Often regarded as one the greatest combat sports athletes of all time, ‘The Spider’ is best known for holding the longest UFC title reign in history. The Brazillian star won 16 fights in a row from 2006 to 2012, marking an undefeated record for the MMA promotion at the time. Since parting ways with the UFC and retiring from MMA in 2021, 47-year-old Silva has turned his attention to boxing. He’s got two wins over Tyron Woodley under his belt, as well as wins over Nate Diaz and Ben Askren, but he’s been inactive since that win over Woodley. There have been rumors that he’s eyeing up a rematch with Fury, should the British reality TV star defeat KSI on October 14, as well as talks that Jake might finally fight KSI himself. However, a new contender has seemingly entered the fray – former WWE star Matt Riddle. Jake Paul could fight Matt Riddle after WWE release That’s according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, as the longtime wrestling and MMA reporter revealed that there have been plans for talks about a fight happening between Riddle and Paul. In the October 6 edition of Meltzer’s weekly newsletter, he states that these talks could only be categorized as “very preliminary” and there’s no word if it’d be a boxing event rather than a mixed martial arts clash. Paul has a deal with the PFL to make his MMA debut in their Super Fights division, however, that has yet to happen. Though he has promised that it’d be against a big name once it does happen. Despite having focused on professional wrestling for the past decade, Riddle does have experience inside the MMA cage. He previously fought under the UFC and walked away with an 8-3-0 record. Riddle was recently let go from the WWE after a long spell on the sidelines. He had been off WWE programming due to controversy outside of the ring, including accusing a Port Authority officer in JFK Airport of sexual assault. He has a three-month non-compete clause from his WWE deal that won’t expire until the end of 2023, and it’s likely he’d have to wait for that to be up before tangling with Jake. So, it remains to be seen if it’ll happen.

Their first clash came back in August 2021 when the younger Paul brother insulted the way that White treats the fighters that work in the UFC and he’s come right back to that point to kick things off again. Jake Paul takes more shots at Dana White after another boxing cancelation Just like when he called for the UFC’s head honcho to raise pay rates and offer insurance to his fighters, JP took to Twitter to prod the lead man once again. “Dana I know you’re proud of me,” the tweet reads. “It’s still ‘pay your fighters more’ and give them healthcare.” The quote is also attached to a clip from Paul’s Dana White Diss Track video that The Problem Child uploaded back in January where he insinuates that White is obsessed with the NELK Boys and is participating in extramarital affairs. On the other side, the bossman did recently claim that the young upstart might need some better management around him and that the Fury/Rahman Jr. might have still gone down if he had better people watching over his career. The veteran of the fighting game hasn’t been willing to engage the direct smack talk too much yet, but if Paul keeps pushing buttons then who knows what might happen next?

While the main event itself was delayed quite significantly on the day, it didn’t take long for Mayweather to close the show, getting Deji out of there in round six. Dancing between rounds and seemingly having a blast, it didn’t appear much phased Mayweather in the ring. However it now appears something, or rather someone, did agitate him before he’d even made the walk: Jake Paul. The two have certainly had their history, given Paul’s older brother went the distance with Mayweather back in 2021. There was the infamous ‘got your hat’ moment at an earlier press conference and ever since, the two have been bickering on social media. Now, it appears they had to be separated in Dubai as Mayweather allegedly wouldn’t head to the ring for his main event contest against Deji with Paul in attendance. “Floyd wouldn’t fight unless I left,” Paul claimed in an Instagram story just moments after the main event got underway. “Shallow ego,” he added. On the broadcast, announcers killed time for more than half an hour between the co-main and main event. While this is nothing out of the ordinary for a Mayweather event, often keeping fans waiting, it appears the reason for this particular delay is due to the younger Paul brother’s antics. Having gotten on the microphone after Tommy Fury’s performance, Paul got into a heated back and forth with both him and his shirtless dad John Fury. This explosive tirade seemingly caused Mayweather to have his team escort Paul from the building. Moreover, Paul also took the opportunity to once again staredown with Andrew Tate and even blast long-time rival KSI. Deji’s older brother allegedly “refused to be seated near [him],” as Paul claimed he “didn’t see him” once during the event. “Hide and go seek.” For now, we only have Paul’s word to go off. But if these antics are anything to go by, it’s clear the social media star has plenty of options for future opponents heading into 2023.
