The popular streamer, who has just announced that his next Code Red tournament will not take place on Black Ops 4, but Apex Legends instead, thinks CoD might be playing a bit of catch up at this moment in time. However, he does expect some exciting news from the developer ahead of the next installment, in order to maintain the franchise\u2019s popularity. Despite Call of Duty breaking the digital unit sale record in November of last year, after selling over 4.2 million online copies of Black Ops 4, The Doc predicts that the game will be innovated further in the near future. \u201cI wouldn\u2019t be surprised if we see some major changes to the next Call of Duty, or even the Call of Duty after that. They have to change. They have to change the formula,\u201d he said during a stream on February 13. \u201cThis new generation of kids that are exposed to Fortnite and are being exposed right now toApex Legends, they\u2019re really young kids you know. They didn\u2019t grow up with Call of Duty like we did,\u201d he explained. The new battle royale games are surging in popularity by combining new special abilities, mechanics and old-school first-person shooter gameplay, and he says Call of Duty have got to get ahead of the game. Treyarch introduced the franchise\u2019s first BR game mode last year with Blackout, which can be played in Black Ops 4, but next year\u2019s game is being developed by Infinity Ward\u2013 as many fans will have expected.
