Dobrik is a massively popular face across social media, boasting over 16 million subscribers on his primary YouTube channel, where he uploads short-form videos of his crazy stunts with the “vlog squad.” His antics have earned him fame throughout the net and has even won him multiple awards in the online entertainment space — but becoming a full-time vlogger hadn’t always been his primary aspiration. During a February 27 video interview with PAPER, Dobrik opened up about his initial hopes for his YouTube career, admitting that he’d first wanted to become a gaming YouTuber. However, the equipment he’d purchased to record his gameplay never ended up working, leading to an entirely different turn in his content creation journey. “I used to watch like, video game YouTubers, and that’s what I wanted to do,” he explained. “I bought the PVR to record my video games, and it never worked, so I never did the whole ‘video game YouTuber’ thing.” That’s not all; according to the vlogger, he’s actually thankful his equipment never worked, expressing gratitude that he eventually transitioned into his current role in the YouTube space instead of grinding the video game life. “Thank goodness it didn’t work,” he continued. “I like this a lot better.
