For years I\u2019ve wanted to be black, I\u2019m tired of being white\u2026 \u201cLet\u2019s just get to the point: I am now identifying as a black man. As an African American. I no longer wish to be identified as a white man\u2026 That\u2019s not who I am anymore. I\u2019ve been wanting to make that change for a long time.\u201d Shortly after the livestream on Wednesday, February 16, Facebook Gaming acknowledged the incident and spoke out about Banfield, claiming that they have \u201ccut ties with the creator in question.\u201d They added that Banfield had been removed from their official programs, including monetization features, with immediate effect. In one post, he revealed that he had been demonetized, saying that \u201cwe live in a world where we are free to change genders and therefore this must apply to race as well.\u201d In another post, he questioned Facebook Gaming referring to his announcement as \u2018hate speech\u2019. \u201cWhich part exactly [is hate speech]?\u201d he asked. \u201cThe simple fact is that denying anyone the ability to self identify as any race they choose and denying them to celebrate all the related holidays is discrimination.\u201d In a follow-up comment, he stated that \u201cThe only way this makes sense is if I am not allowed to define myself as black because of my current skin tone which by definition is discrimination.\u201d Banfield\u2019s Facebook page itself is still up at the time of writing, but needless to say, many are upset by the comments he made already.
