NICKMERCS argues XDefiant is off to a “great start” but explains why it could fizzle out Twitch: NICKMERCS / UbisoftNICKMERCS is loving Ubisoft’s fledgling Call of Duty rival XDefiant in the early runnings, but warned in his latest Twitch stream that the hype could die off quickly. A fortnight removed from his attempted “cancellation,” as he himself put it, NICKMERCS is back in the public eye, regularly streaming on Twitch once again. Despite the surrounding controversy and the ramifications that saw Activision remove his custom skin in Call of Duty, the popular streamer has only continued to grow across social media in the aftermath. Now shifting his sights onto what many are eyeing as real competition to CoD’s dominant position on the FPS throne, Nick was among the first to jump into XDefiant’s latest testing period ahead of its full release later this year. After a hectic six-and-a-half-hour grind, he was definitely left impressed by Ubisoft’s new title, but NICKMERCS warned that the hype could die out rather quickly if devs don’t follow certain steps post-launch. Giving his initial take after the day one grind, the veteran FPS player praised XDefiant’s “great maps” and “great gameplay,” claiming it’s off to a “great start” overall. “Big congrats to XDefiant and the whole team over there. It’s really hard to put out a product that plays good and feels good off [the] rip, and I think it really does play good and feel good,” NICKMERCS said. However, this great start may only get Ubisoft so far in the highly competitive FPS market, he then explained. “That right there, that product, it will get old fast. “The truth is, they’ve gotta start making some big announcements. Hopefully they have a content [roadmap] they’re gonna push out over the next couple of months. They need that, they need to keep the momentum.” One such way of keeping the ball rolling after launch is through honing in on the competitive community, NICKMERCS argued. Through the likes of a “ranked mode” followed by full-fledged “competitive seasons” and even bigger community “tournaments,” that’s how XDefiant will maintain interest in the weeks and months ahead, he claimed. Beyond that, he circled back to the one genre he frequents more than anything, Battle Royales. “Dream scenario, then I’d roll out a battle royale. That’s what I would do, if everything was as easy as I said.” So while XDefiant is off to a “great start” in his eyes, NICKMERCS clearly has his concerns over its long-term potential. We’ll just have to wait and see what Ubisoft has in store for its future content pipeline as we draw closer to its full launch.

  • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl tier list – top characters picked by Smash pros – Dexerto

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl tier list – top characters picked by Smash pros NickelodeonPro Super Smash Bros. players have concluded who the best and worst Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl characters are so far. Here’s the tier list. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is a major hit with the fighting game community. The game takes huge inspiration from the Smash Bros. franchise, leading many top players from the community to give the game a shot. Some of the best players and content creators for the game have shared their tier lists as they’ve already begun weeding out the good and bad characters. Smash pros’ Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl tier lists Adam “Armada” Lindgren, one of the best Smash Melee players of all time, shared his tier list for Nickelodeon. Notable top-tier “S” ranked characters are Aang, Leonardo, Michael-Angelo, and Oblina. Armada ranks Aangis the best character in the game, saying: “I feel like a lot of the stuff Oblina does, Aang does a little bit more consistent. His nair (neutral-aerial), while being one frame slower, is active for six frames longer with a bigger hitbox so you can more reliably send people where you want.” He concluded his thoughts on Aang being the best character by pointing out he gets “more range, with the same punishes”, giving the air-bender the edge over Oblina. Time starts 12:20 for mobile users Smash commentator Zak “Coney” Zeeks had a different take on who the best character in the game is, placing Leonardo in the top slot of the tier list named “Only Took 2 Days to Break The Game.” “I thought this character would be the best, I just thought it would take more time… I think Leonardo is the best character in the game, and I don’t think it’s close,” he said about him being overpowered, Time starts 25:04 for mobile users A continuing theme is that Patrick is one of, if not the, worst characters in the game. “Patrick has, like, one good move,” Coney said after placing him as the lowest-ranked character in all of All-Star Brawl, Smash Ultimate commentator Max Ketchum differed from Armada’s view and put Oblina in his top “Broken” tier for All-Star Brawl, saying: “Oblina is the best character in the game by a noticeable margin.” Late night tier list Oblina is the best character in the game by a noticeable margin imo, I feel like I’m never seeing her in tourneys so it’s hard for people to see it rn. Please don’t nerf her though LMFAOOOO Gonna do a big vid on my thoughts on the game when I get home pic.twitter.com/8hdpVQXOaK — EMG Max Ketchum @ Pinnacle (@MaxKetchum_) October 10, 2021 Max also has Patrick in the bottom slot of his tier-list. Hopefully the pink starfish gets buffed in the near future.

  • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl may add highly-requested feature after launch – Dexerto

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl may add highly-requested feature after launch LudocityNickelodeon All-Star Brawl could add a huge feature after launch, according to a new interview with developer Lucocity’s CEO. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl looks like the dream platform fighting game for nineties kids, with Spongebob and Patrick squaring off against the likes of Aang and Reptar in Smash Bros-style combat, but there’s one thing fans have been curious about – why is everyone so quiet? Despite such a recognizable cast of characters, you won’t hear any of them speak. Sure, you’ll get to see them slap each other silly, but there are no voice lines for the characters – but that could change, according to a Game Informer interview with Ludocity CEO Joel Nyström. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl could add character voices post-launch In the interview, Nyström explains that voices aren’t included due to the team’s focus on gameplay – at least for now. “Our focus was on creating the best possible gameplay experience for core brawling fans and Nickelodeon fans around the globe. It is not as straightforward to do as one might think, and as we continue to build the Nick All-Star Brawl franchise, we will be reviewing all options, which may include adding VO down the road.” That’s not a guarantee, then, but it’s an exciting prospect for fans of the characters involved. That’s not the only post-launch content confirmed, though. As revealed in the same interview, there will be 20 characters in the roster at launch, and two confirmed as additions after the game is out. Nyström says that “additional DLC characters will be revealed after that,” so expect the brawler to keep going. Since the episode airew, it has become one of the more popular Spongebob memes from the show — which is saying something. Nickelodeon has set the bar high with this first skin for All-Star Brawl, and considering they’ve also announced other post-launch content like characters and potential voice-acting, there will be tons of reason to keep returning to the game.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl leaks reveal third Avatar character joining roster NickelodeonA new leak shows Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, the Smash Bros-inspired fighting game, is adding a third Avatar character in Toph, the blind earth bender. The leaks show Toph, the earth bender from the Avatar series, will be joining the roster of fighters. There are still two other fighters that are blurred out in the leaks, and some believe one of them could be the grumpy orange cat Garfield, which Nickelodeon owns the rights to. For now, these leaks are pure speculation, but with the release date fast approaching we could be due for news on the final roster spots any day now.

Also, there is always the chance the game will receive characters post-launch, increasing the overall size of the roster. Although Brawl’s roster is one-fourth the size, it has one thing Smash will never have: Spongebob.

  • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl drops to ZERO viewers after devs roasted Smash Ultimate – Dexerto

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl drops to ZERO viewers after devs roasted Smash Ultimate NickelodeonNickelodeon All-Star Brawl has hit its lowest possible point on Twitch, despite promises to take its competitive scene far more seriously than rival Smash Ultimate. Platform fighter Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl was released in early October with plans to become a viable competitive alternative to Nintendo’s brawler Super Smash Bros. With a similar percentage-based knockback system and Melee-like mechanics, the Nickelodeon game was well-received at first. The devs also made it a point that, unlike Nintendo, they’d openly communicate with fans. However, now that time has passed and the honeymoon phase gamers had with it is over, the hype seems to be all dried up, leaving the devs with egg on their face. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl hits zero Twitch viewers As of December 29, there have been points where there are literally zero people streaming the game on Twitch, resulting, obviously, in no viewers. In October, the game was hitting nearly 120,000 viewers, but by early November, the game’s viewership had dipped to the single digits. Amusingly, this unfortunate milestone comes after the developers roasted Nintendo before the game was released. “We have the perspective of both the developer and the gamer, because we played a lot of Smash games in the past, and we know how it feels to not be listened to by the developer,” Markus Villalobos said in an interview with Melee pro Juan ‘Hungrybox’ Debiedma. While it’s unlikely that that game can bounce back, it will be interesting to see what the fate of another upcoming Smash-like title, Warner Bros’ ‘MultiVersus,’ will be when it releases, and if it can potentially fair better than Nickelodeon’s fighter.

Upon announcing the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl sequel, developers teased an all-new campaign mode. Early details about the title confirmed well over a dozen playable characters, as the roster’s packed with the likes of SpongeBob, Squidward, Jimmy Neutron, and many more. Developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs didn’t have much to say about the story mode at the time. However, new information is surfacing as All-Star Brawl 2’s release draws near. In fact, the latest trailer offers a first look at what the all-new campaign mode will have on offer at release. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2’s campaign mode is a roguelike Publisher GameMill Entertainment has unleashed a brand-new trailer for Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, which showcases a glimpse at the story mode. • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl devs respond to massive character leaks – Dexerto

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl devs respond to massive character leaks NickelodeonNickelodeon All-Star Brawl is set to compete against the most fierce fighting games around, but data miners may already let players in on a few characters coming to battle it out early. The fighting game genre has seen many competitive franchises duke it out to be named top dog. Tekken came to an end years ago but giants like Super Smash Bros are still going strong in the scene. With thrilling and outlandish characters arriving in the game, the longevity of its gameplay has kept players returning in droves. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl has a ridiculously fun roster of characters already, but data-mined leaks may just have been confirmed some vibrant additions. Devs seemingly confirm roster leaks While most of the launch roster has been confirmed already, it seems the developers have got plenty more in store as the game gains traction. Keen-eyed fans of Nickelodeon will have noticed iconic characters like Tommy Pickles (Rugrats) or Mr. Krabs (Spongebob Squarepants) are missing from the game at the time of writing. Fret not because the discovery of their voice lines has seemingly been confirmed by the developers themselves. “Said there was gonna be dataminers, was told this wasn’t gonna be an issue, and yet here we are,” lead dev Thaddeus Crews said on Discord. “And do not give those give those voice lines much thought. They’re just covering bases and not be-all-end-all confirmations of what can and can’t happen.” While leaks can be a tricky situation for any developer, it seems they have taken the news lightly, as their custom Spongebob emoticons would indicate. It is unknown when these characters will arrive in-game, but the wait will surely be worth it. Fans have already suggested some of their personal picks for the future. Ned Bigby would certainly know how to survive the fight. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl is out now and we’ve got everything you need to know to get started.

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 insider hints at details about 7 new fighters Nickelodeon, GameMill EntertainmentAn industry insider has shared new details about seven fighters who are allegedly coming to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2. Following months of leaks and rumors, a sequel to Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 will launch later this year. The new title will feature cartoon combatants from the original game and introduce a few new faces, including Squidward (regular and Handsome), Jimmy Neutron, and TMNT’s Raphael. Interestingly, these names confirmed that previous rumors were indeed correct. Now another leak hints at what could be some pretty interesting additions to the cast of playable characters. Details about 7 new Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 fighters leaked PapaGenos, the YouTuber who correctly outed details about Jimmy Neutron and Squidward, has teased what they claim to be the rest of All-Star Brawl 2’s roster. Apparently, the information stems from the same source who informed the YouTuber about the first game’s Rocko DLC. Unwilling to spoil the pre-release fun, however, PapaGenos says he isn’t going to expose the specifics. But the content creator did claim the previously leaked El Tigre will indeed feature in the sequel. One of the remaining six combatants includes a SpongeBob character. Two more come from a brand already represented in the All-Star Brawl universe, with PapaGenos saying one is especially “WTF tier.” Yet another fighter will also be derived from a series that’s already represented. The sixth character comes from an as-yet-unrepresented IP (not El Tigre). And the last unnamed combatant is someone the YouTuber hasn’t teased. Regardless of what its roster looks like, Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 comes to Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms on an unspecified date later this year.

Developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs have built up anticipation by sharing the roster of playable fighters, which includes everyone from Avatar’s Aang and Korra to SpongeBob Squidward of SpongeBob SquarePants fame. • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 seemingly confirmed via El Tigre leak – Dexerto

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 seemingly confirmed via El Tigre leak NickelodeonHints about El Tigre’s return to the spotlight seemingly confirm that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is in development. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl hits store shelves for PC and consoles in late 2021, inviting players to pit their favorite cartoon characters against one another in a crossover brawler. A roster of 20 playable characters launched with the title, featuring the likes of Danny Phantom, SpongeBob, Reptar, and Garfield. DLC releases helped round at the lineup, but the post-launch support didn’t last for very long. Fortunately, a recent leak suggests the fighter will eventually receive a second lease on life. The details surfaced courtesy of box art leak for the supposed Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl sequel. Now, further proof of the project’s existence has surfaced online. El Tigre leak may confirm Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 On July 4, a Twitter user shared (via ResetEra) a Reddit post featuring a screenshot of Nickelodeon character El Tigre fighting Garfield. The shot certainly looks like it’s from the All-Star Brawl school of design. What’s more, El Tigre show creator Jorge R. Guiterrez responded to the tweet as follows: “Guess who’s back?” In a follow-up post, Guiterrez clarified that he doesn’t work for Nickelodeon and, thus, has “nothing to do with this video game.” Fans in the thread think it’s the creator saving face because the Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl sequel has yet to be officially unveiled. Despite his second tweet, Guiterrez did respond with “100%” several hours later when a fan asked if El Tigre’s voice actor, Alanna Ubach, will reprise their role for the character in-game. Should Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 actually see the light of day, El Tigre won’t be the only new addition. The aforementioned box art leak hinted at Jimmy Neutron, TMNT’s Raphael, Squidward, and Vlad Plasmius joining the cast of playable characters. Squidward and Vlad appeared in datamine leaks, but never entered the fray in the original game.

  • Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 possibly leaked in box art image – Dexerto

Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 possibly leaked in box art image GameMill EntertainmentLeaked box art imagery seems to confirm that Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 is indeed in the works. In conjunction with GameMill Entertainment, developers Ludosity and Fair Play Labs released Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl on PC and consoles in late 2021. The roster featured 20 iconic characters at launch, including SpongeBob, Reptar, Danny Phantom, and even Helga Pataki of Hey Arnold! fame. Unfortunately, support for the title didn’t last for very long, with the developers only releasing one DLC pack. The add-on notably featured Hugh Neutron (Jimmy’s dad), Rocko, and Jenny from My Life as a Teenage Robot. But long-running rumors suggest the Nickelodeon-themed crossover fighter will eventually get a new lease on life. It seems those rumors will soon be proven correct, too. Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 may have just leaked YouTuber PapaGenos previously shared premature details about the Rocko DLC that later came to fruition. The content creator said such information came courtesy of a trusted source. That same source has reportedly confirmed that a second Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl game is in the works. Further supporting the leak is an image showcasing the sequel’s supposed box art. PapaGenos claims his source previously said Jimmy Neutron and Danny Phantom’s Vlad Plasmius would appear as playable characters in the new entry. Interestingly, the artwork featured in the video below (at the 3:18 mark) shows a glimpse of both Jimmy and Vlad: A closer look at the leaked cover art suggests TMNT’s Raphael will also make his All-Star Brawl debut. And, as PapaGenos points out, zooming in to the area below Jimmy reveals the top of someone’s head – that someone appears to be none other than Squidward Tentacles. SpongeBob’s grumpy neighbor was previously featured in datamined details for the original All-Star Brawl. It appears he’ll finally get to face off against Patrick and SpongeBob in Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2, should this new leak prove trustworthy. At the time of writing, GameMill and its partners have yet to so much as tease a sequel for the crossover fighting game.

  • Niantic trolls Pokemon Go players wanting Kecleon in The Bug Out event – Dexerto

Niantic trolls Pokemon Go players wanting Kecleon in The Bug Out event Pokemon Go players feel like they got trolled after Niantic teased a “certain unknown Pokemon” for the Bug Out event – and it wasn’t Kecleon. With the Summer of Go nearing its end, Niantic are giving players a few more opportunities for hard-to-come-by ‘mons while paving the way for completely new encounters, like Mega Scizor Raids and Vikavolt. A bug-centric celebration is about to go off in Pokemon Go, and it’s reminded some players that we still haven’t gotten Kecleon after years of people wanting him in the game. Admittedly, while Kecleon isn’t a bug-type, Niantic’s latest public post had some people fooled for a minute that it was finally coming in PoGo – but that’s not the case. Kecleon in Pokemon Go? On August 8, Niantic had a bit of fun when reminding trainers of the Bug Out prizes and which creatures they would soon be able to encounter across the globe. “Pansage and a certain unknown Pokemon will be appearing globally in the wild and in raids during Ultra Unlock: Bug Out!” they said. That bit about the “unknown Pokemon” immediately threw trainers for a loop who thought it was meant to usher in the Color Changing Pokemon’s long-awaited entry to the AR title. Unfortunately, a closer look at the post immediately shows what the devs were talking about in the first place with a brand new ‘Unown’ Pokemon variation ‘T’ coming to PoGo. Niantic has said before that they want to release Kecleon at some point in the future, but are holding out for a proper introduction to the world of augmented reality. “Kecleon has unique properties in the main series games, abilities that no other Pokémon shares so we want to make sure we do right by its original design when incorporating it into augmented reality,” Pokémon Go’s Director of Global Product Marketing Michael Steranka told TRG. So it still might be a while until we get Kecleon in Pokemon Go, but at least the dev team has the elusive ‘mon on their radar.

  • Niantic opens up about possibility of Pikmin & Pokemon Go crossover – Dexerto

Niantic opens up about possibility of Pikmin & Pokemon Go crossover NianticNiantic, opened up about a possibility of a Pikmin and Pokemon Go crossover and the answer might not be well-liked. With a unique place in the franchise, Niantic’s augment-reality catcher, Pokemon Go, has a special place in many fans’ hearts. The same can be said about the Pikmin. With its initial release on October 26, 2001, the strategy and puzzle video game series that started on the GameCube has had plenty of fans hooked ever since. This was all accentuated when Niantic released a mobile version of it. But what if these two games crossed over with each other? Niantic opens up about possibility of Pikmin Pokemon Go crossover Nintendo games collaborating is nothing out of the ordinary. With the likes of the Super Smash Bros. series, Mario Kart 8 bringing on characters from both Animal Crossing, Zelda, and others, and many more, fans always appreciate a good crossover. So why not a Pikmin and Pokemon Go one? In an interview with Gamespot, Live Games Director at Niantic, Michael Steranka, was asked about a possible “cross-pollination” between the two games in the future to which he responded, “As of right now, that’s not something we’re currently exploring.” This was prompted due to the fact that Pokemon Go’s upcoming Community Day Classic sarees a day with Pikmin Bloom’s Community Day. Steranka later elaborated that “Fortunately Pikmin Bloom plays very nicely with Pokemon Go on Community Days,” adding that they (Niantic) “don’t want a player to have to decide which game they’re playing,” Although a Pikmin and Pokemon Go crossover doesn’t seem to be in the works, one thing’s for certain, fans of both of the franchises could appreciate one.

  • Niantic responds to Pokemon Go boycott after #HearUsNiantic trends – Dexerto

Niantic responds to Pokemon Go boycott after #HearUsNiantic trends NianticNiantic has issued a response to the Pokemon Go community’s concerns over gameplay changes after thousands of fans got #HearUsNiantic trending on Twitter. After weeks of voicing their concerns over changes to Exploration Bonuses, the rift between the Pokemon Go community and developers Niantic reached boiling point on August 5, when players took part in a boycott known as ‘Pokemon NO Day‘. The issue many players have is that features introduced in response to the global health crisis in 2020 are now being reverted. As well as increasing safety, the community has argued that the features improved quality of life and made the game more accessible for disabled players. Niantic explained their decision by stating that they wanted players to get back to “exploration in the real world” like when the game first launched, but the changes have been met by almost universal negativity, from casual players to well-known influencers. Now, after weeks of silence, Niantic have issued an official response to the boycotts. In a blog post titled ‘A response to our Pokemon Go community’, the company said they were “humbled” by the feedback from players and promised to take it into consideration. “We have heard your feedback about one change in particular – that of the PokéStop and Gym interaction distance,” they wrote. “To address the concerns you have raised, we are taking the following actions. “We are assembling an internal cross-functional team to develop proposals designed to preserve our mission of inspiring people to explore the world together, while also addressing specific concerns that have been raised regarding interaction distance.” Niantic promised to “share the findings” of this task force by the next seasonal update, which takes place on September 1, 2021. They also confirmed that they will be reaching out to community leaders to “join us in this dialogue” over the coming days. While Niantic haven’t confirmed whether they will go back on their decision to end the Exploration Bonuses, many in the Pokemon Go community are cautiously optimistic to finally have a response from the company. I know this is not exactly the end result we wanted but we requested a response by EOD Monday and got it same day… Baby steps in the marathon of making #pokemongo great is our mission. Proud of everyone who participated in getting hear constructively. You rock. — The Trainer Club (@thetrainerclubb) August 6, 2021 “I know this is not exactly the end result we wanted but we requested a response by EOD Monday and got it the same day,” wrote the popular Trainer Club on Twitter. “Baby steps in the marathon of making Pokemon Go great is our mission.” Elsewhere, Joe Merrick, the founder of Serebii, wrote: “Let’s hope that this actually provides results and isn’t just a means to placate us for a month.” In case you didn’t see, Niantic put a response out to the GO Community’s message. It’s acknowledged but no change yet, just promises of a “”taskforce””. Let’s hope that this actually provides results and isn’t just a means to placate us for a monthhttps://t.co/fxqGohkEaq — Joe Merrick (@JoeMerrick) August 6, 2021 Trainers will simply have to wait to find out whether or not Niantic will implement the changes they’ve been asking for. Until then, keep up to date with the latest news on our Pokemon Go home page.

  • Niantic announces Peridot release date and pre-registration – Dexerto

Niantic announces Peridot release date and pre-registration NianticNiantic has announced the official release date for the new creature-catching game, Peridot. The mobile app is similar to Pokemon Go, encouraging outdoor and community engagement. Niantic, best known for their mobile game Pokemon Go, has been working on a new project since the spring of 2022. Peridot offers a similar experience to Pokemon Go, allowing players to catch adorable, brightly-colored creatures when out exploring their local parks and urban areas. However, unlike Pokemon Go’s focus on catching every newly debuted species, Peridot players will be able to breed their creatures to obtain special species. Currently, the mechanics of the new game have been kept largely secret, but it appears more information could be on the horizon. After months without updates, an official release date has been announced for Peridot, as well as the ability to pre-register for the mobile app game. Niantic’s game Peridot will release this spring According to a Twitter update on the official Peridot account, the game will release on May 9, 2023, for Android and iOS. The announcement also came with a new trailer on the Peridot YouTube channel. Those interested in giving Niantic’s new project a try can pre-register starting today. With the struggles Niantic has faced over changes in Pokemon Go, including alterations to gameplay, microtransactions prices, and event expectations, some fans may be hesitant to get involved in another free-to-play game by the developer. Despite this, Peridot looks like a great fit for those who enjoy the concepts of Pokemon Go but would like a different take on the creatures that can be gathered up. Hopefully, more information about mechanics, events, gameplay, and other features will become available as the launch date gets closer. In the meantime, those interested in giving the new title a go will want to pre-register to jump in as soon as possible after release.

  • NHL 24 developers talk gameplay changes, new engine, future of GM Connected – Dexerto

NHL 24 developers talk gameplay changes, new engine, future of GM Connected Electronic ArtsAfter a less-than-stellar release in NHL 23, EA Sports is set to shake things up with NHL 24. Dexerto spoke with two of the EA Sports NHL developers on what the community can expect from this year’s game. Year 2 of EA Sports NHL on the Frostbite engine did not go well. NHL 23 received generally unfavorable reviews, amidst strategy glitches and very few additions to the title. After a rough launch to NHL 23, EA Sports will look to move in the right direction with changes to Hockey Ultimate Team and the gameplay — and we received exclusive insight on what the community can expect. We spoke with EA NHL Senior Creative Director Mike Englehart and NHL Senior Producer Chris Haluke to talk about the new features in gameplay, HUT, and the future of modes like World of CHEL and the old GM Connected. Gameplay gets major overhaul with Exhaust Engine The major change to the gameplay experience in NHL will come by way of the Exhaust Engine. Per the NHL team, this addition will revamp how players will attack and bring about a new kind of meta. Simply put, the Exhaust Engine rewards for teams for extended offensive shifts in the zone. Attacking teams will receive subtle boosts for sustained attacks, while defending teams will have to navigate fatigue. Community members will be able to see the energy levels of all players on the screen via a stamina bar. NHL Senior Creative Director Mike Englehart believes that these changes will bring a much-needed reset to the franchise. “We’ve tried to spend some time this year connecting with the community and also trying to look at opportunities in the game. Like, where can we refresh this thing? Where can we bring back some life and bring a new experience? The product hadn’t changed gameplay-wise, I don’t think substantially in a while,” Englehart told Dexerto. Offensive teams can build up a Sustained Pressure meter — one that’s visible on the ice — through puck possession, shots, and hits in the offensive zone. Those that can build up enough pressure on offense can receive what’s known as an “Adrenaline Effect,” which boosts passing speed and accuracy for up to 30 seconds. Defending teams, meanwhile, will get the Pinned Effect. This effect negatively impacts skating, but can be wiped away with a puck clear that lasts for five seconds. Another layer to the Exhaust Engine to goaltender fatigue. Goalies will get tired during lengthy shifts and prolonged work, but will, per Englehart, “have their moments in the spotlight” with over 50 new desperation saves animations. With these additions, the NHL team promises that shot danger will be increased in many different situations and that gameplay will be more balanced. “I feel pretty confident that we have a balanced gameplay experience that more so is going to bring you back because the outcomes that you see during the game are going to create some compulsion to come back and see something different the next game,” Engelhart said. Crossplay gets an expansion for NHL 24 Last year, the EA NHL team introduced crossplay to the franchise, but slow-walked some functionality to it. For NHL 24, individuals in World of CHEL will be able to invite friends to games and add players to clubs from other platforms. On the expansion, Englehart stated that because the NHL team only had so many months of production, it didn’t make sense to add all the components of crossplay into the title last year. “We would have had to put all our resources on one thing and so it didn’t make sense to chase it. Last year when we launched, we said, okay, we’ll start with cross-platform matchmaking…and then the promise last year was we finish off the cycle this year, which we’ve done.” However, one thing to note about crossplay is that a HUT cross-economy system will not be in NHL 24. Englehart told Dexerto that it’s something that the team continues to look into. “It’s definitely something we’re looking at. With the cross-play initiative in general the product is to get everything humming together and leaderboards, economies. So it’s 100% on our radar.” A look at HUT Moments and CHEL additions Another new feature added to NHL 24 is HUT Moments, which will task individuals to re-create classic moments from NHL history. While the franchise did have something similar to this in the PS3/Xbox 360 days with Live Moments, NHL Senior Producer Chris Haluke stated that this installment of Moments will be different. “It’s not like we’re just bringing something back that existed years ago. It’s like we wanted to reimagine it. I think that’s a really important factor with anything that we’re doing, quite frankly, as we look to the future. It’s not just re-make something. It’s like we want to reimagine it for what [today] or the future actually want and need.” When asked about whether new Moments will be added, Englehart said, “Yeah. There’s definitely plans with the live team.” He added, “The idea is to have the system be something that we can react to and bring events that happen in recent times throughout the season into the game for people to play because I think it’s something people are looking for and I think it’s a great part of the future.” Another notable change comes to CHEL. Bags with random customization options are gone, as players can now acquire currency through played games and add specific vanity items to the collection. NHL 24 World of CHEL will also feature free and premium Battle Passes, which will yield additional rewards. On the decision to allow players to unlock items that they want, Englehart harkened back to an instance in which he heard about a Ducks fan that just wanted a Ducks hat, but could never get one in a bag. “You’re opening bag after bag after bag. I think where we are in the market is people just want rewards with certainty. You don’t go to a clothing store and buy a mystery bag and go home and go, ‘Wow, great, I didn’t want any of this stuff.’ So if you’re going to spend the time, let’s let people pick what they want.” Most items acquired in NHL 24 will now transfer over to subsequent titles. The future of GM Connected and online Career It’s been almost a decade since online franchise — otherwise known as GM Connected at the time — was in a current-gen NHL game. When asked, Englehart stated that while neither online GM or career will be in the game, the team does continue to look into re-adding online GM to the franchise. “Chris [Haluke] and I are chasing everything from a community wish list standpoint with really close level aggression. We really are spending a lot of time this year connecting with what the community wants…we know there’s big ticket items on there, and I just tell you we’re talking about that stuff. That’s all I can say at this point. But it’s again, [it’s] on our radar.” NHL 24 will be released on October 6 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

  • NHL 23 review – A glorified, expensive patch – Dexerto

NHL 23 review – A glorified, expensive patch EA SPORTSEA SPORTS NHL 23 is just NHL 22 with a couple of new additions that don’t make it worth your money if you own last year’s entry. In fact, it’s almost insulting that the game is full-priced. Big budget sequels roll around regularly in gaming, aiming to build on foundational learnings from what came before and be bigger, better, and more bombastic. Throughout history, sports games have been a bit of an exception to this rule being yearly releases, with less than a year to overhaul and fix things for the next game. With NHL 23, though, enough is enough. The NHL series may not be EA’s most popular, but it does have some of the best gameplay going for it and has for several years now. Sadly, resting on its laurels has left that same gameplay feeling stale. The few upgrades to the core moment-to-moment action that the series has received in NHL 23 simply aren’t robust or do enough to get me excited. NHL 23: Key Details Developer: EA Vancouver – Price: $59.99/£49.99 – Release Date: October 14, 2022 – Platforms: PlayStation, Xbox, PC – NHL 23 trailer Minimal enhancements and chipped ice Upon loading up NHL 23 for the first time, you’ll be greeted with a menu listing everything that’s “new” to this year’s installment and experienced players will immediately feel underwhelmed. The big addition to on-ice gameplay this year is in the form of “last chance” moves, which allow players to make wildly desperate plays just like they do in real life. Additionally, NHL 23 features some new animations including highlight reel saves that should feel a lot bigger than how the game’s antiquated broadcast showcases them. I remember playing one game where the opposing team’s goalie made a glove save that legitimately made me say “wow.” The thing is, it was a highlight reel save that didn’t get a highlight. No replay. No chance to relive the epic moment from another angle. Nothing. NHL 23 is basically the same broadcast package as NHL 22 and NHL 21. Miraculously, somehow, someway, I feel like the presentation of the broadcast has gotten seriously worse over the years and its repetitiveness just amplifies these concerns. The same commentary, basically the same gameplay, everything. It’s like playing on ice that hasn’t had a Zamboni on it in years. A new Stanley Cup celebration and female players is just icing on a stale cake that’s been left in the sun. Not such an X-Factor After the last chance puck movement screen, EA SPORTS hypes up the addition of two new X-Factors – special player attributes that give them special skills such as unique shots. In my review of NHL 22 last year, I mentioned how NHL 2004 had implemented something similar to X-Factors many years ago such as having a hammer next to a player’s name if they are a big hitter. While X-Factors are certainly an enhanced version of NHL 2004’s variant, I didn’t see them as that big of a deal when they were reintroduced in NHL 22 and I feel even more underwhelmed in NHL 23. This time around, fans are given a whopping extra two X-Factors! Whoo! This means we now gain access to co-cover star Trevor Zegras’ ‘Skilled Up’ which lets the player perform lacrosse-style goals and Sarah Nurse’s ‘Relentless’ which increases one’s ability to shoot and pass while off-balance. These are incredibly minor additions and the fact they’re celebrated as second on the “what’s new” screen is very telling. Limited customization in Franchise NHL 23 also features a “historic” level of customization in franchise mode, letting players change the number of teams in the NHL, playoff format, and more. But that customization is limited. While NBA 2K has let players change a season’s length to any number of games for ages now, NHL is only just doing this and with minimal offerings. For instance, while I could select a variety of overtime formats, I couldn’t select five minutes of 3-on-3 exclusively. It had to be followed by a shootout. As someone who isn’t a fan of the shootout, why couldn’t I remove it? I also couldn’t replace teams in the league. I tried to make a league with just 12 teams, but on PS5, for whatever reason, with the exception of my user-controlled team, the rest were locked in place. Another time when I wanted a league with 40 teams, it pulled an assortment of European clubs into the NHL and I couldn’t replace them either. I’m not sure if this was a bug or not, but it really put a damper on the new franchise mode’s custom options. Aside from this, at least I could select what playoff format I wanted for every single round. A most-welcome addition that really had no reason to ever take this long to be implemented. NHL 23 misses the playoffs At the end of the day, NHL 23 left me frustrated. The one good thing I have to say about this year’s version is the crowd noise. It’s the best it’s ever been, minus an occasional whistling sound that legitimately made me think there was a stoppage in play. Everything else is either minor or, like crossplay, feels long overdue given the current gaming landscape. At some point, EA is going to need to change how it approaches this series. I’d honestly value everything “new” in this game at a generous total of $10. Owners of NHL 22 should really only have to pay that much for this game. Alas, it’s full-price. The Verdict – 6/10 If you’re new to the EA SPORTS NHL series, then you’ll have fun with this, there is no denying that. There is a lot of joy to be had if you haven’t touched the series in years, but veteran players will feel significantly shortchanged by this year’s title. Reviewed on PS5

  • NHL 21 review: A series skating on thin ice – Dexerto

NHL 21 review: A series skating on thin ice EA SPORTSEA’s flagship ice hockey game is back once again with NHL 21 and while there are a handful of overhauls to Be A Pro Mode, the wait for groundbreaking updates looks to be rolling on for another year. If you’ve played any NHL game in the past five years, you’ve probably accustomed to the controls, presentation, and general style of the game. NHL 21 isn’t much different, offering up more of the same from what you’ve come to expect, with very little in the way of franchise-altering changes. However, for new players, it serves up one of the best experiences to be had in a sports game. NHL 21 Review Copy: NHL 21 (PS4) – Price: $59.88 – on Amazon – Developer: EA SPORTS – Release date: October 16 – Platforms: Xbox One, PS4 – Gameplay Despite very few noticeable changes from previous entries in this generation, NHL 21 does manage to improve upon what already works. There are more dekes at the player’s disposal, better AI, and improved goalie mechanics this time around, which do make the game feel better. They just do little to push the game fully forward. To be frank, it doesn’t really deliver a true evolution for the series, nor does it offer anything to be considered revolutionary. It’s not necessarily expected that yearly sports titles reinvent the wheel every 12 months, but to go back in time, look at NHL 2005 from 16 years ago. NHL 2005 brought in “Open Ice Control” which let players in possession of the puck take control of another teammate to set up for breakaway passes. Even though it may have been overpowered, it was a clear sign that EA wanted to change up the formula. Nothing as drastic exists in NHL 21. It just feels like a carbon copy of the previous title with some slight improvements that only the most hardcore of players will notice. Perhaps this is because the developers feel comfortable with what it has going for it. While it works, it’s arguably gotten stale. Skating, passing, hitting, and shooting feels tiresome and remains a tad too arcadey. Hockey is perhaps the most arcadey of all sports (what with its fighting and brutality), so it’s no surprise that it’s translated well to video game form for all these years. But, in a world where 2K gets its NBA series to feel like a genuine simulation, NHL still finds itself playing a bit offside when it comes to being a legitimate recreation of the sport with its HUT Rush and outdoor arenas. Going into next-gen, it would be wise to go back to the drawing board and implement significant changes to core gameplay mechanics. They likely will at some point, but we still don’t have a coach’s challenge for some reason. It’s far too easy to enter through the neutral zone. These issues have plagued the series for too long. Be A Pro While the gameplay brings nothing really new, the Be A Pro mode has received the most attention and is by far the standout of the year – similar to that of UFC, which focused heavily on the adventure and customization elements. EA have morphed Be A Pro into more of a journey. Talking to the media, expectations from teammates and coaches – there is quite a lot to unpack. Even though the mode doesn’t have a set story like we’ve seen in Madden and FIFA in the past, it instead tailors the experience to a pro’s whole career beginning with a rookie season. Leveling up, gaining skill points, and selecting specific dialogues tree make the mode feel like an RPG at times. Saying the right things to certain teammates may trigger events where a set of tasks need to be accomplished such as getting three assists in a game. You can choose to simulate a season leading up to these larger events, which lets players decide how much of an 82-game season they want to play without missing out on any key career moments. I often found myself simulating one or two periods of big games not part of these larger event matches before taking the reins to speed up what could have potentially been a slow, tiresome mode. Sadly, there is a lot of repetition in Be A Pro that significantly breaks the immersion. There is also a serious lack of consequences for failing a task. Again, this mode feels like something that could have been released a few years ago. It’s a nice, welcomed inclusion. But for some people it might not warrant the purchase of a new game if they bought NHL 20. Once more, the revamped Be A Pro gives something new for EA to build upon and perfect, but it alone isn’t enough to recommend NHL 21 to anyone familiar with the last few installments. NHL 21 review | Verdict: 6.5/10 Really, your enjoyment of NHL 21 will ultimately come down to whether or not you played NHL 20, 19, or 18 (possibly even farther back). Be A Pro would work as a glorified $15 DLC to last year’s game, but not for the full price of admission. If you’re new to these games or haven’t played in a few years, then you will probably have a lot of fun, because it is still fun. But it’s also extremely stale. Serious changes need to be made to gameplay going forward. Until then, the series is skating on very thin ice. Reviewed on PlayStation 4

  • NFT FPS game coming from Halo & CoD devs according to insider – Dexerto

NFT FPS game coming from Halo & CoD devs according to insider PixabayWith all the popularity around NFTs and the internet going crazy over them, it appears that a new video game is looking to get into the action in the form of a AAA FPS title designed around the craze. As more and more influencers get involved in the crypto movement and NFTs become more mainstream, it was only a matter of time before video games entered the fray. According to generally reliable insider and leaker Tom Henderson, who has had multiple correct video game scoops in the past, an NFT-based game is scheduled to release in 2023. Remember to take all these rumors with a grain of salt as anything can change, but this game could be one to be on the lookout for leading into the new year. – Items that you successfully extract can be sold in the games marketplace for the games own cryptocurrency (that you can then trade for other crypto/money if you wanted). – The game also has a map creator, where people can create their own unique EFT-like maps.— Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) November 8, 2021 Free-to-play NFT first-person shooter leaked Tom Henderson states that the game will be similar to Escape from Tarkov despite being a “competitive” FPS. Basically, this means players will join a map, loot weapons, items, and gear and then get out with all their new stuff. The unique part is that items you get can be sold in the game’s marketplace for the game’s own cryptocurrency that you can then trade for real-world money or other forms of crypto. Additionally, the game will feature a map editor and designing maps is highly rewarding because players will get more currency when their map is played. Although the game will be free-to-play, there will be subscription options too. With players having the ability to subscribe to the game for a monthly free of $10-$20, which will give players staking rewards, NFT drops, the ability to organize tournaments, and more. — Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) November 8, 2021 Call of Duty & Halo devs working on NFT FPS Henderson also explained how some “top FPS influencers” are being advised on the title. While he didn’t name any names, the developers should make potential fans very excited. Though the studio behind the game wasn’t confirmed, Henderson noted that former Halo, CoD and The Division developers are said to be working on it. The supposed plan for the game is for it to be free-to-play with some subscription options for $10 and $20 a month which will give players access to new rewards, drops, tournaments and other goodies. So essentially, the game is Escape From Tarkov with competitive elements, a map creator, and the ability to make money from extracting items successfully. The rarer and better the item = the more crypto you can sell and money you can make. — Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) November 8, 2021 In a concluding tweet, Henderson wrote, “essentially, the game is Escape From Tarkov with competitive elements, a map creator, and the ability to make money from extracting items successfully. The rarer and better the item = the more crypto you can sell and money you can make.” With the game expected to be announced in the coming months, fans should keep their eyes open for a big reveal. Until then, all we can do is imagine and hope that another big FPS enters the fray.

  • NFT and blockchain gaming has raised over $2 billion in 2022, report says – Dexerto

NFT and blockchain gaming has raised over $2 billion in 2022, report says Unsplash: Andrey MetelevA new financial report shows that despite the crypto and NFT market crash companies are not deterred from investing in the technology in the gaming space and have spent billions in investments. Cryptocurrency and NFTs became household names 2021 as the marketplace for both exploded in value with the rise of blockchain technology. While tons of companies scrambled to figure out how to incorporate blockchain technology and cash in, including video game publishers, in May 2022, the entire market for crypto and NFTs completely collapsed. Despite the market has not picked up since the crash, investments into the gaming space for NFT and blockchain technology-based games continue to soar. Report shows billions invested in NFT gaming The new report comes from DrakeStar, a global technology investment bank, and revealed just how much NFT and blockchain companies have raised in the first half of 2022. “More than $2.2 billion was raised by private blockchain & NFT gaming companies with over half of total amount raised by early-stage companies.” Of the staggering amount, here the following companies made the largest investments: Animoca Brands, Shima Capital, and FTX. The report also noted that the $2.2 billion amount represented half of all financing deals in the gaming space. Clearly, the massive crash of the NFT and crypto market hasn’t deterred big companies from putting enormous investments into the technology within the gaming space. How their investments will shake out will interesting to monitor.

NFT console developers Polium deny they copied GameCube assets Polium OneNFT console developers Polium have faced backlash from the community with people accusing them of copying the GameCube’s iconic logo. They deny the claims but will rebrand while also deflecting other criticisms of the Web3 service. Polium, a niche console developer, recently announced their brand new game console: The Polium One. The console is marketed to handle all sorts of Cryptoverse gaming, allowing users to handle NFTs more efficiently. But very soon after their official reveal, members of the community immediately attacked the company — claiming theft and piracy. The biggest, most widely vocalized claim is that the Polium Logo completely copied the Nintendo GameCube’s. The uncanny resemblance wasn’t lost on the internet and the developers soon addressed it. “We did not copy the Nintendo GameCube logo. There are multiple companies that are using a similar logo. But we will illustrate a new logo that is original,” they said. But on top of the logo plagiarism — people claim stolen art work was used on their website as well. The artwork was swiftly removed without a statement from the developers. The developers have also addressed concerns of its reliance on Web3 technology, a divisive topic in the online space. Those behind Polium One believe they can “execute on the roadmap” and deliver as promised. “The console will have games and exclusive games. We are currently in talks with different Web3 Game Developers and will make some announcements soon. We know that a console can’t be successful without games,” they added. “We have experience in hardware and software. The console will be built and we will execute on the roadmap. This space bashes builders who are building for Web3 to help it expand. We are also building the console for ourselves and will not stop.” 1️⃣ We did not copy the Nintendo’s GameCube logo. They showcase a preemptive game library on their official website. Their biggest selling point prioritizes its strong specs — boasting 4k Ultra HD, 120 FPS cap, a fingertip scanner, and ray tracing. • NFL star Kyler Murray’s new contract prepares for Modern Warfare 2 ‘dropoff’ – Dexerto

NFL star Kyler Murray’s new contract prepares for Modern Warfare 2 ‘dropoff’ EA SPORTSArizona Cardinals Quarterback Kyler Murray signed a new $220 million extension that includes a clause that attempts to curtail his Call of Duty addiction ahead of Modern Warfare 2’s release. Kyler Murray is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL, both as a deadly passer and lightning-quick runner. While he’s becoming a star in the league, he’s also becoming a big name in gaming and the Call of Duty Twitch scene, and signed with FaZe Clan back in April 2021. Now, after he’s signed his gargantuan extension to stay with the Cardinals, users on social media noticed a clause in his contract that might have to do with his dedication to Call of Duty. Kyler Murray’s new contract may have Call of Duty clause tied in After inking the deal on July 25, reporters noticed a clause in the contract that requires Kyler to dedicate four hours of “independent study” per week where Murray cannot be engaged in other activities including “watching television, playing video games, or browsing the internet.” Noting video games in the activities bared could be significant, and social media sleuths did further digging to see if annual Call of Duty releases impacted his performance in the past. It turns out that this could be the case, and why the Cardinals included the clause in the first place. The Washington Post reported a study that found, “In games played before the annual Call of Duty release date over his career, Murray has averaged 22.5 fantasy points per game. In games played after the release date, Murray has averaged 17.4 points per game, a decline of 22.7%.” Rosecitypeach made a visual graph to show CoD releases potentially having a negative impact on his performance. It may seem completely ridiculous, but each year CoD was released, around the exact time the quarterback’s performance did decrease fairly significantly. With Modern Warfare 2 Remastered slated for an October 28 release, it looks like the Cardinals did their due diligence to make sure Kyler won’t get distracted by his performance on Rust or Favela so he can go out and help win some NFL games.

  • NFL player offers to help EA fix Madden 22 problems – Dexerto

NFL player offers to help EA fix Madden 22 problems EA SportsGreen Bay Packers backup quarterback Kurt Benkert offered to help out the Madden 22 dev team in fixing the problems currently hankering the game. On August 7, NFL QB Kurt Benkert fought against the stigma of being an athlete who is also involved in the world of gaming and esports. He offered a defense of gaming being a waste of time, and shared his story of how gaming is a positive part of his life. Now, Kurt is offering his knowledge on football and gaming to the Madden dev team to fix the game he loves. Kurt offers EA help We gave Madden 22 a review score of 6/10, saying it improved in some areas with this year’s edition, but still is held back by some of the same old problems from years past. It’s no secret a lot of people have issues with how the same things keep popping up in Madden year after year. One of them is apparently Benkert, who shared his opinion of the game as well as an offer to help EA with the development process. He said, “please bring me on board to help you fix zones. You should not be able to throw a slant in the dragon concept vs cover 2. It’s not rocket science.” .@EAMaddenNFL plz bring me on board to help you fix zones. You should not be able to throw a slant in the dragon concept vs cover 2. It’s not rocket science. — Kurt Benkert (@KurtBenkert) September 15, 2021 We have covered some of the strange plays that are possible in Madden 22, like running a full 200 yards with one of the oldest quarterbacks in the game, for a touchdown. These types of plays, as well as the systematic problems that Kurt points out, have led many long-time Madden players to frustration with the franchises newest release. Coming from an actual NFL player, his knowledge of both real football as well as gaming could be valuable to EA Sports. Let’s see if the company takes him up on his offer.

  • NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert hits back at “stigma” in gaming – Dexerto

NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert hits back at “stigma” in gaming Twitter / packersKurt Benkert — Twitch partner, member of Ghost Gaming, and NFL quarterback for the Green Bay Packers — hit back at the stigma surrounding gaming, and even credited GameBattles with helping to sharpen his competitive drive as an athlete. Gaming has unquestionably come a long, long way from its earliest days. What was once considered by many to be a hobby reserved for “geeks” or “nerds” is now something that nearly ever child, teenager, and young adult partakes in on a regular basis. A wider cultural appeal has been helped in large part by athletes. Whether its MLB pitcher Trevor May streaming Apex Legends, or Bronny James appearing on the cover of Sports Illustrated decked out in FaZe Clan apparel, the mainstream spotlight on gaming has never been brighter. NFL quarterback Kurt Benkert — also a Twitch partner and content creator for Ghost Gaming — is another pro athlete who puts gaming front-and-center in life. During a press conference with the Packers, Benkert extoled his love of gaming, and hit back at the stigma that often still surrounds it. How competive gaming started for me. S/O to @GameBattlesI’m glad the stigma on gaming has changed https://t.co/fgPvhaNwJY — Kurt Benkert (@KurtBenkert) August 7, 2021 While fielding questions from media reps, Benkert was asked about his connections to esports — specifically, how he first got involved in the world of gaming. “I used to love video games as a kid,” he began, laughing to himself. Benkert explained that during high school, he discovered GameBattles (a site for organizing matches against other like-minded players) and fell in love with the competitive side of gaming: “That’s where it started for me, [as] another way to be competitive outside of football.” While attending college at the University of Virginia, Benkert’s love affair with gaming almost fizzled out. “I didn’t tell anybody about it because everyone looked at it [like] ‘If you played video games, you didn’t care about what else you were doing’,” he confessed. Fortunately, the quarterback believes that the stigma against gaming has largely changed “for the better,” and after a friend convinced him to start streaming on Twitch, the rest is history: “It’s changed my life.” Benkert’s ode to his gaming roots quickly caught steam on social media, with plenty of figures from the gaming community chiming in with their support. James ‘Clayster’ Eubanks, Call of Duty pro for the New York Subliners, responded to a clip of Benkert’s comments with his own seal of approval. Ryan ‘Fwiz’ Wyatt — head of YouTube’s gaming division — was another strong supporter of Benkert’s comments, and voiced his own appreciation for the QB. “Great to hear Kurt breaking the gaming stigma, which is far overdue! Glad he played GameBattles with us OGs!” Even other pro athletes tossed their hats in the ring with Green Bay’s newest quarterback. Fellow NFL player Will Compton responded “Let’s f**king go,” reaffirming that Benkert is far from alone when it comes to pro athletes with an appreciation for esports and gaming. Benkert is just one of an ever-growing lineup of pro athletes who’ve made a name for themselves in the space, and with credentials like the support of Ghost Gaming and his partnership with Twitch, he’s definitely backed up his verbal appreciation for gaming with action. The worlds of gaming and mainstream media continue to blur, and with massive partnerships like Faze Clan teaming up with McDonald’s and Ariana Grande holding a massive virtual concert in Fortnite, it certainly seems that stories like Benkert’s will continue to become more frequent and accepted.

  • Nexus Mods grinds to a halt due to excess traffic following Fallout TV series – Dexerto

Nexus Mods grinds to a halt due to excess traffic following Fallout TV series Gamers may need to wait a while before downloading mods for their favorite Fallout games after the launch of the TV series has brought waves of fans new and old back to the games. From the magical realm of Skyrim to the irradiated wastelands of Fallout, Bethesda games are famous for their massive open worlds. They’re also renowned for their intense modding community, which attempts to change their favorite games, whether that be better graphics or turning Paladin Danse into Buzz Lightyear. The popular game modding website “Nexus Mods” posted a warning that “Heavy Traffic” was affecting the website. In doing so, they pointed the finger at the popularity of the Fallout TV series slowing them down in the best possible way. Nexus Mods has chugged at a snail’s pace as Fallout fans rush to get their hands on game-enhancing mods to add to the PC version of the post-apocalyptic experience. Though Fallout 4 does offer extras via the Creation Club and in-game Mod menu for those who want to avoid external sites. Fans also stated that Fallout 76 is experiencing server problems. However, it’s up for debate whether this is because servers have been overloaded with player joining attempts or if it’s just general server issues. It’s still Fallout 76, after all. It seems that the Fallout TV series has brought unprecedented attention to the game, as the attention from the show has made Fallout 4 the biggest-selling game in Europe and some of the titles breaking their all-time high player count, including Fallout 76 giving some support to the server problems being population related. On the bright side, this lets Nexus Mods prepare themselves for Fallout Season 2, which will undoubtedly revive the public’s attention to the games once again when it releases and, of course, attract more fans to the modding side of Fallout.

  • Next Multiversus patch will fix one of its most annoying issues – Dexerto

Next Multiversus patch will fix one of its most annoying issues Warner Bros.MultiVersus has been lauded for delivering a compelling platformer fighting game, but one of the devs has informed players that a fix is coming for one of its most notorious issues – the announcer. Warner Bros. MultiVersus has already gotten off to a red hot start with a huge player count lapping up the game’s fluid fighting mechanics, despite one or two OP fighters. The game is currently in its open beta and players are enjoying it early on. There’s even talk of Lord of the Rings coming to MultiVersus, as well as hit sci-fi show Rick & Morty. All of the good aspects of the game aside, it still has one or two niggles that are frustrating players, one of which is the in-game announcer during battles. MultiVersus announcer set to be patched in future update The game’s director, Tony Huynh, has been very forthcoming about MultiVersus and been engaging in discourse with players about the game — what it’s doing well and where it could be improved. A recent tweet saw the dev inform players that every character is free to play in local play and you have access to all their Perks. To which a user responded: “Tony, my brother, please God tell me you are aware of the announcer’s currently deafeningly loud volume?” Huynh addressed the question saying that a quality of life improvement was on the way to allow greater customization in that regard: “Yes, there’s an individual volume slider for the announcer in the next patch.” MultiVersus may be in its open beta phase, but it’s a testament to the game’s director that he’s embracing criticism and feedback to ensure the game is complete for the eventual full release. With big-time streamers such as xQc and Disguised Toast onboard, the game is already beginning to build a community big enough to leave fighting games like Nickledown All-Star Brawl in the dirt, and maybe challenge Super Smash Bros. for the title of best platform fighter.

Rogers claimed that it is “a new game, not a remake” and that it has “been finished for over a year.” Rogers also said the project is a collaboration between long-time developer Intelligent Systems as well as Koei Tecmo and Gust, a subdivision of Koei Tecmo. These details make sense, as Koei Tecmo has been collaborating on the development of several recent Fire Emblem titles, including the original Fire Emblem Warriors, Fire Three Houses, and the upcoming Warriors: Three Hopes game. Following Rogers’s supposed leak, another leaker called ‘miasmadelta‘ corroborated Rogers’s information via a Reddit post to the Fire Emblem subreddit and added new information of their own. They also provided screenshots of this new Fire Emblem game, showing the alleged blue and red-haired protagonist, support menus, and two new characters. Additionally, this Reddit leaker claims that Intelligent Systems is working on a remake of the Japan-exclusive Super Famicom title Fire Emblem 4, also known as Fire Emblem: Geneology of the Holy War. While leaks surrounding Nintendo aren’t all too common, the corroborated info combined with the leaked screenshots makes these claims seem more believable than some others before it.

  • Next Mass Effect game apparently still years and years away – Dexerto

Next Mass Effect game apparently still years and years away Bioware is showing off the next Mass Effect, but fans might be waiting a while, as a new report states that it’s early in development and not coming out for many years. A new promo for the next Mass Effect game has been released for N7 day, showing a mystery character wearing a helmet, which didn’t reveal much but did confirm it is still in development. Bioware has been gradually releasing small teasers for the next Mass Effect game, including an appearance from Liara and hints that the events of Mass Effect: Andromeda would be important to the new story. It seems that fans will be waiting a long time to return to the Mass Effect galaxy, as these teasers are fun, but they could hint at a game that might not launch until the PS6 is ready to hit the market. The next Mass Effect reportedly won’t arrive until 2029 Jeff Grubb revealed in a new episode of Game Mess Mornings on the Giant Bomb YouTube channel that the next Mass Effect is still a long way off, with a similar announcement-to-launch ratio as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. Grubb estimates a six-year development cycle, potentially pushing it to 2029. “This game is just nowhere near coming out (…) When they revealed Dragon Age: Dreadwolf in 2018, this is similar in terms of timeline, where that was announced in 2018, and we’re not getting that game until maybe next year. So now do the math for that, and we’re talking 2029 for Mass Effect 5.” While Grubb has an excellent record of revealing insider information leaks ahead of time, this information should still be treated as a rumor until EA or Bioware makes an official statement regarding the development or release window of the next Mass Effect game. One of the reasons for this delay could be the extended development of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, which still lacks a release date and hasn’t had a gameplay trailer. Finishing Dragon Age: Dreadwolf is a priority, and work on the next Mass Effect can’t begin until it’s on the market. Developers are no strangers to revealing games before they’re ready, such as Final Fantasy VII Remake and its five-year cycle from announcement to launch. The next Mass Effect might be a cross-gen title for the next line of systems, especially with so little of the game shown to the public.

  • Next-gen Xbox will be more powerful than PS5 according to insiders – Dexerto

Next-gen Xbox will be more powerful than PS5 according to insiders Out of nowhere, the specs for the hugely anticipated PS5 were revealed. They were even more impressive than first speculated, but insiders are reporting that the upcoming Xbox console will be even more powerful. How powerful is the PS5? The PS5 specs exceeded expectations, meaning it’s powerful. The specs are so impressive for a device of that price point that some are questioning how they can afford to sell it at game console prices. What do the PS5 specs actually mean though? Here a breakdown of them: AMD Zen 2 CPU (7nm) – Navi GPU – 8K output – Super-fast SSD – Raytracing – 3D Audio – PS4 backwards compatibility – Physical disc drive – The CPU and GPU are utilizing new technology, some of which isn’t even available in PCs yet. This means more power and more efficiency when building it. Interestingly, the PS5 will support 8K graphics. The details of this weren’t specified though and it is widely assumed that unless the games are playing in a low performance mode (poor FPS, shadows removed, etc.) then the 8K number is purely for watching TV shows and movies. Elsewhere, ray tracing is a new technology that is currently only available on high-end NVidia RTX GPU’s (although new software also makes it available on some GTX cards). Basically it vastly improves graphical fidelity, with more realistic light and reflections, and it is something that Sony were keen to boast about. The biggest example of technological improvement that was actually demonstrated was the vastly improved loading times, thanks to the use of an SSD as opposed to a HDD. New Xbox news Microsoft have remained silent on the new Xbox console, codenamed Xbox Scarlett, and the report of it being more powerful is coming from anonymous insiders. Journalist Ainsley Bowden stated “Multiple insiders have now confirmed it’s true Xbox “Anaconda” will be more advanced as rumored.” Moreover, these insiders have a track record of being correct in the past. The PS5 hardware details (so far) were exactly what we were hoping for; even beyond what many were expecting. Multiple insiders have now confirmed it’s true Xbox “Anaconda” will be more advanced as rumored. All this means is next year is going to be AMAZING for fans of both. pic.twitter.com/ro9QeO8DtV — Ainsley Bowden (@Porshapwr) April 17, 2019 So how can the new Xbox top the PS5? Who knows. The PS5 specs exceeded expectations so Microsoft will have to do something special for the Xbox. It is reported that they are desperate to keep their mantra of the “World’s most powerful console”. To do so they will need to implement some seriously cutting edge technology, make the next Xbox very expensive or even take a big loss on each console. Presumably, the new Xbox will also offer 8K output on top of advanced processor technology. If it is to be more powerful than the PS5, 4K at a solid 60FPS will be the minimum expected. There is a lot of news regarding the PS5 and new Xbox to come in the following months. What is clear though, is that it’s an exciting time to a video game fan.

  • News anchor slammed for telling 13-year-old Tetris master to “go outside” – Dexerto

News anchor slammed for telling 13-year-old Tetris master to “go outside” Sky News/Twitch: bluescutiA news anchor has come under fire for comments made about a 13-year-old boy who achieved something long considered unattainable, after he literally completed Tetris. Tetris is a game that has been around for decades, and while millions of players have attempted to get higher scores than their peers, there are very few who can say that they actually beat the game. That was until January 2024, when 13-year-old Willis ‘Blue Scuti’ Gibson made headlines for breaking several NES Tetris records and managing to “beat” the game for the first time ever. Playing until the game crashed, Gibson grinded through rows of blocks to near-perfection, with the “kill screen” crash being the ending of the game, a sign that he had, for lack of a better term, beat the game. This is something many players have tried and failed to do, an almost impossible feat that requires the utmost concentration and perfect Tetris play to achieve — but that wasn’t enough to impress Sky News presenter Jayne Secker, who didn’t hide her feelings on the matter. Sky News presenter tells Tetris player to “go outside” “Tetris has long been touted as a video game that just can’t be beaten, because it just goes on and on” Secker started. “Well, 13–year-old American Willis Gibson has technically proven that wrong. He beat the original Nintendo version of the game by reaching such a high level that the coding froze, and left the programme unable to generate any more falling blocks.” Secker was quick to add on some advice “as a mother” though, saying: “Step away from the screen. Go outside. Get some fresh air. Beating Tetris is not a life goal.” Many online have called out the anchor for her “smugness” and “embarrassing” comments, praising Gibson for his unique achievement. Squidapple said: “Literally history was made, by a kid no less, and she throws that stupid ass comment in there, just embarrassing, would slot right in with 80’s reporters talking about ‘Those Nintendo’s’.” Literally history was made, by a kid no less, and she throws that stupid ass comment in there, just embarrassing, would slot right in with 80’s reporters talking about “”Those Nintendo’s”” — Squidapple🔞🍔🍟 (@Squidapple) January 4, 2024 Another user, obkatiekat, called her “condescending.” W for the kid — obkatiekat🐾 (@obkatiekat) January 4, 2024 L for this boomer reporter What a condescending prick 🙃 Others questioned why she wouldn’t believe this to be an achievement, especially considering how long the game has been around and the fact that nobody else had done it. Needless to say, Gibson shouldn’t let these kinds of comments overshadow his achievement, and we’ve no doubt he will be hopping on Tetris once again to try to beat it even faster.

  • News chopper catches someone playing Mario Kart on stadium jumbotron – Dexerto

News chopper catches someone playing Mario Kart on stadium jumbotron A local news chopper in Kansas was shocked to discover someone playing a casual game of Mario Kart on the massive video board in the Kansas City Royals’ stadium. A reporter for KCTV5, Tom Martin, posted the clip on Twitter, which had been captured from one of their helicopters, heading out for aerial shots of another stadium. As they flew past, they couldn’t help but notice the Mario Kart action going down on the big screen – certainly not the typical gaming experience. we sent our helicopter out to get aerials of Arrowhead Stadium and on its way there it noticed a game of Mario Kart had broken out on the Crown Vision board at Kauffman Stadium?? :joyful: pic.twitter.com/rOy0icieVi — Tom Martin (@TomKCTV5) January 8, 2019 Being played on the ‘Crown Vision’ board at the Kauffman stadium, it turned out the sighting was part of a charity event – not just a technician who had got a bit bored. Initially, some commenters thought it could have been a member of staff, perhaps security or maintenance, who had decided to have a cheeky game. I hope it was worth it. Someone is going to be out of a job. — Being Human (@withcomment) January 9, 2019 However, The Royals, seeing the viral tweet about the unorthodox use of their grounds, explained that it was part of a fundraiser to kick off the new year. Yep! This was part of a #Royals Associates fundraiser to kick off the year. — Kansas City Royals (@Royals) January 9, 2019 It’s currently the off-season in the MLB, meaning teams have some downtime for their stadium usage. This is a part of a @Royals Associates fundraiser with us to kick off the year! You may even see a video game party on CrownVision as an auction item in 2019 :eyes: — Royals Charities (@royalscharities) January 9, 2019 Some commenters pointed out that the massive screen probably wasn’t the best for gaming, considering there was likely a considerable input lag, and the aspect ratio cut off most of the side of the screen. It isn’t the first time that games have been played on stadium jumbotrons either. In May 2018, the Milwaukee Brewers got in on the Fortnite mayhem by playing it in their stadium, and other sports teams followed their example. “It is a beautiful day. • New Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel login campaign rewards awesome Royal Rare card – Dexerto

New Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel login campaign rewards awesome Royal Rare card KonamiYu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel is a relatively generous game when it comes to gems. A big part of this is the regular login campaigns, and for a limited time, you can receive an impressive Royal Rare card that players can pick up pretty easily. In a post on the official Twitter/X account for Master Duel, Konami confirmed that the “Road to Worlds” campaign is launching on June 7. For players who log in seven times during the campaign, the game will reward 1000 Gems to spend in the store. Additionally, it also grants a Royal Finish copy of Number C62: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon, as well as an icon of the terrifying creature. The campaign is designed to coincide with the launch of Master Duel’s World Championship Qualifier event, which is set to launch in mid-June. This is very similar to the more regular Duelist Cups, with the ultimate victor in each region gaining an invite to compete at the event itself. Number C62: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon is a bit of a beast, even if it is part of an archetype that struggles at the most competitive tiers. It’s tough to get onto the field (requiring three Level 8 monsters to complete the XYZ summon), but when it does arrive, its effects are significant. By detaching a material, it can attack up to 3 monsters on your opponent’s side of the field. In addition, it is unaffected by monster effects, and it gains ATK equal to the combined Levels of its attached materials x100. Considering it starts at 4000 ATK, this can quickly become ridiculous. There is some speculation that the inclusion of the card as a reward could signal the arrival of a Galaxy-Eyes structure deck. The addition of structure decks to the game has historically been irregular, and it has been some time since players had some new, premade options to build upon.

  • Microsoft debunks new Xbox Series X video revealing ports & controller – Dexerto

Microsoft debunks new Xbox Series X video revealing ports & controller UPDATE January 6, 4:45PM PST: Microsoft have since issued a statement, and have said that the renders shown off by AMD were false, according to Thurrott.com. “The Xbox Series X imagery used during the AMD CES press conference was not sourced from Microsoft and does not accurately represent the design or features of the upcoming console. They were taken from TurboSquid.com.” Original article below… Rear shots of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X console were revealed during the AMD CES 2020 event on January 6, and gave eager fans a glimpse at new details that weren’t shown off during the original reveal. Xbox’s next generation console was first teased at E3 back in June 2019 under the name ‘Project Scarlett,’ and was later revealed to be called the Series X during The Game Awards on December 12. Inside components such as a custom solid-state drive and GDDR6 SDRAM were unveiled, as well as an overall look at the console’s front, but the back of the system was never shown off – until now, that is. New Xbox Series X details During AMD’s annual tech show CES, new shots of Microsoft’s upcoming system were unveiled, which gave fans a peek at what the rear looks like. In the reveal, the console was shown to have two USB-C ports, two HDMI ports, and Sony/Philips Digital Interface capability. Two HDMIs is certainly interesting, but could just mean they’re In and Out like the Xbox One – but who knows? Rear shot of Xbox Series X shown during AMD CES presentation. Fans were awarded with a new glimpse at the upcoming controller too, and were shown what it will look like from the side in order to get a better feel of how big it’ll be. The flat design of the gamepad looks sort of similar to the Nintendo Switch’s Pro Controller, and it was shown to have black bumpers at the front and silver ones at the rear. It’s certainly going to be an exciting year for Xbox fans and it looks like there will be no shortage of new titles, so here are the 9 we’re most excited about, The Medium Release date: 28 January, 2021 The Medium will be launching on Xbox Series X/S and PC later this month and it certainly looks like a terrifying trip. Bloober Team’s psychological game sees players take on the role of Marianne, a medium who has been tasked with uncovering the disturbing mysteries that lurk within an abandoned communist resort. This quest for the truth will be far from easy as ghostly spirits haunt the resort, forcing players to navigate both the real and spirit world for answers. Marianne’s psychic abilities enable players to solve mind-bending puzzles, fight off sinister spirits, and explore the resort’s dual-reality. This game is certainly not for the faint of heart. Halo Infinite Release date: 2021 While Halo Infinite made headlines for all the wrong reasons, this title is still one of the most hyped Xbox exclusives. Players will take on the role of the mighty Master Chief, a war forged soldier who must confront his most ruthless foe yet. While the game’s early footage didn’t exactly look befitting of next-gen hardware, the gameplay does seem incredibly satisfying. While series veterans will be pleased to see the same arcadey gunplay, iconic enemies, and fan-favorite weaponry on offer, it’s the general scale of the game’s world that has us most excited. The game’s alien planets look more open and than ever before, allowing players to freely jump into their trusty Warthog and tear their way through hordes of enemies. Chief’s even has new abilities, one of them being a new grappling hook that enables him to latch onto his foes and traverse the terrain around him. With a shiny new campaign and multiplayer experience to boot, Infinite could be the next sci-fi shooter Halo fans are looking for. Resident Evil Village Release date: 2021 Capcom’s iconic survival horror series continues with the release of Resident Evil Village. The game takes place three years after the events of Resident Evil 7, showing a happy Ethan Winters settling into his new life with his wife Mia. However, Ethan’s world is thrown into disarray once again when former S.T.A.R.S. member, Chris Redfield enters the picture. Read More: How to add friends on Xbox Series X and S – Not only do the snowcapped locations of Village look incredibly beautiful, they also house some incredibly terrifying creatures. We expect to see even more scares and gut-wrenching moments this survival horror game is known for when it’s eventually released later this year. Bright Memory Infinite Release date: 2021 Bright Memory started life out as an Early Access game on Steam. The original only consisted of one episode and spanned only a couple of hours. However, this didn’t stop it from garnering a lot of attention. This was down to its ambitious combination of FPS shooting, hack and slash combat, and game-changing abilities. Since then, Bright Memory has left Eary Access and will now see a full release when Bright Memory: Infinite launches. The game takes place in 2036 and sees players take control of Shelia, a special agent who has been tasked with investigating a strange phenomenon. You’ll slice and dice your way through military personnel, gun down ancient beasts, and run and jump your way photorealistic environments. Fans of the Devil May Cry and Bayonetta series will definitely want to add this to your watchlist. Far Cry 6 Release date: 2021 Ubisoft’s latest entry in the ever-popular Far Cry franchise will take players to the tropical island of Yara, a place ruled by fear under the tyrannical ruler Antón Castillo and his son Diego. Antón’s vision of paradise is one fraught with violence and bloodshed. He is a man known for his ruthlessness, stopping at nothing to ensure Yara’s people bend to his will. However, Dani Rojas, a guerrilla fighter aims to lead a resistance against the island’s cruel leader. It’s here where your quest for Yara’s freedom begins. Just like previous Far Cry titles, players can recruit fellow islanders, build up a deadly arsenal of weapons, acquire vehicles, and complete numerous side quests. Dying Light 2 Release date: 2021 Dying Light 2 takes place 15 years after the first game. The world has still yet to overcome the deadly zombie apocalypse that has ravaged civilization. Fortunately, Aiden Caldwell, an infected survivor aims to change that. His exceptional strength and incredible agility enable you to achieve what an ordinary survivor can not, giving you new and exciting ways to both kill and avoid the flesh-eating hordes that roam the decaying metropolis. The new map is four times bigger than the original game, giving you plenty of places to sprint, climb, grapple, and glide your way through the city. Just like the previous title, players will be able to craft and use various weapons while also utilizing Aiden’s superhuman abilities. Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II Release date: TBC Not much is known about Ninja Theory’s sequel to Hellblade, but we did get a good look at what players can expect thanks to the 2019 Game Awards Trailer. The first installment was heavily inspired by Norse mythology and its blend of mind-boggling puzzles, hack and slash combat, and psychological horror made for a truly unique tale. While little information is known regarding Senua’s upcoming sequel, we do know that the footage for the trailer was captured entirely via the in-game engine. Not only does the new game looks absolutely stunning, it also seems to continue its predecessor’s themes of dread and death. Fable Release date: TBC After nearly a decade of waiting, fans of the Fable series will finally be able to sink their teeth into a new Fable game. Fable 4 was announced at last year’s Xbox Series X reveal stream and while the 55-second trailer didn’t yield much information, we do know that it serves as a reboot of the beloved series. Microsoft’s official YouTube account also seems to back this up, as the teaser video’s description states: “Fable returns with a new beginning for the legendary franchise. Explore a land of fantastical creatures and wondrous places. Developed by Playground Games for Xbox Series X and Windows 10.” Players can expect to fight fantastical creatures, wield deadly magic, explore beautiful places, and vanquish troublesome villains in this eagerly-anticipated action-roleplaying game. Avowed Release date: TBC This dark and moody RPG is being developed by Obsidian, the folks behind Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II. The first-person RPG is set within the fantasy world of Eora, a place filled with chaos and war. It looks as though our protagonist can wield both magic and melee weapons, so you’ll likely need to use both if you wish to take down the monsters that lurk within the darkness.

  • New Xbox expected amid Microsoft confirming two-hour long E3 2019 presentation – Dexerto

New Xbox expected amid Microsoft confirming two-hour long E3 2019 presentation Microsoft have confirmed that their E3 2019 presentation could take up to two hours, hinting that a brand new Xbox console could be revealed at the event. Microsoft presentation length Previous durations of Microsoft presentations at E3 have never reached the two hour mark. Their presentation at E3 2018 lasted just over 100 minutes and 2016/2017 clocked in at around the 90 minute mark. The fact that Microsoft have gone out their way to confirm the length of the conference shows they must have a lot to talk about. This only adds credence to the strong rumors that the new Xbox console(s) will be revealed at E3 2019. New Xbox console A next generation Xbox console has been rumored in some capacity for years now. With the next Sony console having its first details revealed back in April 2019, more information about the next Xbox are more than certainly due. Of course, at this point, next generation consoles could still be quite a distance away. Even so, a late 2020 release date is being touted for the both of them. This means we are now getting towards the time that, logically, console reveals would take place. The console reveal itself is expected to include a list of specs and some information on Microsoft’s new Project xCloud. However, a physical look at the console isn’t expected to be revealed. Xbox One X reveal The Xbox One X was first teased at E3 2016, before releasing 17 months later in November, 2017. While still a major reveal, the Xbox One X was essentially an upgrade to the original Xbox One. Therefore, this entirely new generation of Xbox is a more important reveal. Pressure on Microsoft It has been well documented that Sony have opted to skip E3 2019, which not only adds pressure to the Microsoft presentation but also allows the focus to be entirely on them. Despite this some PS5 information may be revealed after all. There was a clear winner in the PS4 vs Xbox One battle, with the PS4 outselling the Xbox by substantial margins, but E3 2019 gives Microsoft an opportunity to attempt to right that supposed wrong.

  • New World PTR data mine reveals new desert area, weapon changes & expeditions – Dexerto

New World PTR data mine reveals new desert area, weapon changes & expeditions Amazon GamesA New World PTR data mine has revealed a number of exciting new additions that are presumably coming to the game soon, including a whole new area and two new Expeditions. As a part of a massive series of November updates, New World released a PTR for players to test out the game’s new Void Gauntlet weapon, as well as several other exciting new updates. In addition to all of the things players have already experienced in the test server, data miners have found even more that’s potentially on the way. From the looks of it, this includes a new desert area called Brimstone Sands, two new Expeditions, weapon updates, a new enemy, and some increased measures to combat cheating. New World PTR data mine: Brimstone Sands images According to several posts to the New World subreddit, data mines have revealed a series of exciting new additions to the game. Chief among these is a new desert-themed area called Brimstone Sands and two new Expeditions called Isabella’s Lair and Eridanus Cavers. Reddit user TheArkship data mined images rendered of Brimstone Sands, showing off an impressive-looking city, some mysterious landmarks, and an overall desert aesthetic that will be new to the Amazon Games MMO. New World PTR data mine: Weapon balances, new PvP missions, & more Along with Brimstone Sands and the aforementioned Expeditions, data miners have also pinpointed some other big changes that could be on the way. In terms of weapon balancing, it looks like Blunderbuss will have new weapon effects, and some of the Musket’s cooldowns are getting some buffs to make them come online faster. It also looks like the Bow, Rapier, Hatchet, and War Hammer are receiving some buffs, while Life Staff and Ice Gauntlet are getting slightly nerfed. New PvP missions also appear to be on the way where, according to the OP, players will, “Kill and Acquire Items, search chests, hunt {targetName}, chests at warcamp, kill with weapon, capture fort, assassinate elites.” Here are some other major points from the data mine, with the full post embedded just below. Increased XP for all trade skills – No longer able to place camps in invasions – A number of new emotes coming to the store – Potential Daily login rewards – A new Yeti enemy – These data mined changes, along with the already added new Void Gauntlet weapon, enemies, quests, and faction missions, look to make for a jam-packed future for the MMO. However, we encourage readers to keep in mind that these are data mines taken from a test server, so there’s no guarantee that they will make it to the official build in their original form, if at all. As more official news comes to light regarding these supposed additions, we will be sure to provide updates, so stay tuned!

  • New Xbox and PS5 pro console models expected as early as 2023 – Dexerto

New Xbox and PS5 pro console models expected as early as 2023 Microsoft/SonyUpgraded pro versions of the Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles could be releasing as early as 2023, according to TCL Technology. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles were first released back in November of 2020 – and three years later, upgraded models appear to be in the works. During a recent conference, Chinese-based company TCL Technology presented a showcase claiming that the new iterations of Sony and Microsoft’s consoles would be arriving by 2023 or 2024. According to TCL, the “half-generation” of consoles will feature 8K video, 2160p rendering, and RX7700XT GPUs. In a new conference, TCL Technology have said that a new Xbox Series S/X and PS5 Pro are coming in 2023/2024. Via https://t.co/FI7Jgq0egY pic.twitter.com/7v2sNVNVm4 — Tom Henderson (@_Tom_Henderson_) May 25, 2022 This is hardly the first time new consoles have been rumored. Last year, Sony patents surfaced hinting at a PS5 pro model with both “light” and “high-end” versions. The news comes at an interesting time, as many still find it difficult to acquire next-gen consoles. Additionally, a number of big releases so far in generation 9 have been cross-gen, leaving few current-gen exclusives. It’s not clear how much either new console will retail for. So far, neither Sony or Microsoft have responded to TCL’s presentation and have yet to announce new hardware at the time of writing. Amazingly, with Nintendo still yet to release a Switch Pro model, it will be amusing to see if upgraded versions of the PS5 and Xbox Series X are announced before a new Nintendo console. • New World Life Staff build guide: Staff skills mastery tree – Dexerto

New World Life Staff build guide: Staff skills mastery tree Amazon Game StudiosThe Life Staff is a fantastic weapon in group compositions within New World, so utilizing the weapon’s best build, skills, and abilities is essential. New World‘s vast universe offers a whole host of weapon classes in-game to choose from. Among the choices available are three magic weapons for MMORPG fans who love to run ranged DPS and healer builds. Enter The Life Staff, a weapon best used for healers and light-damage mages. To maximize the Life Staff’s potential in New World, you’ll need to run with the right skills and abilities within the class’ Mastery Tree. We’ve put together the best Life Staff build in New World that you should definitely check out. Contents New World Life Staff build – Life Staff build Mastery Trees – Best skills for the Life Staff – Alternative Life Staff skills – Best Life Staff passives – Best Life Staff PvP & PvE build – New World Life Staff build Being one of the four magical weapons within New World, the Life Staff takes on more of a support role, pairing nicely with the newly forged Void Gauntlet. This is predominantly due to its healing ability, with a large portion of its abilities being centered around aiding other players during battle. Life Staff Mastery Trees For those looking to utilize the restorative powers of the Life Staff, there are two different branches of the Mastery Tree available to spend your points on: Healing and Protector. These Masteries both provide a great range of skills that can turn the tide of a battle, each with a slightly different focus: Best Life Staff skills Despite this, The Life Staff can stand on its own when needing to switch to the offensive, but your main build should cater to support. Below are the skills you should spec into while applying points to your Life Staff mastery tree: Divine Embrace: A must-have for the Life Staff due to the 150% weapon damage heal. This is significant, especially when you’re in a battle against other players or a strong NPC. – Sacred Ground: A stable AoE healing ability that’ll help you and your party out in a pinch. – Orb Of Protection: Although not directly part of the healing line for the Life Staff, the myriad of effects this skill has — from granting Fortify through to enemy damage and ally heals — are ones you cannot be without. – Alternative Life Staff skills While we’d recommend focusing on the above three skills, Splash of Light and Light’s Embrace are also viable alternatives to spec into. Splash of Light: Healing both yourself and your allies, taking some of the heat off of needing to micromanage everyone so closely. – Light’s Embrace: This quick-heal skill will get stronger depending upon how many buffs are currently on a target, making it incredibly useful in tough battles to keep allies’ health topped up. – Best Life Staff passives To make the most of the restorative Life Staff and its power, we’d recommend running with passives such as Protector’s Touch, Intensify, and Absolved. When utilized alongside the above skills, you’ll be able to aid your allies on the island of Aeternum with ease. Protector’s Touch: While we’ve already chosen Orb of Protection as one of the skills to utilize, combining it alongside Protector’s touch grants you a total of 25% Fortify for those 3 seconds when hitting an enemy. – Intensify: Equipping this passive will increase your healing by 10% for 10 seconds up to a maximum of three stacks. If used well alongside Protector’s Touch, you’ll be able to heal up your allies in a flash, with the previous passive’s Fortify reducing incoming damage. – Absolved: This eliminates mana usage from your Life Staff’s Light and Heavy attacks, allowing you to perform skills that require a higher amount more frequently. – While our build is going to help you to heal your fellow players relatively consistently, we also encourage you to swap out skills and try out new combinations if something feels like it isn’t working for you. Best Life Staff PvP & PvE build For those players who plan on being primarily a healer in New World, then the Life Staff is a perfect fit. Whether in PvE or PvP, these are the skills we recommend you use: Divine Embrace – Orb of Protection – Beacon – Divine Embrace acts as a basic healing ability which allows you to heal yourself and your allies. Orb of Protection is a fantastic skill as it acts both offensively and defensively by damaging enemies, while also healing allies and granting them a defensive buff. The last skill you should be using is Beacon. This ability shoots out a projectile that sticks to an enemy and heals all nearby allies in the vicinity of that enemy. This can be especially useful in dungeons. To round off the best Life Staff build, we recommend using any of these passives : Absolved – Mending Touch – Blissful Touch – Revitalize – Enchanted Justice – Intensify – Sacred Protection – Bend Light – Protector’s Strength – Divine Blessing – So, there you have it – everything you need to know about the best Life Staff build in New World. • New Witcher game officially confirmed by CD Projekt Red and Epic Games – Dexerto

New Witcher game officially confirmed by CD Projekt Red and Epic Games CD Projekt RedCD Projekt Red has confirmed that the next game in the Witcher series is officially in development. They have said it will be a new saga in the series, and utilize Unreal Engine 5. Following the smash hit that was the Witcher 3, CDPR have announced they’ve started work on the next game in the Witcher series. Beyond this initial confirmation of “a new saga” in The Witcher franchise, no further details — such as a development time frame or release date — were provided. However, one detail we do know is that CDPR will be moving from the REDengine (used on Witcher 3) to Unreal Engine 5. Ciri in the spotlight The only teaser image we’ve seen so far appears to show a cat medallion, which could be a major clue. Ciri had a cat medallion in both the novels and game series, while Geralt rocks a wolf one. Additionally, in a 2020 interview CDPR had confirmed that a new Witcher game would start development after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. At the time, devs said this fourth game wouldn’t be a direct sequel to The Witcher 3 either, which means there’s a very strong possibility this story will feature Ciri front and center. Alternatively, CDPR could have something totally different up their sleeves. For now, there’s no details on where this game will take us in the Witcher universe. There is no release date for the fourth Witcher game, but we wouldn’t expect a quick turnaround for what will certainly be an epic undergoing for CDPR. For Witcher fans now, there is still a next-gen release of The Witcher 3 to look forward to.

Watch Dogs Legion: Multiplayer, free content, season pass more UbisoftUbisoft’s Watch Dogs Legion released on October 29, 2020. Now, we have more information on the multiplayer and when it’ll drop. Watch Dogs Legion was first revealed at E3 2019, and was scheduled for an early release this year. However, in October 2019, the publisher delayed the game indefinitely with reports suggesting it was due to next-gen consoles PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. During the event, the studio revealed that the open-world hacker title would be coming to consoles and PC in the Fall. • New Warzone 2 map seems more likely than ever according Treyarch job opening – Dexerto

New Warzone 2 map seems more likely than ever according Treyarch job opening ActivisionA Call of Duty insider previously claimed that Treyarch would be leading development on a new Warzone 2 map for 2023 and a new job posting seems to confirm that. Warzone 2 and Al-Mazrah are only a few weeks old but it seems that the franchise is already putting together some building blocks for the future. Back in October, TheGhostofHope suggested that the Black Ops studio had been given the greenlight to begin working on the next map and a new Level Designer position could be proof that the plan is ready to come together. Treyarch job posting reveals studio working on new Warzone map The posting in question calls for a Senior Level Designer who will join the team and “work on content for Warzone, Outbreak, and other large map experiences.” There are no hard details about what this means yet, but it certainly seems like Treyarch’s involvement with Warzone 2 is just getting started. Of course, a new map doesn’t have to mean a replacement for Al-Mazrah. We’ve already seen maps like Rebirth Island and Fortune’s Keep come and go in the original Warzone and there could be more of that flavor coming eventually. However, if they’re following suit with the predecessor, fans could be in store for a major change like the jump from Verdansk ’84 to Caldera. It certainly seems like the second year of content for Modern Warfare 2 is getting a lot of attention from Infinity Ward and their supporting studios, so a major shakeup on the Warzone side would be the perfect complement to those plans.

  • New Tales From The Borderlands Review: Lightning doesn’t strike twice – Dexerto

New Tales From The Borderlands Review: Lightning doesn’t strike twice 2K Games2K and Gearbox are back with New Tales From The Borderlands, the next narrative-driven adventure in the series, but storytelling mishaps and forced humor ensure that New Tales From The Borderlands doesn’t quite deliver. New Tales From The Borderlands (or ‘New Tales’ as we’re going to refer to it) was a sequel that few saw coming, given that it’s been eight years since the last one, and we’ve already had Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands this year too. The onus was placed upon the shoulders of Gearbox, instead of Telltale Games, to craft a brand new adventure from start to finish that focused less on the franchise’s iconic gunplay and more on its ability to assemble a coherent and entertaining story. This is achieved in parts. On one hand, New Tales has some memorable characters and fascinating scenarios, but these bright moments are held back by inconsistencies in the writing and an attempt to be the funniest entity in the Borderlands. New Tales From The Borderlands: Key details Developer: Gearbox Software – Price: $39.99 USD / £34.99 GBP – Release Date: October 21, 2022 – Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC – New Tales From The Borderlands trailer New Tales From The Borderlands can’t recapture the magic It may feel blasphemous to say, considering it wasn’t Gearbox that made it, but Telltale’s original story was probably the most well-rounded and consistent plot in any Borderlands game. Rhys and Fiona forged an unlikely on-screen partnership that fans loved and the game’s essence was overflowing with emotion and belly-roaring humor. Whereas New Tales starts all over again — as its title clearly states. This time around, we focus on three main characters: Anu, Octavio, Fran, and their assassination bot companion LOU13. Anu is a brilliant but emotionally broken scientist, Octavio is her adopted brother that skipped the line the day they were handing out brains, and Fran is an unpredictable, horny, frogurt aficionado in a mechanized hoverchair that Octavio works for. Gearbox do a good job of making each character feel unique, although not always for the better. Anu is the star of the show by a country mile and her twitchy, jittery demeanor complements her genius well. Fran and Octavio are decidedly more divisive as the former goes from being open about her degree one second to having a constant infatuation with giving everyone “mouth-to-mouth” regardless of the circumstances. Octavio can be equal parts endearing and annoying as his character bounces from one extreme to another. The chemistry between everyone is there, it just feels like Gearbox tries too hard to force it whereas the first game allowed these characters to be realized naturally. A fun but frustrating foray New Tales’ story starts out really strong and establishes its premise very well. A Tediore invasion kickstarts the action and brings our plucky heroes together. After some backstory with each character, we’re onto the game’s central plot – a magic healing gun. Anu, Octavio, and Fran discover a new element that can basically heal any injury no matter how severe and the imminent conflict caused by it is both juicy and intriguing. It’s all set up quite neatly and fluidly, to be honest, and the story as a whole is quite good, it’s just that the long (and I do mean long) road to get its conclusion isn’t always pleasurable. As with a few Borderlands entries, the desire to cram as many zany and out-there jokes in to keep it feeling edgy and likable comes at a price. Don’t get it twisted, there are plenty of japes spliced throughout the script, it’s just that there are far too many of them — many of which don’t land. Lines of dialogue will fall completely flat with an uncomfortable silence being left to allow that line to settle. The tone of the game feels very self-indulgent at times as scenes go on for what feels like an eternity without anything actually happening. The action can drag on for minutes at a time and we’ve barely advanced the plot even a single iota. The game’s five chapters do mostly feel like a tale of two halves with the first section running along quite smoothly. But then it loses its way, and Chapter 4 is one of the most baffling two hours of gameplay I’ve played in recent memory, especially so late in the story, and left me feeling, dare I say, a bit bored? It doesn’t help that the game is rife with tacked-on QTEs that you’d do well to fail if you tried, weird repetitive hacking mini-games, and Vaultlanders — a button-mashing beat ’em up mini-game that starts out fun but I felt lukewarm towards by the end as it didn’t evolve. I feel like these components were inserted to pad out the journey, but they ultimately end up hurting the game more than helping it. A touch of class One of the game’s absolute strongest points has to be its cast and performances as they do their best to bring the material to life — with Anu, again, stepping forward to absorb the adulation of the crowd. It’s hard to fault anyone in New Tales, even the Tediore guards who are given some throwaway characterization that I appreciated. That’s sometimes where Gearbox’s adventure excels as, like the games, its side content and characters can sometimes be more enticing than the main game — if not more! Stapleface, a Psycho that Anu inadvertently saves, gets very little screen time but shows a new side to the crazed killers that we haven’t seen before, and Brock, a talking Tediore gun, pops up everywhere and has some rather heavy emotional baggage that you find yourself carrying at times. It’s just a shame then that when any character has a serious moment in the game, it’s usually undermined by a less-than-serious gag literally just before it – including character deaths. Verdict – 6/10 As a huge fan of the original, I went into New Tales From The Borderlands wanting to have my mind blown and regaled with a story for the ages. Gearbox delivered this in some parts as they harnessed the crazy energy of the Borderlands universe to offer up exciting new characters and a coherent story. But the overeagerness to deliver a laugh a minute and the ludonarrative dissonance of its mini-games and QTEs take away from the game in droves. If we do get a third game, then I’d love to see Gearbox move away from all this and focus on delivering a heavy, gut-punching narrative sprinkled with that insane Borderlands energy we love so much. New Tales From The Borderlands gameplay trailers reveal graphical overhaul 2K GamesThe latest New Tales From The Borderlands trailer has given players a deeper look into how it may differ from its entertaining predecessor. Strap yourselves in for more explosive action in New Tales From The Borderlands as the sequel, coming eight years after the original, is telling a new tale and it looks to be another compelling one. Unlike Tales From The Borderlands, the new title will not be helmed by Telltale Games, innovators of the choice-driven narrative gameplay, and will instead be handled by 2K and Gearbox Software themselves. Gearbox revealed more of what they’ve been cooking up during the PAX West 2022 event and it looks to offer what fans of the original enjoyed back in 2014 — and more. 2K and Gearbox show off New Tales From The Borderlands at PAX West The Gearbox showing at PAX West 2022 treated Borderlands fans to not only a new character trailer looking at our new heroes in the making but also some interesting gameplay footage that demonstrates the improvements that have been made. In the words of 2K themselves: “New Tales from the Borderlands utilizes vastly improved movement and facial animations, using performance capture and facial mapping technology for the first time ever in a Borderlands title.” It’s certainly noticeable with dialog interactions feeling more immersive than ever thanks to realistic lip-syncing and animations. As well as the choice-based gameplay that returns from the original, new engagements include a new fighting mini-game with action figures, as well as interactive sequences that may mimic a certain tactical espionage series. Along with all the humor we’ve come to expect from a game in the Borderlands franchise, New Tales From The Borderlands will launch on October 21, 2022.

  • New Steam dating game actually prepares your 2022 tax return with help from anime waifu – Dexerto

New Steam dating game actually prepares your 2022 tax return with help from anime waifu MSCHF StudiosDo you need help preparing your 2022 US Federal tax return? This new dating game on Steam will help you fill out your forms, with the aid of a waifu. Filling out tax returns can be quite a stressful time, as gathering all your personal information and financial records is quite the task for many. To help, a new dating game is here to assist you with the stressful ordeal. The game, Tax Heaven 3000, was created by the MSCHF, an art collective that has a history of releasing surreal artworks for sale. From creating perfume that smells like WD-40, collaborating with Lil Nas X on the Satan Shoes, to arming a Boston Dynamics robot dog with a paintball gun, they’ve done it all. And their newest creation is a visual novel dating sim that not only lets you date a waifu, but she’ll also help you fill out your 2022 US Federal tax return form. No, really. Releasing on March 31, the game will center around Iris, an easygoing cheerful waifu who is oddly interested in your personal finances. And as you woo her, she’ll ask you for your information to aid in your form filling. The game was made as a criticism of the difficulties for ordinary people to file tax returns. As MSCHF writes in the about section, “corporate tax filing services are (by dint of extensive lobbying) predatory, parasitic bottlenecks that deliberately complicate the tax filing process.” Continuing to say, “video games are, at the end of the day, pieces of software ontologically akin to Microsoft Word.” They say since at the end of the day, both video games and Word are just software that can input data. Their visual novel is essentially the same as Word, it just adapts it to a dating simulator and guides you through filling out a tax return form. They also say that Tax Heaven 3000 is suitable for single filers without dependents. But fair warning, the game will ask for your personal infomation, such as Social Security Number, income, and address, so use it at your own risk.

  • New study finds 87% of classic video games are unavailable to buy amid pivot to digital storefronts – Dexerto

New study finds 87% of classic video games are unavailable to buy amid pivot to digital storefronts Commodore 64A new study by the Video Game History Foundation finds 87% of classic video games are unavailable to buy as publishers largely pivot to digital storefronts and archiving laws all but exclude video games. The video game industry is one of the fastest-growing markets in the world, however as it rapidly grows, the industry has all but forgotten its past. Some older games may survive through remasters or even backward-compatibility on certain platforms, but many aren’t so lucky. In a study published by The Video Game History Foundation (VGHF), they conclude that 87% of classic video games are now “critically endangered”, with very few means of purchasing them. In their study, VGHF found that nearly 9-10 classic games released before 2010 were hard to come by or even outright inaccessible. Many needing players to rely on vintage hardware, or even piracy, in order to access them. The study randomly picked from MobyGames, a community-run database of video games, and used their massive database as the source for their data. And they say the results look “grim”. Across the board, only 13% of video game history is being represented, and no era of games ever cracked the 20% mark. The numbers are even worse for games on consoles with very little interest, such as the Commodore 64. And even for consoles like the PlayStation 2 with higher public interest and activity from the community, only a small portion of its games remain easily accessible for players today. One of the prime examples the study gives is the original 2005 version of Yakuza, now no longer purchasable. Yes, there is Yakuza Kiwami which is a faithful remake of the game on contemporary hardware, however, since it is a complete remake, it is considered a completely different game, and its original title is no longer easily accessible. The study pinpoints two main reasons for this being the case in 2023. Firstly, the Entertainment Software Association, a video game industry lobbying group, has consistently found against expanding video game preservation within libraries and archives. And secondly, because of the lobbying, libraries are restricted to only being able to share video games to on-premise access only, despite being able to archive them. This is despite other forms of media having no such restrictions. As for how damaging it can be for game lovers, VGHF gives an example, “Imagine if the only way to watch Titanic was to find a used VHS tape, and maintain your own vintage equipment so that you could still watch it.” “And what if no library, not even the Library of Congress, could do any better – they could keep and digitize that VHS of Titatinic, but you’d have to go all the way there to watch it. It sounds crazy, but that’s the reality we live in with video games.”

  • New Star Wars game in development with Uncharted boss set to direct – Dexerto

New Star Wars game in development with Uncharted boss set to direct LucasFilm Ltd / Skydance New MediaLucasfilm Games announced a new Star Wars IP currently in development with former Naughty Dog writer and Uncharted director, Amy Hennig, set to lead the project. Hennig’s Skydance New Media team will embark on a fresh and original story in the larger Star Wars galaxy. Details of the project are scarce but Lucasfilm are partnering with Hennig to make an untitled action-adventure game. The studio’s aim for producing “high-fidelity, richly interactive experience” for consoles and streaming services attracted the Walt-Disney-Company-owned label to create a unique experience for the legendary brand. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy,” Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly said. “She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure. “Their vision for making narrative driven and engaging interactive entertainment makes this collaboration very exciting. We’re working hard with their team of experienced and talented developers, and we’re looking forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when the time is right.” Amy Hennig leading new Star Wars game This will be the second major project for Skydance New Media after partnering with Disney’s other brand, Marvel Entertainment, to create an original game. “I’ve often described how seeing Star Wars in 1977 essentially rewired my 12-year-old brain, shaping my creative life and future indelibly,” Hennig said. “I’m elated to be working with Lucasfilm Games again to tell interactive stories in this galaxy that I love.” Fans of past Hennig-directed drops (Uncharted 1-3, Jak 3, Legacy of Kain) will look forward to her take on the Star Wars property, seeing as it could be the full-fledged adventure game people have been waiting for. Hennig was previously attached to Visceral Games’ unannounced Star Wars title, Project Ragtag. That has since disappeared after EA shut down the studio with intentions to “overhaul” the project which started production in 2013. Still, Hennig’s new undertaking could fill the void that was left by LucasArts own ‘Star Wars 1313,’ a promising third-person action adventure that never reached the light of day after its teaser received incredible fan reception in 2012. As far as developers go, Hennig is a high-profile name in the industry with a history of delivering narrative-rich, action experiences. Coupled with Disney’s latest trend of streamlining projects by licensing the Star Wars IP to outside studios, Skydance New Media’s upcoming action-adventure title has the chance to finally produce the game in a galaxy far, far away fans have been longing to play.

  • New Star Wars action game confirmed by EA Motive job listings – Dexerto

New Star Wars action game confirmed by EA Motive job listings Respawn / EAEA have confirmed a new Star Wars “action game” is in development, after sharing information about the upcoming title in job listings for their Motive Montreal studios. Following the release of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, in November 2019, fans have been eager for EA to release another narrative action game within the hit franchise. However, it has now been revealed that they will be returning to the Star Wars universe, after job listings were shared for Motive Studios, the developers behind Battlefront 2 and Squadrons. EA confirms new Star Wars game is coming Although Squadrons was just recently released on October 2, the developers are seemingly wasting no time before starting to work on their next title. In the job posting for new Software Developers, the Montreal-based studio explained that they would be immediately working on the next Star Wars game, suggesting that it might already be in the early stages of development. “The team is starting immediately on an upcoming Star Wars action game and will also be building original IP,” revealed the job posting on the EA site. While there are no clues on just what to expect from this upcoming action game, many fans have suggested it might be a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order or even the return to a classic title such as Force Unleashed. However, we will just have to wait for more information on this “action game” until EA decides to officially announce the new title. The listing also confirmed they will be working on new intellectual property (IP) alongside the new Star Wars game but, as expected, little was shared on what this might mean. As of now, EA has yet to reveal a release date for the new Star Wars game but with development, seemingly, starting already, it will be a good sign for those waiting on the next release.

  • New South Park game counts among THQ Nordic’s many upcoming projects – Dexerto

New South Park game counts among THQ Nordic’s many upcoming projects ParamountDuring its 2022 games showcase, THQ Nordic teased that a new South Park game counts among its many upcoming titles. Since the animated series debuted over two decades ago, many developers have brought the unique world to life in nearly a dozen interactive adventures. However, only two of those titles have garnered any real acclaim – South Park: The Stick of Truth and its sequel, The Fractured but Whole. The THQ of old originally served as The Stick of Truth publisher, but the company’s bankruptcy culminated in Ubisoft stepping up to the plate. THQ in its newest form, THQ Nordic, has plans to revisit the South Park universe in some capacity. THQ Nordic teases a new South Park game Today, the publisher hosted a games showcase in which the likes of AEW: Fight Forever and a new SpongeBob adventure sat center stage. After the main meat of the stream concluded, a black card laden with white text filled the screen. According to the note, THQ Nordic has 43 games in development, 26 of which remain unannounced. That much quickly changed, however. A teaser from South Park Digital Studios took over the stream, merely showcasing the company’s logo. Voiceover saying, “oh, it’s coming,” then spilled from the speakers. When the black screen and white writing returned, a revised message informed viewers that now THQ Nordic has 25 unannounced games in production. The brief segment in question lasts from the 55:12 timestamp to 55:28 in the video below: At present, there’s no word on which development team THQ Nordic tapped for its new South Park game. It’s worth noting, however, that there does exist a South Park project in the works at Question Games. THQ Nordic may have recently struck a deal to publish and distribute the Question-developed release. Or, South Park fans could have two different interactive adventures to look forward to in the years ahead. Neither possibility seems too farfetched.

  • New Spider-Man PC mods let you swing through the city as Saul Goodman – Dexerto

New Spider-Man PC mods let you swing through the city as Saul Goodman Twitter: MuksSpider-Man modders have done it again, with a new mod giving players the chance to swing through New York city as Saul Goodman. Spider-Man on the PC has given gamers the chance to introduce a bunch of new mods to the game. One of the most popular types of mods is creating brand new character designs and skins for the titular web-slinger. Almost immediately on release, players began turning Spider-Man into all sorts of animals and characters. For a while there, videos of gamers swinging around the city as popular villain Kingpin were going viral. Other viral designs include one mod that has turned Spider-Man into Kermit the Frog. Now, however, the mod that is getting much attention online is one that lets you play as Saul Goodman. With Better Call Saul having just finished airing, the show – as well as the character of Saul – has never been more relevant. As a result, one Spider-Man player has modded the game, turning Spider-Man into Saul himself. The mod was posted online, with players commenting on how the design “looks like it was ripped from the spiderman 2000 game.” However, it has since been confirmed that the mod has actually taken Saul Goodman’s design from the Breaking Bad: Criminal Elements mobile game that was released in June 2019. Marvel’s Spider-Man was first released on PC on August 12, 2022, and is a remastered version of the 2018 PlayStation game. Spider-Man making its way to PC marks a continuation of Sony’s big push to break into the PC market, with other popular PlayStation titles such as God of War also having made the jump to PC in 2022. In Dexerto’s review of Spider-Man PC, we called the port a “web-slinging success.” While this Spider-Man mod of Saul Goodman is one of the latest to go viral, odds are it won’t be the last. With the game having been released for just over a fortnight, who knows what other mods will be created in the coming months?

  • New Sony PS5 patent sparks PS3 emulation hopes – Dexerto

New Sony PS5 patent sparks PS3 emulation hopes SonySony is seemingly working on bringing PS3 emulation, as a new patent reveals compatibility for older accessories and hardware. With the launch of a revamped PS Plus, one of the biggest factors to upgrade for many was revisiting older generations. The Premium tier of PlayStation’s rival to Game Pass currently boasts game selections from the PS1, PSP, and PS3. Though PS3 games are available via streaming, Sony could be working on making PS3 emulation a reality. Sony hardware such as EyeToy, PSP Go mentioned in emulation patent According to a patent spotted by Game Rant, Sony is in the midst of enabling older PlayStation hardware for use with the PS5. The patent in question makes mention of the PSP Go, Dualshock 3 controller, and even the long-forgotten EyeToy camera. The document itself details “a method for facilitating a play of a legacy game ” and that “the method includes receiving a user input during the play of the legacy game.” Other hardware such as a mouse and keyboard and Sony’s Media Remote can also be spotted on the patent. Most of the components mentioned within the patent have been discontinued for several years, but it does spark a bigger question regarding PS Plus’s future. Emulation of the PS3 and its huge catalog of games has been on Sony’s radar since the release of the PS4. VGC reported back in April that the tech conglomerate was figuring out the logistics of emulation, as the PS3’s rendering is notoriously difficult to replicate. For those out there who are still skeptical of using PS Plus Premium, adding dedicated emulation could be the push it needs to win over players.

  • New Smash Ultimate DLC soon? Leakers hint at August 28 Nintendo Direct – Dexerto

New Smash Ultimate DLC soon? Leakers hint at August 28 Nintendo Direct NintendoIt has been months since we’ve had a Nintendo Direct and fans are growing restless. Now, some prominent leakers with a history of accurate claims are suggesting that August 28 will be the date of the next General Direct, where we may even get a Smash Ultimate DLC reveal. Leakers ‘King Zell’ and ‘NateDrake’ are prominent figures on the Resetera forums and have often left clues about when they believe Nintendo-related events will transpire. Back in July, Zell implied that a General Direct would be coming at some point in August and now he’s appearing to double down on those claims, even right down to the actual date. In a seemingly random comment on a Nintendo Direct speculation thread, Zell remarked, “remember all, the new captain Tsubasa game is coming on the 28th, in general, its an arcade soccer\football game, don’t miss it.” This comment alone may not seem like much, but he also attached an image with numbers circled which could add up to 28. Additionally, his use of the word “general” resulted in many to assume he was referencing a General Direct. “Damn, Barca just lost 2-8, that’s a disaster,” he further wrote, once again, completely out of context. However, the 2 and the 8 could very well further imply something is coming on the 28th. Finally, NateDrake commented: “20, 8, 16, 35, 15, 7,” leading to a forum member to joke that they would be using those numbers in a lottery ticket. “If you win then I get 28%,” he replied, once again bringing the conversation back to the number 28, the possible date of a Nintendo Direct. While of course, it’s possible we don’t get a Direct on the 28, it’s being heavily implied. Plus, there have been many rumors about Nintendo doing something special for Mario’s 35th anniversary with some new games and/or remakes. If there is a Nintendo Direct, it’s also very likely we learn more about who the next Smash Ultimate DLC fighter is. There have been many rumors about their identity, with some suspecting it could be a Pokemon, Dante from Devil May Cry, or even Crash Bandicoot. With five fighters remaining, everyone is on edge to find out who it will be and what franchise they will be from. Only time will tell until we know for sure when the Direct is and who the next character in Fighters Pass Volume 2 turns out to be.

Next, Pellen talked about weapon customization, which focused on the different types of cannons players can attach to their ships. For example, the Long Gun excels at firing long-distance shots while the Carronade has a quick reload speed with less damage output. Each weapon will have strengths and weaknesses that players will need to factor in. Next, Pellen discussed fort raids, which will reward players with large bounties depending on how many waves of enemy ships they can defeat. When raiding forts, the enemy fort will send up a signal flair, which calls enemy reinforcements. Players will have to weigh the risk versus reward of attacking forts, as continuous enemy reinforcements will likely provide quite the challenge. The full trailer goes into more detail about other aspects of ship customization, but it seems players will have a lot of freedom when it comes to designing their ideal pirate ship in Skull & Bones.

  • New PS5 rumor claims console will have incredible demo feature – Dexerto

New PS5 rumor claims console will have incredible demo feature Sony PlayStation[jwplayer sdEiSVZH]A rumor claims that Sony’s PS5 will sport an incredible new feature that will change the way demos are created for games. The PlayStation Now-based technology will reportedly allow players to get a sneak peak at any game they want before purchasing. With only a couple months from release, there is still a lot we don’t know about the PS5. In September, a leak confirmed Microsoft’s Xbox Series X plans – including its pricing and release date. On the eve before Sony’s next-gen conference on September 16, a rumor claimed that the PlayStation 5 will actually have an amazing feature centered around demos. Rumor claims PS5 will have incredible demo feature For decades, demos have been an incredible way for players to get to experience an upcoming game before its release. In the 90s, consumers could get them in magazines, or even at restaurants like Pizza Hut. However if a new rumor is true, Sony plans to bring back demos in a big way with a new feature on the PS5. According to a new report, the next-gen console will let consumers play any game on the PlayStation Store instantly before buying. The rumor was first reported by Twitter account ‘PS5only’ who explained, “PlayStation Store Enables Instant Playing of Any Game – Try out each game in seconds within PS Store, before buying the game.” Reportedly, Sony will use tech from PS Now to stream within the store itself. Rumour: PlayStation Store Enables Instant Playing of Any Game – Try out each game in seconds within PS Store, before buying the game. Uses streaming technology based on PS Now behind the scenes, to instantly stream demos of games within PS Store.#Rumour #PlayStation5 pic.twitter.com/QkgpUHuoZ8 — ▶︎ PlayGamesMovies (@PlayGamesMovies) September 15, 2020 Interestingly, an “instant-loading” feature called Activities was teased back in July on GameReactor in a now-deleted feature preview article on the upcoming console. PlayStation architect Mark Cerny has also made comments in past interviews about the SSD capabilities of loading things quickly. It’s unclear if the Activities feature is the same thing the rumor is talking about, although its instant loading abilities would certainly make sense being used in the PS storefront. If true, it will be a pretty big game changer for consumers, who will essentially be allowed to play any game for a set amount of time before making their purchase. It would also put PS Now’s tech to good use.

  • New Rockstar Games job listing sparks more GTA 6 and Bully 2 rumors – Dexerto

New Rockstar Games job listing sparks more GTA 6 and Bully 2 rumors On January 10, a new job listing for a video editor at Rockstar Games swirled the rumor mill again among fans thirsty for any hint of news on Grand Theft Auto 6 or Bully 2. It’s been over six years since GTA V came out, and over 13 since the release of Bully on PlayStation 2, so naturally players are itching for details on new titles in the franchises. In November 2019, a job listing for a Character Costume & Wardrobe Stylist popped up on the developer’s website looking for someone with “deep appreciation” for the importance clothing plays in society, and now a new opening has jump-started the anticipation once more. Rockstar video editor job listing The new post asks for a video editor “to communicate the emotional content and excitement of a game within a 60 second format” – something that caused many to wonder if it could be for Bully 2 or GTA VI. It also requested that the hire has “experience with both drama and documentary and able to craft a compelling narrative.” Infamous Rockstar YouTuber TheNathanNS has also speculated that it could be something Red Dead Redemption related due to the nature of the “drama and emotional” comments in the listing. IMO this could be Red Dead related because of the “”drama and emotional content”

  • New PS5 “leak” claims to show UI and black controller – but is it real? – Dexerto

New PS5 “leak” claims to show UI and black controller – but is it real? PlayStation[jwplayer FcWdjVVq]A new “leak” claims to be the first look at the PlayStation 5’s user interface. The supposed images also claim to show the DualSense controller in a black variant. But are the PS5 images even real? The PS5 is is set to hit stores on November 12. Despite being only weeks away, there is still a lot we don’t know about the next-gen console – including what its user interface will look like. On October 2, a leaker on Reddit claimed to have new photos of the log-in screen from the UI, as well as a black DualSense controller. The pictures have kicked off a wave of speculation as to whether they are even real. Leaker claims to show PS5 UI It should be stated to take all of this with a massive grain of salt. But the “leak” first appeared on the popular gaming forum ResetEra after a tweet was posted that allegedly showed a user holding a black DualSense controller. Interestingly, the stranger also is seen holding the device under a TV that shows a black login screen. The image is not the PS4, which led users to think that it could be our first glimpse at the PS5’s user interface. Of course, there is no source, and anyone can fake an image using Photoshop. However, the image quickly kicked off speculation as to whether this was just an elaborate troll. While the colors of this controller certainly look awful, forum users were quick to point out that a prototype of a black DualSense leaked back in August, and the one featured in this image actually matches up with its dimensions. @geronimo_73 PlayStation 5 DualSense controller has been leaked showing a black variant of the controller. Source is unknown. #PlayStation #PlayStation5 #DualSense #Controller #BlackDualSence #PS5 #StateOfPlay pic.twitter.com/rBtVAaWh0C — Terror (@TheSheerTerror) August 5, 2020 The image in the tweet originated from a Redditor named Zelser on the r/Playstation subreddit. The leaker claimed to have the PS5 in their possession, and posted a photo of what they claim is the PS5 being opened up. That isn’t the only thing that the user shared – they also took a photo of what is supposedly the stand for the next-gen Sony console. While it’s unclear if any of these are legit, the photo of the stand attached to the device has never been seen before. While the user would not confirms how they supposedly got their hands on the console, they uploaded another photo of what they claim is the user interface after players continued to ask for more proof. At the time of writing, it has not been confirmed whether any of these images are real. However, as we stated above, take this with a massive grain of salt. Unless there is more proof, this could easily be faked. Still, with PS5 so close to its release, it’s kind of mind blowing that we still have no clue what its UI looks like. However, we will see whether the leaks are real in the next coming days as Sony is letting Japanese YouTubers get their hands on the console on October 4.

  • New PlayStation 5 patent could reveal final console design – Dexerto

New PlayStation 5 patent could reveal final console design LetsGoDigitalThe look of the PlayStation 5 may have just been locked in as a new patent from Sony has revealed a full design of the upcoming console. While the gaming industry anxiously awaits the full unveiling of next-gen hardware, Sony has drip-fed information throughout the year. Full specifications were outlined in March and the DualSense controller was revealed in April. However, the design of the console itself has remained under wraps. After a delay to the Future of Gaming presentation, a new patent published on June 4 may have just lifted the lid on the PlayStation 5. The new patent included 10 detailed images of the devkit console, breaking down each component from a variety of angles. An overhead view showcases a ‘V’ style design on top of the box with fans on either side. As a version of the console exclusively for developers and not the general public, this appearance may not be final. However, an alleged leak from 4chan appears to confirm that the shape of the final, consumer-friendly version, remains similar. PS5 is plastered on the right of the front face, Sony on the left, and a disc drive sits between them. The PlayStation logo is on top of the console inside of a ‘V’ imprint that carries over from the devkit hardware. A big difference between the two designs in the reduction in total fans on the alleged consumer design. The backside of the box features a small amount of ventilation, similar to the PS4, though there are no openings on top of the console similar to the beefy PS5 devkit. Regardless of the visual differences, the hardware looks to be quite sizeable in both designs. An earlier prototype could have already given us a glimpse of just how big the soon-to-be-released PlayStation 5 will really be. Take this alleged leak with a grain of salt. Only time will tell if this alleged design holds true to the final product. Sony’s next-gen console is still on track to hit store shelves at the tail end of 2020. As always, Dexerto will keep you in the loop as new PS5 details are revealed.

  • New PlayStation Plus: Is it worth it? Essential, Extra & Premium tiers rated – Dexerto

New PlayStation Plus: Is it worth it? Essential, Extra & Premium tiers rated Sony Computer EntertainmentThe new PlayStation Plus is here, with three subscription tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. With each one offering plenty of differences, here’s our review. PlayStation Plus has been around since 2010, and Sony’s membership service has evolved regularly. Since the PlayStation 4, PS Plus has been required for online play, and the PS5 generation has seen the biggest change yet. Now divided into three membership tiers; Essential, Extra, and Premium, there are plenty of benefits available for all players, but it won’t be for everyone. Here, we’ll try and help work out which tier represents the best value at the time of the service’s launch. For a detailed breakdown of everything included in each, be sure to check out our explainer. PlayStation Plus Essential: Is it worth it? If you’ve used PlayStation Plus at any time since the PS4, then you’ll know how Essential works — it offers access to online gaming, cloud storage for your saved data, and access to exclusive discounts. It also adds new games for players each month, although this has dropped from two PS4 games and a single PS5 game to a pair of PS4 games. Read more: PS Plus July 2022: Leaks, rumors & more – It’ll cost users $9.99/£6.99 per month, and if you’re looking to play popular multiplayer games you’ll need to subscribe. It’s worth noting, though, that the likes of Warzone and Apex Legends don’t require PS Plus, in which case your decision as to whether to subscribe or not could simply be based on which games are offered monthly. PlayStation Plus Extra: Is it worth it? Previously known as PlayStation Now, PS Plus Extra is the tier you’ll be moved to if you were subscribed to Sony’s cloud streaming service. That’s not to say they’re the same, though — unlike PS Plus Essential which has remained the same, PS Plus Extra more closely resembles Xbox Game Pass. Extra will set users back $14.99/£10.99 per month and offers a library of 400 PS4 and PS5 games to play. For a little extra above the Essential tier, this feels like the sweet spot for the new PlayStation Plus, with games being downloadable so you can play them locally. Players can gain unlimited access to PS4 classics such as Batman: Arkham Knight, Death Stranding, and Mortal Kombat 11, while there are PS5 games, too — with Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the incredible Demon’s Souls remake included. For the full list of PS Plus Extra and Premium titles, you can check our page, but being able to jump into those two huge PS5 exclusives make the Extra tier a great prospect for players that have just got their hands on a PS5. PlayStation Plus Premium: Is it worth it? If Extra is the sweet spot, does that mean PS Plus Premium is overpriced? Not quite, with the highest subscription tier ($17.99/£13.49 per month) feeling like a great deal for die-hard PlayStation fans that have been with Sony since the nineties. On top of the Extra tier’s 400 games, Premium adds another 340 classic games from PlayStation, PS2, and PSP that can be downloaded or streamed. There are also PS3 games, but these are restricted to streaming. In our experience, it’s solid and works well enough, but can be a little blurry. We also feel like Sony is stretching the definition of the word “classic” here, though, as well as how franchises are represented. As an example, we wonder how many players are itching to play Rag Doll Kung Fu or Greg Hastings Paintball 2 from the PS3, while there are seven different Dynasty Warriors games represented. Still, if that’s your favorite game or franchise, the subscription is well worth it. There’s also plenty to enjoy for Star Wars fans, with a huge number of titles from the heyday of PS2 era offerings like Racer Revenge, Bounty Hunter & more. They’re all here, but we’d argue not offering the chance to filter via platform is a big miss (even PS1 games are shown as PS4/PS5 titles as the library is categorized by compatibility, as opposed to the original release). It’s also worth noting that many of the 13 PS1 games you can find now are the inferior PAL versions which run at 50Hz, but Sony says 60Hz is on the way. That should help games like Syphon Filter improve their frame rates, but it remains to be seen if that’ll lead to unanticipated side effects. Perhaps the biggest disappointment, though, is the UI holding everything together. Rather than feeling like a celebration of some of gaming’s most iconic franchises, everything feels thrown together. There’s no curation, no recommendations, and, as we mentioned earlier, no way to look through, say, all PS1 games. Expect to dig through a huge number of titles to find what you want. We know it’s not the easiest thing to manage, but Xbox Game Pass, for all of its faults on PC, lets you filter by genre, original platform, and plenty more. Sony’s service arguably offers the superior library, but seems unsure of how best to showcase it. There are also game trials, meaning you can play a portion of Horizon Forbidden West or Cyberpunk 2077, with progress carrying over to the full game if you do pick it up. Final thoughts PS Plus Premium will undoubtedly appeal to hardcore fans of Sony’s systems, but for our money, we’d recommend PlayStation Plus Extra. Not only do you get a sizeable library of titles that we expect to change over time, but they’re all playable locally without relying on streaming. If Sony can add better organization and an improved collection of classic games, though, this could be a huge boon for PlayStation owners. For more on gaming subscription services, check out the best games on Xbox Game Pass right now.

  • New Persona 5 spin-off and Persona 3 remake imminent suggests leak – Dexerto

New Persona 5 spin-off and Persona 3 remake imminent suggests leak AtlusAnother Persona 5 spin-off looks to be on its way alongside a Persona 3 remake, according to a newly discovered domain registered by publisher Atlus. Persona has established itself as one of the premier JRPGs on the market with Persona 5 and its enhanced version, Persona 5 Royal, being particularly successful. This success has prompted multiple spin-off games including Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5 Strikers, and Persona 5: The Phantom X. And now another spin-off looks to be on the way plus long-term fans could be getting that Persona 3 Remake they’ve wanted for years. Domain registration points to new Persona games Atlus has registered domains for two projects, as spotted by Persona Central. The domains that have been registered are ‘P5T.JP‘ and ‘P3RE.JP‘. The domains seem to hint at two new Persona games with P5T likely to be a Persona 5 spin-off and P3RE being a remake of Persona 3. These two domains were spotted after Atlus transferred them from Onamae to Amazon Route 53. Onamae is a popular choice for registering ‘.JP’ domains while Amazon’s Route 53 service offers a large-scale international alternative. History suggests that Persona announcements tend to follow shortly after moves like this. In December 2018 the ‘P5R.JP’ domain was similarly transferred with an official teaser following just five days later. The same is true of the two Persona dance spin-offs that were announced in August 2017. The timing of this has given Persona fans hope with several big game events right around the corner. The Summer Games Fest will see a bunch of new game announcements with Persona possibly making an appearance. With the PlayStation showcase already gone and Atlus not hosting its own event, the Xbox Games Showcase seems the most likely to feature a possible Persona announcement. To avoid missing out you can watch the Xbox event on June 11 at 10 AM PT.

Vulnerability researcher Mike Heskin shared that he found that Nintendo’s latest update added preliminary support for a new hardware model, listed as “nx-abcd”. “Firmware 10.0.0 adds preliminary support for a new hardware model: nx-abcd,” he revealed, “3 of the 5 new DRAM profiles are for this new hardware type.” Firmware 10.0.0 adds preliminary support for a new hardware model: “”nx-abcd””. 3 of the 5 new DRAM profiles are for this new hardware type and there’s evidence of a secondary display of sorts being added exclusively on this model. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)— Mike Heskin (@hexkyz) April 14, 2020 However, one of the most surprising aspects of this find was that the new model would seemingly be a dual-display model of the Switch. “There’s evidence of a secondary display of sorts being added exclusively on this model,” Mike added, suggesting that the new model could include two screens. Nintendo has previously revealed that they are “always performing development of new hardware” after rumors were initially spread about a Switch Mini potentially being announced The latest Switch model that Nintendo has released was the Switch Lite which was first launched on September 20, 2019, so it is possible that they have shifted their focus to a new model. That success is set to continue in the later half of the year, with a LOTR re-release and a brand-new Doctor Who set coming up. New cards from each set have leaked out into the wild, and we’re going to give you a close look at these spoilers MTG Tales From Middle Earth Scene Cards leak Tales from Middle Earth is shaping up to be MTG’s best-selling set of all time, thanks in no small part to the search for The One Ring. But even with the Ring found, there’s enough life left in Tales from Middle Earth to warrant a rerelease for the holidays. The biggest draw of the Tales from Middle Earth holiday release is undoubtedly the scene boxes. When displayed all together, these cards depict an incredible tapestry of Middle Earth, with key scenes from Tolkien’s work given the spotlight. MTGO Salseo on X (recently rebranded from Twitter) leaked images of three out of the four scenes from the upcoming boxes. The three new scenes revealed so far display the Witch-King and his Fell Beast, the power of Galadriel, and the strength of the Fellowship. The Witch King scene consists of: Call Forth The Tempest – Nazgul Battle-Mace – Witch-king, Sky Sovereign – Mordor on the March – Fell Beast of Mordor – Minas Morgul, Dark Fortress – The Galadriel scene is made up of: Arboreal Alliance – Galadriel, Light of Valinor – Rally the Galadhrim – Galadriel’s Dismissal – Mists of Lorien – Galadhrim Brigade – Finally, the Fellowship scene is comprised of: Anduril, Narsil Reforged – Aragorn, Hornburg Hero – Legolas’s Quick Reflexes – Gimli’s Reckless Might – Isengard Unleashed – Rohirrim Chargers – New Doctor Who MTG cards revealed in leak Fewer in number than the Lord of the Rings cards, the Doctor Who reveals are still sure to please fans of the series. There are Sagas representing two of the Doctor’s most beloved stories, as well as a fan-favorite companion and iconic villain. Reddit user DopeyDragon shared images of the four new cards. Weeping Angel Outside of the Daleks, Cybermen, and The Master, the Weeping Angels have staked an impressive recent claim as Doctor Who’s most well-known villains. Their speed, deadly nature, and odd relationship to being observed are all represented here and make for an excellent unexpected removal option for blue/black decks. Donna Noble Doctor Who fans will no doubt be thrilled to see Donna’s return in the 60th-anniversary specials, but she’s arriving in MTG even earlier. Donna’s abilities have a basis in the near-mystical connection she and the Doctor share, and the combination of her Soulbond and reactive damage are sure to leave opponents weighing up the cost of attacking at all. The Girl in The Fireplace One of the Modern Era’s most well-received stories, The Girl in The Fireplace Saga is packed with interesting abilities. Time Travel plays a big part in many of the cards from this set, but the Horsemanship granted by this card can provide some very unexpected evasion to your Doctors, making it a worthy inclusion all by itself. Fugitive of The Judoon Outside of the previously-revealed Flux Saga, Fugitive of The Judoon is the most recent part of Doctor Who to be adapted for Universes Beyond, As the Doctor encounters their mysterious fugitive self, a potential past that they cannot remember. The Saga depicts the stages of the Doctor in hiding as a human, pursued by the Judoon and finally awakened to their memories. We’ll keep you updated as more cards are revealed from Universes Beyond.

  • New MultiVersus leak hints at potential Stranger Things crossover – Dexerto

New MultiVersus leak hints at potential Stranger Things crossover Player First GamesA new leak for hit fighting game MultiVersus suggests a major Stranger Things character will be joining the roster as the game’s wide variety of fighters expands. Leaks about future characters for Multiversus have been circulating all over the internet lately. According to Mvsleaks, the likes of Teen Titans Robin, Beetlejuice, Scooby Doo, and even Gremlins are all reportedly joining the roster in the future. However, the most interesting fighter to be included in the latest string of leaks is Eleven from Stranger Things. In addition to the character’s name being listed in the leaks, there are also datamined voice lines from another potential added character Raven that directly mention battling it out with Eleven. Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven is one of the main characters in the Netflix hit show. If true, this would be the first non-Warner Bros property to appear in the game and could pave the way for future crossovers to occur. Essentially, this leak is a domino effect and repercussion from the initial reports of DC characters Robin and Raven’s inclusion in the game. Eleven would be an interesting fighter to add to the game. Her psychic powers would be quite unique compared to the other characters in the game. That’s not to mention how awesome it would be if Millie Bobby Brown herself did the voice acting for any lines in-game. Of course, Stranger Things is one of the most popular shows on television at the moment. The recent season was extremely well received by fans and critics alike. Many were even expecting cast member Sadie Sink to receive an Emmy for her performance in Season 4. However, Sink and her other cast mates were snubbed of 2022 nominations. Netflix as a company are very proactive about their desire to get involved in video game projects and collaborate with game devs. Because of this, this leak of Stranger Things being a new crossover for MultiVersus could be a very real thing. And if it is, it could also open the door for more Netflix characters and series to crossover in the game moving forward.

  • New Monster Hunter Wilds trailer confirms weapon-swapping mechanic – Dexerto

New Monster Hunter Wilds trailer confirms weapon-swapping mechanic CapcomThe latest trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds has shown off a new weapon-swapping mechanic that will completely change your hunts. Since Monster Hunter Wilds was first revealed at The Game Awards 2023, hype for the game has been steadily building. Its initial trailer saw a record boom in player counts for its predecessor Monster Hunter World and even Asmongold finally gave the franchise a shot. A new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds shown off at the May 2024 PlayStation State of Play gave us a much better look at the upcoming game. One particular feature is sure to stand out to veteran hunters looking to mix things up. For the first time ever, players will be able to seamlessly change their weapon on the fly during hunts. Monster Hunter Wilds finally allows quick swapping between weapons. Initial speculation was that Monster Hunter Wilds would allow players to swap between a ranged and a melee weapon on the go thanks to what looked like a holster on the new mount. Capcom has revealed that this mount is called a Seikret and that it will allow you to swap between any of Monster Hunter Wilds’ 14 iconic weapons. “Your Seikret isn’t just for travel, though—you can also stash an extra weapon in its weapon sling, allowing you to switch between two weapons of your choice while out on hunts,” an informational segment on the game’s website reads. The potential combinations may not be truly limitless, but they open up some exciting new options for your Monster hunts. Being able to swap to a ranged weapon during a hunt against more evasive Monsters was a feature shown off in the trailer. There’s also the potential for solo Hammer mains to be able to cut tails at their discretion or bring an elemental weapon to deal with Monster weaknesses before delivering more powerful blows. This new weapon-swapping feature for Monster Hunter Wilds is a literal game changer. Monster Hunter Wilds will release sometime in 2025 and hunters will get a chance to test all these possible combinations themselves.

  • New medieval game goes viral for massive battles with “insane” twists – Dexerto

New medieval game goes viral for massive battles with “insane” twists Redemption Road GamesThe first look at KingMakers has garnered major attention thanks to the sheer scale of its medieval combat, and the unique curveball it throws at the genre. 2024 has already been such an interesting year for games with surprise hits seemingly hiding around every corner. The unexpected success of sleepers like Palworld and Helldivers 2 is paving the way for smaller titles to blow up. Palworld’s high-concept Pokemon with guns pitch captured the imagination of millions of players and rocketed it through the Steam charts. Helldivers 2 has had similar success thanks to its in-built hilarity and unifying gameplay. It’s probably a little too early to call but judging from an incredible first-look trailer, Redemption Road Games’ KingMakers seems destined for similar success. The trailer is doing some numbers on Twitter and is catching the eye of major publishers and content creators. KingMakers needs to be seen to be believed At first glance, KingMaker looks like your classic medieval RTS game. Right up until a time-traveling pickup truck plows through a fyrd and mows down the lightly armored peasant conscripts. Going from strength to strength, the trailer shows off gameplay in which the player character takes on hordes of 15th-century soldiers with assault rifles, grenade launchers, and finally, an attack helicopter. We don’t think we need to explain why people are so excited. The KingMaker trailer shows off a bunch of impressive gameplay systems including the building of settlements, RTS battle command, and an overwhelming number of enemy combatants. The sheer scale of the combat shown off did have some viewers concerned though devs were quick to put those fears to rest. “We’re obsessed with optimization,” they said. “We already have it running on Steamdeck. As you can imagine, the code is ridiculously optimized.” The primary purpose of the trailer is to petition potential players to wishlist KingMaker on Steam. It’s not just PC players who will get to experience the chaotic time-traveling action though. The game’s developers have confirmed in response to our question that it will be coming to consoles with full four-player support.

  • New Marvel game reportedly being developed by EA – Dexerto

New Marvel game reportedly being developed by EA EA, MarvelThe next Marvel video game could be on the way from EA. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still dominating film and television, but Marvel is just beginning its attempt to take over video games. From the existing hits like Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel’s Avengers to the upcoming Marvel games Midnight Suns, Spider-Man 2, and Wolverine, Marvel games are coming fast and furious in the near future. According to the latest insider information, the next Marvel game after that group will be coming from one of the biggest video game publishers. EA making the next Marvel game? According to industry insider Nick Baker on the XboxEra Podcast, EA is set to develop an upcoming Marvel game. Baker did not go into detail as to which heroes or IP might be part of that development, but it does seem that he knows and did not want to risk spoiling details. Baker said, “This new source sends me a DM the other day, saying: ‘Oi, EA’s making a Marvel game.’ I can’t [say more] — because he mentioned what it would probably be about (which IP it would be about) — and I can’t even give clues.” This would be EA’s first experience developing a game based on a Marvel property, but it wouldn’t be their first collaboration with a major film property. EA famously developed Star Wars Battlefront 2, which was panned by critics and players for being full of microtransactions. However, EA also oversaw the development of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order by Respawn Entertainment, which was widely praised. It’s not a foregone conclusion that an EA-developed Marvel game would be another Battlefront. For now, though, fans are left to speculate as to which character or group this new mystery game could be based on. No potential release date has yet been confirmed.

  • New Mario voice actor revealed ahead of Super Mario Bros. Wonder release – Dexerto

New Mario voice actor revealed ahead of Super Mario Bros. Wonder release NintendoSuper Mario’s new voice actor has finally been revealed after rampant speculation on who would take over the role of the iconic plumber. Super Mario Bros. Wonder made waves in the Nintendo community after fans noticed that Mario’s voice sounded slightly different during its initial reveal trailer. Shortly after, Mario’s long-time voice actor Charles Martinet revealed he would be stepping down from the iconic role after 30 years. However, Nintendo refused to confirm who would replace Martinet until Mario Wonder officially released. Now, just one week ahead of its October 20, 2023 release date, Mario’s new voice actor has been officially revealed through a post on social media. Mario’s new voice actor confirmed through social media On October 13, 2023, voice actor Kevin Afghani tweeted the following: “Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!” Afghani’s tweet quickly went viral on social media, garnering well over 600,000 views and 14,000 likes in just one hour. Nintendo has subsequently confirmed the role via email, according to Polygon. According to Afghani’s IMDB page, the Los Angeles-based actor has voiced roles like Arnold from Genshin Impact and has done work for the Mashed YouTube channel. This official confirmation comes after rampant speculation across social media on who the new voice actor was after one user on Famiboards datamined a demo kiosk for Mario Wonder. They compiled the data surrounding voice assets and used process of elimination to try and determine the voice actor. Many assumed voice actor Mike Wingert would be stepping into the plumber’s iconic shoes but Wingert’s agents denied he was voicing Mario in Wonder, as reported by IGN. It’s unclear whether or not Nintendo decided to reveal Mario’s new voice actor earlier than expected because of the datamine. Regardless, fans can finally place a name to Mario’s new voice. Those looking forward to seeing Afghani’s take on the iconic mustachioed plumber won’t have to wait long, as Super Mario Bros. Wonder is set to release on October 20, 2023.

  • New Mafia prequel reportedly in development at Hangar 13 – Dexerto

New Mafia prequel reportedly in development at Hangar 13 Hangar 13, 2k GamesRumors surrounding Hangar 13 may suggest a new Mafia game is in development, set as a prequel to the original trilogy. The rumor in question comes by way of Kotaku, which reported on now-former studio head at Hangar 13, Haden Blackman, is leaving after seven years. Though 2k Games, the publisher of the Mafia series, declined to comment on the story, Kotaku released an email from Hangar 13 detailing the developer’s leadership changes. However, Kotaku’s source also notes that the departure coincides with the early development of a new Mafia title at Hangar 13. The rumored Mafia title may be a prequel While it’s not all too surprising that Hangar 13 are going back to Mafia with their next project, it is interesting that Mafia 4 may end up being a prequel. It would make sense, considering the Mafia Trilogy recently received Definitive Editions, with Mafia 1 being remade from the ground up and Mafia 2 receiving new HD visuals. Seeing as all of the games have been brought to the modern era, going further back in the series’ timeline could bring a fresh spin on the crime-inspired action-adventure series. Mafia 4 reportedly developed with Unreal Engine 5 What’s more, is that the game is reportedly being developed with Unreal Engine 5. Gamers got a taste of what Unreal Engine 5 was capable of through The Matrix Awakens experience which was released following the Game Awards on December 9, 2021. Though The Matrix Awakens was a shorter experience meant to showcase the new engine, the upcoming Xbox Series X title, Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2, is set to be the first full game released using Unreal Engine 5. Depending on how development is going over at Hangar 13, this alleged Mafia prequel could be a title to look forward to as a technical showpiece. Still, only time with tell if Hangar 13’s change in leadership will impact the development of this rumored title in any meaningful way.

  • New Mario voice actor needed as Charles Martinet steps down: Who will it be? – Dexerto

New Mario voice actor needed as Charles Martinet steps down: Who will it be? NintendoCharles Martinet, the legendary actor behind the catchphrase “It’s-a-me, Mario,” has decided to step down from Nintendo’s flagship video game series Super Mario’s lead voice after more than 30 years. Nintendo has not yet found a new voice actor for the role of the iconic mustachioed plumber. However, fans continue to ponder the question of who it will be. Certain characters in the ever-changing world of video games become icons that transcend the medium. Mario, the courageous plumber from the Mushroom Kingdom, rises tall as one of the most recognizable and enduring symbols of gaming culture. Yet, behind Mario’s cheery “It’s-a me, Mario!” and countless “Woo-Hoos” lies the talent and charisma of Charles Martinet, the man who has brought him to life for decades. Martinet first portrayed Mario in 1991 and was first featured in 1993’s Mario Teaches Typing; he has since provided the character’s iconic voice for over 30 years. Now, after three decades, the actor has decided to step down from his role as the voice actor for multiple characters in the Super Mario series, such as Wario, Luigi, Waluigi, etc. across multiple iterations. Due to this, a new voice actor is required to play the iconic character, and fans are speculating about who it will be. Who will be the next Mario voice actor? As of August 22, 2023 Nintendo has not announced who would replace Charles Martinet as the voice actor for Mario and other characters he voiced. Since Martinet’s recent transition to the role of Mario Ambassador, it is likely that he will be involved in the process of selecting the next voice actor for the iconic character. However, fans on social media are sarcastically speculating that Chris Pratt will assume the role, as he voiced Mario in Illumination’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, resulting in a divided fanbase. While some fans praised Pratt’s performance and the film’s homage to the classic video game franchise, others wished the character to sound more cheery, like Martinet’s rendition of Mario. Since the search for Mario’s new voice actor will begin soon, it will be some time before Nintendo finds someone who can match the infectiously upbeat “Woo-Hoo” voice made famous by Martinet in the video game franchise. We’ll keep this story updated in case of any future developments on the same. That’s everything we know about the new Mario voice actor. Check out some more gaming guides on our site.
