Square Enix\u2019s decision to sell off its western studios and a series of beloved IPs was announced earlier this week, and we now know what that\u2019ll mean for the company\u2019s Marvel titles; Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel\u2019s Avengers. Developers Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics were part of a deal that saw Embracer Group pick up the studios, and it appears the Marvel licensing is going too, subject to Disney approval. Marvel\u2019s Avengers to be continued after Square Enix split Analyst David Gibson, from MST Financial (thanks Metro), notes that the two Marvel titles launched so far have cost Square Enix $200 million, perhaps underlining why the studios were included in the deal. In an earnings call, Embracer Group noted that the company is intending to publish both Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel\u2019s Avengers \u2014 subject to Disney\u2019s approval. Whether or not that means Marvel\u2019s Avengers will enjoy additional new content following the launch of a new Thor variant in the coming months or if development winds down on the title in the aftermath remains to be seen. For Guardians of the Galaxy, a single-player, campaign-based game, that likely doesn\u2019t mean any change \u2014 although given its impressive critical response there could be the potential for a sequel.
