After the two tragic mass shootings that occurred in El Paso, Texas on August 3 and in Dayton, Ohio on August 4, politicians and current US President laid some of the blame onto video games for their violent nature, claiming that they had some influence on the shooters\u2019 actions. The gaming community was outraged by the comments and refuted them heavily, with many players stating that video games had never influenced or caused them to be violent. However, Pokimane had something to say about the backlash during her stream on August 5. Pokimane thinks the outrage is hypocritical While reading Rod \u2018Slasher\u2019 Breslau\u2019s tweet about the President\u2019s comments during the broadcast, the Twitch star addressed the fury from video game players. \u201cOhhhh, and you know what\u2019s kinda troll too?\u201d she asked. \u201cThat like, we\u2019ve let the President say and get away with so much shit.\u201d She added: \u201cAnd then he attacks\u2026 he attacks video games and we\u2019re like \u201cRACISM! I can allow that! But video games? Uh-uh-uh!’\u201d she laughed as she wagged her finger back and forth, struggling to contain her amusement. The Moroccan-Canadian then explained how she wished she could go back to Canada to avoid the political debate over video games altogether. \u201cAnyways, yeah, I\u2019m not going to sit here and talk like I know that much about politics, but I\u2019m just going to say this makes me want to go back to Canada where my video games are appreciated.\u201d The US Presidents statement on video games Pokimane\u2019s reaction came after the US President issued a speech to condemn \u201cgruesome and grisly\u201d video games, following the Texas and Ohio mass shootings. \u201cWe must stop the glorification of violence in our society. This includes the gruesome and grisly video games that are now commonplace. It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves in a culture that celebrates violence. We should stop or substantially reduce this and it has to begin immediately,\u201d he stated.
