In a video uploaded to TikTok, a man shared his unique strategy for tricking waiters into thinking that he\u2019s tipping them, so that they think he\u2019s \u201cextra nice.\u201d The \u2018trick?\u2019 Ryan made a weird gesticulation with his fingers, moving them around in a motion that makes it seem as though he\u2019s tipping. He claimed: \u201cSo, I\u2019ll never tip at a coffee shop, but, when they flip the iPad around, I do this thing with my fingers where I kind of like, make it look like I\u2019m pressing into the $1 but then I just use my middle finger to click on \u2018no tip.\u2019\u201d \u201cPretending to tip is more fun and you save a dollar,\u201d he wrote in the video\u2019s caption. After the video was posted however, not everyone found his \u2018hack\u2019 so useful. \u201cThey see the total?\u201d one asked, clearly bemused. \u201cUmmm, just hit \u2018no tip\u2019\u2026 they can see the total, and they know what the cost is without tip. This isn\u2019t a trick,\u201d another agreed. Others however, didn\u2019t even think his \u2018trick,\u2019 was necessary: \u201cI just hit no tip and then make direct eye contact. What are they going to tell me? Nothing.\u201d Some waiting staff were frustrated with the creator, writing: \u201cI literally love your videos, but I\u2019m a barista and tips at coffee shops aren\u2019t new. You\u2019re not punishing company\u2019s for tipping culture by not tipping, just employees. This is such a shitty take.\u201d It appears, however, that the video\u2019s creator, who regularly posts sketches on the platform, may have been pranking TikTok all along.
