It’s been over 10 years since Left 4 Dead 2 first released and there’s no telling how much longer fans will have to wait for the third installment of the popular multiplayer survival horror series. While there have been plenty of leaks and rumors about L4D3, it’s always been nothing more than speculation, since there hasn’t even been official confirmation that the game is back in development after Valve allegedly canceled production back in 2017. However, on January 17, HTC president Alvin Wang Graylin posted something on Twitter that gave the indication L4D3 is not only in development, but will be released in VR. Read More: Cyberpunk 2077 delayed – Appearing at the Golden V awards, Graylin, who is the Vice-Chair for the Industry of VR Alliance and President of VR Venture Capital Alliance, made a presentation about the future of VR and included the game as part of it. On the ‘2020 VR Trends’ slide of his presentation, Graylin suggested that “L4D3 and Half-Life: Alyx will drive consumer and AAA studio interest.” A few slides from my talk tonight… pic.twitter.com/bHegijjZW1 — Alvin Wang Graylin (汪丛青) (@AGraylin) January 17, 2020 Since Valve has not announced anything about L4D3 being in development, Graylin’s presentation may have given that away, in addition to revealing that it will be in VR. Half-Life: Alyx VR, on the other hand, has been confirmed by Valve, so the fact that both were listed together by someone who knows what he’s talking about gives credence to the speculation that the next Left 4 Dead is indeed being developed. However, with Half-Life: Alyx scheduled for a March 2020 release, it’s inevitably pushed L4D3 further down Valve’s pipeline, so it’s hard to formulate a potential time table for when it’ll be released. It must be noted, the idea that L4D3 could be developed as a VR game isn’t new – it was initially leaked/suggested by Valve News Network creator Tyler McVicker, who stated, back on December 9, that “Left 4 Dead VR is real.” Videos are finally back tomorrow. Boneworks is out on Tuesday. Left 4 Dead VR is real. The game awards is in a few days, with new Half-Life Alyx news. Get your minds ready, it’s about to blow. — Tyler McVicker (@Tyler_McV) December 9, 2019 Graylin’s January 17 presentation certainly reaffirms that initial leak, making it more and more likely that a VR version of Left 4 Dead will indeed be releasing after all. UPDATE – January 17 Shortly following the publishing of this article, Valve released a statement to IGN claiming that they’re “absolutely” not currently developing L4D3, despite the recent flurry of leaks and Graylin’s presentation. “We’ve seen rumors to this effect for the last couple of months,” Valve said in the statement. “We did briefly explore some Left 4 Dead next-gen opportunities a few years ago. But we are absolutely not working on anything L4D related now, and haven’t for years.” “It’s clear some people are having fun creating misinformation to spin up the community and other outlets.
