The UFC commentator previously revealed that Kanye West even offered to remodel the studio for him, and while he didn’t spring for that idea, Joe has considered doing away with the studio set-up altogether. The pair began by discussing some of the advancements that video game developers had made in recent years, such as the ever-improving graphics that are making games more realistic than ever before. Joe Rogan explained that he wanted to see gaming reach a stage where fans would benefit from immersing themselves in VR: “My hope for the future is that games are like that and you will be actually able to exercise doing that.” “If you had a game where you’re in a warehouse and you’re actually running for your life, demons are chasing you, you’re shooting down things, your heart rate would be jacked,” Rogan explained. As noted, Rogan has only been shifted off top spot in the UK charts and maintains his top billing in the US. Though, he has got New Heights from Jason and Travis Kelce hot on his tail there. He’ll likely regain the top spot in the UK when another big episode is released. Plus, Spotify Wrapped 2023 is just around the corner and he’s probably going to dominate that for the most part as well.

On July 25, Tucker uploaded an episode with former US Presidential candidate Ben Carson. The episode was seemingly enough to put him over the edge, as that same day, his show became Spotify’s top podcast. Rogan even featured Tucker Carlson on his show back in April of 2024 where the two had a lively three-hour conversation. This is hardly the first time that Joe Rogan’d podcast has slipped into second-place in the rankings. Throughout his years on Spotify, a number of creators have briefly managed to secure the top spot. In 2021, The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ crew took the Spotify crown when they debuted ‘The Always Sunny Podcast,’ where the gang provided insight into certain episodes and how they came about. TikTok star Alix Earle also managed to dethrone Rogan back in 2023 when she launched her Hot Mess podcast. In 2024, JRE lost his top ranking to the Kelce brothers and their New Heights podcast after the Kansas City Chiefs made their way to the Super Bowl. It’s not clear how long Tucker will manage to stay on top, especially with Rogan’s history of bouncing back – but for the time being, there’s a new Spotify podcast king.

Rogan famously shut down attempts from Donald Trump to be a guest during his presidential run, and it’s now been revealed he also did the same to Andrew Tate. It happened back in 2019, before Tate was as prevalent as he is, as Jones was asked by Tate to pass on a good word to Rogan and “recommend” him for the show. When he did, Rogan shut it down on the basis that he was too busy. “Yeah he’s been trying to get on my podcast for a while,” Rogan responded, according to the SPLC’s findings. “I’m way over booked right now.” Rogan has since been supportive of Tate, who is currently held in custody by Romanian authorities on suspicion of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group. Tate denies all the allegations. The JRE host also said that the controversial influencer taught “good lessons” before being removed from a number of social media platforms.

Now, he has a wide range of familiar faces that pop up to talk about everything you think of – especially when it comes to the weird and wacky side of the internet. That move to Spotify, which netted Rogan a reported $200 million deal, hasn’t had too many knock-on effects for his show. It still brings in massive listener figures after all. Though, there are some times it loses out on top spot on the podcast charts. Joe Rogan overtaken by random new podcast on Spotify As of May 18, that has happened again, with the JRE Podcast falling to second place to the UK chart behind a brand-new podcast known as The Meer Show. What’s weird about this podcast is that it’s only 20 minutes in length and isn’t backed by Spotify like some of the previous challengers to Rogan’s throne. Instead, it’s from Meer Jangi, Grace, and Bailey, three popular figures on TikTok – which has been the launching pad for their podcast. “Over the past 4 weeks we have become trending, gaining up to 25k viewers on our lives at once,” they told Dexerto. “We decided to make the podcast 5 days ago for our followers and then promoted the link from there which boosted our podcast listens and we were able to get really positive feedback from our fans!” It is unusual to see such a random podcast jump right into the top spot, especially when they’ve only got one episode. It hasn’t had the same success on Apple Podcasts, though, only reaching 28 in the UK charts. Ultimately, it likely won’t be long before Rogan takes the top spot back and it is more recognized podcasts that are right up there alongside him.

On August 19 the LA Mayor’s office announced that they had cut off electricity to the house, due to the “flagrant violation of our public health orders” the huge parties, and others like it, had posed. The reaction to this decision has been broadly mixed, many considering it to be fair justice for the breaking of regulations, but others questioning whether the decision is actually justifiable. Joe Rogan is among the latter group, and went into detail as to why in episode 1529 of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast with Whitney Cummings and Annie Lederman. “Who the f**k are they to tell you you can’t have a party. You have mismanaged this crisis so horribly,” he said, discussing the role the federal and local governments have had to play in the regulating of group sizes. Joe has made no secret of his growing disdain for LA, recently making the decision to move his podcast to Texas. He goes on to express his frustration with the LA mayoral authorities. “The fact that they can shut down these TikTokkers, we should be nervous. Elon Musk recently announced that he would be resuming operations at one of his Tesla plants, despite many critics arguing against it, and Eddie Bravo posited his theory that it could be part of a plan to extend some of the lockdown measures further. While he himself hoped his theory would turn out to be incorrect, Eddie turned to Joe for his opinions on the latest criticisms and theories around the popular entrepreneur. “Eddie you have to listen to his words and see what his actions are,” Joe explained in defense of Musk. “He – against the government of California – opened up his plant. Out with the brick wall with the American flag — there’s a somewhat decidedly more futuristic feel to Rogan’s new set. The new studio has been a long time in the making. In recent weeks, Rogan has been sharing a lot of photos and videos on Instagram walking through the simpler setup. Finally, on September 3, it was “complete and ready to roll.” It’s a much simpler setup. There’s not as many wires and ornaments strayed across the desk. He has replaced his Buddha statue with one of Ganesha, the god of new beginnings and the removal of obstacles in Hindu faith. Rather fitting for his new setup. He invited back an old friend to debut the new studio with — Adam Curry. Last appearing on JRE in March 2020, Curry mentioned that “the only thing better than being on the Joe Rogan show, is being invited back to the Joe Rogan show.” The two didn’t make any small talk about the new setup, but given Rogan has put a lot of time, effort, and money into it, you’d hope he’d be pretty pleased with it. The set has divided Rogan’s fans, however. While some have heaped praise onto the new setup in Texas, others are already begging for Rogan to bring the old set back. “Seriously hate the studio, ruins the whole vibe,” one commenter said. “At this point I’d rather have a greenscreen of the old studio,” said another. Essentially, two people will slap each other until one backs down. Indeed, heading to one these previously ‘underground’ contests was all part of Logan’s plan. That is, until he dealt one devastating blow. It was this devastating blow that was the hot topic of conversation with Rogan and his fellow stand-up comedians during his March 14 episode of Fight Companion. After mulling over Paul’s spar with UFC superstar, Paulo Costa, the gang moved onto the potential bout between Logan and Bellator Middleweight, Dillon Danis. However, before diving into the specifics of how the pair would weigh-up, Rogan referenced Paul’s notorious slap. “Did you see Logan slap that guy unconscious?” the podcast host asked. After pulling up the snippet of Logan’s video, Rogan proceeded: “Look at this. During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience with Dave Portnoy as the guest, Rogan and Portnoy explained why they think its “crazy” people are rooting for Tate’s demise. Portnoy & Rogan say rooting for Andrew Tate’s demise is “crazy” While talking about Tate during the podcast, Dave Portnoy and Joe Rogan began talking about his recent charges in Romania and how people are rooting for him to be locked away for a long time. “You’re still crazy to root for that because you’re not thinking about the victims. Basically, that means a lot of people were hurt,” Dave said. Joe responded: “It means that if it’s true, they want him to be punished. But hoping that it is true when it isn’t true is not good either. At the end of 2020, Joe Rogan made a massive step in taking his podcast to new levels by signing a mega exclusivity deal with Spotify, as the streaming service is the only place to find full-length episodes of the JRE shows. While the deal has been a success for both parties, Spotify has taken flak for pushing Rogan in such a major way, especially amid allegations of racist remarks made by the UFC commentator in past podcasts. Throughout 2021, and through parts of 2022, Spotify has been pushed to drop their deal with Rogan, but they haven’t done so. There have been changes made to the show – some episodes now have content warnings and some have been removed – but the podcast host retains creative control. Joe Rogan credits Spotify for sticking with him One of Spotify’s main defenses of Rogan has been that they won’t and can’t censor rappers or other artists on their platform, which the podcast host praised them for. Speaking with comedian Paul Virzi on episode 1843, Rogan claimed that trying to get someone fired has become “a new sport” for some. “They love to attack someone’s sponsors… They’ll go after their sponsors or try to get their videos removed from YouTube,” Rogan said. “It only really works if companies give into it. To Spotify’s credit, one of the brilliant things that they did was nothing. They just said ‘you know we’re not going to censor rappers. We’re not going to stop them from saying what they want to say. We’re not going to stop Joe, either. According to Distefano, Steve Cohen’s wife had hired him to perform some standup at a private 60th birthday event and was expecting the sports team owner’s entire family to be there. Instead, the comedian had to deal with just Cohen and his ten of his friends who had no idea comedy was even supposed to happen. “A sixty-year-old billionaire doesn’t know who the f**k I am,” he explained, which got a groan out of Rogan. Distefano further explained that the entire setup didn’t include a microphone or any lights, just a small room with ten guys eating dinner. To make matter worse, Cohen’s assistant even claimed that “it doesn’t feel like they’re gonna like you,” which made Joe burst out laughing. Eventually, Chris tried doing his bit, but failed horribly, with some of the men chirping him and even throwing a piece of shrimp at him. However, Cohen stepped up, offering to double the comedian’s pay if he was able to make him laugh with his best five minutes. After trying his David Letterman set, Cohen actually laughed and agreed to double his pay, but not before the comedian was asked to sign a bunch of NDAs about the event. Distefano suspected that the NDAs were due to the location and time of the private event and proceeded to discuss it the next day on his own podcast with Sal Vulcano – which resulted in him getting threats by Cohen’s legal team. However, Cohen’s family was a big fan of the podcast and had sent him private Instagram DMs praising him and sure enough, the lawyers backed off. “The family now has become friends of mine,” Chris explained, recalling how he’s been able to attend games for free. During one event, Steve even gave the comedian a chance to redeem himself by doing a set during a rain delay, but that ended up being a disaster too. “Oh my God,” Rogan broke down in hysterics learning how Distefano had bombed at the Mets game while wearing a floral shirt and a small microphone attached to his clothing. “I’m bombing in front of 30,000. Steve Cohen and his friends, by the way, are dying laughing cause they knew it was going to happen. And Steve goes, ‘you’re alright man.’” Luckily, despite the two horrible sets, Distefano ended up making a pretty high-profile friend in the process – something that Joe Rogan absolutely lost his mind over.

Despite having just five fights to his name in his brief combat sports career, Paul has already dealt with multiple opponent swaps and event shuffles. He and Tommy Fury were initially set to clash in 2021 before plans fell through and Tyron Woodley stepped in. The two were then linked to a fight once again in 2022 with a date at Madison Square Garden set for August 6. History repeated itself, however, as Fury backed out of the fight a second time. While 12-1 pro boxer Hasim Rahman Jr. took the challenge as a short-notice replacement, he ultimately couldn’t make the date due to weight-cut disputes. While Fury’s troubles are one thing, veteran UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes this latest contest wasn’t actually called off for the reasons cited. Although it may have played a factor, the more critical reason is a general lack of interest in the matchup, he argued on the August 2 episode of his JRE podcast. “Most likely it was canceled for numerous reasons,” Rogan said when discussing the scrapped PPV. “[Weight issues] may have been one of them, but the allegations I’m hearing are that they sold so few tickets that it would be a real problem financially.” Having booked Madison Square Garden for the August 6 event, Paul initially planned to throw down against Fury, a highly anticipated matchup featuring two big draws. However, with Rahman Jr. added to the mix instead, the ‘world’s most famous arena’ now seemed too ambitious for the fight, according to Rogan. “They had only sold a million dollars worth of tickets,” he claimed. “If you want to turn the lights on in Madison Square Garden, it costs half a million dollars. There are thousands of people who were previously convicted of simple possession who may be denied employment, housing, or educational opportunities as a result. My pardon will remove this burden.” He also called for governors to pardon simple state marijuana possession offenses, as nobody should be in a local jail or state prison for it.
