Getting a victory royale, whether its your first or your 100th, is the sweetest feeling in all of Fortnite, so making sure it feels appropriately rewarding and ‘epic’ is absolutely vital. The old victory royale screen had remained unchanged since the game’s launch, and no one really had any major complaints about it – but that didn’t stop the developers from always looking for improvements. The signature golden ‘#1’ stays as well as the text ‘victory royale’, so in terms of the actual screen image itself it isn’t that big a change. It’s the new slow motion animation added that makes all the difference. Instead of the game instantly stopping as soon as the final elimination comes in, there is now an awesome slow-motion effect, really giving the winning moment some extra flair. It certainly makes winning a game feel and look even better, and should be particularly special during the upcoming competitive tournaments which will be watched by millions. OpTic Gaming’s Jack “CouRage” Dunlop managed to snag a win with his first game of Season 5, and was not expecting the dramatic new victory animation. FIRST GAME OF SEASON 5 = VICTORY!!! BRAND NEW VICTORY ROYALE SCREEN! It goes slo-mo!!! #Fortnite pic.twitter.com/egknA1yT1U — OpTic CouRage (@CouRageJD) July 12, 2018 It’s another reminder of Epic Games incredible attention to detail, that even with all the big changes, including new map zones, a vehicle and lots of new skins, they are still looking to make small improvements. It should also contribute to the overall longevity of the game, as keeping the game feeling fresh can come down to just the small things if players are playing for months and months on end – as many Fortnite fans have been.
