With the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 season now over, and eUnited being crowned world champions, fans have turned their attention to the future – specifically, franchising at the start of 2020. The move to follow in the footsteps of the Overwatch League has split fans, with some concerned about the major departure from the system they have become accustomed to. Yet, with huge names like 100 Thieves, Luminosity Gaming, and Team Reciprocity announcing that they won’t be apart of the inaugural Call of Duty League season, some fans are worried for the future – criticizing the league before it’s even gotten underway. That is something that has annoyed former UNITS star Rated, who believes that fans need to give the switch to franchising a chance before waging war against the upcoming changes. On August 30, he tweeted: “People are tweeting franchising ruined CoD before franchising has even happened or had a chance are bottom of the barrel dumb. Yes, it’s sad we won’t have historic names & it’s upsetting, but franchising has just as much chance of exploding CoD as it does killing it [right now].” People who are tweeting franchising ruined CoD before franchsining has even happened or had a chance are bottom of the barrel dumb, yes it’s sad we won’t have the historic names & it’s upsetting but franchising has just as much chance of exploding CoD as it does killing it rn. — Rhys Price (@Rated_COD) August 30, 2019 What Activision Blizzard’s plan for franchising in Call of Duty compared to their Overwatch League remains to be seen, as the only real confirmed details exist around roster construction and playing home/away matches. An exact starting date is also still a mystery, with Johanna Faries, commissioner of Call of Duty esports, only confirming that the league will begin in early 2020 once Modern Warfare has been released for a few months. Even though it will, undoubtedly, be a departure from the current CoD scene – especially with rules where teams are allowed to make mid-series substitutions – pros like Rated are clearly willing to give it a chance.

Rated slams “dumb” people claiming franchising has ‘ruined’ CoD MLGCall of Duty professional Rhys ‘Rated’ Price has slammed CoD fans who believe that franchising has ‘ruined’ the game’s competitive scene already.
