The devs behind Baldur’s Gate 3 recently announced that mod support would be coming to the massively popular RPG. While most of the player base was elated by the news, a vocal minority appears to have gone too far in their criticisms of lackluster mod support, resulting in Larian asking them to stop making death threats. In response, the greater Baldur’s Gate 3 community has expressed their disgust in these fans and have spoken out in defense of the devs online. Baldur’s Gate 3 fans abhor death threats being sent to devs The reveal of death threats being made towards the Baldur’s Gate 3 devs came in a series of tweets by Larian’s Director of Publishing, Michael Douse. While discussing when they would be giving more information about the upcoming mod support, Spouse mentions: “Threats & toxicity against our devs & community teams will only harm the conversation. Please stop that.” We’ll be talking in depth about what our mod support will look like soon. Been working on it since launch. As always, we’ll discuss it in our way with our community. Please stop that. — Very AFK (@Cromwelp) February 25, 2024 The response to this by the community has been one of revulsion and embarrassment for their members to be sending these threats. Over on the Baldur’s Gate 3 subreddit, the fans are coming together to support the devs and speak out against this kind of behavior. “They were raised wrong and incorrectly believe they’re anonymous and that digital footprints aren’t real.” It appears that a majority of the threats are being sent as a result of the latest updates and patches breaking mods for the game, forcing players to uninstall them. “Been a lot of drama over Patch 6 breaking mods and Larian’s discord server going off the rails. Suffice to say, whenever there’s any community backlash, some people will invariably take things too far because psychos always find a way.” Many fans are concerned that this kind of action will result in the community becoming more negative overall, resulting in more “insufferable weirdos.” Unfortunately, as one user points out, a game as massive and successful as Baldur’s Gate 3 will always have a huge playerbase, which means “it’s gonna have insufferable weirdos.” The entire situation is horrible, and it’s at least affirming to see the greater chunk of the community coming to speak out against these threats.

Baldur’s Gate 3 players appalled by dev death threats over mod support Larian StudiosThe Baldur’s Gate 3 community is disgusted by some fan members sending death threats to the devs over the game’s mod support.
