbes’ 2021 edition of the social media 30 under 30. With TikTok blowing up similarly to Vine, plenty of creators have become stars – taking their TikTok following and doing something else, be it starting a YouTube channel or launching a music career. However, some have become household names, creating their own brands and linking up with hugely successful companies for collaborations – see Charli D’Amelio dominating in the advertising space and creating their own products with Sabra and Dunkin’ Donuts respectively. Each year, success like this is recognized by Forbes and their 30 Under 30 list, which highlights rising stars in a long line of spaces – and it should come as no surprise that a number of TikTok stars have made the cut this year. TikTokers on Forbes’ 2021 30 Under 30 list The American business magazine released their 2021 list for the 30 Under 30 on December 1, with the D’Amelio sisters – Charli and Dixie – making up one of the seven spots claimed by TikTokers. Both Addison Rae and Loren Gray also made the cut, which should come as no surprise saying as they’re both still inside the top five most-followed TikTok accounts. Additionally, Avanni Greg, Spencer Polanco, Michael Le & Michael Uy, and Jalaiah Harmon – the originator of the Renegade dance – also make the cut. Though, the latter is named as a ‘dancer’ despite her following on the app. David Dobrik is also listed as a TikToker – which might cause a few fans to scratch their heads and question it – seeing as he had plenty of prior success on YouTuber. Either way, though, with nearly a quarter of the list being taken over by TikTok stars, it shows how far the app has come, and just how far some creators can go if they manage to build up a big enough following. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone else can replicate their success next year, or if these TikTokers are the main trendsetters.

  • TikTok doors vs wheels debate: Are there more wheels or doors in the world? – Dexerto

TikTok doors vs wheels debate: Are there more wheels or doors in the world? TikTokTikTok users have absolutely taken over the internet with a viral debate about whether or not there are more doors or wheels in the world. Yes, really. Whether it’s the latest dance trend or a creator going viral for their unique talents, TikTok has been the home of viral content since it switched over from Musically in August 2018. Now, creators from all around the world are debating whether there are more doors or wheels in existence — and the app is split between their decision. Here’s everything we know about the debate, as well as some of the arguments from both sides. TikTok doors debate explained With hundreds of videos and millions of views across them, some of the creators on TikTok believe there are more doors than there are wheels. TikTok user katiemyer11 posted a video using skyscrapers, hospitals, large houses, and even laundromats for their argument. (Click here if the TikTok doesn’t load) Another user — ybndev — uploaded a video arguing that if gears count as wheels, then the amount of doors also increases as they would be able to count hatch style covers like what is seen on camera battery slots and the back of the Nintendo Switch dock. (Click here if the TikTok doesn’t load) TikTok wheels debate When it comes to the wheels side of the debate, most of the users on the app use the same examples in their arguments. TikToker ‘c.engey’ shows a variety of examples for his side of the argument, including shopping carts, office chairs, and factory conveyor belts. While another user also brought up the examples of tractor-trailers and hot wheels cars. While there isn’t exactly an easy and accurate way to figure out whether there are more wheels than there are doors in the world — plenty of people on TikTok believe that they have it figured out… There’s Team Door and Team Wheels, which one are you joining? • TikTok DMs not working: Direct messages crashing app – Dexerto

TikTok DMs not working: Direct messages crashing app TikTokTikTok users have been reporting that the DM function on the platform has stopped working, with some people unable to open their messages without the app freezing or totally crashing. The ability to send messages on TikTok is one of the app’s most crucial features, as with a fairly limited search function, one of the best ways to find new content and help your “For You” page (FYP) adjust to your interests is to exchange your favorite TikToks with your friends. TikTok makes it easy to send messages to your friends or followers with a couple of taps while scrolling through your FYP. However, countless people, as of March 14, are reporting a series of issues regarding the DM function that’s making it hard to communicate. The key issue that’s being reported is that for some, opening the ‘Direct messages’ tab causes the app to freeze, and sometimes totally crash. https://twitter.com/carsonrebecca__/status/1370970663670984705 https://twitter.com/Anser1Hamza/status/1370983654290243585 The rest of the app seems to be operating as normal, but DMs have been severely impacted. It’s currently not clear what has actually caused the issue, as TikTok is yet to make any kind of announcement about it. However, being such a popular app, bugs and glitches on the platform are fairly commonplace, and generally get resolved quite quickly. Issues can be reported to TikTok via their Help Center. • TikTok divided over worker “comping” order for woman after her boyfriend refused to pay – Dexerto

TikTok divided over worker “comping” order for woman after her boyfriend refused to pay TikTok: DoughremitxA new TikTok is sparking a major debate online after a US cookie dough company decided to offer up a woman a comp for her order after her boyfriend refused to pay for it on the day of their 2 year anniversary. In a new TikTok captioned “chill out Kyle” a worker from the Dough Re Mi store in Texas recounted a recent interaction she had in her store. Asking her viewers “am I the asshole?” after explaining what had happened during the interaction between her and a young couple. “So we had a couple come in the other day and after some small talk, we figured out it was her 2 year anniversary. Initially, they agreed to just share the double scoop that the guy had ordered but his girlfriend ended up wanting some of her own dough as well.” The worker then explained that the woman, “asked him if it was okay and he said he was but seemed very annoyed about it. When it came time to pay he only paid for the cookie dough he had ordered and started walking off. She looked confused and asked if he was going to pay for her order as well.” If the TikTok is unable to load, you can access it via the link here. He said no she could pay for her own food because she should have made up her mind in the beginning. • TikTok DJ sparks backlash for cuddling with kitty during loud house party – Dexerto

TikTok DJ sparks backlash for cuddling with kitty during loud house party Instagram: thatcher / TikTok: @tahtcheA DJ is facing criticism on TikTok after uploading a viral video that showed him burning up the turntables while his pet cat lounged on his shoulders. If you’re a cat person, you’ll know just how awesome it is to share a cuddly moment with your feline bestie. However, one TikToker is facing flak after chilling with his kitty in an especially loud environment, leading to concerns over the cat’s health. TikToker and DJ ‘Thatcher’ is going viral on the platform for uploading a clip of himself tearing up the turntables while an extremely chilled-out Bengal cat relaxes on his shoulders for the “world’s first cat / human DJ duo.” Click here if TikTok fails to load. The clip has racked up over one million views — and while some commenters find the moment to be super adorable, many others aren’t amused by the video. In fact, most comments on the TikTok are calling out the DJ for exposing the animal to a potentially unsafe environment as well as extremely loud noise. Cats’ ears are particularly sensitive for the purpose of detecting prey, so loud noises can potentially damage their ears, “producing temporary or in some cases even permanent hearing loss.” As such, many viewers aren’t too jazzed that the Bengal’s ears might have been seriously hurt by the ordeal and are calling for the DJ to be more careful with his pet in the future. “Bruh come on,” one user wrote. “Bengals got super-sensitive ears (coming from a Bengal owner and DJ lover). You gotta design some headphones for protection or something.” “Get that cat some ear plugs,” another urged. “Bro should not be a cat owner,” another viewer claimed. While Thatcher has yet to officially respond to the backlash, he has uploaded several other videos showing off his travels with his Bengal pet, most of which have been met with positivity. Whatever the case may be, this Bengal is definitely a cutie – and perhaps deserves a spot in our list of TikTok’s top animal stars.

  • TikTok petition to get Onlyjayus banned goes viral with 400,000 signatures – Dexerto

TikTok petition to get Onlyjayus banned goes viral with 400,000 signatures Instagram, onlyjayusA petition to ban popular TikToker Onlyjayus from the platform continues to gain momentum, eclipsing 400,000 signatures after accusations of racism and discrimination against disabled people. According to the petition page, it was started three weeks ago because of a controversial joke the TikTok star made about robbing a disabled person. This as well as claims of “mistreating disabled creators and creators of color” has led many to call for them to be removed. Onlyjayus, whose real name is Isabella Avila, has over 14 million followers on the platform. They regularly post videos usually in front of their bathroom mirror telling strange facts or movie trivia. The controversy around Avila started when screenshots of messages using racist language resurfaced. At the time, they were called out by fellow TikTokers like Aunt Karen. I know it was frustrating waiting for me to address this, but instead of just reacting to it like I usually do, I wanted to do better and reflect pic.twitter.com/4Ri6WU8ALO — onlyjayus (@notjayus) February 13, 2021 In an apology, Avila promised to work with creators of color and offer their platform as a way to highlight issues around racism. While both parts of that apology can still be found on the influencer’s TikTok and Twitter, many people have argued that Onlyjayus has failed to spotlight Black creators since. The only video discussing antiracism on their platform was posted a few weeks later but only featured Avila in the video discussing a recent book they had read. Why was a petition started? In June, Avila posted a video on May 23 that joked that if a service dog approaches someone alone, it is likely because their owner needs help. The influencer then proceeded to joke about robbing the owner as you should follow the dog because “you’ll get a free wallet”. The video, still on Onlyjayus’ page, has 7.2 million views and 1.2 million likes at the time of writing. The video was quickly called out for mocking disabled people. In response, Jayus appeared to show little remorse leaving comments below other TikToks continuing to make light of the situation. Speaking to the Tab, Vanellope Von Addams who started the petition said this: “I feel that anyone with that kind of following needs to learn how to take responsibility for their own actions instead of acting like they are too big to apologize. Jayus would be nothing without their platform and it can easily be taken away by the people who gave it to them.” Isabella Avila isn’t the only influencer to have gotten into hot water recently over racism accusations in recent months. YouTuber PewDiePie called out Oli London recently for undergoing multiple surgeries to look Korean. The Swede accused the fellow Youtuber of “appropriating another race“. Hasan Piker, political commentator and Twitch streamer, was also accused of using a racial slur after mispronouncing the word “never” during a stream. Has the petition made any impact? Since the petition started in early June, Onlyjayus still has social media platforms on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. With over 14 million followers on TikTok, they still remain influential with videos regularly getting millions of views. Over the last 30 days despite the petition, Avila saw a gain of 1.7 million followers between June 6 and July 5. Their daily average growth has been around 60,000 followers per day. However, while they are still gaining followers, there has been a decline. Their follower growth is down 34.6% compared to the previous 30 day period. In the week the petition launched subscriber growth dropped from 1.1 million to 100,000 per week and likes went from 41.5 million to 6.8 million. The petition has also trended on Google at times too, suggesting it is gaining traction. Has Onlyjayus responded to the petition? Soon after the petition launched, Avila posted on Twitter a tweet mocking the petition saying that more than 13.5 million signatures would need to be reached before they got worried. This was their follower count at the time. They have also posted a Tiktok mocking the petition. The petition as of publication stands at just under 408,000 signatures.

  • TikTok crisis as top stars Bella Poarch, Addison Rae, more all hit with rapid bans – Dexerto

TikTok crisis as top stars Bella Poarch, Addison Rae, more all hit with rapid bans Instagram: Addison Rae, Bella PoarchTikTok is leaving users confused and upset as the social media platform just hit a number of its biggest creators with seemingly “permanent” bans: Addison Rae, Charli D’Amelio, and Bella Poarch are among those impacted. Bella Poarch might be a big-time music artist now, but fans can’t forget how she got her start on TikTok when she created the platform’s most-liked video of all time. The ‘Build a Bitch’ singer has gone on to accrue massive internet fame, boasting a TikTok following of over 88.9 million fans (not including her nearly 6 million YouTube subscribers). However, these fans were left totally confused after the star was the very first to be hit with an unexpected “permanent” ban from TikTok on April 12. This seemingly triggered a chain reaction as many of her peers at the top of TikTok were also hit with rapid bans shortly after. Bella Poarch among first wave of surprise TikTok bans Poarch shared a screenshot of a TikTok notification via Twitter, which said that she’d been permanently banned from the viral video site for “multiple violations of our community guidelines.” The singer reacted to this news with a sad face emoji, seemingly just as confused as her listeners. An hour after her account was hit offline, Poarch seemingly had the TikTok ban overturned. At the time of writing, her account is once again active with all of her content now visible. Addison Rae hit with “permanent” TikTok ban Poarch wasn’t the only major TikTok star getting hit with a surprise ban from the platform today. Addison Rae also claimed she was banned from the site, showing that she’d similarly been in violation of Community Guidelines. Luckily, she was able to joke about the ordeal, saying “I knew I should have deleted the twerking video.” I knew I should’ve deleted the twerking video 😔😭😭😭 pic.twitter.com/SytzsPbPJj — Addison Rae (@whoisaddison) April 12, 2022 Similar to Poarch, Rae’s ban appeared to be temporary after all. Following the pattern, her TikTok account has since resurfaced, with fans once again able to view her content. Charli D’Amelio banned on TikTok That’s not all; even Charli D’Ameliowas seemingly hit with a permaban, leaving fans totally confused, upset, and concerned that this could be the result of another widespread hack like the one that saw questionable content uploaded to the YouTube channels of stars like Ariana Grande and Justin Bieber last week. It’s unclear exactly why all of these top stars were temporarily banned from the platform, though this certainly isn’t the first time something like this has occurred. Just last year, Addison Rae received what was supposed to be a “permanent” ban from the site before getting reinstated after a short time. Charli D’Amelio, Addison Rae & Bella Poarch unbanned on TikTok Luckily, it looks like the issue was resolved shorty afterwards, as all affected accounts have now been reinstated and are up and running again. It looks like even Minecraft star Dream got hit with a ban, leading to a humorous interaction between the YouTube star and Bella Poarch, who joked that TikTok should “keep him banned because he was mean to me.” .@tiktokcreators can u please keep @dreamwastaken banned, he was mean to me🥺 — Bella Poarch (@bellapoarch) April 13, 2022 Whatever the case may be, the issues appear to have been resolved for now. Though rest assured, we’ll keep you updated right here as any further details emerge.

  • TikTok creator slammed for claiming YouTube videos over makeup “hack” – Dexerto

TikTok creator slammed for claiming YouTube videos over makeup “hack” Jaridamat, Instagram / Freepik.comA TikTok creator has been met with backlash online after claiming YouTubers’ videos testing out a viral makeup “hack” that she used — but it seems that the TikTokker may not be to blame for the copyright strikes. TikTokker ‘Jarida’ shared a well-known makeup hack to her followers in a video, where she explained that putting on translucent powder before foundation helps the makeup to last longer. The video quickly gained over three million views, causing YouTubers to test the hack out for themselves — but their efforts were quickly dashed, with many complaining that their uploads had been claimed by the TikTokker for using her footage in their own videos. YouTuber ‘SophDoesLife’ took to Twitter to address the issue, which incited a wave of backlash against Jarida for appearing to claim her video’s ad revenue over a small clip. “Right, so the girl who posted the TikTok makeup hack of using powder before foundation has copyright claimed my recent YouTube video!” she explained. “I don’t get it, surely it’s free promo for her TikTok. Gonna have to mute her part, or she will earn adsense from my video.” right so the girl who posted the tiktok makeup hack of using powder before foundation has copyright claimed my recent youtube video!!! 😂🤷🏼♀️ I don’t get it, surely it’s free promo of her tiktok 🤷🏼♀️ gonna have to mute her part or she will earn all the adsense from my video 🙃 — Soph 🪩 (@sophdoeslife) March 16, 2020 A now-deleted Tweet from Jarida further exacerbated the issue, with the TikTokker arguing that, “YouTubers with 1 million subscribers used my video without permission and are making money off of it, while I sit dead broke.” However, it doesn’t seem that Jarida was the criminal mastermind behind the copyright claims; instead, company ‘Collab DRM’ (also behind the infamous Alinity vs PewDiePie feud) seems to have been responsible, with YouTuber RawBeautyKristi explaining what she called a “misunderstanding.” & then copyright claim every creator who has used that content on YouTube. When you dispute the copyright claim with facts such as fair use, they will deny your dispute. At that point, the ONLY action that you can take is to file a lawsuit and take them to court. They KNOW THIS — RawBeautyKristi (@RawBeautyKristi) March 17, 2020 According to Kristi, Collab DRM had offered Jarida money in exchange for rights to her video, later copyright striking any YouTube video that used her footage to claim its ad revenue. She has since contacted the company to remove the claims, as this was not her intention, but they now own the rights/license to her videos so they won’t. She now has no say over her OWN CONTENT. This is predatory, theft and frankly DISGUSTING. *all of this is my opinion*— RawBeautyKristi (@RawBeautyKristi) March 17, 2020 While this information cannot be verified for certain, it does bear a haunting resemblance to the issue surrounding Alinity’s copy strike against PewDiePie from 2018, which went viral after the YouTube king put the company on blast. Although Jarida’s copy strike drama was revealed to be a miscommunication, fans continue to speak out against YouTube’s divisive content ID system that remains a divisive topic amongst the community to this day.

  • TikTok creators can now apply for account verification – Dexerto

TikTok creators can now apply for account verification Unsplash: Olivier BergeronCreators on TikTok in some places are now able to apply for account verification through the app, putting them in with a chance of getting a blue tick next to their name if they meet the necessary requirements. TikTok is one of the biggest social media platforms in the world right now, and new users are flocking to it each day to browse content, and create some of their own. Like other platforms, TikTok has a verification feature, which means that notable accounts belonging to celebrities, businesses, big influencers, and more, receive a blue tick next to their name. This blue tick tells users that the account belongs to who they are claiming to be, and is a coveted badge among many growing creators. Up until now, there was no way for users to directly apply for verification, as it was something awarded at TikTok’s discretion. But, on November 23, some users began reporting that they are now able to directly apply for verification through the app. TikTok has also updated their website to include instructions on how users can do this (though they note that this feature is currently not available everywhere.) If you have the feature and want to apply for verification, just go to your profile, click on ‘Menu’ and then ‘Settings and Privacy.’ Then, tap ‘Manage account,’ ‘Verification,’ and follow the steps on-screen to apply. If this option is not available within the app, you can also try going through TikTok’s website. TikTok say that they do not consider the number of followers someone has as a requirement when deciding whether to give a verified badge, but they do require an account to be active, authentic, complete, notable, and secure. Although the feature, like many of TikTok’s new additions, is not available everywhere just yet, many are hoping it will roll out to more places in the coming weeks and months. • TikTok users speak out as Creator Fund glitch stops stars from being paid – Dexerto

TikTok users speak out as Creator Fund glitch stops stars from being paid Unsplash: Mourizal ZativaUsers on TikTok who hit the threshold for access to the Creator Fund have been finding themselves unable to access any form of payment due to a glitch on the app’s registration system. The platform is working on a fix for the issue. The TikTok Creator Fund was launched in the middle of 2020 as a proposed $2 billion dollar fund to pay the makers of content on the app. While this amount sounds mind-boggling, it’s still dwarfed by the $15 billion that YouTube pays out to content creators yearly. However, the three-year initiative is a start for monetization on the billion-user platform. Despite this, reaping monetary gain from the work put into making, and maintaining a popular TikT0k brand has been a goal for hundreds, if not thousands of makers worldwide. Those dreams have been unceremoniously halted in their tracks over the past month as a number of TikTokers have found themselves blocked from registering for the fund, despite reaching all points of eligibility. Turning to the r/TikTokHelp subreddit, complaints have arisen from finding issues at the same point in the process: age verification. “I get an error message saying the page couldn’t load and to try again later. It allows me to fill out my birth date and email address, but when it comes to selecting my country and then uploading my identification, it won’t let me do anything at all,” one user said. Stories from dozens of creators all run along the same line — an inability to appropriately register for the fund. Halting the ability to withdraw from the fund entirely, users have been understandably upset and disheartened by this. Following requests for comment, TikTok creator Matt Mooney told Bloomberg: “Once I finally hit 10,000 followers, I felt pretty achieved. And then seeing that glitch, it’s a very defeating feeling, every time I post, all I can think about now is how much I would have gotten in the creator fund.” TikTok have announced that the company is “aware of an issue that is impacting the sign up flow for the Creator Fund and are actively working on a fix that should be available in the next few days.” Whether this will mean payment for creators will be backdated remains to be seen.

  • TikTok creator Kristen Hancher claims app wouldn’t have self-timer without her – Dexerto

TikTok creator Kristen Hancher claims app wouldn’t have self-timer without her Pixabay / Instagram, @kristenhancherDuring a wide-ranging interview on the No Jumper podcast, TikTok creator Kristen Hancher revealed just how big of an impact her work with Musical.ly has had on the platform we know today – including the beloved self-timer. Kristen Hancher has built up quite the social media footprint at this point. The influencer segued her Musical.ly audience into seven-plus million followers across Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok – despite losing 26-plus million followers when her TikTok got banned. In a new episode of the No Jumper podcast, she delved into a number of topics. Among them were her formerly unknown contributions to TikTok’s functionality today. As Hancher explains, as a young, popular creator on Musical.ly, she was able to speak with the app’s creators about different issues prior to the TikTok merger. Going further, she claims that the app wouldn’t have its popular self-timer and video length features without those conversations. How Kristen Hancher gave TikTok its self-timer (For mobile users, segment begins at 47:04) While most people might know Hancher for her makeup and trend TikToks, it turns out she played a role in TikTok’s development as well. Asked about her ban (which was due to issues with promoting her OF), she explained that it wasn’t reversed because the app’s current owners “weren’t there when I built up their f**king business.” Elaborating, Kristen revealed that she used to have “conference calls and weekly meetings” with Musical.ly’s owner about improving the app. Read more: Rising Creators: Who is Mr.Zanadood? Teacher uses gaming to go viral with students on TikTok – She went even further, elaborating about her role in some of TikTok’s most foundational features: “You know they wouldn’t have a f**king self-timer if it wasn’t for my a**? They wouldn’t have a longer time limit, more than 15 seconds.” While it seems unlikely that Kristen will be able to recoup the 26-plus millions of followers she lost when her TikTok was banned, she doesn’t seem particularly fazed. During the rest of the podcast, she explained how happy she still is with her brand and content. Simultaneously, TikTok’s owners also have reason to be happy. The platform surged in 2021 to become the world’s biggest website – thanks in part to features like the self-timer and lengthier time limits.

  • TikTok Crashing: Users report app keeps closing and won’t open – Dexerto

TikTok Crashing: Users report app keeps closing and won’t open Pixabay: Lorendiz GonzalezThe world’s fastest-growing app TikTok is facing mass outages and crashes according to thousands of its users as they scramble to figure out what is going on. On Monday evening, March 22, and into the early hours of March 23, the TikTok app started crashing for thousands of users who have been left frustrated with their favorite app. TikTok has not officially responded to the issue at the time of writing. Among the frustrated users on Twitter, many reported that they were unable to check notifications, upload videos, or even open the app to begin with. Others reported issues with other apps and websites alongside this including Gmail, Amazon, Tumblr, and Yahoo. One person asked, “Is TikTok not working right for anyone else? Because I like can’t go to my favorites or a sound without the app like freezing and crashing.” is tiktok not working right for anyone else bc i like cant go to my favorites or a sound without the app like freezing and crashing — tobi ♡ (@kudosmegumi) March 23, 2021 While another joked “Me: *goes to look at TikTok as part of my evening routine*, Tiktok: haha, nope, we’re just gonna keep crashing, Me: well now I’m very hungry and kinda bored.” Me: *goes to look at tiktok as part of my evening routine* Tiktok: haha, nope, we’re just gonna keep crashing Me: well now I’m very hungry and kinda bored — 🌭🛹💜💚🇺🇦🇵🇸🐦Edith(Edit)/Linden (Den)✊🏻✊🏼✊✊ (@StarFlight4842_) March 22, 2021 How to troubleshoot the issue One Twitter user has suggested a solution for those with an android phone such as a Samsung, writing “If TikTok app, Gmail, crashing, etc on Samsung… Uninstall Android System Webviewer from the app store. If it’s currently installing, go to apps in your settings, force stop it, disable it and go back to playstore to Uninstall. Everything will work again!” Yall! If Tiktok app, gmail, crashing etc on Samsung… Uninstall Android System Webviewer from app store. If it’s currently installing, go to apps in your settings, force stop it, disable it and go back to playstore to Uninstall. Everything will work again! 💪 — Heather DiRocco (@LDredknot) March 22, 2021 However, this method is certainly not foolproof with IOS users also reporting difficulties using the app. Speculation of the cause has ranged from the device people are using to the location of the user, but none seem to serve as an explanation. Most likely, this is an internal issue at TikTok, and most will merely need to wait until it is fixed. Meanwhile, you’re one of the lucky few who are able to use the app, you can let TikTok know by clicking on ‘Me’, then the menu icon, and selecting the “Crashing/Not Responding/Lagging/Other” option. This comes after the Facebook family of apps: WhatsApp, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram all crashed simultaneously last week sending millions into a Twitter frenzy.

  • TikTok couple goes viral for filming spa days with their cats – Dexerto

TikTok couple goes viral for filming spa days with their cats TikTok: @dontstopmeowingTikTok is home to a wide variety of humorous, interesting, and sometimes downright odd content — but one couple is going viral for all the right reasons, thanks to their adorable cat videos. When it comes to the internet, cats have historically reigned supreme, and this trend hasn’t changed over the years. TikTok, like YouTube before it, boasts a hive of feline videos, which have carved out their own space on the app alongside their fellow lupine companions. Two influencers in particular are taking over TikTok’s cat video corner. They go by the names ‘Kareem and Fifi,’ and they’re a crazy cat couple whose clips with their three cats have taken the viral video app by storm. Kareem and Fifi’s feline trio consists of a brown tabby named Chase, a tortoiseshell named Millie, and a Himalayan named Skye. The group gets into all sorts of hijinks that are posted to TikTok, which include everything from strapping the cats in a car seat for a short ride to taking them shopping at the pet store in baby carriers. While these humorous outings have certainly skyrocketed them to TikTok stardom, it’s their spa day videos that are gaining the most attention. In these clips, the couple relaxes alongside their furry friends, who are comfortably snuggled up underneath towels with cucumber slices over their eyes. These latest uploads from the Kareem and Fifi are an ongoing series, where Fifi will hilariously come upon her hubby relaxing beside the cats, who is apparently under the impression that his partner isn’t home to discover them. Unfortunately, Fifi seems to find the situation comically ridiculous and tries to remove the cats from the odd situation — but each time, Chase refuses her attempts to get him out of bed. Although YouTube boasts its fair share of kitty ASMR spa treatments, Kareem and Fifi’s humorous spa day sketches have gained them an impressive 3.3 million followers in just a short time, with one of the first videos in the series gaining well over 55 million views, alone. Considering their newfound TikTok success, there’s no telling where the spa day saga will go next — but cat lovers are definitely here for it.
