The current Batman arc is doing a lot to make The Joker seem like a huge threat. The Joker: Year One isn’t just retconning his past, it’s setting up where he’ll go in the future. The issue takes place across two timelines. In one flashback timeline, we learn how Joker underwent mental training similar to Batman’s, which resulted in the alleged “Three Jokers,” in fact, revealed as multiple backup personalities similar to Zur-En-Arrh. But the second timeline, set in the future, has unveiled perhaps the creepiest Joker design ever. Naturally, Reddit had something else in mind. Fans compare DC’s creepiest Joker to a Courage the Cowardly Dog episode Multiple Reddit threads popped up this week talking about The Joker’s appearance in Batman #143. In the story, an older Joker has taken over Gotham City in the future. The Joker is presented as an eerie, mythical figure. He’s got a thin, emaciated build as he rises from the river, resulting in a terrifying Joker results straight out of a horror movie. Naturally, fans only saw a Courage the Cowardly Dog character. “Return the slaaaaaaaaabbb” one user chimed in on one Reddit thread. “If you want to stop me, Bats, you need to return the slab.” another said. “I instantly thought of this episode of Courage! 😂” one user said in another thread full of users making similar pleas to “return the slab”. The Redditors are referencing King Ramses’ Curse, an episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog that originally aired in 2000. The episode sees Eustace in possession of King Ramses’ slab. Ramses appears as a ghastly figure, imploring Eustace to return the slab and terrorizing the family. While Joker isn’t asking to get a slab back, he is proving to be a terror. The story sees him having taken over Gotham City with a virus that spreads through laughter and reveals he’s even managed to infect the Bat-family.
