Although Paul respected this outcome, he stated that he wished to challenge the commission\u2019s two-point deduction for hitting KSI while he was downed in the fourth round. Despite KSI openly mocking Paul\u2019s appeal, \u201cThe Maverick\u201d went through with his plan, anyway \u2013 which, unsurprisingly, was denied a month later. Paul announced the news in a video on December 11, where he published a statement from Andy Foster of the California State Athletic Commission regarding his appeal that revealed he had actually been ahead on two cards, but ultimately lost due to this point deduction. \u201cKSI won the match under the rules of the commission,\u201d the message reads. \u201cYou were ahead on two cards, but KSI won the net points due to point deductions from fouls you committed.\u201d Unsurprisingly, Paul was not pleased with this outcome, but acknowledged the fact that he had lost the rematch due to his own mistakes during the bout. \u201cI can\u2019t say I did not see this coming,\u201d he admitted. \u201cSo KSI has, officially, without a question or a doubt, won the fight against me. It\u2019s not great. You know, if I\u2019m being honest, it stings. I hate to lose. It mostly stings though, because I shot myself in the foot. I quite literally only lost because of my actions.\u201d Paul went on to claim that he only person he was fighting against in the ring was himself, and expressed hope of finally defeating himself as his \u201cown worst enemy\u201d in future bouts.
