As Infinity Ward’s ‘Narrative Director’, you’d be somewhat forgiven for thinking Kurosaki’s only involvement was with Modern Warfare’s campaign. While that is undoubtedly a significant part of his work, recent years have seen a number of battle royales incorporating narratives and lore. Players don’t need to look further than Fortnite or Apex Legends, games which feature unique characters and world-bending events. Going off Kurosaki’s comments, it looks like Warzone is set to follow suit. In an April 11 interview with VentureBeat, on the topic of Epic Games’ building battle royale, Kurosaki said: “We’ve talked a lot in the past about whether games like Fortnite have a narrative. I would say yes, absolutely. I’d say Warzone does as well. But for me, it’s in a genre and a tone that I greatly prefer.” VentureBeat asked Kurosaki if Warzone’s “world” will have events like those featured in Fortnite, citing the eclipse that ended the game’s first chapter. Kurosaki responded: “That’s exactly the kind of thing that we’re working on, that we have planned. Again, it’s all going to fit into this macro that we’ve established in Modern Warfare, and that we’ve continued into Warzone.” Kurosaki suggested that Warzone’s narrative will be darker and more adult than those featured in Fortnite – unsurprising given the game’s considerably older target audience. He concluded: “If you know who the players are in Modern Warfare, it’ll all make sense, and it’ll all feel appropriate to the universe.” Modern Warfare welcomed back some fan-favorite characters like Captain Price, and we already have major teasers suggesting the map might be flooded. Whether Infinity Ward will go as far as having a black-hole swallow the map remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like they’ll shake up the in-game environment. If the game does indeed follow Fortnite, we can expect the game’s most significant changes to occur at the beginning of new seasons. Modern Warfare’s next (and fourth) season is set to begin at the start of June.

Infinity Ward reveal plans for ‘Fortnite type’ events in Warzone Epic Games/ActivisionTaylor Kurosaki, Infinity Ward’s Narrative Director, has hinted at ‘Fortnite-like’ events coming to Call of Duty: Warzone in the near future.
