Apex Legends’ inventory system got a major update in the System Override event update. Hoarding tons of meds, grenades, and ammo was possible if you had a high-enough level backpack, but now, players have to be more cautious with what they pick up. While there’s more space in the backpack overall — with every level backpack getting an additional two slots — grenades, shields, meds, and ammo take up more space after their stack sizes were reduced. With less utility on the board for players, mindlessly picking up items as you loot is out of the question — you have to be thoughtful about what you put in your backpack and what you leave behind. It’s a bit of a shock to the system for most Apex players, but for shroud, he hasn’t really noticed a major difference. “Honestly, it’s not that different because look at how big my f**king backpack is,” he said in a March 9 video. “Yeah, the trade-off is I can’t hold as many ‘nades — that’s good — I can’t hold as many meds.” “In reality, I’m still holding six batteries, my bullets, a couple of nades — it just feels more balanced this way. This feels balanced — gold inventory, two ‘nades, couple of syringes, a f**k-ton of batteries, and a Phoenix, this is a balanced inventory.” For mobile readers, the related segment starts at 3:56. The streamer believed that before the update players could get away with having too much utility, so the changes were a pleasant surprise. “Before, you just carried too much sh*t. I’m sorry, but I don’t think somebody should have 15 grenades and room for like 12 batteries — that’s too much,” he said. He even went as far to say, in the long run, the inventory update will add more teamplay. As utility gets split between players, teams will have to make sure they can hold enough goods for not just themselves, but their entire squad. “Now there’s trade-offs, like do you want to be somebody that carries a f**kton of meds, or do you want to be somebody that carries a f**kton of ammo, or do you want to be somebody that carries a f**kton of nades? You can give more roles to people and teamplay which is cool. “I think this whole inventory change is for the better, I just don’t think people see that right now.” While shroud hasn’t been the biggest fan of the rest of System Override — he called the Deja Loot LTM “terrible” and is pushing devs to make changes to Evo Shields — the inventory changes are something he believes Respawn have gotten right.

Shroud explains why Apex Legends is “more balanced” after backpack update Respawn Entertainment / Mixer: shroudMichael ‘shroud’ Grzesiek is a big fan of the recent Apex Legends inventory update shipped in the System Override event, stating the new stack sizes are “more balanced” and will be “better” in the long run.
