On February 18, popular Mixer streamer Ninja nearly broke the internet with a tweet about his visceral attitude to gaming, particularly relating to how he reacts after losing. “When you stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice,” he said. In the immediate aftermath, all corners of the internet gave their take. From KSI to Lil Nas X, everyone had an opinion on Ninja’s divisive tweet. Some agreed with him, arguing that a mentality like that is the only way to be truly successful. Others were more skeptical and argued that video games shouldn’t be taken that seriously. The phrase “it’s just a game” is such a weak mindset. You are ok with what happened, losing, imperfection of a craft. When you stop getting angry after losing, you’ve lost twice. There’s always something to learn, and always room for improvement, never settle. — Ninja (@Ninja) February 18, 2020 One notable opinion was absent though; that of PewDiePie, who was in the midst of a month-long hiatus from all things internet. He returned on February 21 with a signature meme video, in which he broke his silence on Ninja’s widely-discussed tweet. In his video, Pewds decided it was finally time to comment on Ninja’s “hot takes” – and he did so in just the way you’d expect; with memes. (Timestamp for mobile users: 6:45) The Swede found some funny responses to Ninja’s tweet, including one about the game ‘Nintendogs’. In a similar rant on his channel, Ninja asked: “Can you imagine telling LeBron James, Tom Brady [that it’s just a game]?” PewDiePie mocked this attitude by sharing a comparison to LeBron James, the NBA legend who has in the past described basketball as a game, even after losing a tough series in the playoffs. He then watched another version of Ninja’s words, chuckling to himself and describing it as “so good”. Given PewDiePie’s humorous nature and the format in which his response occurred, we wouldn’t read too much into his memeing of Ninja. He certainly didn’t feel as strongly about it as some others, as the debate surrounding the tweet continues. At the time of writing, it has over 22,000 replies.

PewDiePie weighs in on Ninja’s infamous “it’s just a game” tweet YouTube: PewDiePie/Mixer: NinjaYouTube King Felix ‘PewDiePie‘ Kjellberg has weighed in on Tyler ‘Ninja‘ Blevins’ controversial ‘losing mentality’ tweet, as he returned from a month-long internet hiatus.
