Developed by Valve Corporation, Steam initially launched in 2003 on PC’s around the world and quickly found itself a mainstay in the gaming industry. In 2019, the way in which the platform looks and functions will be forever changed. In a beta opened to the public on September 17, users can opt in to test the new model and get a glimpse into the future design of the software. What’s new in the beta: To begin with, the library page has seen a drastic shift. In the same vein as music playlists, the brand new ‘custom shelves’ are where you can highlight your favorite titles, line up games of a similar genre, and so on. This customization is all made simpler by the ability to drag and drop games next to one another. Opening the page of a specific game will now treat you to an abundance of information from the recent activity of your friends, to updates from the developers. At the top of the page you’ll also find a new post-game summary that highlights all of the accomplishments throughout your most recent session.
