The 2019 Streamy Awards took place on December 13 and looked to highlight the efforts of content creators around the world. With 50 awards in total, the annual show shines the spotlight on all manner of categories from gaming to fashion, nominating a number of popular personalities within each. Taking home the creator of the year award, controversial YouTuber Tana Mongeau was brought up on stage by Casey Neistat in a broadcast that has since been viewed over three million times. Among the viewers was PewDiePie, who disagreed with the selection and had some choice words to say in a December 17 YouTube video of his own. With ten creators nominated for their efforts throughout 2019, this particular Streamy Award category acknowledged the likes of Jimmy “MrBeast” Donaldson and Tyler ‘Ninja’ Blevins. Getting excited over the latter, PewDiePie addressed how he believed that it was “obvious” MrBeast would win the award. “He had such an amazing impact this year, his growth has been insane,” he elaborated. “He’s like the one channel that doesn’t have any big controversy. He’s done good on the platform. Some of the other nominations are good, but it’s obvious MrBeast is gonna win it.” To his surprise, Mongeau was announced as the winner and all the Swedish YouTuber could help but do was highlight what he perceived as flaws in the show overall, reacting sarcastically all the while. “Really nice of Tana to come out in her pajamas,” he joked. “When Tana said ‘I don’t deserve this,’ we all felt that… You literally don’t deserve it, that’s why you feel like that,” he continued. “I hate Tana mainly because she promotes drugs to her 14-year-old audience,” he explained, before showing a brief highlight reel of various cases of such promotion throughout her content. From Adderall to Cannabis the YouTuber with over five million subscribers appears to flaunt her drug use while the cameras are rolling. “That’s creator of the year?” Outlining how his reaction is mostly in jest, he emphasized how he places little significance on award shows of this kind, stating “everyone knows [they] are fake anyways. It’s all politics.” “I literally don’t even keep my awards that I have actually gotten because I don’t feel proud of them, it doesn’t mean anything.” Despite being the channel with the third most subscribers on all of YouTube at just over 102 million, PewDiePie hasn’t been nominated in a single category at the Streamy Awards 2016. Fellow YouTuber Ethan Klein of H3H3 reacted in a similar manner in a since-deleted post, joking that her win was “well deserved.”

PewDiePie slams Streamy Awards for honoring ‘undeserving’ Tana Mongeau YouTube sensation Felix ‘PewDiePie‘ Kjellberg has taken aim at Tana Mongeau and the Streamy Awards, after the controversial vlogger was named ‘content creator of the year’ at the 2019 event.
