From scholastic book fairs to field trips, elementary school is grounds for some of the best memories as a grade student. And if you’re really lucky — a teacher will make an imprint on your life. For one first-grade class, that’s exactly what they have to look forward to, as their teacher took it upon herself to take her entire class on a mock trip to Mexico for Hispanic Heritage Month. Teacher turned her classroom into a Mexican restaurant for Hispanic Heritage Month Sonja White is a first-grade teacher in the Dalles Fort-Worth Metropolitan Area in Texas. However, she’s not your average grade school teacher, as she’s been known to be quite extravagant in her teaching methods. Having already taught her class lessons on interviewing, how to cash a paycheck and handle money, as well as plenty of craft projects, White recently took her entire first-grade class on a mock trip to Mexico. Not only did White take passport photos of her students and laminate their boarding passes, but she also had each student pack a “carry-on” for their fake flight. What’s more, White bought snacks for makeshift airplane snacks for each student. She even had a text overlay on her TikTok video saying, “Flight 555 non-stop to Mexico.” Oh, but the fun doesn’t end there! While the students sat on their assigned airplane seats, White played a video of a plane taking off to add to the effect. Some students even had neck pillows that they brought from home. She also aligned the trip to Mexico with the student’s “payday” where each classmate received $10 to buy a gift for themselves or their loved ones while on their ‘travels.’ To end their trip, the mother of a student made authentic Spanish food for White’s Mexican restaurant she set up in her classroom. As the kids enjoyed rice, enchiladas, and chips & salsa, they smiled ear to ear. Her viral TikTok of the trip to Mexico has already reached three million people and has over 33K comments praising White for her efforts. Those who commented said that teachers like White are ones that students will “always remember.” While others said, “This is so cute, omg. Teaching them these experiences will help them so much.” As well as, “You know what this really is? Life skills! You’re amazing!” White’s trip to Mexico for her class wasn’t for any reason either. She was actually celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. And though the students had to eventually ‘fly’ back home after their mock trip, the happiness on their faces was enough to say that they enjoyed both celebrating and learning at the same time.

Teacher’s “trip to Mexico” with first grade class amazes millions on TikTok TikTok: sonjawhite_teachA first-grade teacher went above and beyond for her class by taking them on a mock trip to Mexico.
