To create an accurate height chart, YouTuber Mike Majlak is measuring some of the net’s top creators. It’s no secret that celebrities’ heights can be surprising. Actors like Tom Cruise, for instance, are much shorter than most people would think. His larger-than-life presence on screen causes viewers to think he’s taller than his actual 5’7″ frame. Influencers are also often questioned about their height — and looking it up on Google might not always produce accurate results (especially if some creators aren’t always honest about their height). That’s why YouTube star Mike Majlak set out to find the exact heights of social media’s biggest stars, showing himself measuring names like Bradley Martyn, Adam22, and Harry Jowsey in a January 19 episode of The Night Shift. How SweeetTails uses viral TikToks to combat Twitch discoverability You may know SweeetTails as the boisterous variety streamer on Twitch or from one of her hundreds of hilarious viral clips on TikTok, and Dexerto recently picked her brain regarding how she converts her virality into live viewers and relationships. SweeetTails – don’t forget the third ‘e’ – is a lover of gaming, streaming, and content creation. And over the past four years, she’s been able to turn these passions into a full-time career thanks to the tools she has at hand. Not tools as in her gaming skills, pastel controller, or high-quality setup. No, instead she uses multiple platforms to reach a broader community and funnel her fans back to her live content. And it’s impossible to deny that it’s working. With 467k followers on Twitch, she averages 5.2k viewers a stream, and her 2.8 million followers on TikTok make sure each of her posts glides past 1 million views with some reaching beyond the 10 million view mark. In an interview with Dexerto, SweeetTails spilled the tea on how she’s used her success on TikTok to grow her platform on Twitch. How SweeetTails started creating content At the beginning of her content creation days, SweeetTails started the same way many infant social media users do. Working to make her social pages like Myspace, Facebook, and Instagram look as cool and appealing as possible. “I’ve always made content, but I sucked at it. And that’s the truth!” SweeetTails told Dexerto. “I’ve always had this feeling to be a creator. Like, I had it in me. But I think it’s so important as a content creator to find something that you’re passionate about. And you have to have that, otherwise, the odds will likely be against you..” “Four years ago was when I first heard about Twitch, even though I have been a gamer my whole life. My friend explained that it was a platform where you can stream video games live and people will watch you. I was like, ‘this is exactly what I was meant to do.’” What inspired her to turn streaming and content creation into a full-time career is the love she has for gaming. Twitch and what it was doing for the gaming industry around 2018 really spoke to SweeetTails. Following a “bad breakup” Tails moved back home with her parents and began streaming Call of Duty, however, she considered herself a variety streamer from the start. “When I first started streaming, it was a slow start but I always had pretty good momentum. I remember starting at around 20 viewers and it just took off from there.” She stated that she hasn’t “gone backward” in terms of growth and contributes partially to the success of COD. “I think I was really able to tap into the Call of Duty community, and that’s what really helped me to take off, however, I still felt like I wasn’t fulfilling myself entirely regarding content which is why I started to branch out and become a variety streamer.” Why SweeetTails chose TikTok We asked Tails what her first impressions of TikTok were and why she decided to use it as her main tool for growing her fanbase on other platforms. “Initially I hated TikTok and didn’t jump on the bandwagon when it first came out – it took me a while to download it.” “At the time, gaming wasn’t as big as it is now in the TikTok space, but there were a few content creators that were posting in the now “normalized” format that really inspired me to do the same.” SweeetTails attributes fellow creator and friend Kruzadar with pioneering the popular TikTok gaming format where the player’s face is on the top of the screen and the gameplay is on the bottom. “She is still, to this day, one of my biggest inspirations. TikTok is a pretty amazing tool that has come into all of our lives as content creators. And if you’re not utilizing it, you’re f**king dumb. I don’t know how else to say it. “I would not be where I am today if I did not have TikTok. And I have no problem admitting that.” When asked if ALL streamers should be using TikTok, her response was near instantaneous. “Yes! F**k yes! You have to take advantage of the tools that are in front of you. Don’t be lazy. You should be posting twice a day on TikTok to at least help you get started. Period.” Learning platforms and changing her content SweeetTails’ content on TikTok evolved from gaming-oriented sketch comedy to stream highlights. She started out on TikTok trying to adapt the platform’s trends to fit a gaming audience but found that these videos didn’t feel like they were 100% her. “I think it’s important to continuously research and study the platform that you’re on because the algorithms are constantly evolving and you have to also. When I started to upload highlights of my stream is when I started to really take off because it was authentically who I am.” Her organic content started to pick up traction which queued her to change the content she produced for TikTok. Leaving skits behind, SweeetTails’ short-form content has become almost entirely made up of highlights from her Twitch streams. When giving advice on how to make a good TikTok, Tails says 1. Don’t care what other people think, just post, and 2. Be authentic. And she states that even though she rarely posts a TikTok that gets less than a million views, she is still learning about TikTok’s algorithm and how she can evolve her content to perform better. How SweeetTails converts her TikTok followers to Twitch chatters When it comes to growing on Twitch, SweeetTails echoed the concerns of many streamers before her: Twitch lacks discoverability. But thankfully, platforms like TikTok allow streamers to post content in hopes to convert those views into live viewers. SweeetTails stated that a lot of people know her just from her TikToks, and she is recognized in public more often for her TikTok videos rather than her actual streams. And she boils this conundrum down to discoverability. “You’re talking millions and millions of views [on TikTok]. My job, as a content creator, is to get those people to come over to my Twitch and watch me live. I’ve seen such amazing growth from that. While also exposing people to Twitch because you’d be surprised by how many people don’t even know what Twitch is.” She also theorized that Twitch will likely see the most growth over the next year now that Twitch partners are able to co-stream on TikTok as well. “Community-wise, it’s more important to get people to come over to my Twitch and chat with me there because I can really build relationships with those viewers and interact with them. Because of this more personalized experience, it is my hope they will come back and they usually do. This is far more rewarding than the quick feeling you get from TikTok and scrolling through those videos.” Understanding your value as a streamer on Twitch While Twitch is definitely the largest platform in terms of live streaming, that doesn’t mean it will always be on top. With more and more platforms throwing their hat in the ring – YouTube, Facebook, etc. – online live streaming is growing at an insane pace. “As content creators, I think it’s very important that we all understand our value and make sure that we make the right decisions. At the end of the day, you have to do what’s best for you and your community. “Sometimes making big decisions can be scary. There are so many more options than there were four years ago. The streaming industry is completely different. You make the right decisions for yourself, and don’t be scared to do it.” In light of Twitch’s recent revenue share changes, streamers have to consider their platform options now more than ever. While some streamers have built their communities on Twitch, a platform like YouTube with a 70/30 subscription split may look more enticing. But for SweeetTails, making the switch to another platform may not be as rough a transition as it would be for a content creator who doesn’t utilize TikTok. She’s already shown it’s possible to funnel a significant amount of viewers from TikTok to Twitch, and could do the same for any other platform she chooses to call her home.

However, his viewership numbers are being rivaled by a YouTuber who has only a third of that amount. According to an analysis by Paddy Galloway, a YouTuber with 200,000 subs himself, he believes SSSniperWolf — a Call of Duty player turned reaction channel star — has cracked the code. “SSSniperwolf has gone from a Call of Duty gamer girl to the biggest reaction channel on YouTube,” he said. “And listen to this, right now she’s getting more monthly views than MrBeast’s main channel. “Now, of course, she uploads more videos,” he added. “But it still poses an interesting question. What is SSSniperWolf doing that is different [from] other YouTubers?” He concluded it all boils down to three simple factors. Factor One: Making Evergreen Videos The first point he mentions is that she switched to making evergreen videos. “She has managed to make her channel an evergreen machine,” he said. “[They’re] videos that don’t have an expiry date. “It doesn’t matter if the viewer sees the video seven days after it was uploaded or seven months. The content is still relevant and interesting,” he added. “The majority of Lia’s uploads in recent years have this trait, which is why they continue to pull in residual views over time.” “A lot of reaction channels are based around the latest trend or meme. But Lia essentially reacts to evergreen content herself,” he said. “She curates a list of highly viral videos from social media, YouTube, or TikTok, and then builds an evergreen theme around them.” Factor Two: Trapping The Viewer The second point he mentions is that she “traps the viewer in her content.” He says, “it’s important to squeeze as much watch time as your viewer as possible. Lia does this by eliminating her exit points, which are moments in a video that cause people to leave.” Some examples of her doing that include a three-second intro, getting into the reaction early, cutting all bridging sentences, and dynamic editing with fast-paced cuts, zooms, and effects. Factor Three: Becoming A Clickbait Master The third and final point he mentions is that she’s become a clickbait master. She uses vivid colors in her thumbnails mixed with images that evoke a sense of curiosity. However, more importantly, she uses dramatic expressions such as being puzzled, shocked, and happy. The job of a social media manager: take a dull, corporate brand account, and integrate it with the broader social media conversation, in turn getting the brand’s name out there and gaining followers, and hopefully, customers. Perhaps the most famous examples come from the fast-food industry, with the likes of Wendy’s and McDonald’s doing a stellar job of turning brand accounts into “sh*tposting”, and as a result going viral over and over again. But, the novelty has worn off somewhat, and nowadays brands are mocked for trying to be “down with the lingo” on Twitter. In 2023, a fresh approach is needed, one Opera GX’s Twitter maestro has mastered. The secret to Opera GX’s Twitter success If you’ve been active on Twitter in 2023, it’s pretty safe bet that you’ve seen one of the many viral posts from Opera GX. The account has over 800,000 followers, on its way to 1 million – despite only having around 60,000 at the start of the year. In June alone, the account’s following has doubled. We had the chance to speak to the person behind this viral success, and get an understanding of how it happened. How long have you been in this role, and is it your first social media role? If not, what have you done previously? This is my first social media role, my first job to be honest. I got hired by Opera straight after finishing my A-levels since I previously helped produce content for them. When it comes to making memes, I have plenty of experience. I’ve been producing content online for years though – on different platforms and in different styles. I started when I was just 14 years old, so I didn’t really keep consistent branding. I made memes on Instagram, Reddit and YouTube. You may have seen reposts of them without knowing that it was 16-year-old me behind them. I was contributing to the community on Discord on a volunteer basis and Opera hired me once I turned 18. It was actually my first time opening Twitter when I logged in to use the brand account. I had zero experience on this platform when I took over the role last September. The beauty of working online is that you don’t need any education to be successful. Don’t let your age or background ever hold you back! What does a typical “day in the life” look like in this role? The daily social media grind consists of waking up before sunrise and then proceeding to be online every hour of the day. On office days, I bike to work and complete my daily tasks. Many people assume that I just do the account, but I also help a lot with marketing campaigns, forwarding bug reports, creating mockups and reaching out to brands for potential partnerships. The normal 9-5 workday is largely focused on non-social related tasks, since there isn’t a lot of activity online at those times. Throughout the day, I check Twitter and our other social media accounts for news and try to respond to user requests and comments. “After” work I usually take a short break, however, at around 8 PM CET, that’s when we see peak activity on Twitter and I get back to my laptop to upload the daily sh*tposts. I create all the posts myself, though I work together with a few friends to get the title just right and check for mistakes. The social media work consists largely of spotting trending tweets or topics to capitalize on. While checking Twitter, I do my chores, watch some shows or play games. This is why I can fire out a good 100 replies per day. I go to bed at the healthy hour of 2 AM – sleep is generally overrated. The account is almost never used to highlight features or directly encourage people to download the browser – how deliberate is this? It is 100% deliberate. I am quite honest about this as well. The brand account is not used to promote a product directly, since nobody wants to follow an account for daily updates about their browser. Besides, the Opera GX brand is very similar to my posts. We like to have fun campaigns and don’t take ourselves too seriously in other channels either. I think everyone is on the same page that the “shitposting” on a company account is still considered marketing to some degree. It’s just hilarious to see a brand account actually posting like an individual and even picking fights with other brands. There have been some, let’s say, risky posts and memes on the account – how do these come about? Do you seek approval first, or are you entrusted to never cross the line? We used to have a whole system for approvals of riskier posts on our account. There are a great deal of checks and balances for ensuring every post is morally righteous, factually correct and non-inflammatory. Nowadays, we post what we feel is hilarious. We have enough experience to the point where I believe everyone knows that what we do is 100% satire. We stay clear of politics though, as any brand should. Aside from some basic guidelines it’s a free-for-all. If it’s funny, I’ll post it. You are keeping your identity concealed – why? I think each fan of the account should be free to imagine how the account admin looks like and who he is. Anonymity is definitely the right route to go as I think Opera GX works better as a concept than a real person – a brand that does not care about what people think about it and is fighting the good fight. I hope that this is how the account is perceived. Using a brand account for personal promotion would just feel wrong. I also imagine I’d get a lot of bricks thrown through my windows for some of the things I say and stand for, so I’d better not advertise myself too much. Personally, I think that Twitter is too inflammatory and is one of the platforms in which the most heated debates can form easily. However, it is also one of the most censorship-free platforms. The “Community Notes” feature was probably the most useful aspect to be added during Elon’s reign. It is great for fighting misinformation and it’s also just plain funny. The “For You” page benefits our account a lot. With some sneaky tricks you can really make it work in your favor. If you have $10K to spare I might reveal my secrets. The Brit was much more active with his punches, throwing and landing close to double what his longtime rival did across the eight-round contest. There had been some talk that the fight would be a “winner take all” deal, and despite the pair agreeing to it, it doesn’t appear as if the paperwork was signed as Jake has claimed he had a nice payday. How much did Jake Paul make fighting Tommy Fury? According to previous reports ahead of the fight, Jake was slated to make $3.2 million just for taking part in the fight – and that’s before factoring in any sort of win or potential knockout bonus. He was also set to make 65% of the pay-per-view split, compared to Tommy’s 35%. Those figures won’t be revealed for a while, but Jake has given a little insight to how it was tracking. Toast explained that streamers generate revenue in four different ways – through donations, subscriptions, advertisements, and sponsorships. While donations and advertisements are fairly straightforward, Twitch’s subscription system features multiple tiers, which are then split either 50-50 or 70-30 with streamers depending on their status with the company. Ninja, for example, is a top-tier streamer with over 121,000 subscribers – which means that he earns around $423,500 a month through subscriptions alone, according to Toast’s calculations. Shroud, on the other hand, reels in around $148,750 through subscriptions. Those numbers don’t even count higher tier subscriptions, which range from $9.99 – $24.99, if offered by a partnered streamer. Streamers can also make dough through sponsorship deals, such as being paid to play a certain game on stream. Streamers can earn as much as one cent per hour, or one dollar per viewer – which can add up to massive amounts of money through larger audiences. Toast himself stated that he could make up to $10,000 through sponsored streams, due to his general average of 10,000 viewers. However, many factors can go into how much partners get paid, from the amount of money a company offers them to how large (or generous) their audience is. Toast himself makes around $2,500 monthly through donations and around $4,000 through advertisements (without spamming the ad button). Combined with his subscriber revenue, this adds up to quite a pretty penny in one month. In sum, Twitch’s top streamers likely aren’t hurting for funds – but their deep pockets are ultimately thanks to their fans.

A genius aspect of his approach to content is that more brands want to work with him as he continues to grow, and he can charge increasing amounts for a spot in a video. Brands pay the larger figure and this allows him to make more attention-grabbing videos. It’s a circle of sustainable growth and nobody knows where the ceiling is — if it exists at all. After having previously been tapped by Honey, MrBeast is now connected to e-commerce company Shopify, who he gives a shout-out during his video. We don’t know the terms of this deal but the chances of him doing it for free, considering that he’s trying to increase his income as much as possible, are slim. He also has a suite of supporting YouTube channels which he produces in multiple languages that were designed to generate income allowing him to support himself even if his main channel loses money. The likes of MrBeast Shorts, MrBeast Gaming, Beast Reacts, MrBeast 2, and Beast Philanthropy all exist to allow his original MrBeast channel to be a loss leader that grants him the maximum amount of attention. Other ventures What’s a content creator without merchandise? MrBeast has bespoke lines of clothing that range from standard ‘Beast’ apparel to chocolate. He even launched a range of clothing for his MrBeast Burger venture. Launching a burger chain across the United States, MrBeast gave away $100 with every order placed at the first location he opened. After starting with 300 locations in the US, the brand then reached a whopping 1,000 stores as it expanded to Europe and the rest of North America. It proved to be a hit with MrBeast Burger hitting $100 million in revenue in July 2022. This is a milestone in the world of YouTube creators, investing in new revenue streams and will no doubt inspire others to try something new. Sticking with his food-based creations, he then went on to launch Feastables. However, unlike MrBeast Burger, the new chocolate bar brand got off to a bitter start and resulted in him losing $1.3 million in just 10 minutes due to a celebratory giveaway. Although it’s not clear exactly how much revenue the venture has brought in, he’s continued to donate the sweet treats on regular occasions. Next up for MrBeast and his fans may well be an exclusive membership club. Much like with Team Liquid, Envy, and Cloud9 in esports in recent months, a membership scheme typically provides exclusive perks such as additional content, behind-the-scenes insights, and early access to merchandise. As per MrBeast’s musings on his secondary Twitter account, he would charge $10 a month for fans to access exclusive content like a “podcast” and “occasional random videos.” 100% of the revenue he would earn from the hypothetical club would go towards his videos, furthering his mission. Now that we’ve established that MrBeast both makes and gives away an absolute fortune, it’s interesting to try and contextualize why he’s adopted this extreme genre of content that comes with such eye-watering cost. Spoiler: it’s all for impact. The 26-year-old is a true philanthropist and his long-term goal is to maximize his earning potential just to give it all away. According to a tweet in August 2020, he wants to open “hundreds of homeless shelters” and “food banks” as vehicles for transferring his wealth. In a recent video, he made this happen as he documented creating 100 water wells around Africa. While he’s losing a lot of money through the stunts he pulls on his main channel, he’s able to demand more and more from advertisers who want to get in front of his ever-growing audience. Just in case anybody questions his dedication to this noble cause, he has promised that he’ll die with “0 dollars in [his] bank” and is determined to forego a “materialistic life” often adopted by those with fame and fortune.

On November 24, MrBeast finally uploaded his rendition of Netflix’s #1 show, Squid Game, which pits desperate debtors against each other in various children’s games for a massive cash prize. MrBeast’s Squid Game rendition goes viral While fans have seen MrBeast share in-progress pictures of his crew building out the sets for his Squid Game (or rather, MrBeast Game), his attention to detail in each set was mind-blowing when the full scale of the project was actually revealed. The creator included several games from the show, including Red Light Green Light, Tug of War, Dalgona, and, of course, marbles. However, MrBeast’s versions of the deadly show were decidedly less life-or-death; the YouTuber outfitted all 456 players with props that would explode with a ‘bang’ when they were eliminated, and would ‘play dead’ after losing a challenge. MrBeast also had a different spin on certain games; rather than allowing the nighttime beatdown that happened in episode 3, he made players compete against each other in a game of ‘ddakji.’ The influencer also switched up the show’s final challenge, ‘Squid Game,’ instead opting for a high stakes game of musical chairs set to music from the series — and although they created a full-scale model of the Red Light Green Light robot, she didn’t have any motion detecting sensors or swivel her head around. In keeping with the show, player 456 lasted right up until the final game — but it was player 079 who ended up bringing home the $456,000 cash prize. This latest work from MrBeast shows that the content creator is pulling out all the stops to stay on top of the YouTube game, and it’s clear that his efforts aren’t going to waste.

I’d rather not burn out, so I need to not believe those intrusive thoughts.” Elyse Myers shares advice for TikTok success Elyse also had a few words of advice for aspiring content creators to help with their mental health struggles, which she was elated to share. “Don’t feel like you have to alter yourself or your content or your story to be more digestible for people. You don’t owe anybody that kind of edit and power over your life,” she explained. “The more you can actually talk about things that are happening in your life, the more you can create content that is truthful and honest and something that you’re passionate about, and the more you can create from an authentic place — the more joy you are going to find in it, and the less you’re going to burn out. Dixie’s twenty-minute interview with Greene was the center of the latest episode of her YouTube series, The Early Late Show with Dixie D’Amelio. The episode premiered on Sunday 20 June. How do The Hollywood Fix find celebrities? One thing Dixie asked Fletcher was something he admitted he was “asked a lot”: How is he able to find and track down celebrities? “From seeing the same people over and over again and being intertwined in society you get an idea of where they like to hang out,” he said. He gave the example of Saddle Ranch, a popular LA restaurant frequented by TikTokers. But it isn’t just intuition that helps him find celebrities. He told Dixie that a lot of fans would message him tipping him off about the locations of celebrities, and, to D’Amelio’s visible shock, admitted that he has a “massive database of license plates” on his phone to help him identify and track celebrities. Later in the interview, Fletcher took D’Amelio on the road so she could see the process first-hand for herself. As well as keeping an eye out for iconic celebrity cars like Addison Rae’s (now-blue) Telsa, the photographer circled areas such as rapper Travis Scott’s office, a gym frequented by the likes of Bryce Hall, Vanessa Hudgens, and Adam Lavine, and various other exclusive hotspots like the Forma Pilates centre. It was there that they found model and fellow influencer Alexis Ren. As Fletcher got to work with his camera crew, Dixie sheepishly said to the camera: “I’m sorry, Alexis.” In terms of his interview process, Greene said to Dixie that it was paramount for paparazzi to “get the most out of a question” to make sure the answer you get is as juicy — and clickable — as possible. “A good question can be the difference between one dollar and thousands,” he explained. How Andy Cortez carved a path for Mexican Americans on YouTube & Twitch Andy Cortez has blazed a trail for Mexican American gamers looking to get into YouTube content creation or video game development. In an exclusive interview with Dexerto to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month, he retold how he made it from the deep south of Texas to having his face plastered in New York’s Time Square. Many aspiring creators may think they have what it takes to be an internet personality, but their background and where they live is holding them back. And that was the case for Andy Cortez, a community college student in his late twenties on a path to becoming yet another educator in the Rio Grande Valley. However, as many already know, Cortez’s creative passions led him down a different path. One that would see him making it to art school, working in game development, and eventually joining the cast and crew of Kinda Funny. But he wouldn’t stop there. The Mexican American content creator is also growing his own community on Twitch with the goal of making people laugh, and making viewers with a similar Hispanic background feel right at home. How Andy Cortez found his way into gaming Before Cortez became known as a comedic gaming journalist for Kinda Funny, he started his creative journey in Austin, Texas in an Adobe Illustrator class at a community college. But one day, his teacher asked to stay after class and urged him to join a real art school. This was a moment that changed the course of Andy’s life. He ended up going to an art school, falling in love with game art, and honing his artistic abilities beyond his already impressive talents. He’d then work in game development for three years while indulging in content from the Kinda Funny network. Cortez would draw fan art for the group followed by a t-shirt design which led to Kinda Funny asking if he could create more tee designs for them. Cortez stated, “They always liked the talent that I had for art and the passion that I had for them as a company and the community. And then I started making silly videos on the internet and they were like ‘oh! You’re funny, too. You’re entertaining as well, we want to hire you.’ and this is where I’ve been since 2017.” Cortez’s side hustle as a Twitch streamer But Cortez doesn’t just create content for the Kinda Funny audience. Inspired by his friend Ray Narvaez (formerly of Achievement Hunter), Cortez began streaming on Twitch as a side hustle. “I’m lucky to work with Kind of Funny Games. We have a built-in audience that wasn’t primed to watch somebody streaming on Twitch. Our audience was primarily podcast listeners, and they listened to reviews. “When I first started off, I was really motivated to have a side hustle that I could make some money off of. And then it kind of got really addicting cause I realized it was such a cool outlet to entertain and make people laugh and have something to do on the side.” But beyond being entertaining, Cortez found ways to include his art and game development backgrounds into his streams. “I thought ‘how can I include this other creative side of things and kind of merge it with gaming?’ I found a lot of people like when I do stupid overlays like my mouth on Link’s body. “That started picking up steam and people would show up to see whatever the hell I was doing that week. It became this instant satisfaction knowing that you were making people laugh in that moment.” From the Deep South to San Francisco Growing up in the Rio Grande Valley, as close to the border of Texas and Mexico as you can get, it wasn’t common for people in that area to make a living from video games. But luckily, Cortez’s support structure helped him achieve his dreams of turning gaming into a career. “I am so fortunate to have parents that believed in me and at no point did they ever try to shut down those dreams. They knew how expensive it was going to be and that it was going to be a lot of student loans, but they always kind of believed in that kid who was winning art classes in high school. “They thought it was really cool that I was getting into game development. And when I got my first game development job they were like ‘oh sh*t! Now you’re gonna be working on video games. That’s awesome.’ “It was a lot more supportive than what I would have ever expected just based on the way media tries to portray that sort of thing.” He went on to explain that his transition into the media side of gaming felt “inevitable” and that his parents weren’t surprised when he told them he would be leaving behind game development to work for Kinda Funny. Making his audience feel right at home When Dexerto asked what moment of his career he was most proud of, having his face in New York Times Square for Twitch’s promotion of Hispanic Heritage Month 2021 was at the top of his list. He stated, “That was some of the craziest sh*t that didn’t really set in until several weeks later.” And Cortez loves being an inspiration for fellow people of color. “It’s been really awesome to be in this field and whenever I get to go to a live event and a person of color walks up to me and is like ‘hey man, it is so cool to see a fellow Mexican American succeeding in that space.’ that’s always insanely inspiring to me. “Representation matters, and you don’t know representation matters until you see it. You’re meant to think that this is how media looks. Growing up, it was always white. That’s just how it looked, and I didn’t think that it was meant to look any different. “It’s weird that you can not see the wrong in that as a kid. Until you grow up and realize ‘oh yeah, what is wrong with this? Why has it been like that?’ Honestly, it wasn’t until I saw the movie Coco that I was like ‘Holy sh*t! This is what it feels like. I relate to so much of this. “I didn’t understand what it meant to be represented until I felt represented. It was awesome to see that and to now know that I can play a tiny part in that and make people feel at home and welcomed.” He found comfort in using Spanish slang on stream, despite a feeling of potentially alienating viewers who didn’t come from a similar background. “I watch tons of streamers that use their own pieces of language from their backgrounds, and it never alienates me so why am I worried about that? “I love when people from backgrounds similar to mine are able to recognize little things that I inject here and there, and it kind of makes them feel at home.” In closing, he offered a bit of advice for those who dream of turning gaming into a career. “Don’t be a d*ck. Just be nice, be cool, be chill. You don’t have to be the best at what you do. As long as you’re decent at it and you’re really easy to work with you’re gonna go far.”

Concerned TikTok users can be safe in the knowledge that the clip is not actually real and is from a show from the now non-existent short-video app Quibi. The person in the clip is actor Tye Sheridan, and he is well and thankfully alive. Some may even recognize him as Wade Watts in Ready Player One and Cyclops in X-Men: Dark Pheonix. Quibi was a mobile-focused streaming app launched in April. But its shelf-life was incredibly short after it was forced to shut down in October. Interest completely bombed, with one report claiming that the app lost over 90 percent of its subscribers after the first three-month trial. However, it seems that Quibi’s ghost lives on and a clip from the show “Wireless” has turned up on some people’s For You pages, making it seem as though a teenager called Andrew Braddocks is in genuine trouble. The film follows the main character Andrew who is driving through a snowy landscape to a New Year’s Eve party when he is distracted by his phone and drives off a mountain. As his phone battery slowly dies he tries to use it to seek help, but no one will pick up the phone. Despite being posted by an account called @Ineedhelp428 on October 8, the clip has just recently gained traction, as can happen on TikTok depending on when it turns up on the For You page. Those who were tricked can probably be forgiven for not recognizing the footage considering Quibi’s demise. In the clip, the character Andrew Braddock can be seen lying down in the snow, pale, with blood on his face and saying “My name is Andrew Braddock. Please give this video to my mother, Elaine Braddock. Mom, if you’re watching this right now, it means I never made it out of here.” In the comments, some people expressed concern that he would be posting this type of thing to TikTok rather than seeking help in another way. One person sarcastically wrote: “Call 911? Or post a TikTok, hmmm which one is better?” Another person said, “I’m on someone about to die TikTok.” Another person added, “Ayo, it’s been like 2 months…he’s still alive.” At the time of writing the video has 6.3 million views and the account, which has no profile picture and no bio, has somehow gained more than 82,000 followers.

The man was apparently there for his wedding, with his fiancé in tow. Night shift hotel worker goes viral after guest threatens her “I’m gonna go ahead and cancel your reservation, because you came in here super hostile,” Haiz said. “I asked you how your day was, I asked you for your ID, and you had a problem issuing your ID.” After more back-and-forth, the customer seemed to threaten Haiz. “You’ll lose your job now, hopefully,” they said. “Okay, I’ma go ahead and cancel your reservation,” Haiz replied. “If you do, I will come at you with everything I have,” the customer responded. In the end, Haiz ended up canceling his reservation, even claiming that she had to leave the area to cry due to the tension the situation caused. She also says that law enforcement arrived at the hotel “five minutes after he left,” and that she had to shut down his attempts at checking in over the phone with customer service a short while later. Commenters were quick to show support for Haiz after witnessing the customer’s behavior, with many noting the possible danger of the situation. Haiz has garnered over 8 million views on her initial video and counting. This is far from the first time a hotel concierge worker has gone viral due to a belligerent guest; back in 2022, a TikToker made headlines for how she handled a rude customer who tried to book a different room than his initial reservation.

Later talents and generations would follow with 2nd Generation in 2018 and Hololive Fantasy in 2019. However, Hololive is actually predated by the likes of Moemi Yumeno, Nora Cat, and Kizuna Ai, the latter of whom is widely recognized as being one of the leading pioneers of VTubing. For the longest time, Kizuna Ai’s early start saw her dominate as Japan’s most subscribed VTuber but several years after her debut someone else has now taken top spot. Hololive’s Houshou Marine passes 3 million subs on YouTube Houshou Marine has surpassed Kizuna Ai to become the most subscribed VTuber in Japan on January 10, 2024. Marine passed 3 million subscribers hitting a total of 3.01m, taking over Kizuna Ai’s sub count of 3m. This marks the first time Kizuna Ai has been overtaken by another JP VTuber on YouTube since the legend debuted in November 2016. While certainly an impressive landmark it’s important to note that this isn’t quite an all-time record. Kizuna Ai’s sub count peaked at 3.09m in April 2022. At her current rate of growth, Marine will likely reach that number sooner rather than later. The former number one’s growth was stunted when Kizuna Ai went on “indefinite hiatus,” following her The Last Live concert. She has returned in some capacity since but these appearances have been infrequent with the virtual idol’s focus shifted elsewhere. The most subscribed VTuber worldwide is another story with Hololive EN’s Gawr Gura amassing an incredible 4.42 million subscribers on YouTube. Equally, Gura’s channel is still growing despite the EN member not streaming as often these days.

TikToker goes viral after sharing hotel eggs On September 5, Megan posted a video that showed her scraping the eggs in a pan. It quickly went viral, gaining nearly three million views in the days following. On top of that, thousands of viewers flooded the comments with thoughts ranging from praise for how they taste to how many believe it’s a “health code violation” to cook them in the buffet warmers that they’re served from. In May, streamers SpoopyKitt and SpookyUnagi were hit with bans on the platform despite claiming that their content hadn’t changed. VTubing has become an extremely effective Twitch “meta” with streamers using digitalized avatars of themselves on broadcasts, captivating much of the streaming world. To celebrate their rise, Twitch decided to host an event called VTuber Takeover, but some streamers, notably Little Lianna, opted to use the VTuber tag on their streams. This didn’t sit well with the VTuber community, resulting in YouTuber Nux Taku calling out the VTuber tag abuse, only for their followers to take things one step too far and begin sending Lianna threats of violence. Hot tub streamer strikes back at threats over VTuber Twitch tag In a post on Twitter, Nux uploaded a photo of Lianna’s hot tub stream where she was riding on an inflatable banana and questioned why that content was allowed on Twitch to begin with. The post spread like wildfire, amassing over 4,500 retweets, and even caught the attention of the hot tub streamer herself who fired right back at the VTubers upset with her for using their tag. “I’m a VTuber now,” she sarcastically commented. “Thankfully it only takes a tag and an alert to ‘steal’ their viewers.” Ultimately, the death threats proved to be too much for Nux who called out their own supporters for their actions, apologizing to Lianna in the process. “This is unacceptable and I’m mortified that something like that would sprout from something I’ve said,” the VTuber explained. “This was meant as a critique towards Twitch, not the streamer. Lianna, I’m so sorry.” For her part, Lianna accepted the apology, but not without one last swipe, saying it felt like a “direct attack” on her for the type of content she creates. “No one else using the tag received any of the hate I did. But I am the easier target obviously. Sorry, this got so out of hand,” she added with a lovely heart emoji for good measure. Linktree is a website that allows content creators to provide links to all their channels and pages in one neat place for viewer convenience. It hasn’t come without controversy, however. Many Twitch users have expressed concerns that being allowed to feature Linktree on channels is an exploit certain streamers use to indirectly promote their more adult-themed content. By having Linktree as an in-between from Twitch and sites such as OF, streamers can get around certain rules pertaining to what content is acceptable to link to on the platform. Linktree cracks down on mature content A stealthy update to how Linktree handles such links is forcing some streamers to move away from it in favor of similar tools without the same restrictions. On July 12, Linktree announced that they would begin enabling sensitive content labels by default on certain domains. Prior to this, users could manually choose to enable restrictions or not. If users click on a link that redirects to OF, they are prompted with a warning that reads “Sensitive Content: This link may contain content that is not appropriate for all audiences,” and are forced to click “continue” if they wish to advance. “Some platforms also apply their own terms and conditions regarding sensitive content to your Linktree, so they don’t allow access to links to specific domains,” Linktree’s announcement stated. “As a result, when your visitors reach your Linktree from these platforms and try to access those domains, they may get a message to say that the link is blocked.” Streamers see stats decline after Linktree change The change has apparently had some significant repercussions for streamers who use Linktree to promote their more risque material. Twitch streamer xoAeriel, the originator of the hot tub meta, told Dexerto she has seen a “DRAMATIC” decrease in clicks. “It’s insanely wild. At the same time, her Linktree analytics have declined. “I don’t mind it having a warning on the content though, because I don’t think that will actually deter adults from clicking anyways,” she added. “I’m more concerned about the link not going through because of moderation.” “I’ll probably switch, because if it’s notifying a person that they can’t view the link because the platform they are coming from has restrictions, then that’s mildly annoying,” xoAeriel said. She may not be the only big streamer switching as a result, either. Kaitlyn ‘Amouranth’ Siragusa has removed Linktree from her Twitch profile, replacing it with a Snipfeed link instead. However, the hot tub star and cosplayer has kept Linktree on her Twitter and Instagram accounts. It should be noted, however, that it’s unclear if this was done because of Linktree’s new policies – but the timing is interesting, with Aeriel herself believing this is why Amouranth switched. Earlier in July, Twitch indefinitely banned hot tub streamer ExoHydraX, apparently over the content on her Linktree. She was later unbanned the same day with the Amazon-owned platform claiming the suspension was made in error.

This story is no different as one woman received a message that she thought was gross after refunding a reservation at a restaurant after an unexpected illness. Today I got this message from @tableboston.” TABLE markets themselves as a “cozy, upmarket Italian restaurant”, but Trevor found their experience was anything but “cozy.” This was the message that the customer unexpectedly received: “Hi Trevor. However, it only made it just 30 minutes of the way through, before the airplane was forced to make an unexpected U-turn, which has sent the internet into a frenzy. A voice transmission made by the pilots to Air Traffic Control has revealed that bizzarely the plane suddenly had to turn back due to a horse escaping mid-flight. Plane emergency lands after Horse escapes at 30,000 feet In the clip courtesy of LiveAtc, the pilots can be heard confirming that the flight only made it off the coast of Boston before they had no choice but to fly back after staff was unable to “secure the horse.” “We are a cargo plane with a live animal, a horse, on board. There’s no issue with flying, but we need to go back to New York as we can’t resecure the horse.” One of the pilots could be heard saying in a YouTube video which recreated the route with the live audio. In order to return back safetly they first had to dispose of around 20 tonnes of fuel right into the Atlantic, where the pilots instructed that vetenarian aid would be needed upon landing at JFK Airport. Despite the horse being understandably unsettled from breaking free mid-air, it was able to safetly make it’s way off the plane. The flight then re-took off at 6:35 PM and arrived successfully in Belgium at around 6:49 am on November 10. UK-based James Chamber has made a fair amount of money asking for things outside of his local McDonald’s restaurant in Lincoln, making over £20,000 ($24500+) a year from locals. However, a judge has banned him from asking people for money in the city’s center after the man was sent to court. Homeless man banned from begging after making over $24k According to a report from Mirror, the man was handed a Criminal Behavior Order that prohibits him from “sitting on the floor or otherwise placing himself in a position to gather money.” The report also states that Chambers has been banned from approaching anyone to ask for money or goods within the city’s boundaries. One of the officers in the area had this to say about the situation: “We keep a continued watch of people who we have issued CBOs for, in partnership with the City of Lincoln Council, and we proactively release their image so that members of the community have the opportunity to stay clear of their offending, and are more able to report an incident if one occurs. If you have an incident you feel needs police attention, please contact us on 101.” It was found that James Chambers was making over $70 a day while begging for money, bringing home over $20k a year in the process. The live streamer has over 16,000 followers on his channel and can often be seen going live in the Just Chatting section on Twitch. On November 2, he was confronted during a broadcast by a man talking very loudly in the city center. The Twitch streamer sat back, listening to the conversation between an alleged former Mafia member, who was telling his story to a guy outside a coffee shop. They claimed to be homeless and a content creator on TikTok, yet originally from New Jersey with quite a wild backstory. If true, certainly an interesting person to bump into. TikToker tells crazy story in IRL Twitch stream The man was worried that if he was shown on camera, people “back home” would realize who he was. The clip has since racked up over 40,000 views. “I fled from the US after running from the f**king Mafia, y’know?” The streamer jumped in, saying: “You’re being really loud about it.” He claimed to be connected to one of the famous five families in New York, but wasn’t “at liberty” to say which one. According to BBC archives, those include Gambino, Genovese, Lucchese, Colombo, and Bonanno. “The first thing he [a Mafia leader] introduced me to was… The easiest way to control the streets was through homeless guys. Their eyes are always watching,” he remarked. After being questioned about the legitimacy of routes for people to “flee” from the United States to Europe, the guy replied: “I’m a f**king Yankee. TikToker ‘cantfightfate14’ was streaming alongside his friend, Wally Assaad, when things took a turn for the worse. In a video clip taken from their broadcast, viewers can hear Assaad screaming in fear while two unknown persons off-camera ask, “Where’s the safe?” and, “Where’s the money?” “Bro, I don’t know,” Assaad can be heard saying. Reports state the altercation occurred near 11:30 PM in Sydney, Australia. Authorities received a call to a house on Koonoona Avenue in Villawood in response to a home invasion. Authorities state that the intruders were two masked men wearing balaclavas, who purportedly threatened a female occupant in the home with a firearm. The intruders stole clothing before fleeing the scene. Luckily, Assaad is alive and well, although he did receive medical treatment for a laceration to the head.
