The remaining prize money will be split among the winning teams from each major region. After lengthy tournaments in eight distinct regions, the world’s best CoD Mobile players were all set in stone. Top teams from across the likes of Europe, Asia, and America were all locked in for a proper, global finale. However, this ultimate showdown is no longer in the cards. The Grand Finals for the 2020 event have been called off. “We are putting the health and well-being of our players first,” the CoD Mobile developers said in a December 7 post. “Out of an abundance of caution, the Stage 5 Grand Finals of the CoD Mobile World Championship will not take place.” A whopping $750,000 was allocated as prizing for this landmark event. Now, it’ll be evenly spread among the eight regional champions since a true LAN final isn’t in the cards. https://twitter.com/PlayCODMobile/status/1336084322072354823 “As a result of the Stage 5 Grand Finals cancellation, the remaining prize pool will be distributed evenly across the Stage 4 Regional Playoff Champions.” That means each team will receive just under $94,000 USD without having to leave their home country. Obviously not how anyone would have liked to see the global event come to an end, though the developers have understandably taken every precaution to avoid any risks. “We do not wish to place players at risk by traveling to a hosted, live event,” they stressed. CoD Mobile scrapping its international finals isn’t the first major event to do so. 2020 has seen the cancellation or alteration of many prestigious events. Even console Call of Duty players were forced to play their $4.6 million championship tournament online. It’s the nature of the beast in such a turbulent year. However, champions in each region can rest assured that they’re still being taken care of. There’s obviously no telling when a global CoD Mobile LAN event could be possible in the future. Though the devs outlined that more plans will be shared relatively soon. So expect to see some announcements on the 2021 pro scene over the coming weeks. We’ll be sure to keep you updated as information comes through.
