Game Director and Larian founder Swen Vincke had a chat with PC Gamer about the decision to highlight the druidic dalliance ahead of release. During this, he revealed that the moment was great for the game, less so for his son. Regarding the genius choice of adding bear sex to the highlight reel, Vincke explained the thought process. \u201cWe wanted a scene people were going to talk about, but we wanted to show that this was a cinematic game, with characters that have depth to them,\u201d he said. While Astarion certainly did go deep, Vincke was referring to a different kind of depth. \u201cThe bear\u2019s obviously a druid, and he has a story. He\u2019s been around for hundreds of years,\u201d he said. \u201cHe\u2019s lived with bears for part of his life also, so that\u2019s where the bear thing comes from.\u201d The scene certainly did reach a lot of people. Some of which were the friends of Vincke\u2019s 17-year-old son. \u201cMy son comes to me telling me, \u2018Dad, people are sending me pictures of bears from everywhere,\u201d he said. \u201cI wasn\u2019t ready for that.\u201d Vincke went on to explain that his son was receiving calls from his friends to let him know his dad was some kind of deviant. \u201cI could overhear him going like \u2018Yeah, I KNOW!\u2019 (to people on the phone).\u201d Baldur\u2019s Gate 3 offers a plethora of romantic options that aren\u2019t bear-related, of course, and Vincke says that these are great dramatic tools. \u201cYou get great conflict there, and that creates the most engaging storytelling,\u201d he explained. The game\u2019s prolific horniness has certainly resonated with its fans.
