Based on the manga by Naoya Matsumoto, Kaiju No. 8 merges Attack on Titan and Godzilla to form an anime show of considerable intrigue. In a world where monster attacks are regular, a young soldier in Japan\u2019s Defense Force gets the power to become one of the giant creatures. Determined to defend his country from these creatures, he chooses to keep this ability a secret while still serving as a soldier, acting as enemy and ally in the struggle to defeat the evil. It\u2019s a fascinating premise, and given the show is made by Production I.G, it\u2019s in safe hands. The editor behind the manga certainly thinks so, based on what he\u2019s seen so far. Kaiju No. 8 editor was \u201coverwhelmed\u201d by the anime Seijiro Nakaji, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Shonen Jump and the Editor on Kaiju No. 8, has commented on the upcoming show. \u201cI saw the storyboard, and I was just overwhelmed, thinking: \u2018It\u2019s unbelievable how amazing it has become in the hands of a professional!\u2019,\u201d he told Manga Plus. Nakaji explains that some aspects \u201cwere further explored or reinterpreted\u201d from the manga, suggesting fans familiar with the source material are getting a different version of the story. \u201cI\u2019m also really looking forward to seeing how the action moves and the colors of the monsters turn out,\u201d he adds. That\u2019s my big curiosity as well. Mecha and kaiju anime are common, so I\u2019m hoping Kaiju No. 8 will approach action in a way that feels distinct and modern. Thankfully, what we\u2019ve seen so far suggests as much, and we don\u2019t have long to find out as Kaiju No. 8 premieres in April 2024.
