Epic Games surprised many on January 24 when they confirmed that Chapter 2, Season 1 would be extended past the original early-February release date, with the scheduled release now set for February 20. The biggest news though was the fact that Fortnite would be moving to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics engine, which could see a monumental shift in the way the game is played and what it feels like. While many are excited about the prospect of playing on a brand-new engine and the new innovations it could allow the developers to add to the popular battle royale title, streamer SypherPK is anxious about the switch-over. While talking to his audience on stream, SypherPK started to break down the announcement from Epic Games, reading the news about the new engine before sharing his concerns ahead of the patch’s release. “Beginning with the release of the 11.50 update in early February, Fortnite will be moving to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics engine,” he read. “At launch, the goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite.” That’s a scary line. ‘The goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite.’ That means it’s going to be a huge change to the fundamentals of the game. I’ve already seen some leaks of what the Chaos physics engine implies. I’ve been through games that have had major overhauls and it completely doesn’t feel like the same game.” What the Chaos physics engine could mean for Fortnite going forward remains to be seen, but a change of engine is a major occurrence and means the way the entire game runs will be completely changed, and could mean mechanics like building or shooting have to be changed to accommodate the way that Fortnite is now built. There is currently no official release date for the v11.50 update, but with Epic confirming that it will appear in early February, it’s possible we could see it as early as Tuesday, February 4.

SypherPK explains why he’s nervous about Fortnite’s “scary” v11.50 update Epic Games / Twitch: SypherPKPopular Fortnite streamer Ali ‘SypherPK‘ Hassan has revealed that he’s nervous about the games upcoming v11.50 update, which is set to overhaul the game thanks to a brand-new engine.
