Following the release of Modern Warfare on October 25, players have been encouraged to publicize any glitches or bugs they find. New releases, for obvious reasons, are often fraught with minor bugs and inconsistencies, as well as players giving their feedback on what needs adjusting. Developers often seek players’ help in identifying the most acute bugs, that require quick patches to resolve. One such bug has surfaced via Reddit, which sees Tactical Insertions teleport players outside of the map. Tactical Insertions have been in and out of Call of Duty titles for many years now, allowing players – in place of a tactical or lethal grenade – to nominate a map position where they will next respawn. The player is mid-game, and crouches behind a rover vehicle to place their Tactical Insertion. They are swiftly killed by an enemy but proceed to spawn outside the map, commencing the ‘Restricted Area’ death countdown that has been present in recent CoD titles. They are killed, but continue to spawn outside the map, launching a death-cycle. The glitch garnered a lot of attention – upwards of 1,000 upvotes on Reddit – as players sought to make the post more visible to Infinity Ward staff. Luckily Joe Cecot, Co-Design Director of Multiplayer at Infinity Ward, picked up on the glitch and replied: “Thanks for this. We have never seen this in-house. We’ll get a fix in soon.” The response suggests that the bug evaded Infinity Ward playtesters, reinforcing the need for players to relay bugs back to developers upon the release of a new title. Some Reddit users suggested it was caused by placing the Tac Insert so close to a vehicle, but others replied claiming they had experienced a similar bug after placing their equipment in an open space. Given Cecot’s response, it seems likely we’ll see the problem sorted in an upcoming patch, particularly given the seriousness of the issue.

Infinity Ward respond to crazy ‘teleport’ glitch in Modern Warfare Infinity Ward, developers of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, have responded to a bizarre glitch with Tactical Insertions, which seems to teleport players outside the map, where they are forced to wait for death.
