Ranking means quite a lot in My Hero Academia. The anime show places a lot of emphasis on young heroes having to earn their stripes, and some heroes being stronger and more capable than others, and so on. It’s what makes Deku having the One For All quirk meaningful – he was one of the weakest heroes, and now he’s arguably the most important. Many other franchises don’t care as much. Dragon Ball Z, for instance, just throws power levels around without a care in the world. At first, it seems like the numbers matter, but when you reach the point where basically anyone can wreck a planet at a moment’s notice, it stops mattering, and that’s before we get to the universe-destroying shenanigans of Dragon Ball Super. My Hero Academia fans think the weakest DBZ characters would beat any Pro Hero A Reddit thread spurred by an artist’s rendition of what Yamcha and Tien might look like in My Hero Academia led to a discussion of the Z Fighters joining the Pro Heroes. Fans unilaterally agree they’d practically be gods, since their powers don’t really have strict limits. “Yamcha and Tien would unironically solo the verse. DBZ has such insane scaling that even the weakest characters are planet level,” one commenter surmizes, and most everyone agrees. They have a point – DBZ power levels are tethered only by how much a character can train and harness, so even if Yamcha and Tien had some restrictions to start, they could very easily overcome that in a matter of weeks. The same is true for abilities. There’s nothing to say they can’t all do Spirit Bomb, a gigantic energy blast formed from the mana of all living things. That kind of unfettered roster makes calculating anyone’s actual prowess tricky. Even in Dragon Ball Z, everyone is just weaker than Goku and Vegeta. That’s the only descriptor that’s stuck. Everything else is up for discussion. This all said, these guys would also make good protagonists for different reasons, too. “Tien has such dedication to training and becoming better that he would inspire a lot of people, and Yamcha is so chill most of the time,” adds another user. And really, isn’t that what matters most?
