After the success of Modern Warfare in 2019, Activision and Infinity Ward are putting out the next game in their reboot of the Modern Warfare trilogy, calling it Modern Warfare II \u2014 the same as the highly successful MW2 that was released all the way back in 2009. Fans have been speculating about the game for months, especially since it\u2019s rumored to be bringing Warzone 2 with it, with discussions around what it will play like, and how similar it will be to the classic CoD game. With the reveal taking place on June 8, here\u2019s what we learned about the new title. It went live at 10am PT (1pm ET\/6pm BST) on Wednesday, June 8, showing off what the CoD community can expect from the coming game. Major MW2 Multiplayer changes There are a number of big changes coming to Modern Warfare 2\u2019s multiplayer to reign in the new era of Call of Duty. Here are some of the key things revealed on June 8. Full Modern Warfare 2 Gunsmith overhaul The Gunsmith was hugely popular when it first arrived in Modern Warfare (2019) and it\u2019s being changed up in Modern Warfare II. Weapon Platforms allow users to unlock new guns in what is described as a \u201cfamily tree\u201d of guns. For example, you might level up an SMG a certain amount, and begin unlocking other guns that live within that platform. As you play and level up guns, you\u2019re building an arsenal of weapons, allowing you to blur the lines between an SMG and an Assault Rifle, for example. Five new MW2 maps confirmed Five new Modern Warfare 2 maps were confirmed with the reveal, including one inspired by an F1 Grand Prix circuit. Sa\u2019id – Sariff Bay – Museum – Grand Prix – Farm 18 Training Facility – Movement and vehicles changes There are a number of changes to movement, mobility, and vehicles coming to MW2 and Warzone 2. The improved water system allows players to traverse maps by swimming, and you\u2019ll also be able to hang off of ledges. As for vehicles, amphibious vehicles will be arriving to take advantage of all of the new water, while a helicopter troop carrier will make it easier to take your squad wherever you need to go. Not only that, but you\u2019ll be able to lean out of vehicles to shoot enemies, too. Warzone 2 confirmed for 2022 Warzone launched in March 2020 and became an immediate hit the world over, with top players from all other games descending upon Verdansk to fight it out in the Call of Duty battle royale. Speculation around Warzone 2 has been rife for months, but it\u2019s now been confirmed that \u201ca new Warzone 2.0 experience\u201d will be released this year, in 2022. This comes after numerous rumors that the game could be held behind closed doors into 2023. They\u2019re also bringing \u201clethal\u201d AI bots to the game alongside Modern Warfare 2, as well as providing updates on the RICOCHET anti-cheat, which will be operating within both games from Day 1. Modern Warfare 2 campaign With the new Call of Duty comes a brand new campaign, a continuation that comes three years after 2019\u2019s Modern Warfare. Infinity Ward have even provided a huge host of details on the upcoming campaign and its opening missions, which will see TF141 operating across the globe. One mission even looks set to be a spiritual sequel to CoD 4: Modern Warfare\u2019s All Ghillied Up.
