Simp, a North American term the Oxford Dictionary defines as \u201ca silly or foolish person\u201d, has been bastardized by the internet and is more commonly used to degrade a person who seeks affection from someone else. The term \u2018simp\u2019 has become a popular insult on Twitch, YouTube, and Twitter for those who defend or praise female content creators. Pokimane\u2019s community is often in the crosshairs of \u2018simp\u2019 hate as a portion of her viewers is younger boys seeking the streamer\u2019s attention. During a ban appeal segment on her June 26 stream, Pokimane reviewed the ban of a user who was \u201cgoing through a simp hunting phase.\u201d To which the streamer opened up about her feelings towards \u2018simp\u2019 haters. Pokimane disapproves of \u2018simp\u2019 hate While reviewing a ban appeal from a user who was calling other viewers simps, Pokimane expressed to the user why he shouldn\u2019t use \u2018simp\u2019 as an insult. She wrote that, if the user\u2019s parents are still together, their dad probably simps for their mom, and expressed that \u2018simping\u2019 is just a normal part of loving other human beings. She then addressed her viewers further communicating why she disagrees with the matter. \u201cIsn\u2019t it weird young boys are being told \u2018simping\u2019 is so terrible? \u2018If you\u2019re doting on a women, it\u2019s so terrible.\u2019 But it\u2019s not.\u201d Pokimane went on to call \u2018simp\u2019 hate \u201csexist\u201d and even claimed that it \u201creinforces so much lowkey misogyny\u201d. She then opened up about how the negative connotations associated with \u2018simps\u2019 have affected her. \u201cThroughout my entire career as a female streamer, I have sensed \u2013 on numerous occasions \u2013 my male counterparts or male friends being afraid to stand up for me because they will be labeled simps,\u201d Pokimane stated. \u201cHow else can you describe that but some weird internalized misogyny?\u201d At the end of 2020, Twitch banned the use of the word \u2018simp\u2019 following a revamp of the platform\u2019s harassment policies.
