Here’s what you need to know. Call of Duty fans across the globe have been chomping at the bit to get their hands on any early looks and details from the upcoming Modern Warfare release. Infinity Ward has already detailed the multiplayer weapons, killstreaks, and perks – as well as teasing players with the chance to dive into a beta. Yet, one of the new, exciting modes that is coming in Modern Warfare – 2v2 Gunfight – has been confirmed as getting a trial period of its own. So, with that in mind, here’s how you can get to grips with an early playthrough of the 2v2 Gunfight mode. How to download the Modern Warfare Gunfight alpha The 2v2 Gunfight beta has only been confirmed to run on PlayStation 4, so it appears as if Xbox One and PC players are out of luck. To get into the alpha, you’ll just have to download the trial from the PS Store – just as you would with any other game – which can be found by searching for Modern Warfare or Gunfight. It’s available to pre-load from August 22. In even better news, you won’t need to have a PS Plus subscription either, so even the most casual of online players can hop in for a few games. The alpha is set to go live on Friday, August 23 and runs through to Monday, August 26 – so you’ve got a chance to play a full weekend in the new game mode. UPDATE – August 22 After previously announcing that the MW Alpha would be available starting August 23, Infinity Ward turned the servers on a day early, allowing players to get on and start playing on August 22! What maps will be in the Gunfight alpha? Anyone who saw the early multiplayer videos from Infinity Ward, including that first Gunfight stream, will have already seen the maps King, Pine, and Stack and these will be a part of the alpha. They will be joined by the previously unseen maps Speedball and Docks to give you a healthy rotation while testing the new mode to its fullest capacity. What’s the difference between an alpha and a beta? While seasoned Call of Duty players may have played a beta or demo in the past, getting your hands on an Alpha is a pretty new thing. This is different from a beta, as they are usually reserved for polishing up features, stress testing servers and generally making sure everything that everything is working as it should. So, don’t fret if something you want to see in-game is still missing, you might just get a surprise come October 25. So, there you have it – everything you need to know about getting your hands on the Modern Warfare 2v2 Gunfight alpha. Make sure to pick up a friend to watch your back – you won’t want to get stuck with a random who doesn’t use their mic in a teamwork-heavy mode.
