During a Twitch panel at the annual event, mmDust said that he has a “low-key god complex” and thinks of himself “as above the average person.” The comments quickly spread on social media where he was blasted from all angles after many concluded the statements were very much in bad taste. After letting things simmer for a few days, mmDust finally spoke out in a TwitLonger to explain just what he was thinking during the panel. Addressing my actions from Twitchcon Read: https://t.co/MmB72VkHl9 — Michael Duarte (@mmDust) October 31, 2018 He starts out by saying that admitting that what he said was “stupid” and wasn’t an accurate representation of who he is before getting to the meat of his statements at TwitchCon. “The whole ‘I believe that I’m better than the average person’ thing is a mindset that I’ve acquired as a result of my personal lack of self discipline and motivation. I struggled with this for years,” explained mmDust on the main comments that drew so much backlash. Further explaining that he would frequently tell himself “You’re better than that” when skipping a workout or cheating on his diet, mmDust said this mindset was healthy for him but that he simply expressed it the wrong way during the panel. “What I was really saying was that I don’t WANT my viewers to relate to me because I am so far from where I want to be,” added mmDust, as he said that complains a lot on stream and doesn’t want his viewers to try and relate or copy his behavior. mmDust closed out his letter by once again apologizing and lamenting the fact that he waited so long to speak out.
