A number of Titanfall 2 players suspected their computers had been compromised after launching the game, claiming the client was affected by an exploit that allowed hackers to gain access to their computers. The fear intensified after community member ‘DirectXeon’ urging players to “please uninstall the game and do not launch it. However, Respawn looked into it and claimed it was nothing more than a “simple exploit” that could be used to crash games. “We are aware of reports of a security vulnerability affecting Titanfall 2 and are investigating,” they said. “Our engineers believe that we’re dealing with a simple exploit that can be used to crash games. They eventually got to the bottom of what they described as a “game-crashing exploit” and shipped an update to address it. However, as far as the other claims go, they found no evidence of any “serious vulnerabilities.” They promised to “keep an eye out for further issues,” but concluded that the case was more or less closed for the time being. Our team has shipped an update to address the game-crashing exploit. We found no evidence of any more serious vulnerabilities. We’ll keep an eye out for further issues but consider this one to be closed. — Respawn (@Respawn) September 10, 2021 It comes after multiple hacks in 2021 in both Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends. Most notably, in July, hackers shut down Apex Legends with the message “Save Titanfall”. It took Respawn 24 hours to fix the servers.
