The year 2019 has been touted as ‘the year of Fortnite esports’ by many esports insiders in the past, and now fans are starting to see what they meant – with a $30 million prize pool up for grabs in just the World Cup alone. While that might sound like a huge opportunity for players involved in the battle royale game’s competitive scene, HighDistortion has stressed the need for competitors to choose their organizations wisely to prevent any disappointment further down the line. Reaching out to fellow players in a Twitter post on April 2, the pro warned young players about the ways in which they could potentially be taken advantage of as tournament prize pools increase in size. “Don’t sign into an organization, so you can say that you’re a pro, that takes 25%-50% of your prize pool winnings and doesn’t give you a salary,” he tweeted. Dont sign into an org(so u can say u r pro) that takes 25%-50% of your prize pool winnings and doesnt give you a salary or worse yet you pay a percentage of stream rev to be in the org. They only signin you on the chance u strike big at WC and they taking a nice cut of millions! — TSM HighDistortion (@HighDistortion) April 2, 2019 “They are only signing you on the chance that you strike big at the World Cup,” he added. “Then, they take a nice cut of millions!” HighDistortion is not the only high profile name in Fortnite’s online community looking out for upcoming players, though, as fellow pros Brett ‘Dakotaz’ Hoffman, NRG’s Sven “Svennoss” Edelenbosch and Counter Logic Gaming’s Sam “WishYouLuckk” Salcedo echoing the same sentiments. & always make sure to find a lawyer who can really tell you about the contract and help you rewrite it to look out for you. — dakotaz (@dakotaz) April 2, 2019 The amount of people that can’t read properly and ask you why you’re still in TSM  Quality tips. Don’t let orgs fuck you over, especially not with 20%+ of price pools if they don’t even pay you a good chunk a month.— Code: Svennoss (@Svenosss) April 2, 2019 There are orgs rn who are heVuly represented in FN that take 50% winnings and 25% subscriber revenue from twitch. It’s insane to think someone would sign that dotted line. — CLG Wish (@WishYaLuckk) April 2, 2019 The Fortnite World Cup is set to take place between April 13 and June 16, with each player “guaranteed” to take home at least $50,000 for competing – according to Epic Games. Whether or not budding players, who are looking to make it into the pro scene, take this advice from HighDistortion and others on board remains to be seen.

TSM’s High Distortion offers warning for free agent Fortnite pros ahead of World Cup HighDistortion / Epic GamesTeam SoloMid’s Fortnite World Cup, with organizations on the lookout for top talents.
