TikTok: kristyncoleParents all over have started a new trend for their little ones to cut back on sugar and increase the mysticism of Halloween. Whether it’s a yard full of ghouls and goblins or a basket full of fall essentials, Halloween is known to get spooky. And with the highly celebrated holiday right around the corner, parents all over have begun preparing for the neighborhood trick-or-treaters and their own kids. However, Halloween may look slightly different for some children, as parents started a new trend called the ‘switch witch.’ But what is it? Parents of TikTok debate if their children would like the ‘switch witch’ or not Parents have taken to TikTok to show others their alternative Halloween plans for their children. Parents have decided to bring the ‘switch witch’ into the mix to maintain how much candy a child has. First, the children trick-or-treat around the neighborhood, collecting as much candy as usual. Then, when they get home, each child gets to keep just a few pieces of candy. The children then leave their candy buckets outside their front door so the ‘switch witch’ can come and trade the candy for a cool toy. The following day, when the child awakes, they see the fun items that the ‘switch witch’ has left them. In reality, the ‘switch witch’ is the child’s parent, but that is unbeknownst to them, making Halloween even more mystical than it already is. Many people who have seen the viral trend on TikTok have commented on what a great idea it is, saying, “My kids would be down for this!! They like the experience of going out, but don’t really eat the candy.” As well as, “I’m doing this this year! My son only likes Reese’s so he’s picking a toy!” However, some people did oppose it, as they noted that their children wouldn’t be open to exchanging their candy for a toy, saying, “Unfortunately, my child would want the candy over anything, lol.” As well as, “As a candy hoarder as a child I know I would have not been besties with the switch witch, hahaha very cool idea though!!” Another cool thing about the ‘switch witch’ is that although a child may only be able to keep a few pieces of candy, parents can keep the excess throughout the year and treat their kids to it, making for a year-round Halloween party!

What does it mean to ‘switch witch’ during Halloween?
