However from the get-go there has been controversy revolving around Forest Watcher Tighnari and his English voice actor Elliot Gindi. The Genshin Impact community is divided over how Tighnari is pronounced, with some calling the English localization \u201cracist\u201d. Gindi \u2014 along with Aether\u2019s voice actor Zach Aguilar \u2014 have defended the pronunciation in-game though. \u201cI\u2019ve got to be honest here \u2014 Tighnari, or whatever people are insist you pronounce it as \u2014 is not a name you hear very often,\u201d Gindi said on stream with Aguilar. \u201cI\u2019m Middle Eastern but my grandmother was ahead of the curve and was like \u2018racism? Everyone gets European names.\u2019 She did it back in the Middle East. \u201cI would say it however the client wanted but even so I wouldn\u2019t even make the mistake. I\u2019ve never seen this name before in my life, I\u2019ve never heard this. \u201cBetween the period of the trailer coming out and Collei says his name and you\u2019ve got all these people going on \u2018actually you have to say it like this\u2019 and I\u2019m like you really think all these white people are going to say that properly? Surely it\u2019s on purpose.\u201d The response angered some fans who said Gindi was \u201cbasically mocking people who want Tighnari\u2019s name to be pronounced correctly\u201d, and that the excuse of other names being mispronounced in the game doesn\u2019t make it right. Aguilar defended Gindi: \u201cIn every game that I\u2019ve worked on, it\u2019s not always to a T. In the final production of it, sometimes things slip through the cracks. Some people roll r\u2019s on a name and another doesn\u2019t, specifically for Japanese pronunciations.\u201d While the pronunciation of Tighnari\u2019s name is one thing, some players are also concerned about Gindi\u2019s conduct on social media. Old screenshots from Gindi using racial slurs emerged in the aftermath, which he apologized for on September 6: \u201cI was pretty ignorant in 2017, I listened to the wrong voices. Does my ignorance make it okay? Absolutely not, and ahead of all this I have already reached out to and apologized to both people in that conversation privately.\u201d It comes after the Genshin Impact community went after Dori\u2019s voice actor, Anjali Kunapaneni, was harassed by fans after the character was deemed \u201ctoo white\u201d by some.
