Since its 2020 release, a lot has been said about the size and shape of the PlayStation 5. The unit is somewhat jarring compared to the simple rectangle of the Xbox Series X or the tablet design of the Nintendo Switch. The reality is the PlayStation 5 is a juggernaut of a gaming console, something that sticks out in a room. Even the new PS5 Slim is only a minor size reduction, still dominating any shelf it’s placed on. One YouTuber has already been designing low-profile PS5s, but he took it one step further with his latest build. DIY Perks designs first-ever all-in-one PlayStation 5 tablet in jaw-dropping mod YouTuber DIY Perks has been making PS5 redesigns since launch, from his wood-panel encased “stealth” PS5 to his alarmingly small original PS5 slim design. His latest design goes above and beyond, though. He’s designed the first-ever all-in-one PS5 tablet, a design that improves on the best aspects of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation Portal. As DIY Perks host Matt explained, he did this because Sony hadn’t ventured into the handheld market for over a decade, discounting the PlayStation Portal as a true handheld since it only streams games. The tablet edition PS5 is the real deal, made by cobbling together a PS5 motherboard with various other components, including a dedicated sub-woofer and a gorgeous OLED harvested from an Alienware laptop. Much of the video focuses on the trials of creating such a device. While it is theoretically entirely possible for any user to make this themselves, it did require some unorthodox steps, like knowing how to electroplate a block with nickel and understanding how to arrange copper piping to get the best heat distribution. Regardless, the end project is a genuinely stunning piece of work. With 3D-printed elements, the device is designed to look like a finished project, and it might put the latest Sony releases to shame. Sadly, the PS5 Tablet is just a fun hobbyist idea for now, but you can still order a PlayStation Portal for yourself – assuming you can find them in stock.

YouTuber turns PS5 into “tablet” in astonishing mod DIY PerksYouTuber DIY Perks has expanded on his line of custom PS5s with a brand-new PlayStation 5 tablet, a stunning all-in-one answer to the Steam Deck.
