On June 7, NICKMERCS published a tweet in response to a video of a massive brawl taking place outside a school in Glendale, California. The fight was reportedly sparked by a school board meeting discussing the recognition of Pride Month on campus, which was approved by unanimous decision later that day, as told by the LA Times. NICKMERCS\u2019s response to the post argued that the education of LGBTQIA+ topics should not be taught in schools, writing, \u201cThey should leave little children alone. That\u2019s the real issue.\u201d His reply sparked outrage from many other streamers, creators, and fans, who were quick to speak out against Nick\u2019s statement, calling his post \u201canti-LGBTQ+.\u201d NICKMERCS addresses controversial Pride Month tweet Less than a day later, NICKMERCS addressed the situation during a live stream, saying that he didn\u2019t mean to offend anyone with his post but stands by what he said. \u201cI just don\u2019t think it\u2019s any place for a teacher or a school \u2014 I don\u2019t think it\u2019s the place to speak about things like that,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not that I think it shouldn\u2019t be spoken about. If that\u2019s what you got from that tweet, then you\u2019re just wrong.\u201d \u201cI don\u2019t have any quarrel with anybody in here,\u201d he continued. \u201cI don\u2019t have any quarrel with people on the internet. It wasn\u2019t an anti \u2014 I guess \u2014 gay tweet. That wasn\u2019t what it was. If you think that I hate you because you\u2019re a certain way, you couldn\u2019t be any more wrong.\u201d \u201cI want to be the one \u2014 and my wife wants to be the one \u2014 to speak with our child about stuff like that. And that was the tweet. \u2026I didn\u2019t mean to upset anybody. I know that I did. I\u2019m not apologizing about the tweet, because I don\u2019t feel like it\u2019s wrong. I\u2019m gonna stand by what I said.\u201d That said, Nick offered an apology to esports broadcaster Puckett, who\u2019d criticized his post, claiming he \u201cmight have brought a little bit of sh*t his way\u201d amid the initial situation the previous day.
